Some of us have been chatting in the Mardi Gras post for the last 46 days about our Lent practices. It is finally the last day. I did not do so well with Lent this year. But lots of people had great success!
So tonight if you’d like to talk about your “lentil season.” This is the spot. If you want to tell me what you Easter plans are, this is the spot!
It’s kind of an open mike night. A place for a Saturday night chat. So what’s on your mind?
Open mike! Whoo hoo – I was invited to my long-time girlfriends family cabin for Easter weekend. She brought her daughter and a friend. So it’s girls weekend. I love this friend dearly; we’ve lent each other money in hard times, I helped raise her kids when her ex was a total hack of a husband. She’s picked me up off the floor after evil boyfriends. For all this good, she drives me nuts sometimes. But I love her.
So I told her. How lucky I am to have her as a friend, how with other friendships, I wish they would be more like our friendship and that I’m so grateful. And I was verklempt.
Now if my giving up drinking over Lent had actually resulted in weight loss or getting rid of this jelly-belly, I’d be feeling ok!
Gave up all things chocolate. I can’t believe I am only 6 hours away from eating chocolate again!!! Easter plans will include eating chocolate, going to church, and some day drinking. Woohoo! I admire your choice to try to give up drinking. That is a tough one.
âNothing to admire there. I failed a couple weeks ago. 🙁

Good on no processed food; caved on the sugar a few weeks in, but not so bad; no alcohol until March 18, eh. BUT am exercising more. Now if I could just stop eating cheese. Mmmmm…cheese, glorious cheese.
Quitting smoking was hard. Been nearly two years and am still carrying that extra poundage. Have taken to picking up clothes at thrift shops to keep from investing in a “fat wardrobe,” so am not looking so put together these days.
On the bright side, Outlander starts again tonight. AND, TT invited us to a gabfest. So, all in all, a decent Saturday.
We will be celebrating Jesus’ murder by the Jews & his resurrection by grilling steaks & kabobs outside. On Easter Sunday the weather is forecast to be 69 degrees which is perfect. I will be at my parents house with my sisters, brother-in-law, & nephews (one of which is an asshole); so I expect some drama per usual. #HelpUsJesus. My Mom probably has a ridiculous age inappropriate B-day surprise for me too since my B-day is in a few days.
Happy Easter everyone!
Man, that Jews killing Jesus comment is so inappropriate.
I am Jewish and I’m not sure how to take the Jews killing Jesus comment. I was tormented as a little child by people who called me and my brother a Christ killer and I never knew why. I hadn’t killed anyone and didn’t know who Christ was at the time.Of course, I know much more now as an adult and I also know that although some Jews participated in the betrayal of Christ…we did not actually kill him or have the authority to order that he be put to death. As I get older I try to understand why Christians believe as they do and I have come to accept that Christ was a Jew just like me, a rabbi and a man who lived during a time when Jews were persecuted. I see his death as a mixture of fear, jealousy and politics and a total lack of understanding as to what he was trying to say and do. I don’t know if he was God or not and I probably never will fully understand the entire belief system. As a Jewish woman I am studying both the Jewish religion and the Christian religion and I find merits in both of them. I gave up many personal and material thing many years ago when I became a care-giver for my husband who has Alzheimer’s so there isn’t much left to give up. I wish you all a very meaningful Easter and hope that you find the peace that Jesus was trying to bring to humanity.
It seems odd to me that people don’t really know the Biblical story. It goes something like this…
Once upon a time there was this dude named Jesus and he was galavanting around healing people and turning water into wine and doing other super cool things that endeared him to a lot of folks. He was Jewish, by the way. Anyway all the big shot Jewish leaders thought he was sort of a show off out doing fancy acts of Godlike things. People were calling Jesus the King of the Jews and this did not sit well with the main Jewish dudes in charge. Jesus was eventually tried by the Jewish elders in the Sanhedrin trial. The charge was basically blasphemy because everyone was convinced that he was the son of God. Everyone except the Jewish clan that is. So they found him guilty of Blasphemy and wanted him dead. Only they either didn’t have the authority or did not want the blame for killing him so they took him over to Pontius Pilate who was the governor of that region and told him to do it.
PP was all like, I dunno, this guy and make a million fishes out of just a few, and he MAKES WINE OUT OF WATER you guys! What if he is the son of God, I mean stranger things have happened. I don’t want to be the one blamed for this. And the Jews were like oh don’t be such a pussy, just do it, you can blame us. PP is like I want to hear you say it! And they Jews said, “Fine, the blame will go on us and our children and our children’s children.” And PP was like okay fine then crucify him. And so they did.
So imagine how they must have shit their pants when the dude DOESN’T STAY DEAD! I mean that’s a big fuck up. Only Jesus had already forgiven them and everyone else before he (sort of) died. So PP was all good and allegedly so are all of us as long as we as for forgiveness.
Then God invented chocolate and later Peeps and we all learned to love our fellow man and lived happily ever after in peace and happiness.
Most of this (except for the Peeps and Easter bunnies) is outlined in all four gospels (which are pretty much four books of the Bible accounting a similar time period) But only Matthew pointed out that it was all the Jews fault. So years later it was thought by many Bible scholars that Matthew just wanted to make the Jews look bad because he didn’t like “the Jews” while other people said Matthew was like BFFs with Jesus who was a Jew so he could not be anti-Semitic (FYI this was probably the original us of the “some of my best friends are…” card) and he liked THE Jews just fine just not THOSE Jews that betrayed Jesus.
So even then no one could agree about anything and the Christians and the Jews have argued about Jesus ever since. It’s a sensey subject. Then the Pope before this super cool Pope we have now, wrote a book that said stop blaming the Jews for Jesus getting killed and all, it was all part of God’s Plan for Our Lives and be should all just be nice to each other. Because you know, religions of peace and all.
Then most Christians, especially the Baptists, stopped really worrying about what happened with the Jews and Jesus (Sidenote in college there was a group called Jews FOR Jesus, is that a thing anymore or was that more like a Kwanzaaa moment?)
And now Christians go to church on Easter and whisper about who is wearing the ugliest dress or hat and prays their preacher winds things up before the other nearby megachurches so they can get quick seating at the Red Lobster.
I hope this clears things up for you. Please to not hold me to a higher standard of accuracy than say, the Bible itself that has been rewritten so many times who knows how it started out
You’re Welcome.

