Hey there American Horror Story Fans! I’m sorry I didn’t get anything up today, I’m going to be somewhat out of commission for a bit. As you know, I usually chain Urethra Franklin to the radiator for this task, but he has gone off and gotten him self some sort of fancy new job that actually requires him to work and not be on the Internet all the time.
As he said he will only be in and out this season. I will try to remember to put something up for you guys. As you know, I don’t really watch this kind of stuff. It’s hard for me to recap so I put up the commercial for this week.
If you click through, you will find a preview for next week.
Next week’s episode is called Mommy! That’s enough to make me not want to watch right there!
I know many of you are dying to discuss the episode so get to it! Make UF proud.
Okay… Who watched? Can you believe that shit? I have to rewatch and then comment because I am horrible for details unless I am fresh.
I did have some questions answered though… Vampires. We have vampires. I also thought the flashback to the original owner was incredible.
No question this is my favorite season. I am going to rewatch this and then I will come back and comment.
I checked the sight eleventy billion times last night hoping for a thread about this.
I know it seems Vampirish, but they’re not vampires. It’s a form of Vampirism, where they kinda have the same tendencies as Vampires. Ryan Murphy has said that The Countess is afflicted with an ancient blood virus. Her back story is going to be fascinating.
You are fighting a losing battle here. At least they don’t sparkle. Although Gaga is dazzling in this role.
I agree Micheal. Though at first I was horrified when I found out she was cast, and I didn’t even think of Jessica Lange once last night when I watched.
The Countess role was made for Gaga. She embodies it perfectly, and when she’s on screen I can’t take my eyes off her. Even her subtle nuisances are brilliant. She is a true performance artist. Ahhh hello she was getting it doggie style from Dandy in the bath tub, that is commitment from a big superstar like her to do a scene like that on TV.
There was a Hungarian countess that murdered/tortured virgins for their blood. I think this is going to be her backstory. I also believe that she was March’s wife.
I’ve also checked the site all day waiting for this thread. I must connect with my fellow AHS addicts here.
My favorite scripted show in years!! Yes they are vampire-like. They drink blood but sunlight wont kill them. They arent . Invisible in mirrors or photos either. My question is.. is Gaga the serial killer/architect of the Hotel’s wife?? The said he had a wife but the only woman he was ever with is Ms. Evers (mare wittingham). Im also dying to know how Holden ended up in the Hotel when he was kidnapped from the amusement park?? How did Holdens sister survive the carbon monoxide gas in the home ?? Sooo since the cop is staying in the black heart of the hotel, will he start slaughtering guests like the shining?? I wonder if the architects spirit will enter him since he already tried having him murder someone. So much more of the backstory was expsed.. I cant wait until next wednesday! I will miss your recaps ferociously Uretha… wish u could stay here with us…
We got a brief glimpse of Hotel builder’s wife, but only the platinum blonde back side of her head…. Hmmmm wonder who that could be?
It wasn’t Holden’s sisters in that carbon monoxide scene. It was a different crime scene that Detective John ( her father) was investigating. The story was this family had their power shut off, so the father used a generator for his kids’ comfort. While he was gone, all of his kids died of carbon monoxide poisoning & and in his grief he committed suicide by blowing his brains out.
I’ll be around. Life is just serving me a big bowl of steaming shit right now.
Oh Lisa Pat! You bring up interesting points!
Now I’m thinking maybe the cop IS the killer and he doesn’t even know. We know he doesn’t drink (like Nicholson in The Shining)… I bet he starts to drink again. Perhaps he is all messed up mentally from losing Holden and he is living a double life and doesn’t know it yet.
Yeah… That really made no sense at all since we don’t have a killer yet that we don’t know about.
But I do think that LisaPat is on to something and I ran with it.
It’s late. I’m tired.
When Kathy Bates was telling the story to the cop she said Mr.March made his wife watch..when it should Mr.March putting brick work around the girl in the wall she was screaming he stuffed his handkerchief in her mouth a small glimpse of a blonde woman appeared beside him pulled it out and said no I like hearing her…seems like Gaga is the wife in my opinion ?
