Scandal Discussion!

Kerry Washington Scandal

I know several of you have expressed interest in my Scandal ( and The Blacklist)  recaps that I used to do. The truth be told, recapping dramatic scripted shows is way more time-consuming and intellectually taxing that point out that grown ass women on Bravo shows are getting paid shitloads of money to act a fool. Clearly, Real Housewives posts get way more view for way less energy on my part. Add in a troll in comments who consistently posts about the virtues of Nene or Brandi or Tamra  and I can take a nap for the afternoon.:)

That said, I was losing interest in Scandal but it is starting to pick up again. I was pissed that Shonda Rimes stopped the whole damn show to do a “Ferguson episode” that did nothing to move the long arc storylines forward a couple of weeks ago, but we seem to be back on track.

The incredible tension between all the former B613  operatives and David Rosen has recaptured my interest.  Even our favorite B613 folks,  Huck, Quinn, Jake, Quinn’s other creepy love interest… all could take out the other at any minute. Pretty much everyone is a blood thirsty trained assassin and I am never convinced they are truly aligned with anyone.

I’m glad that Shonda has returned to her formulaic episode structure. I like structure.  Just like on HTGAWM we have the big story arc and the one episode story that is a lecture topic, or a new client for OPA.  I do find the single episode stories kind of a distraction at this point. Especially on Scandal when any major player could essentially up and kill another major player at any moment. scandal cyrus james ruined

I’m still traumatized that Cyrus’ husband was killed. He was the Oscar winner on the show. If she killed him there is no telling what she and the writing team would do.  I wanted David Rosen to make Jake pay for that.

Anyway, I’m rambling. Just curious as to who is watching this still.  Also,  I watched Grey’s Anatomy again tonight and it seemed sad and heavy to me. Is it me or is Shonda getting kind of dark with all the storylines on all three shows?

It feels like we are all struggling to shake off winter. And we may be facing a month of April showers… Is there nothing fun and happy we can watch anymore?

Also, Blacklist fans, I’ll do a post ASAP. I didn’t watch tonight’s snow yet or RHOMel. I’m in a bit of a rut where thinking, reading, writing, doing things feels like slogging through intellectual mud. It should ease up in a day or two. I will try to get us all caught up. Meanwhile. I am going to stay up way too late tonight and get caught up on DIG on USA Network. I’m several episodes behind and Anne Heche is my mentally ill idol. 🙂

Dig is sort of like a network wannabee of Homeland. You can catch up On Demand.

    Yay!

Who else is looking forward to seeing Papa Pope return next episode?

Do we buy that VP Andrew was the only person responsible for kidnapping Liv? To start a attack West Angola? Why, again, did he want the US to attack? I can’t remember. Orrrr…did was Andrew a pawn of Papa, who wanted to teach Liv a lesson for turning on him? As Papa said, Liv essentially killed him when she pulled the trigger on the unloaded gun pointed at his head. Who will die next?

Will Harmony become a new regular? Does Hillary have a close relative waiting in the wings to become her Achilles heel?

Glad to have a spot to blab about Liv and company again! Thank You, TT, from this fan. 🙂

I hated this season’s opening episode, was starting to warm up to it again, and then we had the Ferguson episode. That sucked. Although as an Atlanta aside I was in the Publix parking lot when the whole Goodyear thing went down the other day and that was ‘interesting’.
Anyway, now Scandal is picking back up again. Shonda had better not kill off Mellie.

I disliked the Ferguson episode, too. Some people are corrupt and sometimes innocents are their victims. It sucks. But it happens. We know it. We know Shonda knows it. The press covers these injustices well. I don’t need to see them played out again on a scripted show that I watch to get away from them. Ferguson is a little too touchy a subject to fictionalize, IMO.

I agree , Shonda pissed me off on Grey’s when she killed off Avery and his wife’s baby . Scandal is my all time favorite show , but, this season didn’t start till this past Thursday . My friends and I discuss it and she is making Liv look crazy ! She had her kidnapped and Fitz did what he had to do to save her and now she’s mad at him . Then 2 weeks ago she is in bar and picks up a guy and runs away, then next she goes back to the bar and brings him home !! Nothing makes sense and Liv could have Fitz or Jake and now she is picking up strangers ????? I agree with you Tamara about Cy and killing James . I’d rather see smellie mellie ! What is wrong with Shonda ??????