We all killed Jesus because he died for our sins…he was our atonement. He said “no man takes my life but I lay it down for no greater love than a man has then to lay down his life for his brethren”…ok, I paraphrased that last quote but it was very very close to what was said! lol Anyway, if we hadn’t committed any sins he would not have had to come down to earth and die. See? He did it for us or because of us so if we would have just stayed perfect…damn that adam! or eve! or the snake! or all three! The bible says we were born in sin. David, the harp player, said in sin did his mother conceive him. I just got all preachy didn’t I?? Hey, it’s EASTER!! just ignore the bunny with the eggs cause that’s a whole other religion..lol
Happy Easter/Passover/Holidays everybody, so I am politically correct.
The Jews comments, I always thought it was more of the association by geography. Could be wrong though…It is similar to a comment that you see once in a while about polish concentration camps – that one is a big time offensive to Poland and Polish people. It stems from the fact that during the war Poland was occupied and fought Nazis on one side, Soviets on the other, and had no say about anything at the time.
Anyways, have a peaceful day, I still got some eggs to crack. 🙂
Besides, I believe it’s been historically establised, it was the Romans who crucified Christ. And resurrection … really? Who actually believes that actually occurred?
Yeah, Biblical knowledge doesn’t seem to be your thing. Christians actually believe that actually occurred actually. Turn on the TV tomorrow and you might see some people in Churches that believe in things written in the Bible. You already missed to Pope doing his late night vigil but I think he has the happy resurrection event in a few hours.
Also, are your parents alive? If so could you tell them that you need some home training regarding your attitude toward the religious beliefs of others?
The Romans did crucify Jesus, but the Jewish leaders turned him over to them, but I’m with you on that resurrection nonsense.
I know Christians believe the resurrection actually occured. I dont believe in it. and I’m incredibly accepting of all religions. I don’t need my parents to train me on my attitude. I am offended by Uretha’s use of the term Jews Murdering Jesus. That sounds intolerant. However, you don’t chose to chastise her because you both have the same religious beliefs. Somewhat hypocritical, don’t you think?
You are an idiot. UF is a man. We do not have remotely similar religious beliefs, he has never discussed his here. And “Does anybody actually believe that actually happened actually.” Is a stupid thing to say on the eve of the celebration of the resurrection on a comment section where everyone is discussing their plans.
Poor parenting is clearly to blame.

