I am rearranging my entire day just to see this Project Runway episode as soon as possible. I am already pissed that I very clearly set the show to tape and extra 8 minutes and it doesn’t look like it did that. If I miss the ending of this I will be PISSED. I am so glad no one spoiled me and very excited to see if my homeboy comes back.
Tim is literally shaking when he comes into the room after Edmond was auf’ed. He’s really dragging this out. YES! Tim saves him. He had me scared there for a bit. It looks, for now at least, like they are sending all four to NYFW. This makes no sense to me. They have had such a poor showing this season, and THIS SEASON they are sending four? I was sure that they would eliminate someone else based on their NYFW designs. That may still happen but Tim just said very clearly, “You’re all going to NYFW!”
They have seven weeks and $9,000 to create ten looks. Wow, that seems like a long time. Ashley is told she can have plus sized models for her collection. It’s a Project Runway first!
Five weeks later, Tim goes to check on Ashley. Ashley’s inspiration is Mexico in the 1950s. She has hand dyed all her fabrics. Ashley has some huge floral headpieces she wants to put on her models. Tim is a bit on the fence about that. Ashley takes it as an acceptance that she is pushing the limits. I’m hungry. I wish I was eating that Mexican food with Tim and the family. This plus sized thing could hand Ashley the win, just because it’s the first time it’s been done on Project Runway.
Next up is Candice, Tim shows up to the beach in San Francisco in a suit. Of course he does. At least it is cold outside. Candice’s theme is Asian with a 3D effect. She has lots of black including a very heavy black leather Kimono. I love the leather accents. I love the bright red fabric she selected for her giant skirt for her final look. I’m sitting her thinking she could win it all when out of nowhere, Tim slams the fabric! He says the color looks cheap! I hate to ignore Tim, but really hope she does. I think her idea of starting out black and introducing more and more of the red with a HUGE red skirt at the end if fabulous and cohesive and her best idea yet! But what the fuck do I know? Oh good. She’s not going to listen. I want to see that skirt.
On to Kelly’s place in Springfield, MA. Good GOD is that a fanny pack? Holy crap there are more of them and some of them are sequined! Noe. Kelly. Just noe. Kelly’s theme is Studio 54 meets new age streetwear. Oh dear. Tim likes it all except for the
pantyhose fabric nude mesh. He suggests she try other colors where the mesh is because it looks cheap. Kelly, much like Ashley thinks that Tim is really into the collection. I didn’t get that at all. I think he “gets” is but I mean… I do think the craftsmanship is beautiful and if she edits down the accessories A LOT. It will be fine. It’s not a collection I would want to wear, but she’s clearly not designing for me. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Great. My DVR is skipping and it looks like my audio will not be matching the video for the duration of this episode. UGH. It’s always something with the DVR. I want a sandwich from that Deli.
And finally, time to check on my homeboy! Edmond actually has his own design studio, or else he rented space for the Project Runway. Edmond’s concept is “glamor.” It’s not as specific as I would like. He is going to pretty much do all gowns. They are very ruffley. I’m worried. Tim says to beat back the architectural stuff and go with more of a flowy look. Did I mention I’m worried? This is my least favorite collection, and I really want him to win. Hopefully, this is editing to make it look like he doesn’t have a chance so that his win will be a surprise? Am I just hoping too much? Oh noe! Edmond just toasted with an empty glass. His fate is sealed! 🙁
Back in New York, everyone is intimidated by Candice’s collection. Edmond is not unpacking his garment bags yet because he still has three pieces to make. Kelly is the only one who came with everything ready to go. The will pick three looks to show the judges, and one must be created today. A brand new piece. I don’t know why they are shocked. This always happens. They get another $250 from Mood for the look. Edmond’s Mood receipt was almost $400. He had to put about half of it back!
They didn’t show the model selection this time. I remember liking that part. Am I imagining it? I wanted to see the plus model selection. How did they know what sizes to make? Especially Ashley. I wanted her to have like a size 20 in there somewhere and not a bunch of size 12 models. I hope she made something for herself that is cohesive with the collection.
