Kandi’s Ski Trip: I Finally Saw Episode One

RHOA Kandi's ski trip

I am just now seeing this for the first time.  I don’t think it is nearly as ratchet as y’all made it seem.

1) I TOTALLY agree with the aunts about their rooms. These are elderly women. They should have had the room that the daughters got in the first place. Who puts their teenagers in the room next door and tells their elderly aunts to hike out through the ice to their rooms up a flight of steps. WRONG.

2) Riley and Kaela can DO WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE TOLD. They are on a free vacation. Plus, you can sneak BOYS into that room in the boondocks or sneak in booze or pot or porn or whatever. Who wants a twin room up under your parents when you can have your own fucking suite?

3) Don Juan and Carmon are douchebags who think they are on vacation. THEY ARE NOT. They are on a work trip. How dare they mock the white boy for WORKING as they cool their jets? RHOA Kandi Todd

4) The white boy is a bit over eager, and I am certain that is script related, but he still is “the help” just like Don Juan and Carmon are “the help.” He is just much better at it and is doing what a real assistance does.

5) If my elderly aunt says she want to go home after I just paid for her old lady ass to come out. I’d call her a very nice limo and change her ticket, pack her shit, and send her home.

6) Kandi cries way too much.

7) Mama Joyce was kind of a decent person so far.

Did they really just send the old ladies (who drink) back across the ice to their rooms? WTF? Kandi is going to regret NOT BEING A MOTHER. She certainly doesn’t know how to be one with Riley. She doesn’t need another one.

Seriously,  who is all like, Oh I don’t know what to do, my spoiled brat child and my step daughter are so rude they will not trade rooms voluntarily with their elderly aunts.  Oh, so I guess I should  let them break a hip and keep raising a couple of cunts to full shitty ass adult hood.  Apparently, Todd doesn’t know how to parent either? SERIOUSLY?

This will probably send me to the WL section, but can you please watch the WWHL episode with Dorinda (or comment on it if you have already seen it). I have seen a big variation in opinions on this and I have been so curious to know what you think.

I totally agree with all 7 of your items.

My issue with the aunts (and Weenie) isn’t that they wanted to switch rooms, but the way they handled it. I think they overreacted. They could have told Kandi, Carmon or whoever in a less angry way. It’s a problem that has a simple solution. No need for yelling or a fight.

The assistant is adorable. He offered to rub Aunt Bertha’s feet. Yeah, that’s a bit much, but he’s a very good assistant.

Riley and Kayla definitely need some discipline. Kandi has no backbone when it comes to parenting.

I would have put all the guests in the best or closest rooms, whichever was easiest for them. Those bratass girls I would have sleeping in the worst rooms and probably helping clean the other rooms just to shut their smug giggly faces up. I can not believe that Kandi and Todd neither one had any final say about those little snots. They are in for some serious shit ahead if they can’t control to young kids.

It wasn’t about the rooms. Those old hags delight in spoiling Kandi’s happiness any chance they get. They don’t deserve phone calls on their birthdays. The phone calls would only start more complaints from those witches. Mathew seemed to be the only one who was pleasant on the trip.

If you didn’t like it I’ll take the hit because I certainly sold it as a haven of ratchet. Maybe I’m an ass for feeling this way but I think the aunt’s, her mother, and W are all users working her for a percentage, and that all of their interactions with her display that. I will say that Joyce was remarkably reasonable in her appraisal of traveling with her sisters. Still don’t like her, but there are chink’s in the gang’s armor for sure. The fact Bertha brings up money as part of her bitch about lack of closeness speaks to where her mind was. And if I recall correctly Bertha was the aunt who said over the phone something like “so what you gonna do with the other house” speaking of the first house Kandi bought for her mother. In writing that seems fairly innocent, when you hear it it’s pretty clear it was a play for gifting of the house to her. Really another judgement call I suppose, but those women keep bringing up those negative judgments from the things they say and how they say them. Maybe you’re right and they had a legitimate point, but the way they went about addressing it was just, I don’t know, sloppy at the least, ungrateful really, bitchy. I think Todd’s point that there aren’t any men’s opinions in the mix of those women’s opinions has a little bit of merit to it. Not that a man’s opinion is necessary there, but that a countervailing opinion would do them good. they’re all just affirming and reaffirming their opinions with no countervailing opinions to help provide any sort of balance. Don Juan and Carmon you’ve got those two so right! While I feel for all of the shit Carmon has taken from Momma Joyce the way the treated Todd’s assistant was bullshit. Momma Joyce goes on about how Todd and Carmon have had an illicit sexual relationship, I rather think, and this is opinion mind you, and not based on fact, but speculation, but the bigger threat to the Kandi and Todd’s marriage in terms of cheating is Todd & his assistant Matthew.