There is a huge stage play taking place on am outdoor stage here in Salvador, Brazil. We watched it a few days ago (I took my daughter away when it got too “dark”, explaining that they were just actors, just pretending, and tonight everyone will be safe in their beds. (She’s five.) We walked upon the mid-performance, right before the Crucifixion, and there were Stars of David painted on the tapestry at the back of the stage. But the tapestry disappeared before Jesus’ condemnation, and the men who flogged and beat him were dressed as Romans.. like the guys who used to drive chariots. I’m going by their costume, not professing to believe one over the other. I guess it’s like the Bible.. many interpretations of any particular event. My only complaint was that in a city as Afrocentric as Salvador de Bahia, Jesus didn’t look so… European. But, hey, tradition is tradition. lol
I should clarify that the stage play, A Paixao do Cristo (The Passion of Christ) wasn’t the same as the kiddie play we saw at church tonight. The first one brought ” production valuuuuuuuuuuuues!” (Thanks, Ru), while the kiddie play was a lot more tame. Both of them had the murderers dressed as charioteers, though. Very” Ben-Hur”, as my mom said when I described the costumes.
I like traveling in “Brazil attending religious services Sarc.”

I don’t think the comment was intolerant. Many Christians believe that the Jews murdered Jesus. However it was prophesied. Some tend to forget Jesus’ words of prayer “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”. As far as the resurrection, duh it is what Christians believe. Muslims believe that Jesus was replaced and ascended before the crucifixion. Therefor, he was not resurrected because there was no death. So can we now not get offended by other’s beliefs?
DaintyFeet,
Why did that comment offend you, besides the fact that it was factual incorrect?
First of all I was being cheeky.
Secondly would it have been less offensive to YOU if I wrote:
“Jesus’ murder by the Romans”? If I wrote that would I expect someone Roman to be offended that I referred to them as Romans?
…and Jesus Christ when did the word “JEWS” become a derogatory word? And for the record JEWS do kill people just like everybody is capable of doing.

I’m rather amused about this Easter debate considering that I was a born on Good Friday all those years ago. I want to eat some Peeps right NOW!

Interesting responses and conversation here. As a child I was not educated in the Bible until I attended Confirmation classes as a tween. so I had no frame of reference regarding Christ (other than to be called names). I don’t know for sure if he rose from the dead of if he is God but I respect the fact that many people do. I watched a bunch of Easter related programs this weekend and found “Killing Jesus” to be the most realistic to me. I felt great compassion for how Jesus suffered and how he was put to death.. Yet, I’m still not sure what’s true and what’s not. Sometimes the Bible seems like the game of “Telephone” to me where information is passed from one person to another and by the time it gets to the last person the story is totally different.from what it was originally. The one thing that I have been taught (by my Parents and Rabbi) was to NEVER put down anyone’s beliefs and to respect the fact that people can believe any way that they want too. I hope that everyone had a good day yesterday and that whatever they celebrated it made them feel happy and content., I also hope that everyone who celebrated either Easter or Passover did so without. prejudice and with hope.My father was raised Orthodox and rejected the strictness of the doctrine and my mother was raised simply knowing that she was Jewish and therefore held a belief in God. I subscribe to “Do unto others…” I have been told that I will go to hell if I don’t get “saved” but I’m not sure that the people who told me that are merely parroting what they read and what they are told. I think that I’ll put my trust in God to either “save” me or reject me. He knows far more than humans do. I am looking forward the the 4th of July because other than getting burned by a firework it seems so much less controversial and there isn’t any faith shaming connected to it.
MZU. I feel the same way about things as it seems you do. As a kid I could not get over the “King James Bible.” It seemed so obvious to me that once King James admitted to editing what are assumed to be “holy scriptures” we have a problem. It’s interesting now, with the online bible to be able to view several translations of scripture side by side. Telephone is a good description.
There is a lot of support for the atheists who say it is all fiction, and yet it seems that all humans have an innate knowledge of a higher power. And everyone seems very passionate about understanding of their higher power.
I think religion is both what keeps everything all together as a way to control behavior and what will eventually blow us all up.
It’s a fascinating subject. To me the most interesting part is that all religions have an element of “”we’re going to heaven and you’re not unless you do it our way.” So many contradictions.

