I’ve mentioned this show before and it gets little traction here but I am kind of obsessed with Are You The One? Which is currently airing its third season on MTV. It’s a dating show and a game show all at once. They supposedly do psychological assessments on a bunch of twenty somethings and come up with what they believe to be ten promising couples. Twenty kids go in the house looking for the one person they have been secretly matched with. Right away girls get themselves all worked out that the first guy that pays them any attention is THE ONE. Each week, one couple is selected by the gang to go to the TRUTH BOOTH where they will be told whether or not they are a match. If they are, they are moved out of the house to get intimate in a private location for the rest of the game.
At the end of each episode, either the guys or the gals pick a partner (it alternates every week) and everyone matches up with someone and they reveal how many correct matches they have. If they get all ten matches, the split a million dollar pot. This season, if they get no matches correct, they automatically lose $250,000 from the possible pot. That happened on the second episode. This sent a ton of couples who are sure they are going to be together forever to have to start dating other people. Much crying and thrashing about on the floor while screaming that life is not fair ensues. Couples who refuse to leave the person they think is their soul mate are ostracized.
Maybe I am just not explaining this properly but I love the show. This season, they actually have a guy on the show that understands basic math and probabilities. But no one will listen to him. It’s all quite amusing.
Are You The One Airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on MTV. I know that is a tough time slot, but they air the show again several times later in the night. Am I the only one watching this? My DVR started with a the end of Teen Mom, so I don’t know how many matches they got last night. I’m off to Google!
