Did You Like The Second Episode of Empire Any Better?

Empire Cookie

I wasn’t much of a fan of the season premiere of Empire, but I thought this episode was a little better.  It didn’t seem to be a jam packed with celebrity cameos like the first one was.  I did love Miss Lawrence on the premiere but everything on that episode seemed rushed and not related to the plot. Okay, so Ludacris was the bad cop. I really didn’t even notice that, though the bad acting was a distraction.

Speaking of plot, I guess the plot is going to be Cookie versus Lucious. all season long. Cookie is going to just sweep a floor and rent a loft and have a music business called Lyon’s Dynasty or something.  Hakeem is going to be a partner because even though he is not smart enough to wipe his own ass, he is going to record all of his new tracks, and create a girl band just like P. Diddy for the non-existent business. I am sure next week they will have the band all together and a beautiful office full of leather furniture.

Speaking of ridiculous storylines, Lucious isn’t getting his meds in prison. But fortunately he meets a guy in a purple suit named Thirsty and Thirsty get him all the stuff to lay down some track. Why yes, yes, he is in prison, but he’s in that special one where he can do whatever he wants to including killing people. There wasn’t a single mention of dead Chris Rock from last week. Because, ridiculous. Empire Luda

Jamal was sort of backtracking on fully embracing his new asshole personality. Andre’s wife told him she was pregnant and going to be an uncle and he got all soft and said he would try to get Andre back on at Empire. Now she has to get pregnant in  hurry because I don’t think she is. Andre doesn’t seem long for this world he is depressed and barely has any lines.

In the end, Thristy pulled another miracle by blackmailing the judged right in the courtroom with picture of the judge trussed up like a chicken with a ball gag in his mouth and just like that Luscious is out on bail and ready to come after Cookie next week.

So? What did you think?

Last season was great, but this season just doesn’t feel right. Not only is the story line off, but the tone is kind of soulless. There is a pervading unpleasantness that makes me not want to tune in next week. It’s not the actors’ faults. The vision seems too negative. What do we have to root for?

I agree. I think that changing Jamal’s character was a big mistake. He and Cookie are the heart and soul of the show. The worse part is that the change happened out of thin air.

It seems like they have jumped the shark. Last season was a drama. This season it has been changed to a dark fantasy. It feels like a different writer with a plan of how to ruin a good thing both in real life and storyline.

They are trying to hit so many different social points that it doesn’t make sense as a real business or a family.

I’ve not watched as yet but so far I find it very disjointed! The behavior of Jamal has changed so much that I don’t even like him any more so the show has lost its one bit of softness! Everyone is cold, calculating and angry!

Much better. Totally thrilled seeing Bubbles, Andre Royo, from The Wire as Thirsty…would like him to stick around. Why is Lucious in need of ALS meds when he has myasthenia Gravis? I kinda like Hakeem this episode. Lucious flashback to his mom explains where Andre got his bipolar disorder. We know what was in the envelope given to the judge but what was in the envelope Thirsty gave to Tyra Ferrell?

Just seems that somebody is just writing filler shit till they can come up with some better shit. I just sort of drift off and perked up at Hakeems scenes for some reason and I did see the in-prison makeshift recording studio scene, but I’ll have to watch it again because I can’t remember anything else. I hope they get that vibe back. Instead hyping it to be better than it is becoming.

So far Empire, for me, is not living up to the buildup. I think the show would be more interesting if we had to watch Lucious fight to reclaim his status instead of just doing the routine Buy A Thug, Threaten Someone, Kill Somone, and Bam….back again. Lucious needs to struggle and hit bottom…..hard.

Although I think the show needs to take a more positive direction this season, why does Wendy Williams keep saying that Terence Howard should leave Empire? Why is Wendy doing this? I do not like it when she tries to lose work for people. Think it is despicable. I think Terence Howard is an exceptionally gifted actor and musician and is integral to the success of Empire. Why does Wendy always bash people when they appear vulnerable in some way, like saying Kim did not have a stroke? Just putting it out there that TH was and is very important to the success of Empire.

Yep, and WW was raving about the scene where Cookie comes for Anika and they trash talk each other. Which would be fine if she didn’t say that all the rachet reality shows are bad for women. I mean agree with her stance on reality shows, but I don’t then say that the Cookie scenes are the best scenes ever in the show…

I still like the show. It seems people are expecting so much right at the first show, then when they fill it with “extra” people, its too much. They have to keep the show moving because audiences are watching reality shows and patience is short. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…

This weeks episode was “ludicrous”. The prison doesn’t reflect real prison. The killings/beheading and NO accountability or inquisitions? A recording studio? I realize it’s just a TV show but at least before the characters were interesting and somewhat believable. Now they’re trying to hard for one liners for Cookie and making Luscious to be a super gangsta’ like Barnes was in NY. Not turning off yet but giving it the side eye ?

something is definitely off.. a beheading>> and delivered to her apt… its hard for me to believe that in prison anyone could do such a thing and then get someone to drop off at the post office.. but the first episode with the gorilla coming down to the stage.. was so crazzzyy… i thought.. Oh no.. their ruining Empire and its the first 5 minutes.. LOL.. i LOVE TERRENCE.. i watch the show literally for him.. Wendy Williams should be off the network.. one of the most annoying person on T.V. who the heck cares what she thinks?? who the heck is she anyhow? geeshhh… i love the music.. and i’ll watch till the end… but i hope next season they get better writers.. like the first.. and connect the story lines much better.. i feel their hopping around.. and what about the man the Andre’s wife kills.. how the heck does a man disappear and NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT.. who the heck is writing the scripts.. not one mention.. like Whaaat? bad script so far……

Didn’t Andre’s wife tell him she was pregnant in the finale when they were standing around chatting over the dead dude?

This episode was better, but not by much. Did they get new writers? It’s really different.

    Andre breaks my heart.

I won’t go as far to say the show has jumped the shark yet. Still giving it a chance. It’s one of those shows that requires you to suspend belief/reality while watching. That’s cool. (In Jay Z voice) “It’s only entertainment!”

Although in that jailhouse recording session I was ready for 2 Chainz to pop out and yell “TWO CHAINZ!!”

“If it ain’t one thing it’s another”! The writers are definitely trying to do much all @ once…
Starting one storyline after the other with no true depth.
Last season was dramatic but I don’t think it ended well. This season was less dramatic.

Step it up writers because we expect more
