Daily Tea for Monday: Varietal Devious & Unreal

June 1, 2015 by tamaratattles 63 Comments

Unreal Feminist
Still from UnReal. This is Rachel the protagonist.

We are going to have rain all week here. Hopefully there will be some patches of sun. The weather seems to mess with my crappy phone and cause me to lose cable but I think I’ve figured out how to fix it. I am amazingly good at fixing things if it means not having to go buy a new one.

I am starting two new summer shows tonight. I doubt I will recap either one unless there is some sort of overwhelming interest. Plus being Monday night shows, There will be plenty of Bravo conflicts over the season. Both are on Lifetime.

First is Devious Maids.  This is a deliciously campy soap about a group of Hispanic maids in a wealthy neighborhood who know all the dirt on everyone. Last season one of the maids son was falsely accused of murder. She was actually an undercover maid trying to solve the mystery and save her son.  This season there is another murder to solve.  The show makes fun of itself by having this season’s murder at the same residence as last season. The matriarch is seen telling the cops something like, “Oh my, we haven’t had a murder at our house in ages!” This show is the kind of silly novel you buy to read on the beach where no one you know can see you. It’s fun but silly and the mystery part is fairly well written.  The cast includes producer Eva Longoria, Susan Lucci and this season’s new edition, Naya Rivera. It’s the third season and now I wonder if I missed one.

The other show is called  UnReal . From the website, “UnREAL is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg, a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with, and among, the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the program’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King, demands. What ensues is an eye-opening look at what happens in the outrageous world of unscripted television, where being a contestant can be vicious and being a producer a whole other reality.” This is a brand new show about a woman who produces a dating competition show and all the weird behind the scenes stuff. I live for this sort of thing.

Just what I need two trashy summer shows to watch without you guys. 🙂 Oh both shows are on Lifetime.  Devious Maids comes on at 9 conflicting with lots of things including the finale of Shahs and UnReal comes on at ten which also conflicts with some things, so I will be delayed in my viewings. Oh Southern Charm reunion.  So I’ll recap Bravo and watch the other two later. Oh and Devious Maids is filmed in Atlanta!

Finally, I’m going to need a yankee who is still speaking to me who has grown a Rutgers tomato to come the gardening page.

So how is your Monday going? This is your post for all “off topic” comments. Talk about whatever you can talk here while still following the commenting rules about links or trying to tell people how to use Google. 🙂

So looking forward to unReal. Interesting to get some idea how much of the drama is truly producer driven or the lengths production will go to further a storyline

Me too, UnReal should be good. I will have my reality bubble further burst. Not much faith now, but I still get caught up in it anyway.

Chrisley Knows Best begins their 3rd season on Tuesday. It is a simple but cute show. I tried the first 1 or 2 episodes of Devious Maids and quit. They were so devious they provoked me, I decided I didn’t need another show I’d hate the stars. I know, I may be missing out on good stuff.

I am going to give a new Lifetime series Strange Empire a shot. My favorite new show so far is Animal Planet’s Treetop Cat Rescue. It is real reality about 2 arborists that donate their abilities to rescue cats from tall trees in Oregon. Suspence and cuteness.

TT, enjoy your new shows without us. I am actually pouting but I cannot blame you for wanting to have them just for yourself. You have spoiled us, you make our TV watching more fun with your good blogs, stories, and for us to all share. Even some things I don’t watch, I know enough that I am interested in what you have to say about them.

Well, if anyone wants to recap something, I’d be open to it, but so far the only people to make the cut are UF and Lady C and I feel bad having to tell someone no. Brevity is a good thing. I have to hand code things from other people (I write directly into WP which is easy). If you have a new show you want to recap, and won’t hate me if I am not interested… send me a sample recap. 🙂

In other news, I very rarely cover the Kardashian chick with the sex tape, but I am not believing she herself is pregnant. I expect a miscarriage story soon or a clarification that they are using a surrogate. I’ve never seen anyone hate pregnancy more than she did.

