Pip is going to lose her mind if I don’t get a Weekend Edition up. 🙂 So here it is. This photo is from one of my favorite Brandiloons. She’s the one that owes me a flat in Paris. She lives in Seattle and this photo was taken last night from her house.
Sorry for the delay in getting this up. I was up all night chatting with a charming gentleman online. He’s truly a terrible influence and I am paying for my debauchery mightily today. I am trying to hold out until 8 to go to bed.
Updated with new post of same sunset from Portland… so beautiful!

In other news, Orphan Black is back on BBC America tonight. I probably won’t be recapping or even watching it live as I am hoping to be in bed by then. But I thought you might want to know.
EDITED: Portland weighs in with the same moon photo on the same night. So cool.
Tamara, you need to spill your own tea and tell us about your online charmer!
Ha! Just a friend.

I just planted some tomatoes and peony bushes. I feel so accomplished, haha.
So excited for orphan black!
Me too!
Me three!
Today is #RecordStoreDay. Did anybody go & support their local music store (which is a dying breed)? What did you buy? If you say Taylor Swift then I will request that TT ban you.
My niece and her husband were 4th and 5th in line. The husband likes Aha and Young something. I go to my nephews tomorrow to finally exchange xmas gifts and am kind of excited…I’m giving him my original LP of Rappers Delight.
Rappers Delight is such a fantastic & iconic song. It always reminds me of my roller skating days in junior high. #SugarHillGang
@UF
Which Bowie album did you buy? My favorite is “Hunky Dory”… Bowie is brilliant as well. I could talk for hours about 70’s artists.
No I did not because they expected people to be at the door at 7AM–otherwise, it would have been a must-stop! But they always get my business so I didn’t feel too bad. I like to touch the item before buying it, the same with books/magazines.
I’m not a stranger to the record store either. I visit all year round when they are no crowds. Today was ridiculously crowded, but I shopped anyway and bought several vintage records by : David Bowie, Grace Jones, Bryan Ferry, Gary Numan, Stan Getz (Jazz), & Madonna.
Love it! I still have all my Bowie albums, they will NEVER be given away. And I did an 5 hour road trip recently with Avalon playing over and over. Sigh. Puts me in the right mood.
Which Madonna album did you buy UF? I wish I had saved my Madonna vinyl collection. When my grandmother died I got all of her classic country albums (Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Johnny Cash, etc) and her favorite rock n roll albums (Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc). She loved music! In the fifth grade I won a record player selling spice sets for the PTA fundraiser. I wore that thing out! The first album I bought with my own money was Motley Crue’s Shout At The Devil. I had to hide it because of the huge pentagram on the cover. I didn’t know what a pentagram was or what it represented but based on my mom’s reaction when I brought the album home I knew it must be “bad” which in turn made me feel like a rebel! I had to hide my Kiss Alive albums too. My musical tastes were varied though (still are); I also had the Bee Gees Greatest Hits, Donna Summer’s “On The Radio”, Blondie, and the Grease and Saturday Night Fever soundtracks!
I’ve always wanted to visit Seattle because of the “grunge music” that came out of that area, namely Nirvana and Pearl Jam!
Tulsa I have a large music collection, around 2000 cd’s & over 300 vinyl & thousands of mp3’s from the old Napster days that are still not in my iTunes library. My musical tastes are broad & wide.
The Madonna vinyl that I bought yesterday is the 12” maxi single for Vogue. It has 4 versions of the song. I used to own it, but it disappeared with some questionable late night guests. Overall I have nearly 80 Madonna records on vinyl from full albums to singles & remixes.
@tulsa
Loved your story! My husband had “Blizzard of Oz” in highschool and his Dad saw the album cover and was like “REALLY”?! Our parents must have freaked at the evolution of rock-n-roll.
UF: My best friend is a hard core Madonna fan, has been since the “Borderline” days, and she would be so envious of your collection! I was working at a bookstore when the “Sex” book came out and I was able to get her one before my manager, Keith, (stage name Ashley Michaels) took the rest to The Silver Star where he hosted the drag shows, and sold them at double the price #dragqueenhustle
Pip: I had The Blizzard of Ozz album and Wasp’s “Metal Up Your Ass”
UF,
You have GREAT taste in music. Did you ever listen to Romeo Void? I Love love love Debora Iyall. She never got the notoriety she deserved.
DJ I only know “never say never”. I haven’t thought of that song in ages. Thanks for putting it back in my steam of consciousness. Gonna go download it now for my iTunes library.
