Happy Fourth of July!

July 4, 2015 by tamaratattles 118 Comments

Patriotic Hot Dogs

First of all, I want to apologize to my Canookian pals, our neighbors to the north (of the Yankees) for missing Canada Day. I usually get a Bonne Fete Du Canada post up, but I have been completely absorbed in Big Brother 17 which has been insane.

Happy Fourth of July! Today, I have been stuffing my face with hot dogs I bought to stuff my face with tomorrow. I don’t know why but I can’t stop eating today. I got a bunch of sweets for my birthday and I am gorging on them too. Someone is going to have to come and roll me to the diabetes doctor here soon. Tomorrow will be more chili dogs and slaw dogs and hours of Big Brother live feeds and catching up on my DVRed stuff when the hamsters sleep.

It’s supposed to rain a lot here. My yard has grass that is two feet tall in places and seeding.  My new yard kid seems to have fallen off the face of the earth and doesn’t answer his cell.  With the weather being super hot, and now super rainy, there are not people with lawnmowers roaming the streets much. I presume the asshole neighbors will call the country enforcement office soon. Whatever.

Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading Tamaratattles.com ! I think I’ll have one more chili dog before bed! Maybe I’ll enter the contest next yea!

I hope everyone has a great 4th. Please be careful in the waters of North/South Carolina. There has been an increase of shark attacks

Tamra, thanks again for this blog, you work really hard to bring us all the latest info. I really appreciate 🙂

Please don’t swim or wade anywhere near piers or in late afternoon/early evening. The thinking is that our ocean water is unusually warm early this year and that shark mating season is later than normal. Be safe.

Pip, you poor deprived child. A slaw dog is a hot dog done usually one of two ways. Either hot dog, mustard, chili, onions and coleslaw or the same without the chili. At least it’s that way in North Carolina. I add Dukes mayonnaise to my hot dogs because it makes everything better lol. You really should give it a try. It is awesome.

I think I would like that, but probably minus the chili.
Okay… We discovered something at our local bar. It sounds sooo weird, but I swear, it’s amazing!
Grill a burger with a slice of Swiss cheese. (Grill the bun, too). Then put a thick coating (not too thick) of peanut butter (regular, not chunky) on the bottom bun. Put the burger with the melted Swiss on the bun. Then put coleslaw on the top of the burger, and then put the top bun on.
I know it sounds bizarre, but it is magnificent!! Savory and sweet. It’s their best seller.
We’re doing burgers and dogs tomorrow too. I have lots of slaw for the burgers. We will try the slaw dogs!

I’m doing a BBQ with family tomorrow. I gave my sister my shopping list of what to buy for me . Hot dogs was on my list, and she thought I would appreciate something different, so she bought me “fancy hot dogs”. My annoying sister bought me chorizo instead. She is so dumb, just because they are shaped like hot dogs, it does not mean they are like hot dogs. I was so annoyed. All I wanted was a basic bad for you fucking hot dog. So now I have to eat some grilled chorizo that is too thick for a hot dog bun.

UF this reminds me of that commercial where they say being like something doesn’t mean the same. I think it’s about car insurance or something. But the one that tickles me the most is the girl dressed as a beauty queen contestant sitting in some bit piece of machinery talking to the foreman about being “like” the operator and them both wanting lower insurance and world peace for the United of the Americas, therefore so yes. She then knocks over two portajohns with the machine. I laugh my ass off every time I see it. I know you have to be there but it’s the same with your chorizo/hotdogs. Hope you’re able to sneak out for real vein clogging, 4th of July hot dogs.

Don’t get me wrong I do like chorizo. Some brands are better than others. I typically have it when I’m mood for a Mexican style breakfast. But it’s July 4th & I want an American dog. Oh well. We’re making pork ribs too so there is that! Happy 4th to you!

In that case, pop a tortilla on the grill and have some chorizo tacos. You won’t regret it! If it’s real Chorizo, it’s best to take it out the casing and Pam fry it and then you can eat it with the tortilla. You can also dice potatoes into small squares and mix it in the skillet for more Delicious authentic tacos or like an appetizer for chips.

I’ve done this before when I’m in the mood for a Mexican breakfast. When the casing is removed the sausage has a weird texture; but the final product is delicious in a tortilla with eggs, potatoes, & Mexican white cheese.

We have hot dogs, fresh corn, potato salad, slaw, bratwurst, chips, slaw, burgers, cherries, watermelon, all the trimmings for burgers, beer, wine, tea and lemonade, and brownies and vanilla ice cream. I’ ll probably do some BBQ chicken if people object to red meat. Hopefully we’ll have left overs for the week. Corn was very inexpensive this week. 6 ears for a buck.

