Below Deck Recap: If You Can’t Stand The Heat

Below Deck eddie new deckhand

Tonight on Below Deck we are back on shore with a lovestruck Emile and a rowdy crew. Is the new guy’s name Dane or Dean? I’m confused.  Emile is getting on Eddie’s nerves. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get on Eddie’s nerves. Emile is shitfaced and dumb, but he is adorable.  Okay it is Dane. Thank you Bravo overlay.

Rocky and Connie and a bowl of whipped cream leads to them putting whipped cream bikinis on each other. Actually it’s Rocky that puts one on Connie. Leon stumbles on the scene and tells Connie, he knew she was a carpet muncher.  Apparently, you can’t say carpet muncher on Bravo because it was bleeped. These two are getting whipped cream all over the boat and drunk Connie is overboard to skinnydip to wash the whipped cream off of her. Connie is an exhibitionist.  She does a talking head completely topless.

Drunk Eddie is back on the phone arguing with his girlfriend. He basically breaks up with her. Then he finds all the whipped cream and Connie’s bra on deck. He is not amused. He takes her discarded clothes and leaves a message on the white board for them to clean that shit up! Below Deck Captian Lee

Time to meet the new charter guests. They are sorority sisters and a guy named Jacob. Kate immediately starts snarking on them for that alone. Eddie is very grumpy and upset with the crew for slacking off.

Lots of discussion about Rocky leading Emile on. Kate asks Leon if she can put Rocky in the kitchen. This is a way to get her out of her hair and everyone is happier.

After Leon has made lunch, Kate tells him that they just want finger foods. I blame Kate for this. Leon and Kate are arguing again. Meanwhile, the deckhands have let the jet skis get away. Captain Lee is pissed now. It seems to me like he and Kate are overly touchy this episode. Captain Lee bitches out Emile and Dane. Then Eddie goes after Emile five minutes later. Why is everyone so grumpy?

Eddie calls another meeting to ream out the deckhands again. Eddie is on a power trip. Connie points out in her talking heads that Eddie is MIA a lot lately.

Rocky is cooking the crew meal tonight and Leon has been napping all afternoon. I forsee disaster. And I was right. The chicken is raw. And two and a half hours late.

The sorority girl reunion is going great. The ladies are having a blast and partying in the Jacuzzi. the next morning the girls are hungover. One of them is puking her guts out. Yuck. They decided to dock a bit early.

At the crew meeting they get a $15K tip. Almost $1500 for what appeared to be a 2 day charter. Captain Lee talks about the breakdown of communication between the interior and the galley.

Rocky is bored with cockteasing Emile and Emile is not getting a clue. Rocky decides to write him a snarky note telling him that she has no feelings for him. We’ll see his reaction to that note next week. The previews are for the rest of the season. It looks like Rocky starts rumors about her and Eddie hooking up and that blows up in a bad way. Lots of arguments between the exterior crew. It seems that tempers finally erupt and Leon finally has enough of Kate.

Poor Emile – the only thing he’s lacking is experience!

Rocky is a happy-go-lucky, fun-time gal and seems to have little idea, or concern, about the havoc leaves in her wake. She decided to go after Emile with the intensity of a heat-seeking missile. Yet, after she hooked him and got him all wound up, she got bored with the game and and dropped him. Poor Emile is completely clueless about this kind of woman and has probably never been toyed with like that.

I agree, Emile is so inexperienced with this kind of woman, he doesn’t realize the more he tries the more he pushes her away. Rocky has had her fun with him and she is now done.

Our electricity went out during the first part of the show, so I have to wait for the next viewing in an hour and a half. Grrrrr… I need a backup generator for my DVR.

I am just catching up with my dvr. I am so surprised that we’ve seen the actual crew 1st engineer twice so far (I’m only on 3rd episode) and hes been referred to several times. Dan/Don kept going to him instead of Eddie LOL

Missed the episode tonight, but if that’s who they showed last week (the 1st engineer) and also he was in the lineup of “actual crew” on the 1st episode–well pick me up off the floor. Hot Stuff.

I think Eddie is fucking hilarious. He would be so much fun to work with.
I think Leon is a dink. That guy is too inflexible to work as a personal chef. he would do better on a strict schedule. If I pay a shit load of money to charter a yacht and I want sliders at 3 am, I better get them. He’s an ass. I hope Ben coming back means he is replacing him permanently for the rest of the season.

Agree about Leon..he is not right for this type of cooking. (If he was)working on the QE2 as a chef it’s very regimented, even in the ‘restaurants’, and you are basically a Banquet chef. Hotel Food & Beverage was my first career (and my Ex was a chef)and you do not want to mess with their timing. Now that attitude is fine and needed in a large scale food service setting but on a yacht..let alone a luxury one…no way. That setting is all about the guest and what they want and your ability to respond to that is what makes you shine as a chef.

The guests were raving about the cheesecake brownies. Little did they know it came out of a mix. These kinds of chefs probably need to use frozen foods and mixes a bit when improvising meals and snacks.

Definitely do to time as well as storage concerns for having all from scratch ingredients on hand . There’s nothing really wrong with (some) convenience products. It’s all how you shuzzz them up.

