SOTG-075-Pt_-1-Dont-Mess-With-Texas

Some Texan friends of mine have been having a hard time. They have been ever in my thoughts. But Texans are fine. It sort of spoke to my heart having  a brief interaction with my favorite Texan as his phone battery was dying. And after today, I realize  I need to get a damn cellphone so I can talk with friend in the end times. I was without phone or Internet today.  I realized I am well armed to, you know, shoot people, during the Zombie Apocalypse but it might be nice to have contact with others. Go figure.

The same weather pattern has been moving here. I did blog last night’s shows but I don’t have the will to do all the tech stuff to get it up this morning. I barely got internet back and if I don’t type into WordPress it is a HUGE PITA.

My plants are flooded on the first day. I bailed water out or the pots but I don’t really know what to do about this. Can I keep the rain off all the plants.?

The window licking section continues to grow.  People really should read my rules and if they still can’t figure out why they are a window licker maybe they tried to kick a bride while she was down?  Or maybe they are cunts in general? Or maybe the broke a rule?

But right now, I’d rather ban you than wonder what dumbfuck thing you will do while I may be out of pocket.

BUT IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE COMMMENTING RULES NOW IS THE FUCKING TIME!

I went to college in the great state of Texas… truly genuine and lovely people.
They are in weather hell right now and I spoke with my old boyfriend today who lives there. He said it’s pretty bad.
Thinking of and praying for my Texas friends.

I read the rules every couple of months to make sure I’m not breaking any of them . I try my best. I feel like I like everyone you do (I too loved Joyce!) and dislike the same people you do as well. However, I may dislike Kim and Brandi more than you. I thought you really detested Kim but I can tell people’s vitriol towards her has started to disgust you. I apologize that you have to read these comments but I do feel the way I do. I wonder, should I stop commenting on things regarding Kim?
BTW, I don’t have a cell phone either, lol.

      Meredo-
I have struggled with that a bit myself here. It’s difficult when you don’t like someone, but are nervous about offending Tamara or other readers. But I think the point of this is that we are all going to have our heroes and villains and we are not always going to agree. I try to remember to be respectful, although sometimes it’s hard.
I don’t care for Kathryn (SC), Tamara does. Sometimes I need to remember that I don’t have to censor myself because this is a blog to share our thoughts and opinions, whether or not we agree.
I don’t think Tamara is opposed to people disagreeing with whom she chooses to like. I think it’s all the other bullshit that gives her a big, fat headache. That’s my guess… And if I’m wrong, I expect to be scolded!

She managed to get rid of the smell with a combo of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. She was wearing her favorite jeans, so she’s trying to wash out the smell–but we have little hope of their salvage. Hey, we have serial killers too! 🙂

That’s what I’ve used it for; my woven sandal straps (which are that sturdy, industrial strap weave) a nylon jacket and heavy cotton duck fabric LL Bean bag that were pee’d on by a cat. I was able to dilute for the clothes but full strength for sandal straps.

It is the greatest service to be part of and there are some days I do miss it. That being said, you don’t appreciate freedom until you finally live it. Goodbye deployments, goodbye wars, goodbye 5:30 alarms, goodbye 3 section duty, goodbye forced fed social events where everyone (spouses included) wear their rank on their sleeves! In my opinion, the problem is that people keep speculating about and taking jabs at children (adults or minors) and adults that did not sign up for reality TV. Just don’t do it. Tamara prides herself in posting info that she has verified as much as possible. Don’t talk about rumors unless you clearly state “allegedly”. Do not talk shit about people who are seriously ill or have psych issues. Sometimes you have to choose not to comments on a topic if your opinions are strongly against the majority or face the consequences. Don’t post anything that may get Tamara sued. And the major one, DON’T BE A “CS”. It’s easy to stay out of the WL section.

I can’t believe what happened to Houston. I’ve never seen that much flooding that wasn’t caused by a hurricane. Austin floods more than people realize because it sits on limestone so flash flooding happens. The last time it was this bad was about 20 years ago when the area between San Antonio and Austin flooded. There are four major rivers that flow through that area. The Blanco, The Comal, The Colorado, and The Guadalupe. The Colorado is damned up creating the highland lake chain. So far, they have only opened a few of the flood gates on the Colorado but the Blanco went out of its banks. The Comal and Guadalupe are right at the spill point. My town is on the Guadalupe with the Comal just south of us. We are now evacuating the areas around the Guadalupe and Downtown. Riverside park has been closed for a week with the Zoo evacuated. We are waiting for the crest. The last time it was this bad it wiped out the small town next to us and tore up the highway between here and Austin. If it’s not one thing it’s another here!

