The most likeable, and dare I say, charming man on Southern Charm in my opinion is Shep Rose. Despite his uncharacteristically uncouth behavior on the Jekyll Island episode, Shep appears to be the only one on the show with any sense.
Have you ever wondered what his family thinks of his appearance on the show? His parents live on Hilton Head in Sea Pines. Sea Pines is “the heart of Hilton Head and anchors the southern most tip of this 14-mile long barrier island. Comprised of 5,200 private acres and 5-miles of Atlantic oceanfront shoreline, tidal creeks, saltwater marshes, woodlands and a 605-acre Forest Preserve, Sea Pines is the original and largest of the Hilton Head developments.
This secure, gated residential and resort community is home to 4 championship golf courses including a private country club, one of the nation’s premier tennis facilities, 15 miles of scenic bike paths, two marinas and numerous shops, restaurants and cafes. Sea Pines is also home to the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament, a favorite stop on the PGA TOUR.” [Source Sea Pines Realty] Click the link to buy me a beach house! 🙂
His mother’s name is Fran and his father goes by Rip. There are a lot of lawyers in the family. Shep seems to be charting his own course despite all the fancy education. So what do he is parts think about his current job?

Well, in another of my “I seem to know someone everywhere” moments, one of my commenters tipped me off to this story. I will let her identify herself if she would like.
Columnist David Lauderdale of IslandPacket,Com recently interviewed Fran and his article is fantastic! She explains what life is like with her son being on a TV show. With all sorts of information that Southern Charm fans will be interested in reading.
Here is a brief excerpt from the interview. You really must check out the whole thing. The quote below is from Shep’s mother, Fran.
“I’m not going to sit there and tell him what he needs to do with his life. And he’s had some interesting jobs, and he’s got a million friends, and he’s a happy guy.”
He’s got an MBA from Vanderbilt, and has invested in businesses and bought a rental condominium on Hilton Head at the bottom of the recession market. And besides, most people think he’s charming.
There was the Spanish teacher who sent home a terse note that still makes Fran laugh.
“Shepard thinks he can get by on charm alone,” the note read. “He doesn’t have that much.”

Lol I love the note from the Spanish Teacher! But seriously, am I the o ly one who thinks it was a HUGE MISTAKE to move in manchild Whitney to his beach house?
I like Shep, he’s an ass but he’s cute, the kinda guy you hang out with but never date. It’s not as if he needs Whitney’s money or vice versa. I think Whitney wants live with Shep so no one questions his sexuality. I don’t care how many women Whitney dates or takes home to mom… I don’t think he’s into girls..
Somehow, I don’t think Whitney living with another fella suddenly makes him appear straight. Whether Whitney sleeps with women or men is beside the point to me; he just seems a bit twisted and hiding something about his true nature.
So what’s the deal with the sunglasses? He gets paid to wear them? Or talk about them on twatter?
i bet whomever sends them hopes he will. like maybe they will get soem free press
The point is to figure it out yourself by clicking on the links she provides.
I did click the link, and it’s not clear on why he wears them. It says he gets sent a lot of free clothes and sunglasses, with hopes he’ll post pictures on Twitter.. No need to get smart assed with me.
The answer lies in your own comment.

his mom sounds adorable. shep is for sure his own person. when they went hunting last year, wasn’t that some old family camp/land what had been in the family forever? doesn’t he come from some serious old south money?
Fran says they aren’t supporting him, but he makes all of this “mailbox money”. Did he start from scratch after getting his MBA from Vandy or does he have trust fund or an inheritance?
I adore Shep. He’s cute, smart and funny as hell. His Instagram captions are hilarious. There were lots of Sheps when I was at UGA … But not with his fun sense of humor and down to earth attitude. He would have been at the top of my ‘go get it list.
It will be fun to see if he settles down work or relationship wise. Wish I had his ‘mailbox money’.
Shep reminds me of my own son. I’m hopeful that my “charming” kid will do as well as Shep. I feel like Fran and I could maybe have a cocktail one evening and commiserate about raising a “charmer.”
Interesting… My inlaws have a house in Sea Pines. We will be there for Memorial Day weekend…. I wonder if they hang out at the Salty Dog Cafe? I’ll look for them while eating my hush puppies… LOL!
Great article!
His Mom sounds delightful, she is happy that Shep is happy. No matter what his career may or may not be that is what matters.

Of course TT! Nothing but the best!
We will also make sure there is a sexy “house man” included.
Damn, I need one of those myself.
It’s so obvious that Shep is the most educated of the group…he is well read and unpretentious, unlike Whitney, who I can only assume pours over a Thesaurus nightly, in order to make himself seem more intelligent in conversations. And that Spanish teacher had no idea what she is talking about…Shep oozes southern charm.
I just love Shep. He is the kind of guy I would hang out with if I was young and single without a care in the world.
I thought I’d hate this show, but it’s ended up being one of my faves in large part b/c of Shep. Thank God someone on reality tv doesn’t take himself too seriously and is well-educated.
I work on the Island and have friends who work at The Packet so I wanted to say I had that bias 🙂 Sea Pines is a nice place to visit and is open to the public (if you pay your $5) to get in the gates. Lots of fancy pants people come for The Heritage in April but there are famous people year ’round. I love watching Southern Charm and would love to bump into Shep’s family one if these days. You’ll have a great time at your new place there 😉
I taught college for a few years in SC. Never worked at another college that partied like my SC friends. It was always at some HH resort or on a gambling boat. Always with a hospitality suite with a view of the water that was full of coolers of every alcoholic drink available. All expenses paid. I miss working for HBCUs! sigh.

Shep has tons of charm and not only is he cute but he’s extremely likable and intelligent. He’s great, his folks should be proud.
I ADORE Shep. Wish he had been at Vandy when I was — maybe I wouldn’t have married the douche I settled for.
