I am a week behind on Catfish and almost didn’t recap this one, but then if I watched and it was really good I would have been mad I didn’t recap so we can talk about it. So here goes. Oh I can already tell it is going to be good. They said in the promos before the season that Catfish gets catfished this season so this must be it.
Nev and Max begin by watching a Catfish puppet show online. Whitney writes in to say that she lives in Brooklyn and works at Wendy’s. She met Bre on an LBGT website. Bre lives in L.A. Distance is a problem. They have not video chatted. They are not Facebook friends. She has few photos. They talk on the phone and text. Whitney is average looking and Bre is too attractive to be real. Whitney pretty much supports her family. Bre can’t afford to fly out either. Whitney makes a point to say the place they came to is not her place, but a friend’s place. Why? It’s not a particularly nice apartment. How bad can hers be?
Bre is an unemployed stripper. She has a tattoo on her leg that says luscious. It’s probably spelled wrong.
The boys find a Facebook page that is using the photos Bre claims are of her. The Facebook page belongs to someone named Kash. Kash and Bre both live in L.A. The boys call Kash and she says that Bre has used her photos before on a site where she won’t to meet some people. She did meet someone she really like. If Kash and Bre are friends, how would she not know Whitney’s name? She tells the boys that Bre’s Facebook page is Luscious B. something. The guys get on Whitney’s Facebook and log in as her. There they discover that Whitney and Luscious have been talking and video chatting for four years. Whitney mentioned the tattoo so she has to know that Luscious is Bre. They are using the show for a plane ticket.
The guys go to confront Whitney. But first they are going to play dumb a bit longer. Whitney lies her ass off until she realizes there is no way to lie her way out of it. She just wanted a trip to California to meet Bre. The boys are at a loss for words and leave to think about it. I am sure they are going to end up taking her out to meet her. But they should not. They need to check out to see if she works at Wendy’s, and if she really lives in that apartment, and if she really has a brother and a mother she is supporting. I’m still not buying this.
So they take Whitney to meet Bre and they are ecstatic. On the follow-up Skype, Whitney says Bre is coming to NYC this month and she is going out there next month. Interesting that they can suddenly afford to fly back and forth. A RT ticket is probably about $400 bucks. You are going to tell me a stripper could not come up with that? Or the chick who works at Wendy’s could not save $400 in four years? They try to say that Bre got a part-time job in a hair salon. But come on. These two probably already met.
