Project Runway Junior Discussion

project-runway-junior-cast

I watched Project Runway Junior in the dark of night on DVR because this crud gets infinitely worse at night and it’s hard to sleep.  I didn’t feel like recapping and watched anyway because I wanted to and because, as you know, I hate the unconventional material challenges. So I was just going to skip this one and blaming on being sick, but I miss talking to you guys about the show.

So I have just a few thoughts from what I can remember from watching in a cold medicine induced haze.

First of all, why was it necessary to make the little churren get all dressed up and sent to a car wash in a limo. I mean I enjoy a bit a child abuse on TV, but that is what Dance Moms is for. Or that one show about junior league football teams?  There was no point to screwing with these kids this way.  There will be just cause for that later.  And on that subject, I don’t think I’ve seen any of these kids crying other than when they get voted off. I think the season 14 adults will end up having cried way more than these kids.  Sidenote: The kids on Masterchef Junior cry A LOT if you are in to that sort of thing.  But I have to say, I am starting to be ready for some crying.

Project Runway Jr

Let’s start with that androgynous kid who was on the bottom this week for giving a new, literal meaning to a tube skirt. That kid is starting to annoy me.  I think that is mostly what I wanted to say.

I love the girl who won the first week who made the car mitt dress. I could see being 15 and actually wearing that dress. I thought the kid who won did a great job. I think the kid who came in second had a great face when he did. The kids are much more likely to be visibly agitated when someone else wins.

Overall these kids’ unconventional looks with two exceptions were better than pretty much everything we saw in season 14.

OH! I remember what I wanted to say. Maybe it was my drug induced haze but I thought the 17 year old who went home was really like 45. Seriously. I kept thinking she was like 21 Jump Streeting us. Is that bad?

Is carwash mitt girl the far and away favorite? Or will a boy win?  Did you watch?

Sorry to hear you’re still suffering TT. Despite being high on cold meds, you’re observations are still pretty spot on. Yes, the androgynous kid is getting on my last nerve too. And the girl that went home did look 35. My thoughts exactly.

I was a little disappointed that Zachary won because I thought the other kid was more creative with the key chains. When they started the challenge, my first thought was grab the pinwheels and make a textile. It was the most obvious thing to do. I would have never thought to use the key chains. However Zachary’s outfit did look incredible, especially the skirt. He will probably win. I guess I’ll give the judges a pass.

Omg that host! She’s pretty but she has the personality of wallpaper paste. Thank god Christian Siriano and Tim Gunn are there.

Did anybody watch the throwback Thursday episode that was on before? It made me miss Michael kors soooo much. Best judge of all time.

I would have gone for ALL the fuzzy dice and cut them open and made a textile from that for a mini skirt or something.

I would have NEVER picked all the key chains, and I was sort of surprised Tim and the judges liked them. I liked them okay on the runway, but I was surprised by all the fawning.

      I loved the mop outfit.

I watched and enjoyed most of it. I thought tube-boy (I don’t know his name.) should have gone instead of Ysabel. I liked all of the top four designs. I thought the mop skirt and top looked the most wearable. The fit was amazing on the winning top, and I loved the keychain sleeves.

These kids are really talented, and have definitely shown up the Project Runway designers from this season.

The only reason tube-boy stayed over Ysabel is because he is flamboyant & over the top which makes better TV than the boring girl that smiles all the time. This is the same kid that told Tim Gunn in the 1st episode, “You’re a GOD.”

Whilst I initially agree, Blake was that character on the recent season and it didn’t save him when he made something awful.

Ysabel’s skirt was so awful and deserving of a loss. It was a fail in both construction (flimsy, unfinished etc) and taste (punctured beach ball).

My issue was more with the mop outfit, it received a little too much praise. The top took a lot of effort and time to make, however the bottom looked dirty and quickly rushed together.

Blake was talentless in a sea of mediocrity. He stayed WAY longer than he should have. This kid might do well if he could be a lot less precocious.

Also, I appreciated his use of the term “god awful” to describe his own skirt. That right there is enough for me to root for him if he can stop annoying me. I used that term to my uber Christian closeted gay principal once and he immediately tried to clutch the pearls he secretly kept at home.

That is true, kind of. Swapnil’s final collection was amazing! The only beacon of hope for that season. However, he phoned in a lot of outfits and still made the top (shows how mediocre the rest were I guess).

Edmond’s paper wedding dress made it to the Tim Gunn special that just aired. I don’t think any other outfits from this season did.

The dressing up and limo ride was probably also meant as a treat.

I am loving this so far… and some of these kids have serious talent. On average this cast is more talented than Season 14! I dare say there is a little more maturity too. Loved how someone said that they didn’t want to go home because it was fun being with people who like to sew and design… that her friends didn’t get it. I now want the PR people to start a camp!

I’ll need to review the kids names and their designs before I name a favorit or guess a winner. Still so many of them to keep track.

I thought key-chain boy was robbed His look was amazing! The winning look was okay but didn’t deserve the win. The androgynous kid is super annoying but I’m glad he didn’t go home this week. I think he might have some talent. As soon as I said, “It’s so nice to not have to listen to Heidi Klum’s screeching voice,” I started to realize how painful this host was. She just reads her lines & then laughs inappropriately. Not one is home upstairs. She found it hysterical that the kids went to the car wash (as if!). Sigh.

Key chain boy is the one adopted by the two dads, right? I am worried about him. Incredibly talented, loved the look, but he looked upset at himself like some of my former over achieving high schoolers who probably were popping Peptide like they were candy used to look.

I am enjoying the kids–there’s a lot of talent and more maturity than many adults yet they still come across as young (which is good) and kind of sweet.

Do kids that young practice in the mirror to fein those looks and attitudes, I’m speaking of Blake in particular? He turned me off already on the Threads show from a year or two ago. I just find it hard to like anyone of any age that acts so affected. Just the thought of people being so obsessed with themselves they create a persona, unless you are an actor practicing a part, pisses me off. I’m glad he, as yet, hasn’t received extra attention. I think that is what they want.

I agree with others, my favorite didn’t win. I had two other contenders in mind. I said after the first episode, most of these kids are more creative than S14 of PR’s adults. Usually the kids lack some in finishing details, but those last older designers had raw seams everywhere.

I thought the limo ride was a cute touch, they seemed to enjoy it. They know there will be surprises and it is always a design challenge, not a junior prom. As long as Tim Gunn is on, I hardley notice the model/hosts. No one can deliver a line like Tim. His first 2 retrospective shows have been great. I love the oldest clips, when the designers had personality, talent, and heart.
