Exclusive: Animal Control Picked Up Kingsley

April 27, 2015 by tamaratattles 205 Comments

Kingsley has been a very bad boy. :(
Kingsley has been a very bad boy. 🙁

This is a Tamara Tattles Exclusive..Please give appropriate links, etc.

If you are a frequent reader of Tamara Tattles you know that a commenter here has close ties with Kim Richards neighbors. Kingsley was removed from the house by animal control on Saturday, the same day Kim went to Rehab

If he hasn’t already been put down he will be another victim of  Kim Richards.

Lisa Vanderpump has me blocked.  Presumably over my accurate reporting of this court case.  But all you California folks if you know a pit bull savior, ask them to go get Kingsley. Or as LVP. Ask someone…..

TT, thank you for this post.
Pit bulls and Parolees lady was in Sth. California until she was run out of the state. Most Pit Bull rescues are full and under funded. Unless the Hiltons step up with money I don’t have much faith in Kingsly being saved.
He won’t pass the good behavior tests to be adopted out.
It’s disgusting how this breed is treated.

Did you see the pictures on the lawsuit!!???? Just that alone would get that animal put down in my city.

If the lawsuit is true, that animal is a danger to humans. Sadly, Kingsley is exactly the example of why pits are treated the way they are. This is why they aren’t covered on insurance. This is why you can’t have them in apartment complexes. Don’t take on this breed if you can’t handle it.

Exactly right! I feel so bad for this dog. It was mistreated and mishandled from the beginning. Such a horrible waste. Fuck you to Hell Kim Richards for the vast path of destruction you are leaving in your wake. Even without her addiction issues she is still a horrible human being.

**I’m duplicating here but if the woman who has family on that street (Lisa M) wants to participate, below is a suggestion I made earlier. Also, I think that suggestion to Tweet LVP is an excellent idea — if people put their heads together, and quickly, something can hopefully help Kingsley**

Animal control will likely never find Kingsley a better home. They’re not in that line of business.

LISA M – you’re in the area & sound totally aware of the dog-scene. Do you know of any good breeder / trainer orgs in your area that you could ping or alert them about Kingsley? At least, once it’s confirmed that he was taken and who is holding him? Often times pet orgs will jump in for these pet-at-risk publicity situations.

Hopefully someone will step in snd save this dog. Heis a reflection of how unstable Kim is and was. The dog is really a victim here. Almost all of the Michael Vick dogs were rehabilitated and most are now in loving homes. He needs to be evaluated. A no kill shelter would be wonderful. The person I got my Pit from who did rescues but CA made it difficult for her and she left the state. Can someone contact Ceasar Milan? Also Tia Torres, she’s in New Orleans now.

Yeah, somebody save Kingsley. It’s not his fault one of the most irresponsible people in the universe picked him to be his human. He had no say in the matter, if he had he would have picked Cesar Millan and then he wouldn’t be in this pickle. It’s all Kim’s fault.

All kidding aside, I feel really bad for Kingsley. I am a serious animal lover and hope that he can be retrained and saved.

He needs a place like that. That dog is already set in his ways. I just have to look at him to get the chills. If there is such a place for dogs that cannot be rehabilitated, I hope they take him. He can be treated with the utmost kindness and expert training and there will never a safe place to re-home him. People, who can reason, change and think things through can be rehabilited. It only takes 2 sec. out of this dogs life-span for him to revert back to violent behavior. A lot of people blame the trainer kicking the dog, what was the guy supposed to do? Rub barbeque sauce all over himself? I just don’t know what kind of life he would have living in a pen waiting for his daily walk. Get your tomatoes ready……… Do I feel sorry for Kim? Yes I do. She genuinely loved Kingsley. Nothing that has happened to Kingsley up to this point is his fault, per se. But he is grown. I’m not sure that he can be properly domesticated. It sure would be nice if The Dog Whisperer took him. He may be the only guy around that can make a difference with that dog. It would be great if he became part of his dog pack. Are you listening, Cesar? However, we don’t know what the exact law is in that state with a dog like Kingsley. I am sure someone can find out. Still, I fear Kingsley’s prospects are dim.