Color me bitch. But I ain’t buying this bullshit. And don’t really care.

Studies show pregnancy is easier for fit women and women who maintain exercise and nutrition throughout. I know she works out but I’ve always wondered if implants like her butt and boobs become cumbersome and uncomfortable during pregnancy. Also if you’ve had a bunch of lipo idoes your body gain correctly to support the weight of the child? These are probably silly things to wonder.

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper are coming to the Cobb Energy Center in “Atlanta” on June 20. There are 2,750 seats there. When it first opened I was one of the first teachers to contact the guy in charge of educational field trips. (He has since moved on). But my emails with him got my kids, and my entire grade level special treatment (again, things like this would be used against me later at my job. l don’t even remember how, but mostly I recall my principal, maybe it was the one who had never heard of Rembrandt, Monet or Renoir didn’t have an affinity for the arts. ) We were always the first to sign up, and after some begging to be ALLOWED to go for like half price or less to the field trips we got really sweet seats. It is a beautiful location.

In 2007, I decided to take myself to the Opera. I was just dusting today… No SERIOUSLY (technically it was yesterday) and I had a nesting day and cleaned up a bit. One of the things I dusted was the little teakwood thingy where I drop my keys and keep my wireless landline for the living room and my Vaping stuff and miscellaneous things. It was there I saw my fan. Like the kind you whip open in a dramatic Asian moment. I went to see Turnadot. I paid the horrific parking fee and went in to buy a ticket.

They were pricey. I forget what pricey to me was then, but I was trying to figure out how bad I wanted to go to the Opera considering I was all dressed up and already there.

Here is a life hack for you. Be a loser. Go places alone. If you do, you will discover that people at every major even have no shows. Maybe they bought ten tickets and one person had to stay home with a sick kid.

Or in this case, a guy got stood up and gave me his date’s ticket. This happens to me A LOT MORE THAN YOU WOULD THINK when I show up places alone and the tickets are usually really good. I will stop telling you that whole story now..

And get back on topic. Andy and Andy are selling out this arena. AND THE FIRST TWO HUNDRED SEATS or more are VIP and cost over $375 with fees and parking. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

The cheapest seats are $75 and it looks like the cut out at least 500 of them. So they could “sell out: with those not sold”

So all of this is to say I may go and pay the parking and see if anyone gives me a ticket. It will be a ten dollar adventure if I don’t go somewhere that week. I might be at the beach. 🙂 But seriously. 2000 people are going to pay out the ass for the two Andys to sit there and chat? How long will that last? What fresh hell will getting out of the parking lot be? Is it worth it?

Definitely worth it. I am betting you will get a seat. I love doing stuff by myself. My favorite are me + restaurant + my kindle. I actually would rather go out to eat alone than with other people.

I love that you love opera and that’s my favorite [probably for Nessun Dorma, the best aria EVER], although I have only seen Carmen, Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro. That was so long ago and I wonder why I haven’t been back. Thanks for the nudge.
I went alone, too. Couldn’t get anyone to go with me.

Great idea to go and see if you can pick up a free/discounted ticket. I cannot believe anyone would pay 20 bucks, much less $375 to see these Andy’s. Ugh.

Um Cohen is billing himself as an Emmy Award Winning host ? “Andy Cohen is an Emmy award-winning host and Executive Producer of “Watch What Happens: Live,” Bravo’s late night, interactive talk show. Cohen is also the Executive Producer of the wildly popular “Real Housewives” series. Both seem to have the same moron who doesn’t know how to use an apostrophe posting their bios. Cooper’s says “Anderson Cooper is the multiple Emmy award-winning CNN anchor and correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes. He has covered most major news events in the US and around the world for the past 23 years, and his memoir, Dispatches from the Edge, topped the New York Times’ Bestseller list.”

This is reminiscent of Teresa Giudice and her “I’m a New York Times Best Selling Listed Persone who Rights Really good Books and stuff.”