That scene! The bricking scene! Thank you for mentioning that Mrs S! I was a little, mmmm, “spacey” while watching and I knew there was something I wanted to comment on (and forgive me if someone has beaten me to the punch): I taught “The Cask Of Amontillado” to 9th graders for many years and I always included that Poe classic in my short story unit. I cannot help but put myself in the position of the victim. What I horrible way to die! That story, and that scene in AHS, makes me shudder.
UF- Soooo happy you’re here to discuss with us. What a great group we have! I enjoy so much reading everyone’s interpretation of the episode and trying to work it all in my foggy head.
TT- I know you’re not sold yet but I so wish you would watch. I would love to hear your thoughts and I know you’ll catch all of the allusions that I fail to notice. Just think about it…
Thank you UF for clearing that up for me!! I could talk about that last episode all day & night.. and selfishly fill up the forum so I have to pace myself. You answered 3 big questions for me.. I only have about 30 more! I wont go there now .. Just one comment: There has to be a reason those baby vamps are there bc we know atleast one wasnt born & bred by Gaga (mrs march). They are sleeping in glass coffins but they eat candy all day. I dont think they have the virus fully yet or they wouldnt be eating sugar and giving/receiving blood. Maybe Holden can be saved??
Thank you for putting up something for us AHS fans.
So far, I’m not sure what to think. I wasn’t that thrilled with the first episode, but this one let the guys shine. I know a lot of you liked Finn last season, and he is back. I thought Evan did well as the serial killer. Denis is wonderful as Liz Taylor. I think Gaga is doing okay so far, she does temptress very well.
I was happy to not see the drilldo again, but I’m sure it will show up soon. Will we see more of Sally’s back story? It could be interesting.
I loved how he sashayed out during the Fashion Show scene, “Skinny jeans are out, but fringe is in”….
And ponchos are forever…
Did anyone else think of Rob Lowe in St Elmo’s Fire during that runway scene? I also felt twinges towards other old films during several scenes but I might be crazy!
Gaga said “virus,” because they can’t commit to vampires. I prefer to think of them like “Let the Right One In” so not sparkly happy vamps.
Yes Belladonna it’s an ancient blood virus that she is afflicted with. She has the ability to infect onto others. She craves blood, the consumption of blood is maintaining her youth & vitality.
Don’t you all remember in COVEN when Delphine used babies blood on her face to stay young looking… Even Marie Leveau was into the blood as beauty/health regimen. This blood thing has already been played out by Ryan Murphy.
Loved the telling of the original owner. Anyone know if this is in reference to the serial killer that built the hotel in Chicago for the World Fair? This is shaping up to be my favorite season and didn’t think I would ever love one as much as season 1. Lady Gaga is great and I love seeing all the others in different character. The orgies and the blood, wow! Right up my alley, pardon the pun. I am so excited you will have a place to discuss!
Yep. That would be HH Holmes.
About 8 years ago, I went on a ghost tour of Chicago. The tour stopped in front of what was called the murder castle. It was the first time I had ever heard of Dr. Holmes and I’m a lifelong resident of Chicago.
Netflix had a great A&E documentary on H.H.Holmes but it’s not available yet but there is a 2003 documentary on Netflix available right now that is so-so but gives a lot of factual background on him. I’m saw it Wednesday and I’m glad I did because the episode almost sounded like the documentary at times.
He is now known as America’s first serial killer. At the time of his arrest the papers called him a multi-murderer.
You should read Devil in the White City. He is one of the main parts of the book. So good! I’m stoked that they have a character like him this season.
I read somewhere that they are making that book into a movie. I think Martin Scorsese is behind the helm. I do want to read the book. You are the 5th person to recommend it to me.
Leo DeCaprio is supposed to be H. H. Holmes in the movie too.
I thought the book was great but it starts off a little slow. I keep meaning to read Erik Larson’s other books but have yet to do so. Leo would make a pretty amazing HH Holmes. Heading to Netflix to check out those documentaries!
I watched the one doc that is available on Netflix that you suggested. Man… That dude was twisted! How many people did he kill?
He got away with that for a long time and had many victims. And it seemed to be right under everyone’s noses. But people were not aware of evil like that back then. Now it seems to be everywhere. We are rife with serial killers and crime.
Pip, the show said 9 but in reality no one knows for sure. Some say 56 some say it could have been over 100. The muder castle no longer exists as the documentary explained but the place still has creepy vibes, very creepy vibes.