        Gessiewtf,

Any dog can be rehabilitated and be safe. It’s happened many times, just look up Michael Vicks dogs and see how they turned out and they were fighting dogs.

I’m not a huge fan of Cesar Milan, Victoria Stillwell is a much better trainer, IMO, and there are places like Best Friends Animal Society that specialize in dogs like Kingsley.

I live in San Diego County, California. The policy of the county prosecutor’s here is the following: After the first time your dog bites someone, you must plead guilty for the dog’s behavior. The second time that your dog bites someone, the penalty is another guilty plea and the dog must be destroyed. I must confess that I do not know the policy of the county of Los Angeles, but I find it difficult to believe that it would be too much different from San Diego. Kingsley has bitten more than two people. He may be destroyed.

Los Angeles Policy: Dog bites are considered strict liability, you, the owner are responsible for the dog, no matter what the circumstances are. With that said, usually the first bite is “free.” which means the dog & owner can survive the bite, but if is was an all out vicious attack they will not give it back. A second bite will usually get the dog put down. Does anyone know what shelter he is at? I do not know where Kim lives, but if I can get a general area I can find out what Kingsley’s status is.

This makes me sick to my stomach. If Kim wants to be a drunk with no responsibilities, then why have 4 children and adopt a pet that requires care and supervision? This poor dog never had a chance with her, and with the right owner, he may have thrived and had a calm, happy life. This, the harm to the bite victims, and the pain to her family are ALL Kim’s fault. She is ruining lives left and right, and it is disgusting. If you can’t be responsible, don’t have children or pets, and live your selfish life as you please. She keeps crying that she is ashamed, but she should be. As Adrienne Maloof would say, “Shame on you!!”

I think theres an issue with this dog. He is dangerous and thats just how it is. Some people are as well. Kim of course is irresponsable so she just wants what she wants and failed to protect others. But this dog is a time bomb and gives me the chills. I think he could only make it with someone who is allways vilgent strict and keeps him locked up or m uzzeled when anyone is around. Not something I would ever want to sign up for. I also say what the hell was that trainer supposed to do? He protected himself. Was he supposed to sacrifice himself. Kim is a moron and a nasty one at that to keep a dog who acted like that when she has a family shes too drunk to take care of.

Pit bulls can be retrained. All the pits seized from Michael Vick, except for 2, were retrained and rehomed with family’s, one even became a therapy dog and visited hospitals, nursing home and schools.

My sister is very active with pit bull rescues. I’m going to send her Kingsleys info and see to she what she can do. She doesn’t train pits herself but she’s helped rehome dozens of dogs in need.

There are indeed thousands of animals that will be euthanized today alone. The difference is that simply being a pitbull breed in 99% of counties, will be up first for the needle. They are the unadoptable, unloved breed. The sweet ones are given time to find homes, pitbull type breeds are given zero time

Yes, because most normal people don’t want a dog with a genetic propensity to rip other living creatures (and sometimes people) limb from limb. There are plenty of great dogs out there that need homes and I feel sorry for the people who are not equipped to handle these dogs but get them foisted on them by shelters who want to save all dogs, and I also feel sorry for those around them, both humans and animals.

I understand what your saying. I am a firm believer in adopting pets from pounds and shelters. It’s also incredibly important for people to understand that owning animals are a commitment that should not be taken lightly. Plus anyone looking for a local charity to donate to should get information on low cost spay/neutering programs and feral cat spay/neutering programs.

I see your point and I understand where yall are coming from. It does make sense to save as many dogs you can that haven’t a history of biting.

From my perspective, Kingsley is being punished for Kim’s sins. If Kim had followed the trainers instructions, Kingsley may be a better behaved dog. Kingsley is going to die thanks to Kim. I hate that. It’s not fair. If Kingsley can be rehomed and given a fair chance, I say go for it. If he still is aggressive, euthanasia is the answer.

I don’t think your opinion is wrong, it may be the right thing to do, but I think Kingsley deserves a chance to prove himself to be a better dog than he was with Kim, a bad pet owner.