Your talk about the record store reminds me of game I like to play with people you are getting to know. It really is just a question, but I think very telling about a person and always bring laughter. The question is what was the first album you ever bought with your own money? Not the first one you owned but the first one you ever bought with money you saved up. Mine was in the 6th grade and was Rocks by Aerosmith. Anyone want to play?
This is a GREAT game! I was in third grade and saved my allowance to buy Elton John’s Greatest Hits.
I didn’t discover Aerosmith until Junior High and Rocks is a GREAT album! My husband and I still listen to it occasionally.
My best friend was 2yrs older than me and turned me on to Aerosmith with Toys in th Attic and Elton John’s Yellow brick road! I remember the first time I heard both albums to this day so vividly.
That is a great game.
I don’t remember if I paid or if my parents gave me the money for it but the first record that I wanted & bought was by:
Lou Rawls “You’ll Never Find”.
I spent my summers in San Francisco visiting family, and my favorite Uncle used to blast this in his pimped out 1975 Cutlas Supreme. He influenced my musical taste in my early years.
Monkees Greatest Hits — second or third grade. I was terribly torn between Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz even at that age.
Fun fact (and true story)
I made out with Steven Tyler in ’92 (or maybe it was ’93? Don’t remember for sure)
@Pura
Davy Jones was dreamy! I was very jealous of Marcia!
Now I hate you Pop!
Okay, I bow to the master. I cannot beat making out with Steven Tyler. Nope. Other than doing the nasty in the back seat of a famous person’s Cadillac in 1986 (while car was on loan to me from a family member of the owner of the Cadillac), I’ve got nothing that even comes close.
Sorry PIP…Spell checker strikes again
UF I have many happy memories of the records store. My Mom would takes us with her and let us buy 45’s. I would buy all types. Still remember what CCR’s label looked like. The first song I learned all the words to was The Age of Aquarius by Fifth Demention and I made up a dance and would perform it standing on the living room coffey table LOL!
Yes well, it was a hundred years ago. But I still like to tease my husband about it.
I still have my teeny-weeny Levi cut-offs that he signed. But there were no camera phones back then!
Trust me, the dude wouldn’t even look twice at me anymore. I am not twenty and tiny. Those were some fun times though!
The first album I ever bought was Abbey Road, and I think it cost $5 which was a lot of money in 1969. I was 13 years old and I bought it with my babysitting money.
My mom loved The Beatles. She would play their greatest hits album on the 8 track in the car driving to my grandparents all the times. I knew all the words to all the songs. #memories
@Nancy
Abbey Road is an awesome album. One of my favorite Beatles albums.
“You never give me your money”… I fricking LOVE that song! And the way it ties into “Golden Slumbers”… Ahhh. It’s genius. Really.
The first CD I ever bought with my own money was for a friend’s bday party in the 7th grade. I got her 98 Degrees & Rising.
My mom had fabulous music around the house, from Beatles, Bowie, Patti Smith, classical, blues, big band, etc. I guess I was determined to make a stand so my first purchase was a Hall & Oates single. Drove the adults crazy.
Great question! I’m not answering because it will it will tell how old I am. I feel like I am ~mysterious~ and no one knows my age. Maybe it’s obvious. Ha ha!
😉
I’m late to this party, but I love this game, so I’ll chime in too. Mine?
Hotel California by The Eagles.
This would have been in early 1977, so I was in first grade. I remember loving the song “New Kid in Town” so that’s probably why I chose it. I had been given several K-Tel compilation albums prior to that, but this was definitely the first “real” album that I bought with my own money.
I got it home and played the hell out of the whole album – and “Wasted Time” is still one of my favorite sings today. I also remember the photo in the middle – the fold out – of the band standing in a hotel lobby surrounded by various strange characters. I could stare at that picture for hours!
My first record was a smurf album I saw on TV. I saved up my allowance and then called up to order it. The operator took my order even though I was obviously a small kid. Then I waited until the postman came. I was so nervous he would come when my parents were home and they would get mad at me. (Don’t know why I would not have gotten in trouble.) when he arrived, I answered the door and gave him cash (it was back when you could pay COD) mostly in change. Lots of pennies. I still remember “bug-a-boo” and “your a pink toothbrush, I’m a blue toothbrush” songs.
Bought with my own money, 8th grade, In Utero.
The first album that I bought with my very own money was The White Album. I was 9. It was 1972.
Pip the Bowie record is called ChangesOneBowie. It is a compilation album of songs from 1969-1976. I loved the cover; it’s a black & white head shot of Bowie.
Many times I have bought an album just for the cover. I keep my vinyl records stored with art facing front so everyone can see them, and rotate my “art” collection.
Are you a fan of Ziggy Stardust? That’s my favorite Bowie album. Love it!
Yes I am Sandra.
I have all his cd’s up to around 2003.