Angel? This breaks my heart. Please be safe and this includes everyone on this rainbelt. Tarp tent what you can with your gardens, shore up your plants with mud or cloth rags at the base, tilt your planters and plastic wrap or store bag to prevent drowning or loss of soil. We’ve been dealing with rain & frost all month. This sucks folks. First & foremost, stay safe, and take of each other. If cell towers go out, usually text messaging still goes through. My prayers are with you, Angel? — I live in Nashville, and we had a devastating flood in May 2010, with twenty one people killed in Tennessee. We have flash-flooding often here, so no one paid attention as the waters started to rise. No one was prepared. We are still recovering, and I just pray for ya’ll that things get better soon. Be safe. xoxo

Thanks everyone. I think it will be ok. It stopped raining yesterday, and so far (fingers crossed), it hasn’t rained here since. We are an hour and a half south of Houston. They got rain again this morning. The crest should not flood outside of downtown and the park area. 20 years ago we had three rivers crest at the same time which caused all the damage. They seem prepared this time. They have already shut down Hwy. 183 between us and Austin so no one will be traveling along the Guadalupe. The town next to us sits in a big bend in the river. Hopefully they will not be wiped out again.

Yes. The topography here is hard to describe. Most of the city sits on a higher elevation than downtown and the park area. There is a large slope down to the Guadalupe. It’s a major river. The Blanco (big flood in Wimberly) flows into it via the San Marcos river. The Comal also flows into it. That’s where the flooding was this weekend. It was out of its banks once already. The problem areas are in the small towns around us.

We had to stay with my aunt about 20 miles from our home for a couple months during clean up. Our cat got ran away the last week we were there. Two weeks after we moved back home Muffin found her way back home some how we couldn’t believe it.

My thoughts are with the people of Texas. We’ve had a lot of rain here, too (only 4 dry days this month), and parts of KC are flooded, but nothing like Texas.

If you don’t plan on using your cell phone that much, try a prepaid plan. That’s what I have, and it’s only $15 a month. I can use that for calls, text or internet, as I please. I still don’t have a smartphone. Yes, they do still make “dumbphones”. For your business, a smartphone would probably be a good idea.

As for the rules, I’m getting better, I hope. Still working on #10. But, I think I have it now.

If not, please reserve a seat for me in the balcony section. 🙂

When TT edits comments, I have a kind of mixed reaction to it. On the one hand, I’m grateful. It’s like she sees the momentum of vitriol ramping up and she tries to curb it. Call someone a CS who is falling down hammered on reality tv? Fine. Then people start suggesting that person is better off dead because their neighbor told them rumors about the kids? Not Fine.

On the other, it makes me sad that she does all the edits. I’m sure it eats at a person to play hall monitor 24/7. I’d tear my hair out.

(**One time, she edited me. The second I’d made the comment, I wanted to take it back. It was a comment made in the “bubble” of my own thoughts but the second I saw it in writing, I realized “crap, this could cause trouble for TT”. She just vaporized the comment. I was so freaking grateful. Didn’t even email her about it, she was just doing housecleaning.)

Then other times, I’ve triple checked, making sure I’m following all the rules & I end up in the WLS scratching my head trying to figure out what I said. I don’t dare ask because → scared! I just make the best of it – selling window cleaner to all the regulars & wait for her to let me out.

Can’t imagine sifting through dozens if not hundreds of comments every day. Not a job I would want. I’d probably spent most of my time arguing with the WL’s.

I feel bad for Texans today..not so much yesterday. All I could think about yesterday was the way they Gov of Texas was implying last week that the Fed Gov was trying to take over TX (Jade Helm) and put it’s citizens in Fema camps. They wanted to to secede from the USA. Now today, after the floods, they want our help, government handouts to help them. Yesterday I couldn’t care less about Texas but after seeing the devastation I’ve softened a little and I hope the folks get the help they need.

So he should NOT reassure his constituents regarding their fears about the US special forces coming to their state to practice their special ops techniques? He show just tell them their fears are unfounded? All sorts of state legislators offices are blowing up with people who are afraid of the whole thing. Especially those in Utah and Texas who were singled out on a map circulating about that says they are going to be consider “the hostile (Red) environments.

There are 26 million people in Texas. How many do you think are blowing up the legislator’s offices? Did they storm the State Capitol? No. It’s a few extremists causing controversy and republican/tea party tactics as usual against the Obama (democrats) administration. The majority of veterans support it from what I’ve read.

Greg Abbott is a clown so are Louie Gohmert and Ted (I was born in Canada) Cruz. They all egged on the the nutjobs in TX regarding the military exercises or Jade Helm as it’s being called. Its not like it’s the first time nor will it be the last time we’ve had military exercises in Texas.. This whole “the govt is coming” meme started with the extremists and the politicians joined in. It’s ridiculous to think the US govt would invade Tx. It’s not like it would be difficult to do but to have Texas politicians saying they want to secede one day and then the next day come to DC begging for help just seems rather hypocritical to me. I don’t know if I want my tax dollars going to a state whose politicians encourage civil disobedience. OAN: Just because u don’t believe it doesn’t mean its not true. Try google before commenting.