I had never watched this show before last night, not being drawn to vampire or horror genres, but curiousity about watching Lady Gaga as an actress drew my attention, as did the buzz about American Horror Story itself. The set design, the atmosphere created and the acting were very impressive to me, and I found Lady Gaga to be stunning and simply terrific, not to mention the pleasure of seeing Kathy Bates so clearly enjoying herself. Though still not my cuppa tea, I found this to be a jolly good show, but being squeamish about bloody portrayals, very likely once is enough for me. Nevertheless, my compliments to the entire production and especially to Lady Gaga.
I loved the scene when the Detective stormed behind the Hotel counter and whipped Iris around to put her in handcuffs to compel her to answer questions. Kathy Bates had fun in that scene.
Thanks TT.
I am going to give it another look as well. I would not allow my little girl to be riding the bus and being so independent, if my little boy had been stolen. That doctor mom worries more about other people’s kids.
I hope the silver tears eye makeup doesn’t catch on. I guess it could be a thing and I wouldn’t know it.
I watched ep 1 a second time, while I ate dinner. I must be, as Puddy would say, desensitized. Oh well, I am old and do not have weapons, except for some large chef’s knives.
The detective’s daughter snuck out and took the bus to the hotel to try and get a picture of Holden. That being said I am anxious to know more about the mother. I freaking love Chloe Savigny and she looks amazing in the high waisted slacks and 1940’s style blouses and updo. Very Joan Crawford! This season is so visually stimulating that it is almost distracting. I find myself obsessing over colors and patterns. Ooh! Aah!
This is the most beautiful season. Costumes, that hotel, all of it. Gorgeous and gruesome. 🙂
I finally caught my mistake the 2nd time I viewed. I must have fallen into a blood lust coma to have missed that she was being sneaky. I guess they have a cop watching her at all times. Thanks, Tulsateacher.
I love reading everyone’s comments here. I learn from everyone, I miss a lot of subtleties.
I hope they have a scene where Gaga does some singing as the Countess character.
Gorgeous and gruesome. The perfect paradox. It makes perfect sense.
Jaded, I think it is definitely a reference to Henry Howard Holmes. I could not believe it when I read about him. A really twisted individual.
I could do without the child vamps, that children of the corn vibe.
Yeah- I could do without the child vamps as well. I just can’t imagine letting my kid take a role like that, ya know? I’m generally not the judgemental type, so I guess I will just leave it at that.
Bouji, I think the first and second seasons were the best, you must watch them if you like the horror genre at all. I think this one started out more gory than the others. I prefer scary to gore, I like getting my mind played with rather than seeing blood and guts.
Thanks for your suggestion, Belladonna. This show is still playing through my mind after two days. It was that captivating and such a cornucopia for the senses! Just the hotel all by itself is magnetizing.
Things we learned last night on AHS Hotel:
Vaccinate your children.
Sally needs a good dentist.
The Childrens Candy Room does not include a barber.
Cleaning sheets are a sign of love.
Disco literally sux.
Ryan Murphy loves David Lynch.
Male models with rooster hairdos are cock teases on Grindr.
Regularly flip you mattress.
THANK YOU TT for giving us a place to talk about this episode. I guess all everyone really wants is place just to gather and talk about Hotel.
Sorry guys but sometimes life just gets in the way, and I will say again I’m not going to be available for regular recaps like I have been in previous seasons. My schedule, obligations, & priorities are ruining my AHS fun with you guys, but I plan to be interactive here in the comments section with you all. So please share any theories, questions, observations, what you love, what you hated here.
I appreciate that UF. I love all your insightful and humorous contributions, however much you can do. I just had to hit you and TT up for a spot to compare notes. The young folk on here are so clever at making connections between AHS and other things. My only expertise has been in regards to H H Holmes hotel that I found out about years ago while studying Chicago history of the Columbian Exposition. My favorite Chicago is the area where it was held.
I second that. Thank you TT, for all you do.
Chutes and Ladders in coming on FX tonight at 1:00am if anyone missed it or wants to watch again. I will be!
Mare Winningham can get all stains out of sheets.
The 70’s were great.
Evan can act.
Urethra, just happy to have you here to talk about Hotel. I don’t really need a recap, just a place to say “what the hell did I just watch?”