I remember saving up my allowance to buy a couple of 45s every month. I got a record player a mono, for Christmas when I was in 4th grade and my grandma gave me a transistor radio. I didn’t buy albums until I was old enough to baby sit. The first album I ever bought was Carol King’s Tapestry.
Went to Church today for the first time in 3 years. Got dragooned into reading the Epistle and prayers for the people.
I love Carol King!
I would have hyperventilated through that.
Ah, Paris. my husband and I went almost 10 years ago with friends. We’re all trying to plan a 10-year Paris reunion for next spring. My dream would be to live on the Left Bank and write six months of the year. That would require me actually writing though. And money. I haven’t worked out all the details yet.
Speaking of Paris, I am taking my hubby across the pond as a surprise for our 9th year anniversary (since we met). I would like to do London, Paris and then Italy (Milan, Lake Como, Tuscany). Know where I would likely want to stay in Italy. Any ideas for where to stay in Paris and London??
Both are expensive, regardless. That said, anywhere in Kensington, near the tube for location- walks before others rise in neighborhoods, palace gardens, etc. ( obnoxious sounding I know, but when you reach a certain age-you have to go 4 star for air conditioning, depending on weather; maybe others know of less expensive options with air, but I don’t )
Paris, same thing, pick a district (arrondissement) and a place close to metro. Marias, Latin Quater, or near Luxenbourg gardens ( the 6th) have been good choices money wise for me. Consider an apartment (air bnb), depending on length of stay. Know most of us are living vicariously through your mention of these cities. I am home bound at least until December, with a slight chance of travel then. Go girl!
I was just in Paris last summer and actually booked a hotel room using Chase rewards points. Was kind of surprise how well it worked out. Room was Paris small (not much room to roam), but we really only slept there. We were in the Montparnasse neighborhood. Wherever you stay, location to the metro is key.
Two activity recommendations: Paris Walks. No reservations, just show up at the meeting site (usually a metro stop), pay the small fee and join the walk. We did the Montmartre tour and loved it. Would have done more if we had time. Also took a cooking class at Le Cuisine Paris. Really fun. We learned to make macarons. It’s fun now to make them out home. Always impresses everyone when I show up with macarons. Reminds me of our trip every time.
Can’t go wrong with the Four Seasons. There are two in London, I believe. Do the bigger, original one.
I truly like to travel, but also have some big homebody programming that no one in my family shares. Growing up we traveled all over, and now I really try to vacation (ecsb if staycation is tempting me). I always feel like I’m home away from home at the Four Seasons-best of both worlds!
My top 5 fantasy also? Went there for 10th anniversary as well. The trilogy of books (forget author!) on Josephine Bonaparte led us to a metro stop at the end, 9 miles out of Paris, to her home Mal Maison. She lived there with Napolean before he got all big. She was his teacher and right hand. Worth every second. I could feel her there. Romantic for me, right up there with the left bank window apartment.- with a writing desk of course.
I loved that Trilogy. I think the author was Sandra Gulland. What a fascinating woman she was. The Bonapartes were the inlaws from hell.
I love this picture! Washington is one of 5 states I’ve never been to, but would love to see Seattle. I have read a lot about it. A family member lives there, she sent me a picture of her best view from her bathroom window. It has the Cascade Mountains in the distance.
I woke up at 6 PM today. At this rate, maybe in 3 months I will have my days and nights unreversed. I have been backwards for at least 6 months. It is like being a tired vampire. The good part is, that with lots of melatonin, I at least get a few hours sleep sometime every 24 or so.
My jonquils and daffodils are all open at once. We almost hit 80° yesterday. Temps still can’t be trusted not to nose dive here. I want to pick some, but probably won’t.
This picture doesn’t do Washington justice. Not even close. I thought “Bleh, boring.” If I could post pics, I’d show you a gorgeous, sky-on-fire sunset. (Or I could post pics of rain.)
Why do you feel it necessary to be a cunt to a friend of mine who took a beautiful picture. SERIOUSLY? YOU are criticizing SUNSETS NOW?
Which reminds me I need to update with the Portland picture.

I lived in Washington for a few years. It was beautiful country. My timing was a bit off; we moved the day Mt. St. Helen’s erupted. But, after things settled down, we went through the “red zone”, and even that was awesome, in it’s own way.
I love both pictures. I plan to forward TT a Colorado sunset one of these days. I don’t get why you have to be a turd and insult the photo
So here’s a good one…
Today I re-read “The tea about Patricia Ashuldt” thread. I some how CONVINCED myself, that Tamara, myself, and any others that participated in that thread were going to have to be dragged into a courtroom over the CAD. I was positive that because I became involved in the comments, that I would end up in Internet jail.