@brillke, I agree this probably was not a good choice for a pet for Kim BUT the amount of daily work this dog needs to be kept in control and calm is most likely much, much more that anyone other than a professional cares to spend on their pet. I have a dog with a couple of screws loose like Kingsley and he needs hours of both mental and physical exercise to be happy. For my dog to be truly calm and happy he needs to go on at least one leashed walk and a ten mile off leash bike ride everyday. Or hours of mental training. It is tiring and sometimes not fun to have a special needs dog. Plus I always have the fear that he will act out unprovoked. I wish the King well but maybe he is better off, RIP.

I also agree. I’ve seen it too many times where people with good intentions adopt the most unadoptable dog believing they are the dog’s savior but in the end the dog ends up viciously attacking them or someone else.

Thank You Teecee, my thoughts exactly. People should know how the overpopulation of pit bulls is affecting many other wonderful animals who don’t have the pit bull advocacy movement. No other dog needs tons of dog fighter money to promote them as pets and continue their overpopulation. This only helps dog fighting, a multi million $$ under ground business which is why they keep the overbreeding and subsequent euthanization cycle going. Follow the money! Evaree,
It’s this kind of misinformation that keeps getting repeated as fact and it does nobody any good.

Right now, the most euthanized breed is chihuahua. It was pits up until about a year ago, maybe a little longer.

No matter what side of the argument you take, a dog will most probably die and it was due to Kim’s irresponsibility. It pisses me off to no end that her ridiculous sense of entitlement and stubbornness are going to have such dire consequences for Kingsley, not her.

        Teecee,

The reason chihuahuas are now the most euthanized breed has to do with its popularity. So many people saw them as cute accessories but pugs, corgis and huskies are now more popular. People just dump the chihuahuas off at the pound or worse, kick them out the door to fend for themselves.

Nothing in Evarees post was misinformation. If you have actual numbers about Chis being put down at numbers much more than pit bulls, I would love to see them. And if they are being PTS to make room for dogs like Kingsley, that is very very sad.

Maybe Kingsley shows aggression when Kim’s not around to diffuse the situation / lock him in her room! I’ve seen it 2x in the past with different PitBulls & owners — when away on vacation, a trusted friend or family member was asked “just come over to feed & let the dog out” – in both instances the dog showed major aggression.

Obviously Kim, responsible dog parent that she was, was unable or unwilling to place him in a home or with a rescue group so surrender to Animal Control was the only option since she was going to be out of the home for an indefinite period of time. The fact that they dragged him out with the rigid stick leash speaks volumes. How sad.

Poor Kingsley, animals rely on their owners to instruct them and keep them safe. Kim has failed herself, her family and her pets miserably. No wonder this dog lashes out, when they live in an unstable state of anxiety and chaos, who can blame them? Especially powerful breeds who have very specific needs. You can’t be a passive, uninvolved, negligent owner of a pitbull! Your failures could result in someone being seriously hurt, and this poor dog is paying the price because he hasn’t been taught better. I was going to suggest Cesar Millan as well, but everyone else seems to have that covered. There is no doubt in my mind Kingsley can be rehabilitated and could have a happy life if he was placed with owners that knew how to take care of him. He is in my prayers, I hope he’s saved 🙁

The problem with Kingsley is lawyers. Any lawyer on earth would say, do not take this dog, if anything happens it will be on you. Even Cesar Milan has lawyers. Suppose he takes the dog, re-trains him and adopts him out and somebody gets hurt by this dog. If a shelter adopts him out, they could get sued. If the animal control people let him live, they could be sued. Kim IS being sued, and she is lucky that Kyle is her sister, and it wasn’t Portia’s face. If anybody is to blame in this situation it is Kathy Hilton. He was Conrad’s dog, and Conrad couldn’t handle him. So she gives him to Kim? Somebody that she knows is mentally unstable, delusional, and ill-suited to pet ownership? The woman set Kim up for a lot of pain. I can only imagine the pain that Kim is in right now. I feel sorry for her, I really do. I would be broken if my dog was taken from me and destroyed. I don’t know what else to say. But Kingsley terrifies me. My sister-in-law has a pitbull rescue who is the sweetest dog on earth. I love him. He has never bitten anybody or anything and gets bossed around by three daschunds. Kingsley has a different temperament. I don’t know, I am conflicted.