I am absolutely obsessed with the music used that has been featured in AHS:Hotel thus far. Most of the music used in the 1st two episodes I already own in my personal music collection and they all hold special memories for me in my personal life.
Episode 2 music & the scene where it was featured.
“In A Lonely Place” by New Order
The Countess, Elizabeth, is driven to the museum. After leaving the limo she walks through the grounds.
“Don’t Stop the Dance” by Bryan Ferry
During the Fashion Show scene & during when Tristan was acting like Zoolander on crystal meth.
” I Want Your Love” by Chic….. YASSSSSS!
1970’s Flashback with The Countess partying at STUDIO 54. (This scene made me so happy. If I was an adult in the 70’s, I would have been dead by now.)
“Spellbound” by Siouxsie & the Banshees
Tristan cruises for guys on his phone app; the guy arrives, he and Tristan make out as they make their way to the penthouse; Elizabeth arrives, she watches as Tristan feeds on his blood and then they make out. (On a personal note, one of my hottest sexual memories is picking up a sexy guy wearing a Siouxsie & the Banshees t-shirt at a bar in South Beach.)
Besides the actual cast of characters, the Hotel is a character in itself, and so is the music.
For “In a Lonely Place” it actually was Joy Division. But after the lead singer died, they changed too New Order. So their discography kinda overlap each other.
I need to hear the Cure sometime this season on this show!
My city is having a Record Crawl this weekend. Music stores that usually compete have joined together for the event to encourage buying local.
This made me think of UF. You probably have a better collection of vinyl than our stores.
Dawn I have to admit I have some cool stuff, at least to me, in my music collection. I do have lots of vinyl as well.
I agree, UF. I too, have a lot of this music. My husband and I both have a lot of 70’s and 80’s and last night while I was watching he came in and was like “what are you watching”? Because he still has so much of this on vinyl. I am SUPER PSYCHED to see what else they choose for the show.
And yes, Tamara and UF! Thank you for a place to come and discuss. Wednesday nights I am chewing my nails waiting to see what everyone has to say.
I did some research last night. The Hotel Cortez is based on the Cecil Hotel in L.A. There was a girl who ended up in the water heater on the roof a few years back and there is some pretty freaky footage of her in the elevator during her final moments. It’s on YouTube.
Sounds like a lot of the stories we are about to see are loosely based on alleged goings on at the Chateau Marmount. I am already super hooked on this show.
Lady Gaga is fucking awesome, by the way. We saw her three or four years ago in concert and her show was very theatrical, but I had no idea she could really act. Like REALLY act. She is really good.
And I did hear the “virus” murmur. But why couldn’t he use the term vampire? Just curious? Or could he have and just chose not to?
Also, swear to God… I had no idea Ruan Murphy created Glee until last night. I have never watched Glee. A little too cutsey for me, but the shows are extremely different. That surprised me.
I should clarify- from what I understand, Hotel Cortez is mirrored after the Cecil Hotel in L.A., but as many of you have stated, the story itself comes from H H Holmes. And apparently the Chateau Marmount is mixed in there as well.
Ryan Murphy is also producing Scream Queens. Is anyone watching? Just wondering if it’s any good.
Angel I quit watching Scream Queens after the 3rd episode.
It’s an alright show if you like Heathers + Mean Girls + Halloween + Scream.
All of the music is great but Siouxsie sent me over the edge!
Oh Lady Cocotte, you really are my people! xoxo
I especially LOVE the music this year. Now, if Ryan Murphy could get the addiction demon to sing “Lay Down Sally” to Hypodermic Sally than I’d be in heaven.
More Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, The Smiths, and DEFINITELY The Cure, please.
The reference to Patti Smith made my day, I hope that means they’ll play some of her music.
DarkThoughts I feel the same; anything by the Cure will be a welcome thrill.
I’d love to her some Depeche Mode, Clan of Xymox, Cocteau Twins, David Bowie, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Lords of Acid, Love and Rockets, Ministry, and Cabaret Voltaire. I totally expect something from this list.
Ah….Urethra….all the music you mention sends me into an absolute SWOON! I am lucky to have gotten out of the 70’s alive! What a time to be young, gorge, and single! I adore AHS! Please comment when you can!