Edmond’s collection is a black and white theme. It’s really looking great from what we have seen so far. Ashley agrees with me that Kelly’s collection is odd and not cohesive the panty hose parts are still there. Edmond’s has a piece from his collection that is not great. It’s very heavy with long sleeves and a full body ruffle. I am anti ruffle. Edmond has a very ambitious plan for his new look. Tim is worried. Once again, I hope all of this is editing. Candice is not including any of her red into her three looks. Tim tells her to change that. Candice’s looks, now that I see them all together look costumey. Tim says to go easy on the headpieces. Get the judges opinion on them before walking ten of them down the catwalk at fashion week.
Kelly has a stain on one of her looks. She tries to use a stain remover. Ashley helps her remove the stain.
Candice’s looks were good but I was not as wowed as I expected to be when watching her during Tim’s home visit. I think she is holding back. I liked the dress she made the day before better than the two pants looks which seemed a bit repetitive to me. I found myself looking at the pants a bit critically and missing the big pieces like the giant kimono. I wasn’t blown away. But I do think she is holding back her big pieces for dramatic effect.
Kelly’s looks are very …. fashion showy. Like the weird shows that have all unwearable clothing. He clothes are wearable and would be something teenagers wanting a funky look would like. Except even they would not wear the damn fanny packs. If she wins with this, I’ll be disappointed.
Edmond’s looks did not disappoint me. His first look was neoprene and Kelly asks if he second look is the same, he says no, the second look is scuba. Isn’t that the same thing? I don’t have time to look it up. This two hour recap has put me behind on everything today.
Ashley has a lot of issues. We’ve heard all season about her desire to design for plus sized women and she does a crop top with a see through lace top that shows her bra? I am SO disappointed. You can bet your life Ashley would never wear that top in the real world. This look does not compliment a plus sized woman. Hell all of her looks are see through lace. Just NOE. And the flowers on the head look retarded. I am so disappointed in this collection. I HATE it. Jesus. All three looks have bare midriffs. A bustier? Really Ashley? I am just appalled at this and don’t even want her to show at NYFW anymore. And what the hell is Mexican about this look? It’s PINK for fucksake and they are wearing a ton of flowers on their heads! I am trying to envision a plus sized woman in Mexico in the 1950s wearing crop tops and bustiers. I am seeing no vision.
Zac says that he is not feeling all the ruffles of Edmond’s look. He says if he had to name the theme it would be “ruffle.” I agree. He needed a better inspiration than just black and white. I do like his looks though. Heidi says that the three styles don’t go together despite the black and white. The ruffles are not going over. This is exactly what I said when Tim visited Atlanta. Of all the times for the judges to agree with me. At least they are telling him to drop the first look. I thought the look was hideous in the sewing room, but it looked better on the runway.
Zac gives Kelly positive feedback, but Heidi says she is disappointed and can’t tell which look was made in one day because they all look like that is what she did. Heidi is like, what the hell did you do with the $9000. It really does look like Forever 21 crap. Nina says everything looks cheap and the clothes are ill fitting. Nina says the clothes are sort of throw away and not worthy of a fashion show.
Kelly gives her Mexico in the 1950s explanation which sounded great in her home visit but on the stage falls flat to me. Zac deservedly trashes the workmanship or lack thereof of the pieces. It’s some really shitty sewing. And my God I just saw the back of one of her pieces with the models industrial bra fully exposed. It’s not just the beige Maidenform bra that is fully exposed, it’s her back fat. We do not want to see back fat, Ashley. The whole point of plus sized is to cover the negatives and accentuate the positives. I just can’t get over what a gigantic fail this is. So disappointing. Zac is way more positive about it than I am. Nina is not a big fan of the “crowns” but Ashley defends them. Heidi loves the headgear. Nina jumps in to disagree. She feels the flowers are a distraction from the shitty designs. Ashley hears what she wants to hear and is thrilled that she has one of the most cohesive collections. I think this is the worst crap that has ever been down a NYFW runway.
Candice says that this is a very small taste of what is to come. Zac says it’s very costume town and can go a little bit witchy bitchy. Everyone hates the hat. Overall the feedback is very bad. It’s too cliché. They hate everything from the makeup to the red fabric. Nina says she has seen this show. Alexander McQueen can do this show, she cannot. OUCH. They are very harsh. Candice is tearing up. CANDICE! is tearing up! They were that hard on the collection.
Candice is highly upset by her critique. Ashley is for some damn reason feeling great about hers. I’m predicting a Candice win.