Merilyn yesterday I was involved in rational conversation with my sisters, and I said the same thing about comparing the stories in the Bible to a millennia game of “Telephone”.
Plus I added that they’re were no psychoactive/psychotropic drugs back then to treat mental illness. Some of these stories could have been told by people that were hallucinating or having a crazy episode. There is some fancy word for the theory that religion could have been influenced by those affected with mind altering plants, etc.
Though I was raised Christian I don’t know if would say I am 100% Christian because I am too open minded. For me I believe there are many paths to God, and religion is like the a la carte choices at the cafeteria. I pick and choose what works for me.
The mental illness thing is something I never thought about. I don’t think it was as widespread back then though. Also there are multiple recorded accounts of the Jesus stuff that are similar. Some were not included in the NT but were written about the same time.
Also it would not be so hard for me to write the whole religion thing off as “wishful thinking” if it was not an innate thing. If you wandered deep into the Congo before Internet and such every tribe and community believed in some sort of “God”. It was different for all of them but everyone of them had some religious belief prior to the Jehovah Witnesses feeling like they had to knock on people’s doors and explain it to them.
I’m not arguing with you, UF, I’m just explaining why I am more agnostic than religious or atheist. It would not surprise you to know I am confused. In my family as with many others, the closer to death the more we look for reasons to find God. You know, as if he had been hiding all our lives. 🙂

Spending Easter in Brazil. My third… First time going to church, though. My daughter and I were invited to a children’s show/service by the restaurant owner a lunch spot we patronized the past two days. Lovely service, the kids were adorable! A little eerie seeing the two dressed as Romans flog and crucify a sweet little boy sporting a crown of thorns! My little one had so many questions! I also learned the connection of eggs and the “Easter bunny”… Funny how I never knew this, never cared to Google, but was riveted during storytime! Probably moreso than the kids!

We all arrive over the weekend at my older sister’s house in north Georgia, and tomorrow after services at the First Baptist Church, all of the middle-aged women will be in the kitchen putting the finishing touches of their dishes of fried pork chops, ham baked with Coca-Cola, Savannah red rice with shrimp, mackie/cheese, green beans cooked with onions and chopped ham bits, collard greens mixed with cabbage, squash casserole, creamed corn, banana pudding, red velvet cake, and cat-head biscuits/corn muffins. Also on the table will be cold dishes such as a spiced apple/pickled peach/sweet pickle plate, a fruit jello, cole slaw, and deviled eggs.
(Ms. Phaedra Parks, you need to know that not all white women are so sorry that they can only cook out of cans, thank you so much).
After the meal, we women will go out under the carport to drink iced tea or cold beer and gossip rather than watch the guys scratch their balls and drink liquor lying back in recliners while watching various sports programs.
My 83 year-old mother will get into a tiff with my sister’s mother-in-law, also 83 and in early stages of dementia, and we’ll have to separate them until the next day when it’s time to go home. We’ll say our goodbyes and head off to Charlotte NC, Savannah GA, and Aiken SC until next year. This is the big get-together for us as a family since Thanksgiving and Christmas plans revolve around the married younger generation’s appeasing their in-laws.
Nancy, pass me a cat-head biscuit and a little slice of that ham. Yes, please. Enjoy your day! (Two of my dad’s sisters fought so often and so loudly that we were told one of them had to leave assisted living; they were upsetting other residents. One of the best things about Southerners: we don’t hide our crazy. They sit right out here on the front porch with the rest of us.)
Phaedra should know that the canned food Apollo loves so much came from him being in jail.
What is a cat-head biscuit? Sounds creepy, but interesting.
My grandmother used to call them tarrapins (which is kind of a turtle) but that was a family thing I think. Basically they are “spoon biscuits” that you don’t roll out but rather drop them on the pan and then bake which results in a rounded bumpy top. Some people make theme “as big as a cat’s head!” thus the name.
At least those are the tales I’ve been told. Theses names seem to mean different things to different people. :)

Yes, he was. He was a self-proclaimed Messiah. King of the Jews. The Jewish people did not accept him as their Messiah. The Jews today are still awaiting the arrival of the one, true Messiah.
Netanyahu?
@how Yes. The Rabbi’s wanted him crucified because he defied the written law. I find it interesting that people chide the faith of Christians or Jews, their belief that the Bible is God’s Word and that Word is Truth…but would never step to a Muslim to challenge their belief in Muhammad, the Qu’ran or the Haddith. Smh… Happy Easter all.
I disagree. I feel like Islam is undermined in the media all the time, because many people in the western world attach Muslims to terrorist groups like Al-Quaeda or ISIS. Judaism, however, is never undermined in Judeo-Christian societies like the United States and other “first world” countries. The very idea has its own unique term… antisemitic.