Hipster guy. Beard, topknot and skinny jeans.
Manbun.
And he don’t do vag.
Ahhh the music. Yes, yes yes!!! As for Sally needing a good dentist, I could’ve used a good sedative after that scene.
Ok I caught up on AHS by watching Murder House, Asylum, and Coven over the weekend. I’m having a hard time watching Freak Show. UF recapped it so well, it seems like I’ve already seen it. I am so in love with Evan. He is a great actor. Loved Angela and Kathy in Coven. I heard that we will catch a glimpse of the Murder House mansion in Hotel. I need to watch this episode. I couldn’t because of my daughter but downloaded it from Amazon. Be back to comment after watching.
Oh my…now, that is my kind of overdose…All AHS…all weekend. So did you have dreams or nightmares?
If you’re an Evan Peters fan than you have to watch the Freak Show episode where he sings a song by Nirvana in the opening scene I believe. Oh…he will take ur breath away.
I love suspense and paranormal. Watching the three seasons back to back was kind of cool. It was like being at an all day movie (for several days). I don’t know why I’m not getting into Freak Show. I probably need to stick with it.
Just watched episode 2. We are still setting up and showing background into who the characters are. Anticipation starting to build. And once again Evan shows us why he is a great actor LOL!
I loved all of the above, save for Freak Show. I watched, but I just couldn’t get into it.
I wad poking around the net today and i happen to stumble across some info that murder house from first season is connected and is making an appearance this season 🙂 eeekk cant wait
Yes true and some production pics leaked this week of Lady Gaga outside the Murder House. I wonder if she’s connected to the 1st season of AHS. I can’t wait either.
In those pics she looked pregnant. Didnt Dr Montgomery do underground abortions? Is she why Infantada was in the murder house? So many ways they could play this
Yes great way to connect the seasons. I hope they give us something fanfuckingtastic too!
Wasn’t the Black Dahlia mentioned in the first season?
Yes Ashley The Black Dahlia murder was used in Epsode 9 of Season 1. The character was played my Mena Suvari as Eliazabeth Short.
Elizabeth went to the dentist who worked out of his home (The Murder House). She was short on money, so she seduced him in exchange for free dental work. He has sex with her while she was knocked out from the nitrous. She never woke up from the nitrous. The dentist dragged Elizabeth to his basment. The ghost of the original Murder House owner, Cliff Montgomery, disembowled & cut her in half.
The real Elizabeth Short was found in a park not too far from where the real Hotel Cecil is. The Hotel Cecil is one of the inspirations for Hotel Cortez.
I would be disappointed if the writers did not re-visit the Black Dahlia story line for AHS:Hotel.
I really hope they revisit it this season. It really seems to tie into the story this year, plus i find the Black Dahlia to be a really interesting case anyway.
I come back here once a day to read the comments. You guys have seriously good memories.
I have not watched every episode of AHS.
I did watch all of Murder House which I loved.
I watched Asylum, which I was actually the most excited for, because I LOVE abandoned insane asylums, prisons, train tracks, and smoke stacks. (Don’t ask… I don’t understand it myself). However Asylum turned the corner for me once it turned into a musical with the whole “Judy, Judy, Bo-Boody” thing. That just killed it for me. Too ridick.
Didn’t like Coven so I only lasted about four episodes there.
And I thought Freak Show was pretty good and did actually watch the entire season.
However, my point is that I can’t believe everyone’s attention to detail and memory. I really don’t remember much detail about any of the seasons.
Every time I read new comments here, I feel like I need to rewatch the episode again.
Oh…that scene where Tristan and The Countess lock eyes. That look…it can lead you down some very dark places where you are lucky to make it out alive. Except the burn feels just so very good and so very wrong but you simply don’t give a damn because you have to find out if that intensity is chemically induced or based on something real.
#youareonlyyoungonce, #inapreviouslife
I think it’s obvious who the dead/ ghostly characters are.
Who is dead? Who is alive?
The Maid is dead as is Evan’s character. Sally is alive. Liz Taylor is alive. I thought originally Sally was dead, but she couldn’t get into the hotel during the fashion show which leads me to believe she is alive.
OMG that is an excellent observation. If she was a ghost she could just pop in anywhere…. I really thought she was a ghost. Wow now I don’t know.
