Daily Tea Post For Monday: Today’s Varietal is El Paso

El Paso

Edit: I asked the person who sent the photo if she had rights to the photo and if I was allowed to post it. As it turns out. She didn’t take it and it belongs to a professional photographer. SIGH.  Don’t do that shit.

The weather in the ATL sucks and Sunday nights are all super late for me but if I can get up at the butt crack on Monday and the weather is decent, I will be out of the Tamara Tattles office most of the day. Apologies in advance for slow moderations of first time commenters and slow news stories. Bethenny will be on Steve Harvey today and I am literally three housewives behind from promoting  folks on that show.

I’ll get to it.

I’d also like to let everyone know I appreciate you. I’ve gotten a lot of really sweet emails about how much you love the site and it makes you not feel so alone. I assure you that feeling is reciprocated. I love y’all to the moon and back. Thanks.  Except for TeeCee. She’s just a cunt.

So to avoid a brownnosefest. I’ll throw out topic. What is your favorite movie?

I’d like to say something really artsy fartsy like, you know that one about Halston with the fabulous director. But I’m sort of slutty so I am going to go with 9 1/2 Weeks.  Was is a cinematic masterpiece? No. But I was young and running hot so I loved it.

🙂

Favorite Movie??? Really, Tamara? As in only one? I can’t just choose one… I have several. I will have to sleep on this one and get back to you tomorrow. This task is nearly impossible for me!

Ahhhh, 9 1/2 weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger…that WAS a hot movie. The refrigerator scene is burned into my brain. Mickey Rourke was so hot until he fucked up his face with all that lousy plastic surgery. Poor guy. Kim Basinger is STILL hot and probably always will be. I kind of hate her for that.

I have so many favorite movies, I can’t really decide, but I will throw out there Braveheart. I love Mel Gibson, I am a die hard Mel Gibson fan, and yes, I know he is a totally asshole. He’s still a fantastic actor, producer, screenwriter and director, in spite of his rage issues. I can separate the genius from the asshole, fortunately. He was also one of the best looking guys I’ve ever seen when he was younger. I saw a picture of Mel in a book one time, and I literally gasped out loud, THAT’s how good looking he was. I’d never had that happen before, and he doesn’t even know I’m alive 🙁

I’m not a Mel Gibson fan (even pre-dating Sugar Tits) but I finally watched Apocalypto & it’s an amazing film. It’s entirely in a Mayan dialect with english subtitles & only native american/Mayan actors. Mel Gibson doesn’t act in it but he wrote, produced & directed it. I avoided watching Apocalypto for a long time because it sounded boring but my uncle made me watch & I’m so glad he did. It’s long but very exciting & emotional. Definitely my favorite Mel Gibson film.

    Have a great Monday TT.
One movie, I also have to that time.
I’ve a favorite for every decade, for my state of mind, if I was ticked off at the world or in love.
Maybe I will decide based on the movies I rewatch.
My oldest favorite might be Birdman of Alcatraz. Love me some Burt Lancaster.

Okay… If I can only choose one, it has to be “Thelma and Louise”. It had such a huge impact on me. The first time I saw it, I was on a first date. The ending had me so completely unraveled, that I just asked him if we could skip dinner and that he take me home. And then I called in sick the next day. I just could not believe the choice they made in the end. I loved them and felt like they were my friends. By the way, this guy never called me back for a second date (shocker).
But I see that UF chose five, so if I can pick my four others they would be (in no particular order)
    -Say Anything
    -Boogie Nights
    -Silence of the Lambs
    -True Romance

    This was tough.
Sounds like your busy tomorrow, Tamara. Have a good day!
And I have been to El Paso (yeehaw!!). I don’t remember it well, but I did spend a weekend there when I was in college.

OMG, I went on a first date with someone to that movie and I was only 17. He was a couple of years older and I was set up with him by a friend at work. I was so stupid that I did not realize what the movie was about nor did I look into it beforehand. Needless to say I wanted to crawl under the seat. I agree that it is a hot movie but that really ruined it for me. Afterwards I had the guy take me home and he did not get so much as a kiss on the cheek. I wasn’t that attracted to him to begin with so I probably never should have gone out with him to begin with.