Kim’s problem with Kingsley is that she treated him like a baby and not like a dog. I love my little rescue to bits, but she knows she is a dog and that I am the alpha in the house. Yes, she sleeps in my bed, but she is a dog. Anyone that treats a dog like a baby, especially a big dog, is asking for trouble. Whether it be destruction in the house, messes on the floor or lawsuits from mauling victims. I feel badly for that dog and his blood, along with others (her niece and friend, will be on Kims’ hands.

In most rehabs you’re kept from contact with your family and friends for a certain amount of time — usually a few weeks — and then you earn it as a privilege. But, as we’ve discussed, she may have chosen a cushy non-rehab that has no such scruples or restrictions. My guess is, she knows it.

This is just a thought but……… when I watched the reunion it was obvious that Kingsley was still living with Kim. “The trainer has the dog” line didn’t fly as Andy kept asking over and over “where is Kingsley?” I wondered at the time if Animal control would take a ride over to the Richards home to see if the dog was there- after two incidents. Is it possible that Kim knew they were coming for the dog, so she finally decided to go to rehab?
I honestly hope that the two of them can be rehabilitated. Like LoriNYC said, I also would donate to help kingsley- Poor Dog.

Tia or Cesar might get involved if they can tape it for a TV show. Via Lobos does rescue dogs in other states when death is likely. Tia has to be called due to the volume of emails asking for help. She’s not very pleasant at first, I know I called her about a stray pit I found when she was still in California. I can’t believe I am taking up for Kim Richards but I am in this case. No, I cannot stand her and have said some pretty rough things about her which I believe she fully deserves.

However, the real responsibility rests with the Hilton family for allowing Kim to take the dog in the first place. He was probably already aggressive and a problem and that’s why they allowed Kim to have him. Big mistake, and they, of all people, should have known that.

They had the time, the money, and the connections to have properly adopted him out, and instead they allowed him to go off with a mentally unstable addict and complete “breaker-of-the-rules” such as Kim. Worst choice they could have possibly made.

Wonder if Kim knew this was going to happen when she left for treatment? Just seems very strange to me that someone who professes such love for their pet would leave for an extended period of time without first arranging for suitable care for it in their absence. Would find it hard to believe she’d agree to turn him over to Animal Control, knowing they’d have no choice but to put him down since he’s a known biter and thus labeled as vicious and not suitable for adoption. Here’s the deal IMO, let’s say Kim never gets Kingsley back or if she does, even though he has bitten he could still be handled in a safe manner. Maybe he will always be over territorial. It’s not cruel to keep a dog in a proper inside/outside kennel. When he is let out of the kennel, slip a muzzle on. If Kim would have put a muzzle on Kingsley when someone was at her house, we wouldn’t even be talking about this.

Yes you are. Sorry but he’s a time bomb. Just google pit bull attacks each day. There’s stories everyday of innocent children, the elderly and pets killed by the family pet, who never showed any signs of aggression. Last week a two month old mauled by the family’s pit bull who was raised lovingly for 8 years with two other children. Their genetics dictate who they are, not all, but why take the chance.

He did. He told Kim the dog must allways be m uzzeled when anyone came over or put in a secure enclosure. When he found out she did neither he was mortified. He said she was totally risking death ot great bodily injury of people. He said shes not qualified to have any pet. I read where one time he came to train the dog she was so drunk he had to put her to bed. Kathy should be ashamed for giving this dog to Kim.

Maybe the person seen leading Kingsley out of Kim’s house is a trainer the family contacted to try to rehab him? Hopefully he can be rehabbed, and Kim’s only contact with him will be a framed photograph of him enjoying his new home.

