Southern Charm Updates: A Major Fire and Cast Members Taking Each Other to Court

Southern Charm Palace Hotel (2)

Southern Charm’s Shep Rose and business partner Taylor Grant took a big risk when they opened Palace Hotel, a bar and grill in Charleston’s Eastside neighborhood around two years ago. Surviving the first year is hard for any restaurant but the two seemed to be beating the odds.

Unfortunately, last Thursday, in the wee hours of the morning,  one of the apartments above the bar caught on fire causing extensive water damage to the Palace Hotel. There were five people in the apartment above at the time of the fire. Four escaped unharmed but Shep told The Daily Dish that the fifth person was not as lucky.  Shep explained, “With the help of our employees and a neighborhood resident, they were able to drag the gentleman out of the burning apartment. He’s now in critical condition. It was a very scary and tense situation. It’s just too early to tell about what will happen from here business-wise. We’re just hoping that the tenant upstairs is able to make it out of the hospital soon.”

Shep told his Instagram followers the Palace would be closed for the foreseeable future but plans to be back better than ever soon. Let’s hope so!  I still want to go there for a $2 PBR and a haute hot dog!

But that is not the only major drama going on in Charleston….

Stand Back, Bitches! We're a Family! November 2015
Stand Back, Bitches! We’re a Family! November 2015

Parents of two young children, Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis, appear to be at war again.  It seems the Christmas season started off great for baby Kensie, who on only her second Christmas got her first Chanel bag! But something happened, as it usually does with these two that apparently started yet another battle of War of the Roses proportions!

According to FitsNews,  the couple, who seems to always be either making beautiful babies or fighting like two tigers in one sack, had yet another huge blowout. Kathryn made the usual allegations against Thomas, he can’t see to keep his dick in his pants.    Somehow this has become a legal matter with both sides filing some sort of legal action against the other. It’s not really clear what Kathryn filed because being a man whore is not against the law. Thomas is claiming that Kathryn took drugs during her last pregnancy according to the Fits story.  This leads me to believe they are arguing over visitation.

The third season of Southern Charm wrapped filming just before the holidays so none of this will be on Season 3 unless they edit in some updates.  Rumors abound that Thomas was hold out on filming season three. I’d put my money on him being there though. The unrequited love triangle of Kathryn and Whitney fighting over the disgraced man-child is the fulcrum upon which the entire storyline rests. If it weren’t for Kathryn’s major social media blast at the end of a floundering season two, we wouldn’t have even had a season three. As it stands now it should show up on our screens around April.

The fire confuses me as I was in Charleston last week (prior to fire ) and the palace hotel was closed permanently acording to yelp and definitely not open when I went by. I naturally wanted to pop in. Someone else mentioned it had been closed several months prior too with a for rent sign in window. I’m just confused as I wanted to check it out. I did go by Yankee Pat’s house and it’s definitely in a transitional neighborhood. On a ton of land but not nearly as much as it looks like on TV. Heading back in a few weeks and may check out the house that shep built. Oh, heading out of town back to I95 you go through the town of Ravenel. It’s not as impressive as the bridge 🙂

Charleston blows Savannah out of the water. I love them both but Charleston is my home! I don’t know any of the cast but we have lots of mutual friends.

That whole triangle annoys the shit out of me. Thomas Ravenel is disgusting – and I think Whitney may be a psychopath. He is so fucking cold hearted.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Tamara’s description of Ravenel as a man whore is so spot on. Whitney is a nasty, despicable person, but you don’t have to look further than his mother to understand why he is the way he is.

That said, I still love this show. It’s different than the Housewife shows and gives us a look at a different demographic than we usually see on theses shows. I have been to Atlanta once, several years after the Olympics. Obviously, a long time ago, but I just found it beautiful and charming.

Ooops, forgot to say that I just recently went to Charleston. An old friend from college with whom I reconnected around five years ago has a beach home near Charleston. I was there this summer and it’s just wonderful; historical, great food, friendly people…..nothing like NJ for sure!!

Season 1 was fun. Thomas did come off as charming, I thought. He made self deprecating jokes and I always find that a fun quality people when they do that. He came across as a good natured scamp. Kathryn came across sortof gold diggerish. Yes, I think she wanted a baby but she definitely wanted it with someone who could provide a comfortable life. That is one of the only times I have ever seen a fake pregnancy scare work out in the girls favor. Most men when they realize they dodged a bullet tend to get the heck out of dodge. Whitney with his denture smile was a weirdo and pat wasn’t *that* insufferable yet.
Season 2 was completely different bc now there was a baby involved. It went from light and funny to pretty depressing when you realized that this is how two people that just had a baby were living. Kathryn did try to pull the baby card every time Thomas tried to leave, but he should have had enough maturity to just leave, set her up comfortably and just be friendly and polite for the sake of the baby. What’s going on is so white trash. Whitney’s now a psychopath and is mom is a bitter old shrew.

I love this show! It’s a bit different from all the Housewives shows and I love the Charleston scenery.

When I was growing up my family used to vacation in Charleston every summer. We kind of accidentally discovered it – we had a family reunion one year in Kingstree, SC which is not far from Charleston so my parents decided to check it out after the reunion. We ended up loving it so much that we went back every year for over 10 years. I haven’t been back in over a decade. I love watching this show because I see so much of the old Charleston that I remember and how much its changed since then. I was trying to talk my husband into taking a trip down there last year but then the church shooting happened and it seemed like it probably wasn’t the best time. Anyways, I hope to visit there again sometime in the near future. Its a very special place for me!