I emailed Tamara who LAUGHED at my absurd paranoia and reassured me that we are all safe and we are indeed, not going to Internet jail. My husband than suggested that I may be perhaps spending a little too much time on the interwebs.
He threatened to confiscate my iPhone and change our internet password.
When the Ebola crisis hit (and I was still nursing at that time) he had to put parental controls on all of our televisions so I could not watch the news stations. Because I AM FUCKING NUTS!
So, essentially Tamara talked me off the ledge today. I had a panic attack over this insane and completely irrational fear.
Thank you, Tamara. I love you!
Internet jail sounds like fun, bed, food and friends, that means you Pip. All of us could plan a jail break together. Sign me up.
Internet jail would be awesome with you guys if we could order take-out and watch Bravo!
But seriously, my fear was very real today. I am so naive. Ugh.
A slumber party sounds like fun! Seems like a lifetime ago since I had a slumber party!
Me too!!!!
calipatti: sign me up too!!!!
@Pipp- my husband gets jealous of the time I spend here. I lie a lot and say I’m working! Love your post, and I am goin on a 18 hour holiday. Self imposed. Have fun without me watching, or weighing in!
You can’t leave us, KK.
Tootsies … If you are there Im showing up. 🙂
xoxo 🙂
Pip, my crazy mind veered down a different path than yours. I was fantasizing that Patti would want me testify & her lawyers would pay my airfare to Atlanta. Visiting TT for free sounds a lot more fun than internet jail, but it’s just as ridiculous.
Haha Lady Cocotte, I’ve been trying to come up with the perfect post to get Patricia’s attention so I can go for free myself. Hey you do such a great job with recapping RuPaul’s Drag Race. Do you think you can write me a comment so I can go with y’all? Btw visiting TT and Atlanta especially for this juicy mess doesn’t sound ridiculous. It sounds awesome. I’d be glad to tote TT’s boas lol.
@LadyC and Hannah-
You guys are NUTS! I would want nothing to do with being dragged into a courtroom. I was called for Jury Duty (which ended only two weeks ago). I was on call for two weeks and I was in an utter panic over it. Oh the places my mind will go… Fortunately for me, my group was never called in and so I never had to go in.
I have ALWAYS wanted to be on Jury duty. In GA the jury pool is supposedly pulled from voter registrations. I vote for any and everything I can. And yet the only time I have ever been called was in some city I no longer lived in ages ago.
Now that I blog I would probably be excluded right off the bat. And if I was not, I’d never be able to keep up with all the blogging.

I bet they are okay if they are in a little enclave or in the safety of a nest that is secure.
Last year I worried like crazy about our robins, especially in storms, but they are tough little nuggets.
I hope they are okay!!
Daddy was sitting on them earlier. Now I can see the little fluff appears to be breathing.

I have always wanted to go to Seattle. Any tips for a fun, budget trip?
Boeing plant is fascinating. And, if you’re a Twin Peaks fan, the drive up to where they shot the exterior scenes is worth it.
Depends on what you’re in to. Like are you outdoorsy? SO much to do on a budget if you like the outdoors/sports/exercise. What season are you thinking? What sort of hotel budget? Prices aren’t too bad.
A couple cool museums are the EMP (Experience Music Project)–look it up, the building alone is worth checking out. Also, right there is the Science Fiction Museum. I am in no ways a sci-fi fan, but I loooooved it.
Also, something some people do is fly into Vancouver and drive to Seattle (or vice versa)–really pretty drive under two hours, and you get to check out both cities. And airfare to Vancouver is sometimes cheaper.
Oh and Nordstrom flagship store is in Seattle… hee hee I like shopping.
That’s a great idea. I’d love to fly into Vancouver, then drive to Seattle….I love to hike, but I’m not an adrenaline junkie or anything or extreme sports. Thanks for sharing great tips everyone!
Troll under the bridge still there?
Oh and the San Juan Islands are so worth it!
Glad you are back. Was wondering where you were. ( wirelessly speaking of course). Have been thinking a lot about people I don’t know personally. Weird concept for me. This place is foreign, given the fact that I grew up in a small town, large extendeded family, sorority in college, friends on barstools after that. Virtual people I am interested in has never happened until now.
The Seattle here is different, as it is on the water. From my experience, Vancover, or any of the islands would be the only option for long term living. City is nice to visit, but a glorious house on the water is the only way I could do it long term- provided I had acess to frequent travel. Lovely, but too dark, too long.