Iris pushed her out of the window, did the countess bring her back or did she recover from the fall or how is she still alive?
I’m trying to figure out if Kathy Bates is dead or not. I thought Sally was definitely dead- otherwise how did she pull the teeth thing and how does she get into the rooms like she does. I sort of think all the ones at the hotel are dead (Kathy, Sally, Liz T), minus the vampires. And then the cop, new owner and son, etc are about to be. Will be interesting to see.
The kids are vampires, I think.
Yeah definitely. The white hair ones anyways, not the new owner’s son or the cop’s daughter. The vamp kids remind me of that Roses in the Attic movie. I think that is what it was called. Creepy.
Mrs. Muffins, the movie was Flowers in the Attic and the kids do look a lot alike. I started to think that the cop’s son had been turned when the sister sat down beside him in the game room. She jumped up and ran out when it appeared he tried to bite her neck. Then I started thinking the Countess saying they don’t bite. She uses the knife on her gloves. The boy didn’t have a weapon or gloves so why would he try to bite his sister?
Ohhhh good point about the brother and sister- when I was watching I kind of thought he was sort of smelling her blood or something equally creepy. I don’t think the kids ever do the slashing- they just drink off the drugged out people in the cages- but who knows.
I also don’t get why they have candy in the game room if the creepy kids are vamps. Is it blood candy? Or maybe a plot hole?
I think the candy is to sweeten the blood, Gaga kool-aid
Ohhhh good call Steve. They must all have vampire diabeetus if that is the case.
Dead: Ms. Evers, Mr. March, Hypodermic Sally, perhaps Elizabeth Taylor?
Alive: Iris, Det. John, Will Drake, Lachlan Drake, and Hotel Cortez
Limbo: The blood Virus incubators — are they the Undead? Dead? Turned but alive??? Can’t wait to find out.
I think it’s like Murder House. You die on property, your soul lives on forever on property. Unless you’re turned into a vampire.
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave?
It’s gotta be, right? Maybe it’s something in the water in L.A.?
Ohhhhhh Great call on Hotel Cortez being alive. The Hotel Cortez feels like the short lived show on ABC from a couple of years ago called “666 Park Avenue”. It was a luxury apartment building that was basically a possessed evil place. Too bad the show got cancelled because I enjoyed it.
I loved that show! I was missing Terry from Lost and there was some good wickedness.
YES! The setting reminds me so much of 666 Park Avenue. They never finished out the season, and nothing was ever resolved. Vanessa Williams and Terry O’Quinn were great together. The building had a creepy Shining-like feel, but smack in the middle of Park Avenue.
I gotta go to sleep but if we are talkin Vampires then I have to bring in Anne Rice into the mix.
When Tristan took to the Runway and the Countess was there they reminded me the Brat Prince Lestat and the Queen of the Damned. it was the first thing that came to mind. Which is weird because Anne Rice wrote the Mayfair Witches Series who lived in New Orleans but I never once thought about that during AHS:Coven.
Everyone we saw twenty years earlier, is a vamp. Remember Sally sharing the needle? She says something about nothing cleaner than her blood. We watched her fall and then heard the bones crack back into place.
I don’t remember that Belladonna. I’m gonna try and watch the show a 2nd time tonight.
It was the first episode.Have to watch it again.
I’m still not sure whether she is a vamp or a ghost. She is definitely addiction personified.
Sally is definitely dead. She died on hotel property (although outside), so she’s stuck there.
Matt Boner was a goner when he suggested netflix and chill over a night out hunting. tsk tsk tsk, Boner.
2 days in a row!!!! He didnt want to go out the night of the 4-way either. When you are 111 years old you have had a lot of nights staying in already
🙂
Gaga, I love you!! Thanks for putting this up, TT. It’s great seeing old cast mingling with the new. Loving all of it.
I am already loving this season. Lady Gaga is fantastic in this and I hope they make her a regular to the series. I know a lot of you liked last season but I just wasn’t feeling it and was really disappointed. It’s been a long time since I have been here and its great to read all of your posts. TT I missed you!
Lady G delivers a captivating performance. UF write when you can. I’m you’re number one fan UF, you’re number one fan…
TD , Thank you so fucking much! I appreciate that a lot.
I love the idea that the children are Brita Filtration Systems for blood.