Oh my God, apostrophe abuse has really increased lately. I’ve noticed it especially since Joan Rivers died. Now just any word ending in “s” gets an apostrophe, regardless of necessity! And there is a great fear of properly adding an “s” (e.g. “Joan Rivers’s apartment” or “Diana Ross’s songs”). Drives me crazy.

Yesterday in a playful mood I posted something on friend’s timeline having to do with her applying to be a wife on The Real Housewives of New Orleans when they eventually get around to creating it. It was a fun thread where we discussed some of the antics the housewives could get up to in the city, like falling into the shark tank at the aquarium, and the housewife killing the shark. A couple of hours later one of my friends posted a picture of her and NeNe Leaks on Facebook with a caption asserting how much they were like sisters. Just a cautionary tale I guess. The universe plays to win sometimes and right now it’s on NeNe’s side I think.

Devious Maids is a super fun, summer show. Susan Lucci is great at poking fun at herself. The son framed for murder was Season 1. Last year was Season 2 and focused on a few storylines — including a mystery about a new maid Opal who works with Marisol, and Zoila leaving her husband and dating. Hope Season 3 is good. I highly recommend Penny Dreadful which is a wonderfully acted and well written vehicle for various classic horror genres, including the Wolfman, Frankenstein, relatively benign witches, evil witchcraft and demonic possession. These subjects are cleverly interwoven to produce a highly imaginative and polished tour de force with a brilliant ensemble of very good acting.

So I had to venture out into the world a bit earlier. Due to a variety of events that began with a couple cups of coffee (I’m not a big coffee drinker) then a cleaning spree, then two recaps, then the Marilyn Monroe movie on lifetime (worth a watch) Then Teresa’s tweet. Then a couple beers trying to get sleepy then a sunrise email from Eloise resulting in another post, the interview with Tracy Morgan and THEN sleep, I was not at my finest moment with regard to attitude or reflexes. My brain still feels like oatmeal.

The trip was less than two miles. The TO mile went without incident other than RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC and the FROM mile; however, was rife with peril. I going down the road my street goes off of, at under 30 (speed limit is 25) and I see this poodle. No collar, filthy dirty (obviously not a self cleaner like Banjo) wandering in a yard to my right. I start to slow down in sort of slow motion and it wanders right out in front of me. I beep and it just stands there. I realize I am still not fully stopped and can barely see it over the hood as I come to a stop. He FINALLY gets out of the road and I am telling myself what just happened out lout. Holy shit!, I say too myself, You almost hit a dog!

I turn down my street glad there is only a couple hundred feet to my driveway when a fucking squirrel jumps in front of my car and then VERY VERY VERY slowly crosses the road.

Dayum. WTF is the universe trying to tell me? It was freaky.

I unREAL is available to view on Lifetime. I thought they had to wait a week. Glad they don’t. I’ll try it;)

Unreal was AWESOME. And so was Devious Maids. I was hoping that season 2 of DM would be on demand but it is not. 🙁 I feel like I missed the stuff about The one maid’s daughter (Alejandra???) having a boyfriend who is part of a celebrity burglary type ring. I do remember her mother’s new boyfriend though. I think I might have just missed a few episodes of Season 2.

Unreal is something you should all be watching.

I thoroughly enjoyed UnREAL. Can’t wait to see what happens in upcoming episodes and to read your recaps which include your feedback.

I love it too, but I won’t be recapping. These are two shows I like to keep for myself. I can’t really enjoy a show if I have to type everything that is happening while I watch.

Do any TT fans watch Game of Thrones? If so, did y’all also hold your breath for the battle at the end of the last episode?? Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with reality TV, but it was so amazing that I had to comment!

Hi Victoria Lucille. I am a big GoT fan. That was one amazing battle! Did you read the books? They are changing some things from the books, so It’s fun because I don’t know what is going to happen next. Only two more episodes (sobs). George R R Martin needs to write the 6th book!!

I’ve read all but the last one published. I love the books, but I’m really loving this season of the show! I agree completely that it’s quite fun this season with the changes. Love the suspense!
