And it’s creepy. I know some of y’all have been creeped out by the other two, but this is the first one that creeps me out. It’s very unsettling to me.
You can see the Elastic Heart video here.
And Chandelier here.
In other Dance Moms news, the New York assault case against Kelly Hyland was finally thrown out by the judge. Kelly’s civil case against Abby for eleventy zillion dollars or whatever is still on.
creepy for sure.
I could not understand more than half of Sia’s words being sung. If Maddie’s movements are to demonstrate, it is about a girl abusing herself. I could not finish, too distrubing and not melodious. Chandelier, I liked.
Kudos to Abbey Lee, she certainly taught Maddy to dance from her heart.
Is the whole thing her messing with her face? I can’t get thru it, it’s gross.
Yes. I almost put that in the post. It doesn’t get any better as time goes on.

I wonder if this will damage Maddie in some way as she grows older. She is just a child and obviously her mother will sign on to just about anything to further her career. It seems as if no one is looking out for Maddie’s best best interests. She’s a lovely dancer with a beautiful face but as a child..does she fully understand what the roles she is taking on depict and what they mean? A lot of kids who are manipulated by overly ambitious parents turn out messed up and I hope that Maddie isn’t going to be one of them. Yes, this is very creepy and I believe that Maddie is being sold out for fame. I keep hoping that Maddie will join some reputable dance company and stop being exploited by performing in videos that are far too old for her and that she probably doesn’t even understand.. This is so sad.
Well I’m over the whole Sia not wanting to be seen. Can you be typecasted by doing videos?
Creepy indeed … So disturbing.
Love this song. I’m glad Maddie is getting a consitent paying dance gig where hopefully she isn’t yelled at all day for the privilege.
Can she sing? Would be interesting if she used these music videos to jumpstart a lucrative singing and dancing career.
That was fucking intense. Does anyone know the choreographer who did this?
I don’t enjoy it but I appreciate Sia’s artistry. These videos feel important. And, damn, that Maddy girl is talented.
I personally appreciate all three. The artistry in them is bonkers. I don’t take them as Maddie but really think about Sia’s interpretation of her lyrics to the movement she approves for choreography in the likeness of her younger self. The movement is wicked and daunting making the words of her lyrics scream to be tied to movement of the performance. Good for Maddie for being able to deliver. The three performances have been very consistent with one another continuing Sia’s character…
Espi, I agree even with knowing I don’t understand it all. The video matches the angst of the song.
I guess this is “face dancing”? I prefer body dancing personally.
See, I like this better than the Elastic Heart video because I think it’s much easier to comprehend. Try to keep in mind that Sia is a recovering alcoholic, and a diagnosed bipolar schizophrenic, and that it heavily influenced Sia’s work and Maddie is portraying this through dance.
The motions in the beginning of the video resemble taking off earrings, taking off makeup, taking out contacts. Going through the motions when you’re having a bad day or when something bad has happened.
As the video goes on everything gets more manic and then we get to the part where another “being” takes hold of Maddie (as Sia). Think of this as depression (another ailment from which Sia suffers) and it takes over Maddie’s movements, words, and eventually her life which is almost ended because of the depression.
She manages to break free from the hold (literally) that depression had on her and in the movements following this scene we see Maddie smiling and fighting herself. We see her bite her hand and spit her fist out of her mouth. She’s taking a stand for herself and won’t keep her mouth shut. She won’t back down.
Much easier to comprehend than Elastic Heart.
That makes a lot of sense. I’m not a big fan of Sia’s new music, but I sure did/do love Breathe Me.
Loved your share!
Looks like baseball signals, to me. Remember “A League of Their Own”?
All I could think was…MADNESS! Until Cat’s response (looks like baseball signals) and after laughing, hard, I like her response more! 🙂
I suppose this is interpretive artistry. Very different and strange to me.
Maddie has developed into a very talented versatile dancer. I didn’t find this particular video creepy, just different. (in a good way) Shows she has range and can follow direction very well. I don’t know if I’d get Abbey all of the credit (because her ego is already huge) but with Maddie being her favorite, her training has paid off. I wish Maddie much luck as she continues to grow. Off topic, I wish everyone a happy Easter weekend.
meant ‘give’ Abbey….
I confess that I found it creepy because I understood exactly what Sia was trying to convey and it hit too close to home for me. Especially to see the situation interpreted by an an actual little girl. Anyway… moving on.

That’s how I felt about the second video. I was at the library, without earphones, so I watched it without the music. The visuals hit me, hard.
Looks like she’s being tormented by demons.
I guess that is kind of what it is about.
I get a mental illness vibe from it. Towards the end maybe even an attempted suicide from hanging when you see her feet dangling. It is very creepy for a child and way to mature of a subject matter. But I guess child actors do this all the time for movies.
ok, I seriously wrote a comment so long it looked like a dissertation so deleted entire thing. I definitely have a lot to say about this video & the whole Maddie (ahem.. Melissa) thing in general but will sum it up as best I can:
This is just fucked up on so many levels!!!!!!