This has needed to be said ALL DAY. You people need to get a grip. WTF? This dog, does not have feelings. Get that straight. He is not human, so don’t try to make him out as if he is. My dog understands two languages, (English and Italian) yes, he is smart- and has innate intelligence for survival. He does NOT have human feelings. You are all projecting your guilt (or whatever) onto him. I have been raised on a ranch, with horses, dogs, cats, goats, cows, chickens, foxes, raccoons, rattle snakes, coyotes, deer, and the occasional mountain lion. Animals are precious, but they have their limitations in a human society. To say “it is not his fault” is not understanding the condition or state of a dog. He is bred (or overbred as the case may be) to have certain characteristics. Unless, and until the humans that own and train him fully understand the task before them, then he will fail, “or be failed”. If you can’t be an alpha full time, then don’t own a pitt. All dogs are fabulous. But you can’t erase the genetic characteristics they were given for survival. You as a human can try to calm or sequester the tendencies, but they are there for a reason. With the best of them, this dog cannot change; he can only be, in the best of circumstances, contained. Nice fantasy that you all have that he will be able to roam free on a large parcel, happy, fat and fed-with lots of rubs. But just for a minute, picture if your child was mauled to death by its own dog-it happened here in CA over 10 years ago. There are many other maulings. It is not the dogs “fault”. But it is likely to happen again and again without full time diligence. And which one of you can guarantee that? I can’t, and so to that I say, RIP Kingsley.

Banjo has more feelings that a 13 year old human. He huffs off and goes to his room (not his crate because I am in that room and he can’t bear the site of me) when he doesn’t get his way. And today he is uncharacteristically needy. He is excited as hell to go for a walk. Dogs also mourn when one in their pack dies.

Yes, they mourn the loss of a member of the pack. My 14 old dog is needy. We crate him at night, so he doesn’t get confused and pee on the carpet. (He never had those issues until last year) Always excited for food, roaming the vineyard or following the truck. We are watching for when he is no longer wanting to be a part of this life. (He won’t go with me when I venture far out on the property like he used to, and is on steroids for pain). We can love our animals. Care for them as they need to be cared for; but please do not humanize them. They look to us for support and survival, as we have conditioned them to do. Many of us view their response as unconditional love from them. Yet it is their biological need for acceptance from the alpha, and a place in the pack. I love animals. I just don’t attach our feelings or psychological make up to them.

You are Banjo’s alpha. From what you said about today’s events in the news, I bet he picked up on your energy, which sounds like human feelings that translate into a high sense of tension and fear (and compassion) for the Baltimore situation, and humanity in general. When I am annoyed, I have to couch my feelings in front of my dog, or she senses that she has done something wrong-looking for approval from me. My daughter walks in? Tail wags mercilessly!

Thank you, a voice of reason!! People, human beings, are incarcerated every day because they pose a danger to society and most of them will claim that they turned out the way they did because of their horrific childhood, which isn’t an excuse of course, but unfortunately a fact of life. If they pose too much of a threat to society, they are put on death row. Why should a dog, an animal that acts on instincts they’ve developed through generations of breeding, be given a “pass” because he had an irresponsible, ill-equipped, addict for an owner when human beings with irresponsible, ill-equipped, addicts for parents usually have to “face the music”?? Not every story in life has a happy ending…

I can only speak for myself but I don’t think every story has to have a happy ending. But after multiple years of watching addict-Kim on my boob-tube, it sure would be great if at least ONE individual who has been in contact with her doesn’t end up on the same shitty end of the stick, with a shitty, chaotic situation.

The humans in contact with Kim can choose to be away from her. A dog cannot. I’m advocating for at least one character in this stupid plotline to not get run over by Kim’s addiction and her poor dog management. That’s not giving someone “a pass”.

No one wants a child bit. I want a dog with these issues to be paired with someone who can assess his true potential. Period. Then let the facts determine the outcome.

You are so right. I come from a farming ranch back ground as well. I concur. People do get carried away with ascribing human traits to animals. Like the couple who loved their chimpanzee like a child and he attacked him and ripped off his penis his eyes and anything else he could. We have to be realistic with certain animals who are prone to be vicious.