I’m going to spend the rest of this weekend outside, going for a walk, digging in the dirt, counting my blessings, and putting into perspective why this site means so much to me. I go here after a brief prayer, during coffee, and depending on my mood, sometimes all day. Better than crack or booze I suppose. Love my life, and love it here too!
My first look at Seattle was in the 80s movie “Stakeout” and they showed mostly downtown scenes. The up and down streets, like San Francisco, Pike’s Market, and the wispy gray rainy atmosphere made me want to go there. My mother’s brother lived in Mukulteo for several years. Then there was another Ashley Judd movie, I think it was called “Double Jeopardy” that I think was filmed, in part, around there. Just beautiful country. It is definitely on my bucket list. I don’t mind rainy weather at all either. Just a good excuse to drink more coffee.
It crossed my mind about the Pat mess as well. I could see Tamara wasn’t worried, and she has experience with this sort of thing. Even if this time the person has the money to fritter away continuing legal nonsense.
We all get paranoid and susceptible to suggestion. That is what the bad guys count on, intimidation, to get their way.
More people should take the ebola virus seriously. We see where it got some.
The Pacific Northwest is magical.
it really is. and i spent 7 and 1/2 hours at the baseball field and got fried. oh i love the first very awesome sunny day when that happens.
Sooooo true. A sunny day in the Northwest is more beautiful than anywhere in the world.
I’m having my “joy of spring” euphoria right now. Every year I can’t believe how everything comes back to life! Crazy! Every single year! And right now the lilacs are blooming–my favorite flowers!
My relative, biological daughter, lives in Seattle and feels it is magic as well. She is a midwesterner but thinks it is where she was always meant to be. She thinks they have more sun than get credit for and any lack is it is off set by moderate climate, as compared to hot and humid, then cold and snow, where she spent majority of life..
Ssshhhhhhh…… LOL (Your daughter is incorrect; it rains every day, every hour, every minute of every year!)
=)
I live in Seattle with a second home on Maui, best of both worlds! As for Orphan Black, simply one of the best shows on the tellee!! Not enough people know about, so glad you mentioned it on here. Anyone that has not seen it should binge watch the first seasons, it is sooooooo good!
Aloha from Seattle!
Aloha Rosie! That’s why my husband and I spend so much time in Costa Rica, our eventual full-time retirement location. Best of both worlds! We love Maui, and if it were not for our love of CR, we’d invest in something in Maui.
puravidacostarica2, my husband and I (really I more than he) have been doing a little research about retiring to Belize. You mentioned retiring to Costa Rica. Wondering why you chose Costa Rica? Did you ever consider Belize? Neither of us speak Spanish and much of the language spoken in Belize is English. Plus with $2,000 a month guaranteed income, you can purchase property. Not familiar with Costa Rica.
Maui is incredible. My favorite vacation spot.
Hawaii is the most magical place on earth. I’ve been trying to get a job on Maui to return, but the pay is sooo low – -I’d have to pitch a tent on the bitch. You are so blessed to be able to live in both places. Magical!
Ohhhh the 8-tracks. Get the tape just right, then wedge a match box under it to keep it from dragging.
My first album I purchased was Lynryd skynryd.
Skynyrd was kind of a staple where I grew up. Lots of kegs and parties in cornfields. Ever see “Dazed and Confused”? That was pretty much us. However, I graduated HS in ’83, so we were a bit younger than that group. But things don’t really change in my hometown.
One of my FAVORITE cities!! I spent my childhood summers in Seattle with my paternal grandmother. I love the smell of Pikes Place, I love the vision of Pudget Sound…Wow!! Brings back such pleasant memories….Thanks TT
@ Angel and Pip..it’s amazing the power that music has. I loved The Beatles like there was no tomorrow and I can hear an obscure cut off an old album and just cry like a baby.
And I’ll just be an old geezer and pull out a cliche and say they don’t make music like that any more.
I’m glad to hear younger people love it too.
Totally! Music soothes the savage beast in all of us.
Neil Young and Joni Mitchell are probably my favorite all time artists. I have every Joni album (well, I hate to admit this, but in college I sold all my vinyl and switched to CD’s… Still regretting that. And since then, I have all of my CD’s in storage containers and have switched to digital).
But anyway, I have everything by Joni and Neil. I am a hippie at heart.
I went to college in Santa Cruz. Would go to a local club, the Catalyst, on a fake ID. Neil Young would sometimes show up and play. This was the 70’s. I also would go to San Francisco to see the Greatful Dead. Loved those New Years eve concerts at Winterland. Usually New Riders of the Purple Sage would open. I am still a hippy at heart too.
@fivecats
I can not even IMAGINE walking into a bar and seeing Neil sitting there strumming his guitar, playing his harmonica. I would DIE!
