love

I love, love, love that one of my favorite posters got married in Texas Friday. BECAUSE HE COULD. They need to sent me their registry. I know they did it as soon as they could but. People will want to send gifts. Avoid the blender thing. And you can ID yourself here or not.

I’m so happy for you!.

Back to me, lol.  I am still doing more things in the world and trying to balance the blog with having a life. I appreciate all the things  y’al send me more than ever. I just can’t be 24/7  on top of things anymore. I am hanging with a friend and walking and hiking and training Banjo again.  And eating tomatoes!

Tomatos

I really needed to get away from “The News” It was hitting too close to home for me. I have been and continue to be on a diet of less news, less  Internet and more interacting with nature. I’ve spent the last few years being here every day hanging on the latest Entertainment News.  And while I love it, I need some balance.

So I greatly appreciate it when you send me things. I don’t have time to periscope and such. I am trying to spend LESS time looking for stories and more time looking for life experiences in the real world. Like eating BLTs from my garden. 🙂

I also plan on a lot more staycations.

So what are y’all up to this summer? I bought a personal sized watermelon today. I hope it is good because it will be breakfast, sometime after noon. 🙂

It feels like the universe has more love in it than it did yesterday. Been glued to the news before and after work. All the celebrations, Obama singing Amazing Grace. Justice Kennedy’s poetic words.
    So much happiness and love.
On a personal level, it’s been a week of love as well.
A good friend of mine was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. This is a type of cancer that usually affects people over 60. My friend is only 43. He, his wife and all of us who love him spent a spent a harrowing week waiting for the lab results that would tell us if he had the good markers which would let him live for decades or the bad that would take him in a few years. Great news came yesterday: it’s the good prognosis kind.
My son began college on Monday. I went with him with the excuse that I wanted to make an appointment with the counselor for students with disabilities and to help him buy his books. However, I really went just to see him break through that wall. It was hot, the student store was packed, we were climbing stairs all over the place (the campus is situated on the side of a hill), but we had a lot of fun. Joe was not paranoid or anxious. His skin didn’t feel like it was on fire (like it did the last time we tried to get him back to school). He noticed all the boys were dressed pretty much in the same shorts and tee shirt he was wearing. When we were waiting in the endless line at the book store, he noticed a mom and son a few spaces ahead of us. He said to me, “they are just like us.” Yes they were. We got his books, had a quick lunch and parted ways. He, off to his class, me to the parking lot.
Monday was my victory run. What ever else happens, when I get to that point when I am taking my last conscious breath, I can say, I did that. I saved him.
And now everyone can get married. And there’s just so much love in the universe.
Thank you, Tamara. Have a great day out doors!

    What a wonderful post!

I am so excited and happy for everyone, I can hardly stand it! When the news came over my TV, I was cringing, waiting for some horrible announcement. I agree, when the ruling was read, I felt an immediate change in the world. Everything seemed lighter and brighter.

I spent the day on Facebook yesterday. One dear friend has been struggling for years, and now, he is so happy! His constant posts of celebration brought me to tears. It really put things in perspective for me.

Gay or not, this is a great time for everyone!

My plans? They are similar to yours, TT. I plan on getting out in the world more. I am still recovering, and still have a way to go before I can go back to work. But when I can, I plan on building a free lance art business, and put all those years of education to good use.

Years ago, I was inspired, and wrote a children’s book. I was in the beginning stages of doing the illustrations when I switched gears and went to Disney. I had to put the project aside, otherwise they would own the rights to everything.

That project is now sitting in my living room, in storyboard form. I think I am finally ready to finish it. I just need to get my body to cooperate. (My fingers are still fairly numb from neuropathy, but I’m getting there!)

I haven’t done any drawing for YEARS! Disney kind of turned me off to creating. Turning down their internship was one of the BEST decisions I ever made, because now, my mind belongs to ME! Anyway, I’m out of practice, and may need to change my style a bit. But, I will get there. I’m going to practice by doing a pet portrait for a dear friend. You can see samples of my previous work on my Facebook page.

Otherwise, I called the social worker at the Cancer Center, and got a couple of phone numbers. I may not be ready to work, but I want to donate some time, and volunteer to help others who are on their own journey.

I’m pretty much stuck at home now. My treatments ended a year ago this month, and I am still recovering from side effects. My doctors say to expect a very slow recovery of at least 2 years. The neuropathy in my hands and feet may be permanent. As an artist, that sucks. But…I have a tendency to adapt to change, so it’s all good. I’m just grateful to be here. It could have easily gone the other way.

Actually, breast cancer saved my life. When I went in for the chest port surgery, they found a rare heart problem that is hard to detect. I was sent back in for an emergency pacemaker. Without it, I would have simply died in my sleep.

It’s all in how you look at things, I guess. I certainly DO have 9 lives!

Haha. I knew I would be OK. That surgery was on 9/9, and I was in preop room #9. To me, that was a sign. 🙂

I wore a variety of cat ear hats while in treatment. The Cat being a symbol of strength, flexibility, wit, landing on my feet, and having 9 lives. It was a great conversation starter, and made a lot of people in treatment laugh. I’m a firm believer in laughing at myself, and not taking things too seriously. Even cancer.