Boy was I happy to see you are talking about Scandal again. I happened to miss the Ferguson type episode and was so upset about it. Now, not so much. Glad to see that you may start posting again. I saw on Twitter where you mentioned that your commenters didn’t seem to care much for the Dance Moms posts (in so many words) but I am really hoping that you continue to post about them as well. Hope you are feeling better Tamara. We all think and care about you more than you could ever know.
    Hugs….

I am still watching Scandal but this season has been rough for me because I haven’t loved it the way I have loved some of the past seasons. Some of storylines/plots have seemed even more farfetched than ever and Scandal for me has always been a bit far fetched. I’m still hanging on though waiting to love it again.

In terms of the Fergueson episode it was such an obvious “standing on a soap box” writing mission that I didn’t enjoy it. I love a soap box and I admit I sometimes love to stand on them. In terms of episodic TV dramas I hate feeling like I’ve been hit over the head with a writer’s perspective.

I prefer a more subtle writing approach when big issues like Fergueson become TV show plots…writing that makes me assess my personal views and consider other perspectives.

Thanks Tamara! I am looking fwd to getting everyone’s take…yay! I’ve watched it since S1 and I think Shonda may be spreading her creative mind too thin. The show was hot because of the sexual tension…with the other characters adding twists + turns. After Harrison + James died, it hasn’t been the same. Hated the Ferg ep. Love Liv’s Dad, Joe Morton is that classically trained black actor who brings intensity to his characters. Will see what Brian White can deliver, but I’d rather see Liv with Jake. Scott Foley gets hotter as he gets older.

Also, scripted shows dont spend the first 25 minutes of their show rehashing the previous three episodes, spend the next 30 with filler, and only show actual plot development in the last three minutes.

Pop Pope is such a cool villain. I don’t know why they always try to sell him short. He is always 3 steps ahead of everyone who is out to get him. I like looking at that Brian White character, he is quite easy on the eyes. I wish there was a way they could bring Columbus Short back, I thought he was a good actor too.

Oh yeah TT, I also meant to say I watch DIG too and I really like it. All of that biblical good versus evil stuff is fascinating to me. Anne Heche is a good actress. And I’m curious to find out what part that spooky little boy plays in the whole thing.

Love Scandal TT and I look forward to hearing everyone else’s prospective. There I times I don’t catch things that you point out, and then things seem to fall into place. I love Papa Pope…ice runs through that man’s veins he we get them all in the end. And I think the new VP will give Nellie a run for her money as President…if Mellie isn’t killed off making room for Olivia. Maybe David Rosen will be killed off next??? So many questions can’t wait for more discussiond. Thx TT for starting to recap for us nuts even though it’s a pain to you! Happy Easter!!!!

This was a good, twisty episode. I don’t totally buy-into Mellie running for office but her half-sister was a fun wrinkle. Was glad that Jake isn’t evil incarnate but hated the flashbacks of Cyrus’ husband dying. I liked his character––he seemed relatively moral. Am looking forward to a good Poppa Pope monologue … even though it means everyone is on the thin edge of death when he’s around.

Yay, glad to see Scandal recaps are back! David Rosen is always in the middle of murders LOL….sad to see James flashbacks. I want to see more of Harmony. Ever since Huck beat down Lizzie I like her. Unlike most i enjoyed the Ferguson epi, Coutnry B Vance’s performance was riveting. It’s coming. ..papa Pope is back! Do you recap American Crime?

I forgot about all this. It’s time for one of my boring, self-centered stories. YAY!

When I would come home to visit my elderly parents back many years ago, they were very into the show Murder She Wrote. My mother in particular was very offended that I would read a book during our family TV viewing. It was not because I did not enjoy Murder She Wrote. It was a good enough show to pretend to enjoy with my parents for harmony sake. However, there came a time when we had all seen all the shows several times. Yet my parents seemed to view them as if they had no idea who the (very obvious) killer was. Because their memory was failing.

I share, because I am an oversharer. And because I have reached the age where, I can’t remember shit. 🙂