I have seen him in concert nine times. More than any other artist. He truly is my musical inspiration.
I’ve seen the Grateful Dead a few times in the late 80’s. That is a GOOD time. The Grateful Dead is pretty much playing all day long in the summer months at our house. My husband use to follow them around on their tours. He is an uber fan.
My son, when he was in middleschool, saw a picture of me taken at a Dead concert. “Mom, what happened to you? You looked so cool back in the olden days”
We let him go to an Ozzie Osborne/ Rob Zombie concert when he was in 9th grade. He was appalled when he found out his Dad and I listened to Ozzie in the 70’s.
Gosh I feel old, but I’ll play Cinnamon girl and feel 19 again.
@fivecats, Catalyst is still there, going strong with the same vibe. I’ve a son who goes there.
The first album I bought was Introducing Dion and the Belmonts. Still have it. Yes, I am old…….
I love the fact that you still have that album.
I am not as into music as normal people. I’m not sure why that is. That said, in Libya we had a stereo that only my brother used. I was occasionally left home alone I was very young, like 7 or 8 … and I would play my brother’s albums. I am not sure how I even know how to do that. My favorite song of his collection was 25 or 6 to 4 . Also I remember being in a car with my parents and my brother going to Leptus Magna, a long car ride for a kid and singing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I was admonished for singing a song inappropriate for kids (it’s about LSD) and adamantly telling them they were all idiots for not understanding the song. 🙂

Hahaha! “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” AND “25 or 6 to 4” were BOTH about acid! True! Not sure what that says about you, Tamara?
And I want to add that Chicago and Steely Dan were on in my house all the time when I was a kid. I’m am still an über fan of both bands.
I was apparently very into LSD in my elementary school years.

I was in 2nd grade when Super Freak came out. I learned all the words and was so excited to come home and share my new found musical knowledge with my parents. It didn’t go over very well; apparently my mom and dad were not Rick James fans…
OMG that’s awesome!
Shades of Little Miss Sunshine
I grew up to Motown and Van Morrison. Love them both still. Always.
I do not remember my first album group name, so long ago, they were similar to but before the Supremes. One of my earliest 45’s was Chubby Checker’s The Twist. I had to put the plastic thingy in the hole to play on the
victrola. Yes, seriously! I pooled my money with my brother and we bought a portable stereo, things sounded much better. It was about 18″ by 8″ two separate speakers clipped on to the turntable box like luggage. It was turquoise and silverish. I am positive I chose the color from mail order, still favorite colors.
Many of my early 45’s were knock off groups, they cost much less. I was okay with that. Such a step up from the 50 year old 75 rpm choices that came with the inherited victrola. I was not musically deprived. We made our own. My mother played piano and organ, I played piano and clarinet, my brother coronet and trombone. We played at home and in an orchestra.
KC and the Sunshine Band was my first. I bought it with my allowance while on vacation in Nags Head. But I also fondly remember sneaking and listening to my moms Elvis album that was actually blue. I’m guessing the Blue Hawaiian album because of the color but I can’t remember for sure. I just know me and my brother were forbidden to touch it and would sneak and dance all around the living room.
I loved Disco Duck when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. It still makes me smile. Life was so easy; all I had to worry about was getting home for supper on time.
Brandi is not writing her blogs or running her twitter account. A crazy woman that has been stalking her for years has finally reached her narcissistic goal to control every word. She is blocking and suspending Brandis core fan base and adding her personal friends to Brandis follows. The accounts (facebook and twitter) are being used to “like” the trolls posts, stroke the people that play the trolls game and uplift the trolls status. She was introduced to the troll via a “friend” B met on a divorce blog a few years back, the troll targeted the friend to get to B. The situation is just now starting to bubble to the surface with Brandis account using it’s verified status to suspend multiple users that have been long time fans but resisted the troll. This won’t end well.
Uh what?
JuJu Bee is talking about Katherine. It’s her first post and she obviously not read much here.
Thanks TT. You know that stroke you thought I had had a while back. Well I thought maybe I had had it. I was a bit confused.
Well. That took a hard left.
TT is saw theta you mention teaching in several of your blog comments. Do you still teach?
I almost always shake the milk before I pour it. I know I don’t need to, but I do it anyway. Maybe if I switched to whole milk I wouldn’t feel stupid shaking it.
@sequoia, that is funny shit,
stick with 2% milk.
If you drink enough milk to need “skim” or “2%” You are drinking too much milk.

I know this is an open forum, but can we just NOT with the jokes? Especially religious ones?
Thanks.
It’s for talking not cutting and pasting stupid jokes.