Watermelon is my absolute favorite fruit. For 6 months of out the year I always have it in my fridge. I love mine to be firm, crunchy & juicy. I won’t eat a mushy watermelon. So far this year I bought a some good ones as many bad ones. Nothing is more frustrating that chilling a watermelon for 2 days in anticipation of it being good, only to cut it open to find to be a bad one. I also don’t even know why feta on watermelons is a thing. Not a good combo at all though I do love each separately.

Plus watermelon is really good for you in many ways.

Sometimes when I have a watermelon that’s too mushy, I just cut it up & put in the blender and make watermelon juice, that way I really don’t waste the melon. It produces soooo much beverage that sometimes I can’t drink all of it.

At the cricket, people used to make a hole into the watermelon and pour vodka in it. It would be absorbed and they would get drunk eating their melon. Now watermelons are banned there lol.

    Tamara , awesome plans!!

Just had a staycation…it rocked..checked out blues bars – mini festivals and visited a park that is less than an hour from us..1000 acres…yet we only visit it once a year..that is crazy..so we went to that park 3 different times..had a blast!

Right now our city is celebrating with Jazz festivals..and this month we are going to fireworks at the beach and the Pride parade..I think our city is the last to celebrate…end of July..

Put the keys away for the summer, we are walking everywhere..or taking the bus..odd..but now traffic is not our problem..

This and more walking around – will be our plans for the summer.

Enjoy the air …well..being outside and good for you!!!

Tamara I’ve taken a break from news for just over a year now. I’m periphally aware of what’s going on thanks to the internet, but my mind is no longer saturated with horrific images, heart breaking deaths, and traumatic stories. I’m too old to deal with all the sadness in the world right now. It’s just too much for my heart.

But that led to an amazing moment yesterday when my girlfriend emailed me “Happy Legal to be Married Friday!”. I had had NO IDEA that a decision was coming up! The news was just more than I could even absorb. I felt like I’d gone to sleep and woke up in a different world – which we all did, of course. A dozen years ago I could not imagine that this would actually happen in my lifetime. It just makes my heart burst to know there is now more love in the world than there is hate.

Congrats Xanadude, I am SO happy for you! And for me, and my friends, and for every other gay couple in the US and for every straight couple too, because this ruling does not take anything away from the institution of marriage, it adds to it and makes it even stronger and more meaningful. <3 <3 <3

The sole thing I’m now wishing for is that a decade from now gay divorce rates are a fraction of a percentage of the staggering hetero divorce rates – and that some John Oliver type does an expose on it. It’s inconsequential and petty but I’m still pulling for it.

Lots of haters here where I live, who seem to thing the ruling means they either have to give up their religion, or divorce and enter a same sex marriage. They still don’t approve of interracial marriage here, same sex is just beyond their scope of reality. It’s sad that those who claim to be “Christians” are quick to quote the Bible when it suits them. But they forget the part about not judging others.

Enjoy every moment of our Long Hot Summer, everyone. TT, ever tried a Ladybug? Freeze small chunks of watermelon, seeds welcome, in a single layer on a cookie sheet. When they’re frozen, put them in a blender with vodka and sugar (powdered or plain) and blend until slushy. Serve in old- fashioned glasses or mason jars garnished with thin lime slices. The watermelon seeds will settle to the bottom…looks like a Ladybug! Pretty! I just had fresh NC blueberries on Noose’s Raspberry Yogurt with whipped cream. Yum!

PEOPLE LIKE YOU WILL LURK AND MONITOR THE RESPONSES. You can’t help it. Your world is as small as your mind.

I’m so glad I am NOT a “Christian”. I wouldn’t care if people (gay or straight, or anything in between) had wild orgies in the streets. As long as they leave room for me to walk around, go for it.

To me, this decision is not so much about being gay as it is being EQUAL. I just don’t understand the people who spew bible verses that limit someone’s rights and/or freedoms, then turn around and complain about how the government is taking away rights and/or freedoms.

This is not Burger King. You can’t just have it your way.

Can someone please explain to me how a religion based on Love can deny the joy and happiness of millions of people? Because, I really don’t understand this stupid argument.

Does the Window Licking Section have a special stained glass area for these bigots?

No stained glass windows. But there is gay porn on a loop.

Tanya is probably just a slow reader and hasn’t made it to the NEW testament yet. Nor does she probably understand why the Bible has two parts. Or why lots of churches just pass out the New Testament to new members.

What does same sex marriage have to do with any other person’s salvation? The same type of Biblical arguments were brought up with Loving vs. Virginia.

Marriage update: Louisiana caves and will be issuing licenses after big Business and New Orleans put the pressure on. Alabama is the lone state hold out at this point.

On the car radio just now they kept saying TEXAS I the last holdout and that MS finally just caved.

Texas AG is saying individual clerks can opt out but SOMEONE has to do them. The holdout counties are starting to comply.
Alabama is the last statewide holdout