We usually BBQ for Easter. For the last couple of years somehow I’ve been elected to do the Q’ing. I didn’t fall for it this year. People show up right when the food is ready and then leave shortly thereafter. I spend hours cooking and cleaning. I do it for Thanksgiving and Christmas but, this year it’s just the peeps who live at my house for Easter! The bluebonnets are blooming so we will go wild flower gazing.
I’m relaxing at home, avoiding all travel and exercise.
I successfully gave up alcohol for Lent and managed to pick up an ice-cream habit. I am now heavier than when Lent started. #Lentfail
That’s because alcohol and sugar both hit the same pleasure receptors in the brain. I remember one year my brother gave up sugar and I gave up alcohol. I normally don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I ate ice cream and cookies all through Lent. My brother said his alcohol intake increased. It was like we swapped vices for Lent.

I considered buying a can at Trader Joes just because of all our seasonal lentil jokes. I am not sure what lentils even taste like.

Speaking of lentils and Trader Joes…in the produce section they have these precooked refrigerated Beluga Lentils which are fabulous. I make a cold lentil salad with lots of chopped parsley, lemon juice and olive oil. Yummy and quick and delicious! They have texture, unlike regular lentils which tend to be mushy.
I ate lentil soup once, and a friend who’s trying to eat super-healthy tried to impress me with lentil cakes. They both tasted like dirt. Me no likey.
Ick. I can’t stand lentils.
@sarcast Every Muslim may not be a terrorist, but every terrorist attack we have seen since 9/11 was carried out by a Muslim(s). They don’t need the media to distort their public image, they are spectacularly successful on their own. And the Israeli’s don’t attack, they respond to attacks. I would really enjoy a spar with you on this topic 🙂 but I am a practicing Christian (+Pro israel) and prefer to celebrate today…so rain check k?
Keep practicing. You’re not very good at it.

@TT, Is @Tanya responding to you thinking is me?! Or maybe she doesn’t want to address you directly (and incur the wrath), so she added my name? lol!!
I dunno. I am hoping you are going to handle this one. My tolerance for stupid is low today. She will be terribly busy with church today, so…… #eyeroll

Just a suggestion, but you might want to improve your choice of news sources. The vast majority of terrorist attacks since 9/11 haven’t even been motivated by religion, much less than by Muslims. The majority of terrorist attacks world wide are carried out by various separatist groups. In any event, a religious holiday is an awesome time to respect one another.
@Caws Hard to challenge my news sources when you made no reference to yours. And btw…there are over 80 terrorist organizations around the globe, all Muslim. Might be useful to know that.
Tanya that post was from me. Not sure what happened to my screen name earlier. I’m not going to insert links. Against Tamara’s rules. It’s her blog as much as you seem to have hijacked the intent of this particular thread. Try looking at national Review. Is that conservative enough for you? I can think of only one news source that would claim all terrorists are Muslims. I’m saddened that someone would take a happy Easter thread and use it to attack other religions, though. Not terribly Christian IMO.
@caw Actually, that is not what I said but thanks for the comment.
‘MERICA!!!
btw TT, what the hell is up with this season of Survivor? Worst tribe name in history. I’m embarrassed for them.
On behalf of my country I would like to apologize for this season of Survivor. I’ve watched every episode of Survivor ever and this season I still don’t know who the people are. I liked the girl who was fascinated by the monkeys fucking that everyone hates. I could not bother to tell you if she is even still in the game, let alone her name. I just thought really hard and the only names I know are Will because every episode Probst does a 10 minute blow by blow on how badly he sucks in challenges. Then there is Joe with all the hair who everyone hates because he’s good at challenges and pretty. The girls are a bunch of cuntsicles like no season I’ve ever seen.
Again. On behalf of my people, we extend our deepest apologies to your people for this travesty.