That was really long and I didn’t read it. But if you have elderly aunts, they get the BEST accommodations. And you make sure that happens.

If I took any of my aunts ANYWHERE. That would not be a question. The question would be how can I most pamper my aunts.

Wonky! I totally see what you’re saying about the aunts and Weenie and MJ. I believe though that the accommodations for the aunts should have been better thought out before hand. They totally could have been more polite in the way that they brought tit up. Kandi and Todd get the master bedroom, not just because they hosted the trip but because it has a large single bed. I assume that the aunts want separate beds. Seriously, why would you put two old women in a place that they have to walk over slippery ice to get to?

The aunts get on my nerves. Freaking Aunt Bertha packed a TASER! A TASER! Who the fuck is she gonna tase? Kandi? Todd? Carmon? That’s a bit much. And yeah, they control Kandi emotionally so they can guilt her into sending money. It’s manipulative and not okay. Maybe that’s one of the reasons Kandi cries so damn much. She takes a look at her family and realizes that she’s surrounded by money hungry vultures.

        Hey Minky,
The planning of the trip seems haphazard. I’m curious how much interaction the production crew had with Don Juan and Carmon to coordinate filming. Don Juan and Carmon were responsible for room assignments right? Matthew screwed up when he shows up at the airport with drinks for just the immediate family, that’s a no fly zone everywhere, but I suspect he came out of his pocket for those drinks and couldn’t afford for the entire entourage. He should have presented the drinks in the car. Here’s what I suspect about the room assignments, someone was trying to separate the aunts from Kandi, whether that was on Kandi’s direct request, which I doubt, or Todd’s, more likely, or Don, and Carmon took it upon themselves knowing the current nature of the relationship between them all and made the assignments with distance as the goal I do not know, but, you know, suspect. You’re right I suspect they control her emotionally which is why I was sort of glad for her that she was separating herself from their influence.

Hmmm? That’s an interesting theory about separating the aunts, and don’t forget Weenie, from Kandi. Either it was a filming ploy, or Don Juan and Carmon didn’t think it through, or it was deliberate on somebody’s (Kandi’s) part. Their reaction is what gets me. It was too, too dramatic and hostile. Weenie was acting weird. They looked like they were ready to beat somebody’s ass. That’s inappropriate and unnecessary, even if you’re family.

Maybe that’s why Kandi wasn’t adamant that the girls change rooms with the aunts? Maybe she liked the arrangement just fine? The way the aunts, MJ and Weenie spoke to her when they went into another room to sort the problem with the rooms out was just awful. They didn’t waste any time letting Kandi know that she hasn’t “been there” for them. And they definitely did bring up money. Well, dammit, she brought them along for the family trip, and she is a very busy woman, what with filming and running her businesses, and being a newlywed and so on.

There’s a saying among my people. I’m translating: The dog barks not to save the village, but to save himself. Back when they kept warning Kandi about Todd’s intentions, maybe that was just an acute case of projection? I could be wrong.

My Aunties were the dearest sweetest ladies. Even if they were not, they would get the best rooms on the ground floor. A broken hip can kill an elderly person. The resort also could have made sure the ladies had the safest accommodations. (law suits).
What happened to the days when the oldest members of the family got the best of everything and the kids had to put up and shut up?

Minky, let’s draw out that speculation a little more because I think it could explain their strong reaction to their room assignments. What if the aunts and W decided to go on the ski trip with the sole intention of cornering Kandi with the intent to not only rekindle a desire for their previous relationship with Kandi in Kanid, but to reestablish it with Kandi, and on discovering they were assigned quarters a pretty good distance away from her they realized that tight quarters cozy reaffirmation of their relationship wasn’t going to happen. How might they respond? I would suggest they might respond in a very similar, if not exactly the way the Aunts and W. did. All speculation of course, which they invite by taking part in these reality shows. No proof, no facts, just a number of years of watching how humans act, and react.