I love you to add stuff to brownie mixes. Bailey’s, choc chips, and chopped hazel nuts is a fave and no one guesses you used a mix.

Ok TT maybe Kate should have checked with the guests earlier about what they wanted for lunch. When they requested sliders, French fries and brownies after dinner, Leon was an ass talking about “I turned off the oven”. Too bad jughead. It’s your job, turn it back on and make them what they asked for now without a pissy attitude. Your big, grumpy ass is going to be sitting there waiting on that almost $1500.00 tip at the end of a 2 day cruise. They were a nice group and didn’t ask you to bring it to them wearing just an apron. They just wanted some brownies for gosh sake.

Yes I agree! He is not cut out to be a Chef on a Yacht. I believe that the crew is not suppose to tell the guest No, so if they turn around and ask for sliders and brownies, then sliders and brownies it is! They had to be smoking something to want all that extra food.

Extra food? Nah! You’ve never gone out drinking then hit up the Pancake House or IHOP(when they still existed) for food before calling it a night?

Leon responded that way because he thought Kate was messing with him, and he was giving her attitude back. That’s what he said when he was talking to Eddie and Emile. I think Kate is nasty. She didn’t get along with Ben either. Leon needs to learn to be a little more flexible, but Kate has given him nothing but bitch from the first day. She’s too dumb to realize that the QE2 is a high-end cruise line. They also offer cabins that come with their own staff and chef. So far, the guests have loved his food which pisses Kate off.

Bottom line is that he made the food the guests requested. And he didn’t do a half-assed job. Like Kate did when she didn’t think it was necessary to track down DJ1942 when each guest had requested it.

I kinda like Leon. I think he likes to push Kate’s buttons. If I remember correctly, last season, one of the deckhands cooked in the middle of the night for guests. I think maybe Eddie did. Leon is a typical “artist”, leave him alone and let him do his thing. Rocky is nothing but a tease. Can’t stand her! The new guy, Dane, don’t see what they all see in him. Get a haircut!

I guess I’m missing the attraction for Dane as well. And you’re right. It was Eddie that made them some margarita pizza. Leon told Eddie and Emile that he thought Kate was messing with him so he told her no because of it. I’m not a fan of Kate’s. She didn’t get along with Ben last season. She gave Amy a hard time for no reason. She came across like it was annoying to provide service to the guests, and they called her on it. She’s pretty high and mighty for being a maid on a boat.

The previous chef was moody. I guess he was better liked because he flirted with the stews. He may have been more receptive to requests because he prepared meals late, not on time like Leon.

Just finished watching this episode – wasn’t there supposed to be some sort of reveal about Leon never working on a cruise ship? I didn’t see anything about that, although I am off work today and was watching while drinking my favorite boxed wine, Almadem….lol

First, I must thank Tamara tattles for these recaps. I can’t wait to get to work (hehe) the day after below deck so I can get clocked in, go to my office, sign on to my pc and read the recap! Nothing better than getting paid while reading TT!

Okay…. I think Leon needs to be given a little break. So this is his first yacht, you have to start somewhere. They all love his food, can’t be that bad.

What did we do before reality tv and Internet? Do we have lives or no lives??

I love my reality tv and recaps!

Leon is a gifted chef. Kate needs to shut up about his lack of yachtieness. He and Kate are both inflexible people. Cement wall meet concrete fence. He also should drop the prima dona act.
Rocky is a trouble maker. I wish she would get the plane ticket home. Thank goodness she didn’t give the crew salmonella from the raw chicken.
Don’t see the attraction with Dane. He sorta looks like Sonja Morgan’s boy toy type. Needs a bath and a hair cut.
Is Rocky in training to be a housewife in a few years? She is certainly developing her shit stirring talents.

Kate’s problem is she expects crew to be professional. She is and knows how a luxury yacht should be run. Leon should have his arrogant, cry baby ears boxed. He may be a good chef but his bad attitude has been noticed by even happy-go-lucky Amy. Amy is the one who is better behaved this season. Now as second Stew to Kate, she has seen how complicated and stressful Kate’s job is…..see “too professional” above. Rocky is a nuisance. She is 3rd Stew. Ironing, making beds, cleaning is what you signed up for. Don’t want to do it? Want to play outside? Don’t sign up as 3rd Stew. All Kate wanted her to do was her job….like having crew uniforms ready. It’s not Kate’s fault that Rocky has a bad attitude in the beginning. Back to “too professional”. Bravo gave you that outline when Kate asked permission for Rocky to take a swim break vs. The deck hand/engineer deciding to hop in on his own. Finally, I lay much of the blame on the Captain. He is responsible for everything. He is responsible for arranging training for crew in order for them to operate the yacht safely. He is responsible to ensure crew works together. He is missing the point by telling Leon and Kate to fix it. He needs to know what is wrong, what is really happening. Interview crew and ask their opinions. The view from the top can be cloudy and leading in the fog is no way to do it.

Does no one else find Connie’s solitary obsession with being naked funny? She works, she eats, she sleeps and she gets naked.