“I love the idea that the children are Brita Filtration Systems for blood.”
Yes, so wonderfully creepy!
Ha ha ha totally!
SNAKES and ladders, dammit!!! *drinks tea, has scone, sings God Save the Queen*
It may have been said already but the little boy that plays Holden is AWESOME. Sorry I haven’t read all the comments YET, watching it now. 1st episode “wanna play?” He gets better and better. Still more impressed 2nd episode. What a spook! I live for AHS commentary on TT. I usually just lurk.
Also….is it wrong I am rooting for Matt “Boner” over Dandy? My favorite part of episode 1 was him and Gaga touching hands walking between the bench in the hotel lobby like they were superstitious, and later in the orgy. I’m red assed Dandy is in the way now. I feel so conflicted. 🙁
She likes Tristan’s more. #discostick
I get she didn’t wanna watch a house of cards marathon. I’m still hoping “boner” corrects his ways. Just sayin’.
I thought the House of Cards was an odd choice for the writers to use. Why that show? BLEH!
I thought they chose House of Cards because of the similarities between Gaga, Bomer and Francis and Claire Underwood.
A power couple that has been together for ages, power hungry and childless, who ultimately are each other’s own undoing.
Astute observation, Michael. Plus Claire and Francis are murderous monsters.
Also the Underwoods have been involved in a couple of love triangles (where the third party is either murdered or fucked over) as well as partake in threesomes together.
So add sexually liberal and muderous to the whole childless power couple thing. I see a connection.
Very good call, Micheal.
Did we lose Puddy this week?
I hope she wasn’t #bluffinwithmymuffin
So question: If James (builder and original owner of the hotel) is dead and now a ghost, how can the leave the hotel to continue killing? It must be some copycat right? Someone who is technologically advanced (can spoof phones) right?
Yep, that the $64,000 question. Who is the 10 commandments killer? For me, it’s too early to tell.
We should do a Who is the 10 Commandments Killer pool. My 5 cents are on Chloe.
I believe its the detective.. and that is why hes sleeping in Mr. Marchs room, the black heart of he hotel.
Either him or the owner maybe? They are the only prominent male characters who are alive on the show AND are spending a lot of time in the hotel.
Maybe James or the hotel is slowly corrupting one of them or taking over their body for awhile.
I think the killer is the detective in room 64. Holden’s father.
When Iris was lecturing the “dumb swedish meatballs” i thought it will be her
I love that they used a bigger version of the carpet from The Shinning in the lobby.
Me too, Ashley. I also really get The Shining vibe from that bar and Liz Taylor as the bartender. Detrctive doesn’t drink (and neither did Nicholson) and Liz Taylor has that same creepy kind of awareness that the bartender from The Shining had. There are huge similarities there, imo.
However, maybe Detective DOES drink and commits the murders when he blacks out? He’s sober and on a path of sobriety, but then has moments of weakness and kills.
I just watched this episode for the 2nd time.
When The Countess was talking to Tristan after she turned him she was talking about how much she loved the decadence of the late 1970’s. She name dropped Andy, Keith, & Robert.
I know she was referring to Andy Warhol & artist Keith Haring, but Robert who??????? I can’t think of famous Robert from that era that hung out at Studio 54. Suggestions please.
Maplethorpe
Thanks & you’re right. I did some basic googling and found out that Mapplethorpe was a very close friend of Patti Smith & they lived together too. His artwork was the cover of one of her albums. I find it interesting that in this episode Sally also mentioned Patti Smith.
Agreed. Maplethorpe makes more sense than Robert Evans.
Robert Evans?
For anyone interested, I watched a good doc on Netflix last night.
Room 237. It’s about The Shining. Nine different critics and writers who all have varying theories about the details and inspiration of the movie. It was super, duper interesting. Did you know Stanley Kubrick had an IQ of 200 ? I thought that was wild.
Anyway, definitely worth the watch.
I like to add that I saw Crimson Peak this weekend. For a true horror fan it was a let down. For those that love period pieces the fashion and gothic environment the film was a real treat.
I also took my kids to see Goosebumps the day before. It was money well spent.
UF I’m loooovvvviiinnnnggg Denis O’Hare as Liz Taylor. Girlfriend is rocking those heels!
