First let’s talk about their choices in outfits. Bethenny and Ramona both went with a little black dress. I think they both looked appropriate for the situation. Carole looks like a college sophomore doing the walk of shame in the leather pants and t-shirt she wore out to the bar the night before. Luann? Well she does seem “Eastery” to say the least. I’m not fond of women of a certain age in shirts that tie at the waist no matter how in shape they are. I am not saying they all need to call each other and try to coordinate like a girl band. I’m just saying that there should be some standard of dress for a television appearance where it seems they are all dressing for the same event.
We can’t even start without Bethenny’s book being plugged first. You know, her relationship book about how she sucks at relationships. I think I can suck at relationships without any help from Bethenny. She can get back to me when she doesn’t suck at relationships. Also, Bethenny acted like she had never been on TV before. She seemed nervous and either was staring at a camera or at someone on the set. She was at the very least distracted by something.
They began by showing a scene of Bethenny and Luann talking about Ramona and her divorce and how she is doing. It seems Bethenny bonds with Ramona this season over the whole public divorce thing. In other words it’s just like RHOA with Nene and Phaedra only on RHONY both divorces were real. Ramona says there is nothing worse than being betrayed by your spouse. She wishes that on no one. You will see another side of her this season as she realizes that she was not very kind to the Countess when she was going through the same situation a few seasons ago. Luann says she was awful to her but this season she has gone from “Romeana” back to Ramona. Luannn says that divorce kind of suits Ramona. I have to say that the Ramona eyes are gone. Perhaps there was a stress and/or medication of some sort that was causing that. Luann says Ramona is humbled and changed and now she knows what it is like to be in her shoes.
Hoda starts to interview Bethenny. Maybe Bethenny is just tired from flying back from Miami but she looks like she just swallowed shit. I get the feeling she does not want to be there. She knows Hoda and yet she is giving her a forced half-smile and zombified nod. Hoda goes through all of Bethenny’s companies and asks the obvious question, with all the money she is making why is she doing this? The obvious answer is it’s easy money and Bethenny likes money.
Bethenny said she left for three seasons and never thought she would come back. She left because she did not enjoy it, so she was glad when she left. She said she missed “the connection” (um who was she connected with?) and how free it is. She says that her talk show was stifling and blah, blah, blah. What she realized is that it was easy money and she would be stupid not to take the huge contract that Andy Cohen offered her.
Bethenny says they are all older and wiser now. She says the show has a lot of humor but there is also a lot of depth. They are all going through transitions. She and Ramona are in the middle of divorces, Luann just did that. Carole and the new girl are both widows. Carole says the season is Shakespearean. There are highs and lows with a thread of humor running through. Carole says that this is the most authentic season she has been on. Luann says it feels like the beginning of the Housewives. Everyone talks about how they are all bonding through these genuine experiences. They all sing the praises of Dorinda, the new chick.
We end with another plug for the book.
ZERO mention of Sonja, Heather or Kristen. That’s interesting. Looks like five against three. As a commenter pointed out, since Bethenny is friends with Kyle she probably had no interest in sidling up with Brandi’s BFF, Kristen. Will there be no Ramona and Sonja this season? I hated those two together anyway. It was weird. I can’t imagine why Carole would abandon Heather for Team Bethenny, oh wait yes I can, screen time. Bethenny and Heather do not geehaw at all this season.
So that’s what you missed and my take on this mornings interview. Thoughts?
