Daily Tea for Tuesday

Daily Tea Dogs

I know, I know I did not do one for Monday. I was on Internet vacay because I didn’t want to be spoiled for Mad Men. As it turns out… there was not much to spoil.

Anyway these are ZoeMonster2’s dogs. Or maybe one dog and a coyote. Or half dog half coyote. HOW DOES SHE MAKE THEM POSE? I am jealous of her in every possible way. The dogs, the beach, the cute, kind husband, living at the beach. I am just going to drink and cry myself to sleep now.

And there are stories behind each dog, because.. like it is not perfect enough.

Here is the Shasta (on the right) link  Shasta is an Aussie cattle dog.

And here is the Shae Link .

And Shae has an Intsagram. It may make you want to kill yourself as you see dogs with the perfect island life, with the perfect island couple. /sigh.

I don’t often get jealous. But this cuts me to the bone.

I was disappointed with the mad men finale also. It felt like an afterthought- whereas Matthew Weiner said he always knew where Don would end up.

I have never had a dog I could trust off the leash. My 16 year old chihuahua x pug Chester the Chug is deaf, but when I chase him I can’t stop myself calling his name.

Banjo has gotten a lot better about learning who the boss is. I’d love to test that in an environment, but it’s probably not worth it.

I was so disappointed with the Mad Men finale. Wtf was that shit. It didn’t feel like an ending at all, just an off episode.

I loved the two dog stories. I was thinking last night, as I watched Blood Sweat snd Heels, that I would enjoy the beautiful borrowed Hamptons house more with the 2 little dogs alone. Leave the ladies in NYC, you know, no good will come from this gathering.

Eh, don’t be jealous. I lived on a small tropical island for many years. As with everything else, the novelty wears off.

True, there are nice things about it, but the thing is: your life and all of your problems live there with you too! The mundane, day-to-day requirements of living don’t stop either. It’s not like being on permanent vacation.

    The grass is always greener…

I hear you. I live 5 min from spectacular beaches, but I grew up with them and definitely take them for granted. But I do have fond memories of ditching class to have sex with my boyfriend in the ocean on hot days. One day we got caught by our English teacher who was sitting on the sand drinking from a flask. We agreed if we didn’t ‘tell’ he wouldn’t either.

I lived on Saint Simons Island for a couple years. I almost NEVER went to the beach. Because, like you said, you’re not on permanent vacation. Although I only had a one year job and managed to stay for another year. 🙂

what I loved most was the drive home from work across the bridge. Oh and I could walk to the water and shopping and um, bars. lol. But there was a fancy restaurant I could walk to that had those “Seasonal Menus” that changed ever season. Small number of choices that were all fabulous. I tried to eat them all before the menu changed. I was also very fond of the chicken fingers and white gravy at the Dairy Queen which was pretty much the only fast food on the island.

      Those were some good years.

Things are pretty good here today too though. Banjo is happy I turned the sun on for him today and we are both lolling around in the sunshine ready for the new day.

I’m a Low Country girl too, born and bred. It is beautiful; the food is amazing, and the beaches are eternally gorgeous. I’ve never lived anywhere else for long and don’t plan to. Please visit, be good guests, and enjoy yourselves. We love the spring and fall when tourists go home, the temperatures drop, and that awful humidity goes away. Shasta and BraeBrae are rock star dogs – It looks as if they’re loving life!

Great photo, awesome dogs, BEACH….okay jealous too.:) Ugh, spent the day in the ER. My left arm started hurting, Friday night. I thought I had just pulled something and it would go away, but it kept getting worse. Today, I couldn’t move my arm and pain and numbness were shooting down to my fingers and up to my jaw. Called the bf and he rushed over and took me to the ER. Six hours later, the good news, no heart attack or stroke. Bad news is it’s tendonitis. Can’t swim or lift weights for a week. He gave me a shot of cortison/cortisol? I can never remember which it is. He said it might take 24 hours to stop hurting, so may have to miss another day of work…I know, tragic! After they released me, BF and I went out and had fried chicken to celebrate me not having a stroke.

35 years ago, I spent 2 days in Charleston, then the rest of vacation on HH at Palmetto Dunes. This was early June, I almost died from humidity, but was the only one in group complaining. I wouldn’t even play golf. Golf and beach is all there was to do. Very little good shopping back then.

We drove through a hurricane, or nearly one, from Chatleston to Hilton Head. In the outskirts of Charleston, I had an extremr bathroom emergency while the rain was so heavy we could barely see the hood of our car. I told my husband he had to find me a bathroom NOW. He pulled into what appeared to be a gas station through the gloom. I sprinted to the side where I hoped was a unlocked washroom, praying I would not have to go inside to ask for the key. The door was unlocked and I immediately realized from the dirt and waterless toilet bowl that this was an abandoned gas station. I felt guilty, but had no choice, I took care of business anyway, grateful I had my purse that was stocked with kleenes.

I do not know how my husband kept the car on the unfamiliar road. He dtove slowly and would follow taillights if there were some, and feel the tire drop off the pavement edge for clues.

When we returned home to Chicago area, I was telling a coworker that I discovered owned 2 villas there, how unbearable I found the humidity and giant roaches. He said “nobody goes to Hilton Head in June.” That time choice was my brother’s fault. He picked the time and I found the nice accommodations owned by my friend’s dentist’s accountant.

It was beautiful and hub and I enjoyed beach walks after sunset, with a nice breeze. I always wished we had done a do-over years later.