Tanya, that had to be one of the idiotic statements I’ve read in a while. What world do you live in? Anthrax attacks, Beltway snipper, Earth Liberation Front, Scott Roeder, Austin suicide attack, Sihk temple shooting, Sandy Hook, not to mention the other school shooting, plus there are all the organized groups, well there are more but these incidents all had deaths and were not related to Muslim. You need to shut up.
Yeah, Tanya seems to like trouble. This is the same person that said, “I don’t really care for her, but…..” Referring to Big Ang. So, I guess she thought she would get it started here, too. The self-described beast does need to shut up.
@Sandra Your vocab is kinda limited huh?
What type of beast? A dog? Oh wait I don’t really want to insult dogs. I think it’s a tie for cunt satchel of the week!
@Angel. You’re a Muslim…who named yourself after the ministering spirits God created ‘that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word’ Psalm 103:50. Seems like you might need to read more.
Also, calling me names, doesn’t make what I’ve said less true, just makes you seem bitter, and small. I feel sad for you.
I don’t think Tanya’s brilliant mind realizes that there are plenty of Muslims who read and post here. She was not prepared to be faced with facts. It never ceases to amaze me that a certain type of “Christian” cannot even comment in a “Happy Easter” comment section without expressing hatred for those with other religious beliefs. Those types are the ones that wander the world convinced because they have fancy handbags that God has blessed them above say the 276 Nigerian girls kidnapped simply for going to school. Clearly in that strain of “Christianity” those poor little girls are just not God’s favorites.

@Tamara My apologies for the left turn. I love to debate with smart people, who are not necessarily like minded. Christian tenets do not preclude one from having spirited discussions about faith. Speaking the truth is not hate. But I will concede that some can’t have intellectual exchanges without losing their composure and cursing and hurling insults. It’s a shame really.
@Angel I should shut up??? Well you certainly don’t live in the same world as Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Do you? Take a seat doll. Don’t crap on my holiday and I won’t eat bbq spareribs on yours. Mmmk?
@Tanya. Oh yum can I have some of those BBQ spare ribs? Don’t assume you know anything about me. I am Christian with a degree in Political Science focusing on comparative governments. My husband and daughter are Muslims. On this holy day I will remember this: Romans 14:1-4 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
@ (?) I find the longer I stay in the Word, reading it to fill my spiritual cup…and praising the God who wrote it…any anger washes away and peace is in it’s place. You are hurling scripture at me like a weapon…please stop. Thank you.
““Christian” cannot even comment in a “Happy Easter” comment section without expressing hatred for those with other religious beliefs. ”
THIS!!! The ultimate hypocrisy!
@Sick I’ve said nothing that is not factually accurate. Speaking truth is not hate, but calling me a CS definitely is.
Luke 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.
@ (?) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Corin 6:14
If you’d like I can also quote the Qu’ran and Haddith to make my points clear. And we could go all day back + forth…but I will not.
I’m heading out…to enjoy Easter dinner with my family. Whatever you are doing today, I wish you peace + joy and the love of our Lord.
Selah.
Quote the Qur’an all you want. I don’t think you truly understand any of teachings considering you don’t understand that I am not a Muslim. I could put my husband on and have him school you. By the way, these are facts not put downs!
Ugh, Tanya. Stick to RHOA commentary. You’re true personality is very unlikeable.
@sarc ‘unlikeable’ Ha! Pot meet kettle. And I will stick to whatever I please.
I’d call Tanya one of those “say-so” Christians. So much for keeping it light, Tanya.

Most of our holiday celebrations are down to the three of us (me, husband and daughter). We toast the memories of family gone by cooking many of my family ‘s Easter dinner favorites: ham, baked beans, broccoli cheese casserole, deviled eggs, potato salad and home made potato rolls. It’s my first holiday meal cooked in my almost-finished kitchen. I’ve waited 20 years to redo it so I am ignoring the lack of a hooked up garbage disposal or dishwasher
âCongrats on the new kitchen! I’m envious! 🙂