Okay- “Going Clear” the Scientology documentary that was on HBO… Who watched this? I feel safe discussing this here, I can’t imagine Tamara has any readers who are Scientologists (I kinda doubt they watch Bravo?? I could be wrong though).
I am a bit hesitant to discuss my knowledge of this “organization”, because they have spies EVERYWHERE, but Tamara weeds out the comments so hopefully we will not get bombarded.
So here goes… I think it’s a big, fat, farce. I think LRH spoke volumes when he said “if you want to get rich, start a religion”.
I think the way they bullied and manipulated the IRS to give them church tax exemption was bullshit.
I think they now own John Travolta and are using his auditing sessions to keep him there. (Auditing sessions are like “confession” in the Catholic Church), except they use an “e-meter”
to detect lies, nervous reactions, etcetera. They were taping auditing sessions to basically blackmail people, including Travolta.
I think the fact that there is an actual “prison camp” in the “church” where people have had to live for years upon years, speaks for itself.
I think Tom Cruise drank the kool-aid and is full fledged nutso.
Is anyone else familiar with the documentary, books or other stuff on Scientology? Please tell me what you think, because I am FASCINATED with this “church” (I put church in quotations, because although they call themselves that, I think they are anything but).
I won’t pay for HBO…BUT, I really really want to see this! I’m hoping it makes it to Netflix. Quick.
I’ve been a little obsessed since the Father/Son team got caught Tailing David’s Dad. Crazy shit! I’ve seen other documentaries about Scientology also, however this seems to be the one to watch!
The Government is working hard to take the take exemption away from them. Good luck with that! I understand your fascination completely. It’s all such a trip. Which makes it all the more interesting!
I watched it. I didn’t find it earth shattering. I’m fine with people believing they are aliens or whatever. I do think the abuse issues should be investigated. As for the IRS, it’s hard to make an official ruling on what is or what is not religion.
And Tom Cruise is a bigger nutball than we thought. ALLEDGEDLY!

The abuse issues were the most insane shit I have ever heard as far as a “church” goes. And I do agree, if you want to worship Xenu the galactic overlord, that is your right and although I think it’s kind of crazy, it’s the abuse, the blackmail, and how they acquired their tax exemption that is truly the mind-blower.
ALLEDGEDLY!! (Jesus! I’m going to have to start putting ALLEDGEDLY in all my comments!)
But these are my opinions, based on a documentary that is widely known now. I admire Tony Ortega, Alex Gibney, Paul Haggis, and the rest of them. Brave dudes, taking on this machine.
Maybe Kim Richards is an alien. Kingsley could be her auditor.
I’m in. Please keep this discussion going. I watched the movie and read everything I could find online and think that the whole thing is fascinating. It seems like they suck you in with the therapy and nurturing and esteem-building until they can keep you under control by blackmail. And then of course is the science fiction nonsense and aliens living in your body. It is nuts!.
@Barbara-
I am fascinated by it, too. There are a lot of great docs and books out there for people who are curious. YouTube has some really good stuff.
I am not going to post any names of them, though. Don’t want to break the blogging rules.
I really can not get enough of this subject!
That was an interesting program. It should make it to Amazon Prime. They show a lot of the HBO stuff.
Makes you wonder what really happened to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. I think Mimi Rogers got away in time.
I think Nicole wasnt with the program with SEA for the kids and they knew it and started saying Nicole was cheating. After she left Tom, she never saw the kids anymore. I think Katie left for the same reason. Neither was on board with Xenu which you dont find out about until the higher levels when you are deep into it. Lord only knows what else they went thru. Tom Cruise is NUTS.
I don’t know if anyone watches South Park, but they did a GREAT satire on Scientology. The episode was named ‘Trapped in a Closet’ and it was hysterical. I love satire! Anyway, I can’t tell the whole episode, but eventually the characters of Tom Cruise and John Travolta wind up in a closet and the South Park characters keep trying to get them to ‘come out of the closet’, an obvious DIG. Needless to say, the church of Scientology didn’t take this too well, and tried to create a lot of backlash, but the South Park creators didn’t give a fuck…they poke fun at everyone, and remained unrepentant. I love them for that! I had studied the Scientology religion before watching the episode, and their satire was actually pretty factual, IMO. Highly recommend if you want a good laugh and can take the South Park heat, because they are BOLD!
That South Park episode was a riot. I know Isaac Hayes “chef” quit over it. He was a scientologist. He had no problem poking fun at the Mormans.
@fivecats
Mimi Rodgers is a Scientologist who was born into the church. She is the one who originally introduced Tom Cruise in.
Scary.
@gingersnap
My husband use to watch South Park all the time. I have seen that episode a few times. It’s hilarious!