I’m not a movie enthusiast. I hit my head really hard when I was 20 (TBI) and ever since then, my attention span went from nonexistent to lolololol. Surprisingly, books hold my attention. My favorite book that’s been made into a movie (that I’ve actually read and seen) is Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

I have many, but one of the first that comes to mind is … (Okay, I know I may hear some grief because it’s “southern”, but that really has nothing to do with it. And I’m prepared for a tongue lashing from TeeCee for my choice.) To Kill A Mockingbird. As an impressionable young girl, I thought Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch was everything a perfect man should be. Of course, my father was nothing like him and I probably have daddy issues, but that’s another blog – ha!

I’ve been waiting for someone to mention the Big Lebowski. Definitely my all-time favorite film. I’m even a certified Dudeist priest. The dude abides.

A friend came up with a theory that I love: the Big Lebowski is a Southern California dude thrown into the middle of a film noire. It has all the film noire tropes: Mr Lebowski, Maude, Jacky Treehorn, etc.

My son asks me this question all the time and I tell him it’s way too hard to name just one but I used to go with “Gone with the Wind” which seemed to be everyone’s favorite until “Titanic” came along which is also one of my faves. My other all time favorites would be:
    A Beautiful Mind
    The Help
    Best in Show
    Drop Dead Gorgeous
    About a Boy

This one may seem odd, but here goes…Schlinder’s List. I have a chronic health condition with pain that keeps me homebound 80% of the time for many years. When I am feeling particularly sorry for myself, I watch the movie and remember it could always be a lot worse.
I wasn’t going to comment, but I’ve been reading this blog and comments for 1 week. Even though I am new and have TRIED to post apparent “stupid” things that don’t get put up (admittedly I am not a clever wordsmith,) I have had such an enjoyable week. I feel entertained and agree wholeheartly with some others and don’t feel so isolated.

Hi Cotton Ball. It’s a great movie! I recently read an interview of a woman who discovered just a few years ago that her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the SS officer in the movie played by Fiennes. Talk about a shock!

      Cottonball,
Schindler’s List was a phenomenal film. The film was black and white and I’ll always remember that little girl walking down the street in the red coat.
The final scene with Schundler’s survivors and descendants visiting his grave in Jeruslaem and placing stones there had me sobbing.

CottonBall, there are several of us, myself included with chronic pain issues who come here to enjoy TamaraTattles blog. So we understand. It’s one of the first things I do after waking up in the morning. I found the blog not too long after I developed CRPS and was pretty much home bound. TT always has interesting posts for me to read and comment on that make me laugh and be able to forget the pain for a while. We try to tell her occasionally how much we appreciate her for it but she’ll accuse us of a brownnosefest like she did above lol. Glad you are enjoying yourself and you’ll get the hang of commenting. Lots of us still say stupid things sometimes. Ask Tamara. She’ll tell you lol.

I do have plenty of honorable mentions that I love rewatching and yes before anyone says anything I do like movies with a southern flavor. So sue me lol. My other favorites besides FORREST GUMP and WIZARD OF OZ are:
Fried Green Tomatoes Shawshank Redemption The Green Mile
Silence Of The Lambs The Help Avatar E.T.
To Kill A Mockingbird One Flew Over A Cuckoo’s Nest Big Fish

Let the Right One In (2008) -and the remake- Let Me In (2010)
      Sitr of Echos
      Shutter
      What Lies Beneath
      Dragonfly
      Insidious 1 and 2
      Sinister (some gore)

I am not a big Horror Film fan, but I have to say that there are two that come to mind that scared the living crap out of me.
“House of a Thousand Corpses” by Rob Zombie. Holy crap- it was done so well. What a crazy movie!
The other is “The Thing” by Joun Carpenter.
Both really scary. “The Thing” is more horror/ suspense, while “House of a Thousand Corpses” is more in your face horror.
Both definitely worth checking out if you are into that kind of thing.

I find that I am way more emotional since becoming ‘mom’ nearly 6 years ago. And I generally avoid movies that make me cry now, if I suspect it will… watching is emotionally draining I am way too compassionate.

Away We Go was another one that made me cry unexpectedly, and my husband and I enjoyed.