As a Dallasite, Houston baffles me. The No Zoning thing is just weird – one our last trip there, on one street it was literally: House, House, childrens toy store, Kolachi Store, House, Porn Shop, House, Dry Cleaner.
We aren’t getting it as bad as Houston, but I have NEVER seen the Trinity River this full. Driving home has become an exercise in guessing whether a road will be open or not, and I live like six minutes from work.

San Antonio is great! I love that city. I don’t know what “a young city” exactly is but it is growing. It’s really grown in the last thirty years. It’s historic and young at the same time. Huge Hispanic culture. Rates are reasonable in San Antonio as compared to where I am and Austin. You have the river walk, pro sports, missions, sea world, six flags fiesta texas, a nice size zoo, Brackenridge park and gardens, annual celebrations, close to canyon lake, New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Austin, it’s on the edge of the Hill country, and has good weather (mostly). Highways are easy to learn, traffic not that bad. I spent a lot of time in my twenties there!

I think your Govenor may be a little paranoid, Xany.
However with Texas being in the news and your descriptions of Houston (I’ve been to every major city in Texas), it got me to thinking about Texas.
I just remembered that when you are driving in the country where there are many, many miles between cities, there are these bizarre porno shops in the middle of no where. That was so strange to me. You would drive for miles and see a Texaco all alone in the middle of no where. Then you would drive more miles through absolutely nothing… No houses, no shops, just country. And then there would be a porno/ strip joint in the middle of NO WHERE. Just sitting there all by itself. There were lots of isolated porn places. That use to trip me out. Up here they are all condensed into a few areas of the city.

Still miss the tex-mex, though. And the sweet tea!

Did you just ADMIT to the rules violation of not participating in the Tomato Plant Therapy Project?

You must go first thing and purchase a tomato plant. Preferably a seedling and not like a full on ginormous plant with fruit, but the second will still keep you in good standing. Then you must plant and care for the plant and report on your progress.

Most of us have moved on to step two in the process, walk outside for at least 15 minutes a day.

This is a mandatory rule because must of us are menopausal/depressed/fat/isolating/mentally challenged folks capable of going off at any moment. Help us, help you.

Now that you have admitted your lack of compliance you will be bullied until genuine compliance occurs. Check out the gardening page, link at the top of the page by the commenting rules link.

I got this damn dog to bite burglars after my house was broken into. I didn’t want a dog before that. He was here to do a damn job. A canine employee.

How the hell is he so perfect? He literally waits for me to get up at 10, noon, 2 pm to pee most all the time. Now that we walk more often he is less mischevious. He is just such an easy dog, with what y’all know is NOT a easy person to live with.

I have forgotten to get dog food for two days so he I HAVE COOKED DINNER FOR HIM (organic black beans, organic rice) for two nights. He loves that.

Someone from here, sent me a ton of essential oils and lavender is good for keeping fleas at ticks at bay until I figure out the plan for that this season (no more Frontline) and it is starting to storm and it soothes him right down.

Basically, I am here blathering because I’ve fallen in love with the stupid dog that was supposed to have J O B. and not my heart.

Dogs are your best friend, Tamara. I’m madly in love with mine.
But can I ask, why aren’t you using Frontline anymore? Do you know something I don’t? We have been using it for years.

They changed the formula a couple years ago and it doesn’t work for us anymore. Plus it is pouring unnecessary poison on your dog. I also wonder if Banjo’s weird health thing was not related to it.

There are a lot of new options out there now we are exploring.

You have to read the story about a terminal dog going on an american bucket list road trip. So cute and sad.

Don’t zap that post, it is a side of you that we all love. I did check several times that you were the author. Not your usual style.

My Internet went out right after I posted that. I get all in my feelings about Banjo a lot here. LOL. I just got chosen by a good one. He doesn’t get into stuff, chew things, wake me up to go out, he housetrained himself. The only thing he will do is eat anything I leave on the coffee table and yank his bed out of his crate when I am in the shower or not home.

        He’s easy peasy.

I just read a sad/happy story about a guy who took his terminally ill dog on a bucket list road trip before he dies. So sad.

Speaking of Texas, do you have any inside scoop on the WACO Texas motorcycle brawl?

I’m very happy to report i have 2 small green tomatos!
TT, i also stopped using Frontline, i now use Comfortis that I get from the vet. It works great and its a soft pill you can easily wrap in a small piece of cheese. Im trying to learn how to groom so I bought a bar of flea and tick soap off Etsy from WildHerbs and it works well. Hope all is well

I give Banjo Comfortis at $27 a pill when he gets fleas, but do not want to do the poison every month. There are lots of better options.