Oh Wonkey! Where have you been all of my life?! If you’re male and look anything like Cary Grant when he was young, fuck it lets get married!

I LOVE Sherlock Holmes-ing these shows. That’s more than half the fun! I guess i overanalyze stuff sometimes, but I’m a suspicious person who doesnt trust first impressions. The aunties and Weenie were fit to kill when they inspected their lodgings. Then, after dinner, they started talking all soft and nice-like to Kandi. You’re right, observing human behavior for years, especially in high pressure, emotionally charged situations where people feel they’ve got something to lose, can give a person some insight.

The aunties and Weenie are a bunch of MacGuffins using the Chewbacca defense to lead Kandi down a garden path littered with red herrings, so that aunt Bertha can shoot Chekov’s gun, I mean taser. Ha ha!

Okay, so you’re saying that you suspect that the aunties and Weenie expected to have alone-time with Kandi (no cameras), and that’s possibly the main reason why they agreed to go on the trip? And that the room arrangements foiled their plans, so they if they wanted to speak with Kandi at all, they then had no choice but to speak with Kandi on camera? Correct me if I’m wrong.

Ergo, the hostility and anger wasn’t so much about the poor condition of the room, but about access to Kandi? Yeah, much to think about. Weenie really pissed me off. I could almost forgive the old ladies. Isn’t Weenie supposed to be a good cousin? I’ve never trusted her. Her demeanor on the few occasions she’s been filmed with Kandi in the past (Sunday dinner/BBQ) was odd. I sensed a tension. Is she Bertha or Nora’s daughter? I’m guessing Bertha.

Since,Todd came into the picture Kandi’s put a locked on her wallet and doesn’t give as much that’s why they say you changed when you met Todd. That’s why Mama J & the Aunts weren’t on board with Todd I do believe! Still, the Aunts should’ve had better rooms this wasn’t a climate they’re used too..now had it been the Carribean different still respect them or leave them home

I thought the aunts rooms looks kinda like a motel 6 in relation to Kandi’s room. Wouldn’t this ski lodge have more than one suite? I can’t imagine them having only one and we know they could afford to get a few more for the family. As for the teens I agree as a teen I would have wanted to be as far away from the adults as possible and glad my parents didn’t make me room with them. While Kandi’s family is a bit greedy in their expectations from her I think because she has such a vast income she has always provided for them in some way. I can kinda understand my husbands family is very much like that they are very close and when one member has a need they all come together and help allways. They also share the wealth if anyone has a financial gain. His mom for instance loves the lottery and is very lucky. Any time she hits the numbers she shares with everyone. But the aunt do need to tone it down. Kandi is in a new relationship once they have been together for a while she be back for Sunday dinners if they show respect for her husband. The family can also dial back with the expectation of money cause it does make them look bad.

Doesn’t the lodge have golf carts or wheel barrels to cart the elderly aunts butts from their rooms to the dining room? I know they won’t be going on the sloops. They have a liquor supply and a stun gun that Aunt Bertha is waving around in a threatening manner. Let’s just hope she doesn’t get liquored up and taser someone. Ski trip? Indeed!

Kandi deserves the opportunity to be married without having a constant audience around to watch her and her husband’s every move. They need time alone together. What I don’t get is why the fuck does she have to justify everything to her mom and aunts? She’s a grown ass woman. She and Todd would probably be okay if they could just enjoy each other’s company unsupervised. You need space and privacy as a couple, to both love each other and argue without interruptions. In-laws ruin a lot of perfectly good marriages, IMO.

Part of me feels like the room situation was manipulated on part of production to stir up conflict, and that Kandi may not have checked a layout of the grounds before they arrived (I also think the aunties’ room was purposely dressed down, with pillows overturned before their entry to shock them). I’m guessing Kandi trusted whoever made the room arrangements for the trip that everything would be correct (not). I just can’t see anyone in their right minds placing their elderly aunties 27,000 miles up an icy drive with 50 flights of stairs to get to their cabin in sub zero weather. While I still think Auntie Bertha should have chilled out with her cigarette drama, she was at least justified in being pissed about her room location. I also believe Miss Riley should have kept her 12 year old pie hole shut, did as her mother said, & let the seniors move into wherever Kandi felt was appropriate for their age and physicality, period. These kids today…smh…

My suspicion is that the family wanted a piece of the Bravo paycheck action and Kandi managed to get them on the payroll with this show, but it backfired and now they think they’re all stars too. The way they all treat Kandi as some kind of ATM really makes me sad. But as the mom of a near teen myself there’s no way I’d let the kids be out all on their own, just no way. Perhaps the lodge was booked before they managed to get the aunts on the contract and this was the only way around it. Or more likely, knowing Bravo, it was all a scripted ploy to drum up some drama.