Ahh, TT, wish I lived closer and I’d come mow your lawn for you. I’ve recently rediscovered my love for push mowing. Can’t bring myself to fire the lawn people bc what if this new passion for mowing ends tomorrow? I don’t want to have to find new lawn people. So I’ve been going out and mowing the overgrown cemetery by my house a little at a time.

I’m eight weeks pregnant and bloated up like a balloon plus nauseous after I eat anything AND I haven’t told my family/friends I’m pregnant. So this should be fun, trying to make excuses to my mother why I’m not eating any of her potato salad and make excuses to everyone else about why I’m not drinking.

My dogs can barely move this morning from FREAKING out and running around all night listening to the fireworks. I gave them each a tranquilizer the vet said would knock them out. If anything it made Miller act like a raving lunatic. Tried locking them in the house and Paulie nearly launched herself through the glass doors. Now they both look like zombies. How did Banjo do?

Banjo would bark and I would let him the first few times because fireworks sound like gunfire and thunder and I want him to bark at both of those things… So would let him bark and then call him over and pet him. Then he started talking like Scooby Doo instead. It was hysterical for the first five minutes, but aroun 2 am when the last fireworks were going off, it was less funny. During the height of the main event I gave him a giant KONG full off organic popcorn topped with some peanut butter. As long as there was something still in there (about five minutes) he didn’t even notice the noise. Later, I had a slice of cheese next to me and would occasionally give him a bite. It was all about distraction…

          Sorry your guys were traumatized.

Lots of drama in the ghetto today. A big white truck pulled out in front of my yard. I thought it was going to be someone asking to cut the grass. I was even going to let them do it on Sunday. But as it turns out, it was someone dropping off a methhead. Lovely. She apparently decided that the house next to me which has been empty for ages would be her new home so she started casing the place from my street and then going to the street behind that he house backs up to. She stood at the back of the house for a bit and I called the owners.

They came over and she was still back there hiding in the bushes. The lady (who was with her husband but apparently decided to handle it herself) told her that the house wasn’t empty and they have police in the family and they would have her arrested if she came back.

I decided to take Banjo for a walk because she was on our route and I wanted her to see that I have a big dog. She was not on the route that I saw, but as I talked to the neighbors, she came back asking me and the lady who just bitched her out for directions to an address on my street that may or may not exist. She said she was “errr. on a break”for a couple weeks. The lady who bitched her out gave her some assistance just like she wasn’t trying to squat on the property and she wandered off.

As I was typing this, some HUGE scary looking guy I had never seen before was loping in the direction she went. Not sure if that is related.

I don’t get why my ghetto story nested here. But the truck is back and sitting at the corner and there is another guy staring at the empty house again. UGH. What to do. I am not sure if it is the same truck or not.

Okay not the same truck the new truck was visiting another house. The guy staring at the house was walking one of those stupid little dogs for gay men who are fans of Paris Hilton. #paranoia

Just saw a huge fireworks show in my backyard. I like it. Banjo DID. NOT.

Can I talk about Flipping Out here? Because I didn’t know how much I missed this show until it was on again. Jeff hires morons because they look pretty, he deserves all the troubles that causes.
I have hotdogs but I like them plain with mustard and onion. No slaw or chili. I still can’t smell barbecue without feeling nauseated because of a neighbor who fired up the grill almost every effing day, until the smell made me gag.

SO happy the show is back! Watched season premiere this morning. I wonder what happened to Andrew? As soon as he started to not fuck up so much, there’s a new guy fucking up. I’m gonna miss Andrew – he was a huge pervert & it made me laugh! That’s probably a liability though..

Things are calming down now. I think most of what we heard was from the big event in the city park. Not much from the hood yet. And no gunfire which is quite odd.