Had a good day and a scary day all rolled into one. My husband, son and I were able to pick up the prosthetic legs that my friend had offered. My son was excited because one of them was a C-Leg which adapts to your gait and shortens rehab so you can walk without crutches in about 5 dats. YAY!

My husband ran to the store and left the sliding glass door slightly open. Our orange cat who I refer to as FOB (fucking orange bastard) managed to get out. Sage, the Rottie and Balou, the Great Dane pushed the door open enough for them both to get out. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and didn’t see it. I panic when I see them all outside. I open the door and Sage immediately comes back in but Balou is still a puppy and darts away.

I yell for my son’s girlfriend to help me because I can’t run to catch his long legged ass. He ran toward the road and would have totaled a car if someone had hit him. I grabbed a hotdog and the girlfriend was able to get him close to the front door. She caught him by his neck. He came in to get the hotdog. Tragedy averted. My hands have finally stopped shaking and my husband is finally allowed to go to sleep in our bed lol.

The other day, Banjo was not cooperating on his walk. If I don’t walk him often enough, he forgets the rules. Two houses down lives an old lady who was friends with my parents when they lived in this house in the 50s. There was a man outside next to a nice car. Well dressed, southern church going looking man. I asked if he was the ladies son, and he was a son in law. He seemed important, like a politician or something. It’s hard to explain. It was something about the way he introduced himself and how he spoke.

Anyway, I realized as I walked away, as I approached I kept calling Banjo, “dumbass.” And I was kind of embarrassed for swearing in front of civilized people.

UF, ginger cats are the closest to their wild relatives the Tigers so that’s why they are like that. Ours fancies himself a great hunter and takes every chance to stalk field mice, shrews, and birds to bring home. Our other black cat who is about 12 years old put a paw on dirt once, shook the dirt off, darted back inside and has never attempted to go outside ever again.

Yeah though mine is an indoor only cat, he’s very adept at finding bugs that get into the house to stalk, chase, & kill. One night he stood in front of the dishwasher for hours trying to get at something. I never knew what had his attention. He loves staring out the window daydreaming about all the squirrels, birds, & lizards that he sees. I recently found out from the vet that almost all orange cats are male.

My FatCat is orange almost red. He won’t go outside, doesn’t kill bugs. He is my lap cat. I did have a little ginger; he was timid around my other cats, but he would kill scorpians and spiders. He was a true hunter. I had him for 18 years. He never growled, nipped, or raised a paw at me. A sweet kitty.

I was so inspired reading everyone’s struggles and accomplishments with the walking and tomato challenges, I did something AMAZING yesterday:

I turned off my TV (a miracle in itself), and took a walk AROUND THE BLOCK!

This may not sound like a big deal, but since I’ve pretty much been riding the sofa for the last year and a half, this was a huge step forward for me. My apartment is halfway up a steep hill, so the walk is fairly strenuous.

I knew it would take awhile, so I set the goal of one hour to complete the walk. I started walking down the hill, to warm up. As I turned the corner, it was all up hill. I had to stop several times, but I kept pushing through.

3/4 of the way around, I began to get shaky. But I was almost there. By the time I made it back to my building, my legs were beginning to buckle. I had a little trouble getting up the 3 steps to the entrance of the building, but I made it!

It only took 40 minutes! I was thrilled!

Once safely inside, my body rebelled with a chain reaction of negative symptoms. This scared me a bit. But within the hour, I was OK.

Negative symptoms aside, the psychological benefits were worth it. Lately, I have been so cooped up, I was really getting stuck in my own head. This walk snapped me out of that funk.

I want to thank everyone for sharing their stories, and especially their feelings. TT, I especially want to thank YOU for putting forth these challenges. I get it now.

As for the tomato challenge, I am having my own little competition. I have the cherry tomato plants that I planted from seed. And then, there are the bird seed plants that the BIRDS started by tossing seed into an empty pot of soil, under the bird feeder.

So far, the birds are winning. Their plants are thriving. Mine are still tiny.

You’re right. Considering this time last year I was using a walker, and needed help traveling the 15-20 feet from the car to the entrance, I’ve come a long way.

The hill is the challenge. Today, I went shopping, and walked around for almost an hour. A flat surface makes all the difference.

That’s the way it is with the bird seed that the birds planted. It’s thriving, just by accident. My plants…just sitting there, taking their sweet time.

Maybe I should take a cue from the birds, and just leave my plants alone? Patience is not one of my strong points. Of course, it hasn’t even been a month yet. I still have a couple of months to go before I can expect any tomatoes.

The desert grows weeds well. My rosemary, desert sage, and oleanders thrive. I have a volunteer mesquite that I am ignoring hoping it will grow.

shasta and Brae were trained on that driftwood in the photo TT shared. I started off trying to teach Shasta – since cattledogs are supposed to be brilliant. I learned how to do it from the dog community on Instagram. I have never seen such nice people. Salt of the earth (dog lovers on IG)

Shasta wasn’t interested in posing so I worked with Brae. I started a few months ago. One day Brae was being obstinate– and so was I. I was refusing to move until Brae got up on something.

Shasta got impatient and hopped up on the tree and posed. I realized then that she had learned it all by watching. Hahaha;)

Brae now is a posing fool. She will pull on lead if she sees something like a fire hydrant, wall, tree…. Whatever…lol– they’re both crackheads;)

I wish there was a way to see photos of all the dogs on TT.

No excuse. Fivecats can walk around the block with her oxygen tank – great job fivecats! I can’t even make it out of the house.