Usually it would be ham, mac and cheese, pork and beans and French bread but my hubby works on Sunday and the boy won’t eat ham so no plans to cook. No family get together for me until next weekend. My son eats the same dinner every Sunday. Chicken nuggets, cheesy mashed potatoes and Hawaiian rolls. Just another Sunday like every other Sunday for us. Raining here and overcast. I may get my nails done today.
Urethra I was not at all offended by your post. The Jewish high priests were most unhappy with the way that Jesus was interpreting their laws. I always enjoy your posts anyway. Happy Birthday! May you be gifted with Peeps.
We shuffled our toddlers from one Easter egg hunt to another then I cleaned my hiuse and grocery shopped. Finally when my two year old fell asleep I drank a ton of wine and we stuffed eggs. Now today I have two toddlers hopped up on sugar and I have to deal with my in laws and cook a big meal. Blah. Happy Easter.
It’s good to remember the time when Jesus our Lord once offered His life for us. Happy Easter!
I miss my moms great Easter dinners of the past. She was one of those old school cooks (like Sweetie Pies) that got in the kitchen by herself, prepped the night before and cooked EVERYTHING! And it was good! Those were the best times that I didn’t appreciate til she was gone. I don’t know how she did it. When I tried keeping the tradition going it would exhaust me being in the kitchen all day. Plus having kids and grand kids that didn’t (don’t) really appreciate putting in the effort of keeping the tradition going. But oh well things change and people change. I am just grateful to listen to other peoples happy stories of their family gatherings and enjoy the day the best I can. I still have a lot to be thankful for. Happy Easter everyone!
This post makes me sad. My family’s all spread out, and the ones nearby are sociopaths so I hear you on trying and failing to keep some traditions alive. Best to you, eg and Happy Easter to you, too.
@Katherine, thank you!
My mom made the best scalloped potatoes every Easter. And everything else. She was a very religous Catholic.
It really amazes me, how hateful some Christians can be. Playing the religion card, and using your faith as a shield is just wrong. It doesn’t give you the right to pass judgment on anyone.
Just in case, let me slap down MY religion card, so we are all playing the game fair and square: I studied Christianity, Buddhism, Wicca, and a few others. I also grew up in a schizophrenic Catholic/Satanic household.
Do I win?
Happy Easter, everyone. And I mean, EVERYONE.
Oh my Cat!
Thanks! Hope you have a great day, too!
Oh, and I studied Jewish Kabbalah for about 10 years, too. That was fascinating, and in no way evil, as many people say it is.
For some reason, known only to the higher power of your choosing, there is ALWAYS someone that takes GREAT JOY in being disgruntled and hijacking posts to suit their own agenda. It seems as though there is a deliberate stirring of the pot. Making sweeping detrimental comments about various faiths such as those made against Islam and Judaism serve no purpose other than stirring up trouble where none existed. If memory serves me, there is only one true judge and it is certainly not our place to sit in judgement of anyone’s faith or beliefs. Stirring up trouble and offending others seems to be a regular MO for some. Perhaps the saying regarding misery is true for them…Happy Easter to those of you that are celebrating it, and to those that are not …Happy Sunday.
You are right Joanie. There is always someone intent on spreading their negativity no matter what the topic. And, apparently, no matter what day it is.
Happy Easter.
Amen, Joanie!
Well said Joanie. When I was studying to be a hairdresser, the first thing they said to us day one…Don’t discuss politics or religion with the clients in your chair. Nothing starts heated discussions like one or both of these topics. All you need to do is come here and read to see how true that is. Notice, I stayed out of the conversations.
I have always wondered why some people seem to thrive on controversy and live to spread their particular version of venom. After all this time, I have yet to understand it…I think it takes entirely TOO much effort, so I gave it up. My first Psychology class included a warning similar to yours-don’t try to analyze your friends, family, or yourself. I think we should include vile trolls in that grouping, as well.
But Joanie, she’s such a fine Christian lady just trying to let us know about the evils of others! 🙂