When I was young, you brought your elders a drink, fixed their plate, ran errands, and gave them your seat and whatever else they wanted or needed, and you better have done it with a good attitude and a smile on your face or there would be hell to pay. Kandi should have checked the room assignments herself, period. And if she allowed her aunts to be put in faraway rooms for a television show, that’s even worse. I don’t care how difficult they are or how they complained. The elderly get priority, period. I agree that Kandi and Todd should have taken the second best accommodations. Riley is overindulged and spoiled, and the step daughter is heading in the same direction, at least until Kandi and Todd divorce and she has to go back to her normal life.

Hmmm. Riley was whining quite a bit. I understand about respecting elders. I really do. I’ve respected mine all of my life. And the girls should have just done what they were told. Kandi could have put her foot down, but she didn’t.

I’m surprised that Don Juan and Carmon didn’t get the far away room in the first place. They’re not family. They work for Kandi. The way the aunts and Weenie reacted to the rooms, you’d think they had been asked to sleep in the snow.

Again, their reaction was disproportionate to the situation. Either it was contrived drama or someone was trying to send them a message.

Maybe something will happen to Riley that gives her a reality check. I feel bad for her because it’s bad parenting that made her who she is today.

They were trying to accommodate the smoking Aunt with a nice covered balcony. I suspect that the rooms were assigned without the whole property being seen. They probably had no idea about the walk involved. The Aunts had their own kitchen and living area, pretty nice set up. And I do not believe that the rooms were assigned without it being run by Kandi first. They have shown that Kandi just cannot do enough for them. The ride from the airport and they’re pouty because they ride in the bus? Only so many could fit in each. So it just made sense to split it up the way they did. The Aunts had already started with the bad attitude at that point. What a bunch of triffling, ungrateful, classless women acting like children.

Every last person on the trip was freeloading off of Kandi and complaining. They have no class and no gratitude. The only one doing any work or helping in any way was the lone white guy….which
Carmon and Don Juan of course put down while slurping up the free booze and feeling threatened by him when all Matthew was doing was being kind and responsible- two qualities they certainly don’t have.

Then where would you get the cast for your TV show?

I did not like the family at all. When I notice moments that they behave and speak nicely that is a problem.
    Moments.
    Kandi is a horrible Mother.
Most of those places are very strict about smoking and what rooms are assigned to smokers. The fine for smoking in a non smoking room can be huge. I’ve seen the normal $500. up to $1,500. charges to your credit card.
Smoking rooms are never as nice as other rooms.
Did not hear that was the reason though.

I said I wasn’t going to watch this mess but caught it over the holiday weekend. Carmen made those room arrangements since she kept asking everyone if everything was OK. I wasn’t convinced Kandi even knew who was where because she was only focused on her room. I wanted to slap some sense into Riley. I hate soaking I’ll of kids but I’ve grown to despise her

After seeing Carmon and Don Juan’s behavior on the trip, I think Kandi is very foolish to employ them! They seem lazy, entitled, unintelligent, jealous and threatened by Matthew’s work ethic since they clearly have none. They both seemed racist as well.dd

Mama Joyce and her nasty sisters do not deserve a place of honor, just a place that is closer to the main house & no stairs….. like the garage.

Is it me or is Todd doing all he can to end up on the Do Not Fly list? He is scary!! The girls had a lot of nerve complaining about giving the old ladies the room but that is a reflection of their poor, or nonexistent parenting.

After the last episode – it is official. I can’t stand Carmon & Don Juan (who names their kid that, because he sure isn’t!) Both of these idiots have revealed who they really are – lazy, angry & not smart. Kandi can’t be smart either or she would never put up with these two!

I think Todd’s family is okay, reasonable people with some gray matter & some manners. Soooo much classier than Kandi’s band of freeloaders!d