I hope everyone is enjoying their 4th! The sperm donor (my x husband ) decided to keep our son the amount of time he is supposed to. First time in 3years. I am drinking wine and eating hot dogs #hightechrednecks
P.S. I swear, on TT’ers have any sense. I commented on a different site about Meg and this bitch wants to get into with me about rights and freedoms! Keep in mind there are 567 other negative comments on there and she came for me. I educated her ignorant ass.
I have an idea— in the next free for all thread, may we state our favorite TT moment?
OK I have to share mine now bc it cracks me up! When TT did the blog about Whit’s documentary on Halston. At the end TT said for us to check it out and tell her what we thought and we can all laugh and laugh. (Her words were funny mine seem silly)

Speaking of hot dogs: I recently saw that Sonic is offering a hot dog on a croissant roll with melted cheese and bacon! Talk about a heart stopper – but I want to try one before its’ ‘limited time offer’ expires. Although I may expire myself after eating one.
Everyone please keep your dogs inside or secured (or under the bed as my brown dog Charlie) during this weekend’s fireworks. I ‘lost’ two dogs when I was growing up because they were so fearful of the powerful noise they just had to escape. My parents’ riverfront home was a great view for the fireworks which were shot from a barge right out in front of us. I now live right around the corner from my old house so the fireworks are still up close and extremely frightening for my dog (my neighbors started shooting them last night & will continue through Sunday), The upside is that I get to see a great firework show from the comfort of a lawn chair in my driveway. Of course, there will be wine.
Happy 4th of July, Tamara, and to all your faithful!

A hot dog on a croissant sounds so wrong. But it is with bacon, so it much be good.
I agree about taking care of your pets, I had a cat freak out and run and I never saw him again. Pets get scared and you have to let then see you not be scared of the fireworks.

I am going to have to stop reading everyone’s holiday menus! Started a rather restrictive plant-based diet this week in response to heart disease diagnosis.
Instead of beer, it’s an apple-beet-ginger-carrot juice cocktail for me! Instead of a deep-fried hotdog, which sounds AMAZING, I’ll be gnoshing on a black bean, cabbage, corn salad.
One thing I won’t ever give up is TT’s blog. 🙂 Happy Birthday, USA!

I can relate to needing a modified 4th menu, as i started weight watchers recently. Heres my “almost guilt-free” menu: Morningstar veggie burgers, nix the bun. Grilled shrimp lettuce wraps with fresh cilantro and green onion. Plus grilled lemon halves- a spitz goes a long way on the shrimp.

My favorite hotdog was called Eastbound & Down Hot Dog. We had a great joint called HD1 in Atlanta run by one of the Celebrity TV Top Chef Richard Blaise. It had an in-house made frank, Carolina pulled pork, mustard slaw and mop sauce. Awesome! Unfortunately they decided to convert the joint to a Flip Burger Boutique by the same owners and the hot dog did not carry over to the the new menu.

All the party people swooped in to my apartment complex yesterday morning, and took up every single parking space. So, I wasn’t able to go grocery shopping. If I had, I would have had to park several buildings away, and drag my groceries up and down the hill.

So…I ordered pizza for delivery. Actually, 2 pizzas, and a side of brownies. That will take me through the weekend. Anything left over, I can freeze.

I am spending the holiday alone, as usual. That’s how I like it. Tonight, I will be able to see the city fireworks from the comfort of my balcony. I just won’t have any wine to go with it.

Hopefully, the guy in the next building will not shoot rockets from his balcony, like he did last year. That’s against the fire code here. So is firing up a BBQ grill on your balcony. No private BBQ in Kansas City? Go figure. But, it’s a $500 fine, and they take your grill.

Anyway, meanwhile, I am napping and watching “Criminal Minds” on ion.
Everyone, please have a safe and happy 4th!

      Omg, that sounds GOOD!

I had a friend once who made “pickled ears”. They were dried apricots in a mason jar, covered in vodka, and kept in a dark cabinet. The dried apricots soak up the vodka. The booze left in the jar is tasty, but eating the fruit will knock you on your butt.

It’s rainy here. I started my holiday earlier by re-watching Downton Abbey from season one 🙂 I’ve been cooking too. So it’s hot dogs (not fancy, just dijon and vidalias), beans and rice, broccoli/blue cheese pasta salad, roasted red peppers, then strawberries and ice cream later. All day beer too.
I finally purchased a fire stick (amazon) and I could not be happier. My internet was off/on during the storms and Downton Abbey was never interrupted.
    Happy 4th to everyone celebrating!

I suffer from a malady I like to call “contempt prior to investigation”. I’m sure I won’t like or even hate this or that. Then when I finally, grudgingly try whatever it is out, I find it’s actually pretty good.

Which leads me to Bravo’s “Odd Mom Out”. I have avoided the show, certain I would hate it. How could I not hate it when Bravo seems to be doing everything in it’s power to drive me away with the river of crap it keeps coming up with. Anyway, I caught Jill Kargman, ,the creative writer and star of “Moms” on WWHL. I found her charming and funny so I decided to give “Mom” a try and surprise, surprise I liked it quite a bit and happily recommend it to my fellow tattlers.

    See? Contempt prior to investigation.
