Ladies of London Recap: The Cougar in the Room

October 19, 2015 by tamaratattles 24 Comments

LOL Annabelle

Last week on Ladies of London, Marissa kind of stepped in it with Caroline Fleming when she overdid the cougar jokes and went a bit too far. This episode, I expect to see Marissa trying to make amends.

Julie is having a shooting weekend from Sunday until Tuesday. That is not a weekend, Julie. And her husband will not be there. Because he is never around. Julie, Juliet and Sophie Stanbury go shopping for hunting attire. Julie and Juliet are friends again. Julie is unaware of the falling out between Marissa and Caroline Fleming.

The two Carolines hang out at Chez Flemming and the florist delivers a beautiful arrangements of roses with a poem from Fleming’s boytoy. Meanwhile, Marissa explains to her husband that she kind of overdid the cougar thing at bowling night. Fleming is pissed. Apparently, Fleming left Marissa on the side of the road after her comments.

At the place they are going to go shooting, we discover that Julie has no idea how to operate her car. This explains why she just bikes everywhere. Everyone arrives and meets for dinner and drinks. Julie also doesn’t know what a MILF is and can’t figure out what the F is for. lol 2

Why is Cem pronounced Jim? IDGI Are they saying Kim?

Marrisa manages to shoot a partridge and then feels guilty. The ladies and head to the pub for a snack and a drink. Did Annabelle go home and leave her friend Liam behind? It appears so.

Julie and Marissa share a bubble bath (weird) and Julie tells Marissa Caroline is coming for her. Caroline Stanbury seems to be working Caroline Fleming up for a confrontation. It’s time for dinner and Annabelle is still on the grounds. Julie and Marissa are the last to arrive to dinner and everyone is pissed that they are late despite the fact that Annabelle and her friend Liam walked in right in front of them. And by everyone I mean Caroline Stanbury. Also Liam, who is a virtual stranger to everyone except Annabelle plunks himself down at the head of the table. Both Carolines seem to be allied against Marissa. While Fleming and Annabelle sneak away for a smoke, Sophie tells Marissa she needs to clear the air with Fleming. Apparently, Caroline Fleming’s sister is Marissa’s best friend. She talked to her friend about Fleming’s boyfriend pushing her out of a car and her friend apparently related the information to her family in Denmark. For some reason Caroline Fleming has issues with her family. Why is Caroline Fleming talking about her parents. Didn’t we find out this season that her mother is dead?

Marissa goes into the bathroom to chat with Caroline Fleming. They find a seat in a salon and Marissa tells Fleming that Stanbury says she is still unhappy with her. It seems that Fleming’s main problem is that her distaste for her boyfriend has gotten back to her parents. Fleming accepts Marissa’s apology.

Next Week: Is that Iman? It’s going to be an Alexander McQueen episode. And the ladies all go to Denmark. Caroline Stanbury is unhappy with Annabelle.

It was Naomi Campbell in the previews with Annabelle (not Iman).
Shooting weekend looks like a total bore to me. I would not be into that at all.
Marissa was clearly in the wrong and owned it and apologized. I appreciate it and forgive when someone can say they screwed up. I like that Caroline F. did the same. I think Caroline S. is a shit starter, gossipmonger. I have major dislike for her.
Annabelle disappeared and ditched out of the pub because she said she was going to go assist with making the meal.

Caroline S. is the Tamra/Brandi of the group. She’s not really very good at playing that role. And I do believe she’s playing a role. English people don’t do drama like Americans do. Just look at Lisa Vanderpump. Now SHE’S an EPIC shit-stirrer who always manages to keep her hands crystal clean.

Cem is pronounced more like Gemini than Jim.

I believe CF’s father remarried and his wife became a mother figure to Caroline.

It’s Naomi Campbell talking with Annabelle next week.

I really like this show. None of the women are despicable. Even Juliet is okay though I do find her annoying.

      Thanks for the recap!

Sorry, all. I meant to say that Cem is pronounced like Gem, not Gemini. Damn autocorrect.

I got curious about Cem’s name being pronounced Gem a few weeks ago so I looked into it. He’s Turkish & super rich & hangs out with Mohamed Hadid. I found it interesting that Caroline kept her last name. I guess you do that when you come from a posh family.

Sounds like “Gem” to me. I’ve seen it somewhere else too recently, a man named Cem pronounced “Gem”.

I think C.S. just considers Marissa to be a social climber.

