Several Real Housewives of Atlanta turned out tonight at the Woodruff Arts Center for the advanced screening of WE TV’s newest reality show Selling It in the ATL. They each has slightly different reasons for being there though.
Let me tell you a little story that has been floating around the ATL for quite some time now. I’ve heard multiple versions of how it all allegedly went down. All stories begin with Sheree Whitfield’s neverending quest to get her peach back. After trying some routes to that end in the NYC arena, Sheree eventually turned her attention to Executive Producer Carlos King. It was allegedly in these conversations where she mentioned and idea for a show about Atlanta women in real estate. On the heels of the success of Real Housewives of Atlanta, other cable networks are trying to capitalize on the plethora of black women in Atlanta willing to act foolish on television to try to find a show with the same level of appeal. Bravo itself tried the same thing with Married to Medicine with a smaller degree of success. WE TV has a show about hair stylists in Atlanta called Cutting it in the ATL which was recently picked up for season two.
How does this affect Sheree? Well as the rumor goes, Sheree mentioned the idea of a show about black women real estate agents in Atlanta to Carlos King. Sheree as far as I know, has no experience pitching shows, or producing shows or doing much of anything other than tugging on wigs and having security throw cast members out of her parties. On the other hand, Carlos King has started his own company Kingdom Reign, that not only produces reality shows, but does everything from preproduction creating, writing and very importantly in this case pitching show concepts all the way through to postproduction. So Carlos went to WE TV with the idea of a show called Selling it in the ATL as sort of a sister show to Cutting It in the ATL. His pitch was successful and it was picked up a season of six one-hour episodes. My understanding is that Kingdom Reign wrote all the treatments and controls all production aspects.
When Sheree found out about this she was allegedly in her “who gonna check me, boo” frame of mind. Clearly, it was her boo Carlos who checked her. So, again, this is rumor, because how would I know any of this for sure, Carlos knew that all Sheree really wanted was a peach. So he promised her one ALLEGEDLY for sort of pointing him in the right direction. And then, the original NYC people were not anymore interested in her than they were the last time Sheree approached them. Eventually, the compromise was a Friend of Housewife (FOH) slot with the idea that it could be a stepping stone toward a peach in the future. And there was one more thing to sweeten the peace treaty. She was given a nominal title of executive producer on Selling It in the ATL. Nominal being the key word. Nominal titles are given out frequently in Hollywood in exchange for favors. They are sort of the honorary doctorates of the acting world.
Gosh I went into much more detail than I intended. But anyway, tonight some housewives (Phaedra and Kandi) are out to support Sheree for this big “accomplishment.” And others are there to support Carlos King for developing and producing the show with his own up and coming company. Claudia Jordan is quite close with Carlos and Cynthia is there to support him as well. It never hurts a housewife to support Carlos as he can influence your edit on RHOA. Demeteria MeKinney was there with Claudia as well. I might have heard a rumor that they have something in the works with Carlos as well. I hope that is true!
Anyway, that’s what’s happening tonight.
I swore off of ratchet TV shows about Atlanta women myself. I’ve never watched Married to Medicine or Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. For the locals, one show about women brawling in Atlanta is more than enough. So I am out on this one.
If you want to give it a shot. Selling it in the ATL premieres on WE TV this Thursday November 5th.
P.S. What was up with all the weirdly inappropriate headwear?
P.P.S. My understanding is that there is no filming for RHOA this week. In addition, this is a show premiere for a competitive network so I don’t think this will be on the show.
Oh god… it is contag6. Please tell me they have never met Megan wearing her Stevie Nicks wannabe headbands! (Although I don’t remember Stevie wearing them much)
Cant stop wondering what’s up with Kandi’s boobs. I know she’s pregnant but they’re lopsided and that dress is not flattering to lopsided boobs. 😛
Why is Phaedra dressed like inspector gadget in green?
I did not even recognize her ?
that’s Phaedra?
@Hi kitty I thought it was Brian Fellow’s assistant! LoL
Phaedra looks great since she ditched those old lady wigs she used to wear.
That’s Phaedra????????
She looks different. Like she’s had some work done. Hmm?
I have often wondered how people in Atlanta felt about the way people in their city are portrayed. There are always so many rumors floating around there though they could do a show called “Word on the Street in Atlanta”.
I did NOT even recognize Phaedra. Is that her in the top picture?
Ugh I hate pointy shoes, probably cause I can’t wear them, thanks for the tea, interesting.
I love cutting it in the ATL. I am glad we get a season two.
Very interesting, Carlos king posted a pic of him and Sheree saying they don’t make statements they take pictures or something of that sort. But anyway everyone looks great and I’ll check out the show.
Kandi channeling her inner-Meghan! LoL
In other news…that pic of Cynthia & Claudia above was same one used for their Below Deck preference sheet. Oh, Bravo & their cross-pollination.
That would be really hard Claire since BD was filmed months ago and aired on the night (last night) picture was taken. Time machine ????
Hahaa…I read “sweeten the peace treaty” as “sweeten the peach treaty”. I need new glasses.
As for shows in Atlanta, at least you guys have “The Walking Dead”. I know you don’t like it, but it’s a great show. I would LOVE some behind the scenes reporting.
I will keep wishing for that. 🙂
Phaedra looks weird.
Wow, Phaedra has had too much WORK done. She looks cartoonish…Kandi and her hat band, LOL