There is a good article that came out Friday called “Secrets of the Scientologists: Why people do horrible things for belief”. I cant link or name the site so you can google it…it helped me better understand how smart good people can get caught up in something like this.
Thank you for suggesting we can Google it. I can’t imagine that anyone here was previously aware of Google and how to use it until you dropped by.

I thought the documentary was fascinating too. I agree with everything you said. I believe it is a cult. Any church that harrases ex members to shut them up is scary. Also, asking your family to stop speaking to you because leaving the church makes you a supressive person is insane. It was sad that the wives of the whistleblowers left them and they lost their whole family.
Leah Remini left the church. Luckily for her her family left right behind her.
So did Lisa Marie Presley. She did a little research (which they are STRONGLY advised against) and blew the hell out of there.
She has twittered some very cryptic messages regarding her leaving the church.
When Leah left it was right about the time she was on DWTS. She was scared to talk about it. They intimidate people who leave and have a lot of power in Hollywood as well. Often former members are blackballed in the industry. I am completely for freedom of religion but these folks are scary.
I read Going Clear a few years ago. Haven’t seen the docu though.
I read the book as well. I thought the documentary was better though. It broke it down more simply.
I’m looking forward to Going Clear but haven’t watched it yet. I have a friend that used to be a Scientologist (I didn’t know her at the time). She only has good things to say about them, strangely enough (she’s in the minority, I’m sure). I don’t talk to her about it because she’s obviously wrong.
In one of the Millionaire Matchmaker episodes, the millionaire laughed at his date when she said she was a Scientologist. You could tell the date was over, as far as he was concerned. The Scientologist got really offended at the millionaire’s reaction & kept screaming about how rude it was that he didn’t respect her religion. Being in LA, I’m surprised that Patti doesn’t screen out Scientologists. Instead, she took the loony’s side & yelled at the millionaire. It was surreal. >
Do you know why she decided to leave since she only had good things to say about it? This is a cult but I find religions overall fascinating.
As an aside, my accountant is Hindu so she believes in God and many other Gods which are manifestations of the one God aka the supreme being. So she was joking about the number of Gods they have and told me a cute joke. Here goes…. A muslim and a Hindu are in a boat and it is sinking and the muslim asks Allah to save him. Allah does. The Hindu starts praying and asks Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, Ganesha (the elephant god) and Surya (the sun god) etc to save him and before he has time to finish his prayers, he drowns. Each God heard his prayer but each figured the other God would save him. The guy gets to heaven and asks the Supreme God why didnt he save him and God throws his hands in the air and says make up your mind!
Josie, I’m Southern Baptist and I’ve got a good one too…A flood has started and a preacher is on his porch. Two guys in a truck drive up and offer the preacher a ride. The preacher says “I’m a preacher and my Bible tells me the Lord will provide.” and sends them on their way. The flood waters rise and the preacher is now on the 2nd floor of his house when 2 guys in a boat come by and offer him a ride. Again the preacher says, “I’m a preacher and my Bible tells me the Lord will provide.” and sends the boat away. Again the flood waters rise and now the preacher is standing on his roof holding on to the chimney when a helicopter flies by and drops down a ladder and tells him to climb up. Again the preacher says the same thing. Shortly the preacher drowns. When he gets to Heaven he looks at God and says “Lord, I’ve preached your gospel, been a good man, repented of my sins and your Bible told me you would provide for me,” God looks at him and says “I provided you a truck, a boat and a helicopter. What else did you want? Lol
Hahaha cute joke Hannah! Thanks for the laugh…
Bummer about the weather. It’s a dreary day in NYC today. The forecast is basically 12 hours of rain, rain and more rain. Ugh. I hope you guys get better weather and you can enjoy fishing ☺
Well it rained again today. Blah! Our best friends have taken our pontoon and cleaned it up, power washed inside and out, replaced all the seats with new ones, and added a potty. It’s an older model but I bet it looks great. The only thing left to do is the blue striping on the outside and it will be pretty much completely redone. They called us to come over to see it about the time the bottom fell out and it’s been raining since then. Boo hiss. With all the things wrong with my son and me physically, boating, fishing and swimming are the things that we both still can do that we enjoy. Having a pontoon, my son with his crutches and I with my cane can just walk right through the door onto the deck without much trouble. I love to go crappy fishing and now is the perfect time to be fishing. Hopefully by next weekend we will be on the lake, fishing rod in hand and soaking up some sunshine. My father taught me to fish when I was a little girl. It was one of my best memories of my time with him. He was always serious about it and so am I. I always manage to out fish all the men fishing with me. Makes them crazy lol. Like my tee shirt says “Men Fish, Women Catch.”