Most of the British women seem to view Americans as inferior, unsophisticated and socially inept beings. Even Annabelle, who’s the most kind and level-headed of the Brits on the show, let’s her contempt show now and then. They look down on Julie and Juliet for not fitting in. Yet, when someone like Marissa adapts well and succeeds on their turf, they consider her a social climber. It’s a lose/lose situation for Americans.

All the Americans strike me as social climbers to be honest. All the Brits too, but they’re already all established so come off as being far less pathetic. Is this something about British society?

I wonder if Caroline F’s family are mad at her for stooping to something as déclassé as reality TV?

I think that C.S. is jealous of Marissa’s connections, particularly with C.F.’s sister. Given how much C.S. gushes about C.F.’s having been born a baroness and growing up in a castle, it must be as annoying as $hit for one of the Americans to be best friends with C.F.’s sister.

I also think there is some career jealousy, too. C.S. was the breakout star of the first Season, but Marissa has been the Lady who has gotten the biggest career boost out of the series. C.S.’s inability to capitalize on on her fame was one of the reasons that the Gift Library went tits up.

Thanks for the recap, TT. Was nice to see Marissa and Caroline F working it out and making up in one episode. Loved the hunting lodge!! It’s been so hot and awful in Los Angeles, all that freezing cold mud looked good. I want to know how Annabelle cooked the birds. I wish they had filmed that.

If I remember correctly, CF’s family wasn’t/isn’t thrilled about her divorce..according to her, there is no such thing as divorce in her aristocratic family…

Caroline F. lost her title to marry, then divorced the man. This caused friction in her family. Small note: Caroline F. did not leave Marissa in the street, her boyfriend did, “pushed her out of a taxi” according to Marissa.

IMO, these “ladies of London” are famous because they have titles/lands their ancestors earned or somehow stole hundreds of years ago. If they still have family money, that elevated them further, and helped them be in a position to get noticed by a rich gentlemen. It doesn’t make this generation smart, accomplished, or nice people. There is an incentive to continuing to perpetuate the mystique they are special and above others, not just the Americans. I consider any of the titled or aristocratic people appearing regularly on a housewives type reality show no better than the American ladies in any way. The issues they have are the same; failed businesses and marriages, tense or lost relationships with parents, lovers, and friends. They just complain with a pretty accent.

Is there something in the British air that destroys female hair? Most of these women look like they don’t bother with a comb or brush, unless it is an affair where someone does it for them. Their good hair day is our everyday hair. It is a positive to see some Brits that have good teeth.

I’ve noticed. Julie’s is the worst, it looks like flat, straw hair. I don’t know what she does to it to make it lay so flat, and lifeless…and it’s so YELLOW. Not even blonde, but yellow. She definitely looks best when she pulls it back, but it’s lank and coarse when it’s down. Strange.

Caroline S’s is nice, Juliet’s is just very fine and limp, Marissa’s looks pretty when she tries and I think Caroline F has lovely hair.

It is true, it is in the air. I have seen my motger spend upwards of £1000 on colouring, styling, disceet extensions, the works. Looks AMAZING in the salon. Ten minutes outside? Gone. Money down the drain.

Can’t defend Julie. That’s just wrong. I honestly think it’s a home colour job gone bad, which kind of makes me warm to her!

In the Turkish language, the “c” sound is pronounced as a hard “j”, hence the name “Cem”, one of the most common male name in Turkey, is pronounced like Gem or Jem. I know others have picked up on this fact, but that is the reason why.

Did anyone else notice how many times Julie pronounced “shooTing” with a hard emphasis on the T? It was so bizarre, it was like she was pronouncing it as two words, shoo-TING, and she only did it 90% of the time. The rest she pronounced it normally. It was like a stutter, it was so odd.

At least Juliet didn’t behave like a complete ass this time and refuse to participate or eat the food.

Lol I noticed that too! It was like nails on a chalkboard. Like she was trying really hard say it with a British accent. But then a few times when she was talking to the other Americans she must have forgot because she said it the “normal” way.

What in the world is up with Caroolline Fleming? I am beginning to believe that she is a narcissistic, attention starved crackpot. ENOUGH with the etiquette lessons! Everybody with good manners knows that it’s within extremely poor taste to go around and publicly shame others for etiquette faux pas. Also, WHY does she need to constantly go around and speak of her family history and put on such an air of superiority? She behaves as is she is the only adult, admonishing a wayward bunch of schoolgirls. It’s very unattractive for a forty-something year old “aristocrat” woman.

I live in London and don’t enjoy this show as much as the other USA housewives, I did not see the first season but enjoyed the second.CF & CS are both dreadful snobs! They make very uncomfortable watching but that is part of the attraction.