@Joannie You are late to the convo…and your comment is completely inaccurate. But I don’t owe you any explanation. I apologized to Tamara for the exit off the freeway. That’s all.
Tanya, if you are addressing me, you have misspelled my name. My comment was timely and valid. While you may have apologized to T for the abrupt exit, there was considerable venom from you against the Islamic faith. While you have the right to express yourself, perhaps you should think about the ‘Christianity’ you are exhibiting in doing so. It becomes more about the seeming hatred of Islam, and not portraying Christianity in a means that would pique someone’s interest in it. The words are more than your witness, while perhaps it should be the opposite.
@Joanie I’ve said this several times already. Speaking truth is not hate. Just because you disagree with a POV or it is difficult to choke down, does not make it hate. Nothing I said was factually inaccurate. If you took the time to read the whole thread, the ‘venom’ was not coming from me. Thanks for the advice, but I’m good on how to practice my faith. I don’t just quote scripture…I live it, everyday. Thanks for the reply.
Tanya, I did indeed advise you about being judgemental, if you had read this posting…
Went to the Booker T Washington national park today after church today. Walked thru the settlement with the family and our chorkie Izzy. Had a wonderfull picnic after. My daughter decided to volunteer to be a junior ranger. Nothing fancy just cleaning up after and feeding the animals, gardening, and picking up trash. None the less I was very proud of her giving of your time to help others is a rewarding experience.
Now for the person posting mean things about other peoples religions. Don’t be worried about the label people put on their belief by name or the building that they learn about their beliefs. The relationship you share with God is the key. If you think your increasing your position by bashing others beliefs you don’t have a very good grasp on what Jesus stood for and it certainly was not his way to invite people to believe.
That sounds nice, getting out as a family and walking and partaking of nature, and a picnic; that’s a great idea. Kudos to your daughter deciding to be a part of things and help by being a junior ranger. Very sweet.
I must ask you; what is a chorkie? I’m guessing a chihuahua/yorkie mix.
Yes exactly
So what are my chances I have a one night tryst with a british prince this week? He’s pretty cute.

Years ago my Mom, who could be a bit eccentric, decided one year that it was too tiring to have Easter on Sunday what with all the cooking and cleaning up afterwards and having to go to work on Monday so….she decided to have Easter on Saturday. True story. I remember that it was one of the best Easter’s we ever had and friends and family didnt have to eat at 2 pm so people could get on the road by 6. Hahaha! Love my Mom…so blessed that she is still with us
That’s a great idea; we’ve done similar things in our family because of one or another’s schedule, too. It’s all about the fellowship when you’re trying to get the family together anyway. And the next day, the participants don’t have to break their necks driving home and ruin the feeling of well-being or the mood. On the day of the actual holiday, the others can again celebrate in their way as well. Your Mom sounds like an inventive and interesting woman, not held to tradition. Common-sense folks like that are rare.
Plenty of people spend holidays alone, for whatever reason; I’ve done it myself. I’ve been 1000 miles from home and couldn’t afford to fly/drive so I just invented things to do on my own. But in spirit I was with others. It just works out how it works out.
That’s right Nancy, as long as you are together that is all that counts ☺
Hey, T! Isn’t there a Bible verse that warns against trying to remove a speck from someone else’s eye when there is a bigger splinter in your own? Somehow, I think that she forgot about that one – a little to busy dragging others through the mire to look at her own black-hearted issues! Certainly not the kind of witness that brings the unbelievers to God. I’m quite certain that if this is her version of Christianity, then I would pass. Too many judges in the ‘Christian’ faith when the teaching was clearly against it. But hey, to each their own, right?
@joanie Instead of worrying about what kind of witness I am, perhaps you should examine what you do. Judge not..lest ye be judged. Math 7:1-3
Isn’t that what I said?
Well technically you paraphrased Matthew 7:4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
But her response is now something like Middle School 1:7 I know you are but what am I?
Or perhaps she was going for Elementary School 4:16 I’m rubber, you’re glue, everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you.
At any rate, with a few more prods she will be back to Westboro Baptist 20:14
Muslims are terrorists and you are a Muslim because you married a Muslim man and had Muslim babies.
tick tock…

Oh but wait Tanya! Was reading the initial posting in which I pointed out that there is only one true judge too much for you to do, so you decided to chide me about judging you? Opinions are like bums, everyone has one, but that does not mean that they need to be foisted on anyone else. Take one final point, please…Not every Muslim is a terrorist, and not every terrorist is Muslim. There are fanatics in every faith, it is not something unique to the Islamic faith.
Again Joanie…well said. The last two sentences are the FACTS that Tanya keeps speaking of. And when you realize what the FACTS really are, then what Tanya said made her look ignorant.
@Riley Why don’t you google the term ‘ignorant’ doll’. I am well versed in what I choose to discuss here. Including Sharia Law, al-Taqiyya, ME politics AND Christianity. My husband is stationed in Iraq, and I get my information by first hand account. And after you have done a little reading, to catch up on what I just referenced…STEP OFF mmmmk?
You are funny and still don’t get it. Maybe you are not ignorant about some issues…what Joanie said is correct.