I realize I am not going to change the minds of those dedicated to the belief that their dogs are human, so I am sorry I went off earlier.
On a more curious note, I have been pursuing the penal codes of California. (pathetic) I cannot figure out why Kim wasn’t charged criminally, either for a misdemeanor, or a felony (serious bodily harm). Even if the family said nothing the first or second (Kyle) time, doctors should have had to report the incidents for a rabies check, which should have led to a citation. I spoke to two friends today who have dogs that nipped/bit (no skin break) people, and they were cited. So, what is going on? Perhaps TT can connect with someone in So Cal, and get to the bottom of that. Money (civil case) hurts, but Jail (criminal) can hurt more.

They don’t track fatalities of people, pets or livestock. Wouldn’t it be pretty obvious if animal control picked up the dog? Meaning, was there a guy in a uniform and a truck parked out in front of the house that said animal control or something like it on the side? Or did someone just see a person leading the dog out with a stick? Knowing how thorough TT typically is I would imagine when she says animal control picked him up then that’s what happened.

I’m a bit surprised to see all of the save Kingsley posts here.
With all due respect, I have seen what pit bulls are capable of. It is truly terrifying. A friend has one chained outside of his home in Belize for protection. He took a large stick and held it high then, gave him the command to attack. I will never go near his home again.
I understand that not all pits are trained in this way. Having read numerous stories, including one (detroit suburb) where the family pit ripped apart their child into pieces, I will never understand why anyone would want to keep this dog alive. Or own one because, irregardless of how they are trained, this is their biological makeup and what they are capable of.

I love dogs but people please stop the nonsense with dogs who attack … BREED DOES NOT MATTER! It could be a teacup Yorkie for all I care; if a dog’s behavior cannot be control then he should not be around people.

Anyone that’s suffered an attack by a human (rape, robbery, riots, etc.) is not going to believe that their attacker just needs a good loving home as an option; try telling that to the merchants in Baltimore or someone that’s been raped or robbed.

When a person shows you who they are the first time believe it; dogs are no different. Kingsley has attacked two people that we know of one of which was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Unfortunately, some dogs like people are beyond rehabilitation & should be dealt with accordingly. The notion that “Pits” get a bad rap is like saying “inner city” people get a bad rap when they riot/commit crimes. Not all “inner city” people riot/commit crimes & not all “Pits” attack but you don’t get a pass because you’re a “Pit” or “inner city” rioter that attack.

Pitbull statistics have been very steady for a long time. They are 6% of the dog population and account for 64% of all dog bites. And dogs are bred to have certain characteristics. That is just a fact. You should watch a documentary from England about how they have bred bad characteristics and unhealthy features into dogs for their looks. These poor bullldogs that can’t breed and can’t swim were bred that way for “beauty'” If you look at how dogs have evolved to have certain characteristics and physical attributes from just 100 yrs. ago., it is amazing. I will try to find the name of the documentary.

I seriously question the sanity and humanity of those who value animals above people. There are those who want a dog that has caused damage to at least two people “saved”, but would be pleased if an ill human (there but for the grace of God, Kim) would die. Kingsley should have been put down immediately after attacking the elderly lady. Kyle’s daughter would have been spared. Kim deserves our empathy and support. Why? Because we are not better than Kim by any means, we only have different circumstances. Who knows what we would have been like “growing up Richards”? We have no idea what she has been through. None of us have walked a mile in Kim’s shoes.

I seriously doubt that anyone on this site places the value of a dog over a human, and I certainly don’t think anyone wants to see Kim die. This site is full of a lot of very nice and compassionate people. People have been wanting that dog removed from Kim’s home for a long time and turned over to someone who can properly train and care for him. If he cannot be salvaged, then at least someone responsible made an effort. God knows Kim hasn’t. She made it very clear during her Kingsley story line that she wasn’t going to follow the trainer’s directions. It’s been very sad and upsetting to watch what Kim is doing to herself and her family, so maybe some of us are hoping for at least one positive outcome.

Kingsley looks just like the pitbull who used to live three houses up the street from me. He was always getting loose and running around the neighborhood. I called animal control a couple of times, but they wouldn’t come and pick him up unless he was “contained”. They expected me to do their job for them. Several other people called them too, but nothing was ever done about him. The whole neighborhood was relieved when his owners lost their house and had to move.
