Jodi Arias Trial Juror 17’s Husband Was Prosecuted by Juan Martinez

March 6, 2015 by tamaratattles 140 Comments

Will this ever end?
Will this ever end?

I’m getting lots of questions today about Juror #17 based on tons of rumors. Here is what is factual. Juan Martinez prosecuted 17’s first husband and sent him to jail. 17 married husband number one (or at least the previous husband to the current one) the day before he went to jail. Clearly, 17 is a moron for that alone. There is a current crew of twitter sleuths investigating the arrest record of the current husband who some say that Juan also prosecuted.  I am surprised. I thought the prosecutions voir dire questions everywhere in the world, including Arizona, have to do with the juror’s previous interactions with law enforcement to weed out possible bias against the justice system. This is just utterly amazing. Even for Arizona. And frankly, the blame lies with Juan Martinez. It’s his job to weed out the criminally biased. Unless of course 17 lied about her past criminal involvement.

What now?
What now?

So now what? With regard to Jodi’s sentence, this doesn’t change a thing. Both sentencing trials resulted in a mistrial. There will be no third bite at the apple for a death penalty even if the juror is found guilty of egregious juror misconduct. The juror could potentially do some jail time.  Judge Stephens may be on the hook for mishandling the jury’s request to have the  person removed if in fact she did not have an inquiry of some sort with 17.  Frankly, this is just one of many serious issues with Judge Stephens handling of this case.

What 17 really needs to worry about is her name being all over twitter and the pack of crazed Travis Alexander supporters that are still wanting someone else to die. 17 has asked for and been granted police protection and is apparently in fear for her life.  I’m not being the least bit hyperbolic when I say this fool needs to change her name and move to Mexico.

I’ll let you know what else transpires as more information becomes available. Because, Arizona.

I’m positive that, the rest of thje lynch mobster jurors lied to get a place at the lynching… without a bleat, when, the Spaz, admitted his lies at law, and, reversal of format; swearing to, or, not even bothering to swear to, exactly the opposite, of the three yeears, ofv Jodis,’ life, he, already, embezzled… Who ever envisioned that even in Wonderland, Arizona, waiving the right to a speedy public trial, for nearly seven years, could be the means for a prostitutor to sentence anybody, with, known perjury of process…while, floating contradictory lies, under the noses of the stacked jury, and, braindead judge…??? …Edgrrr….

The fact that the prosecutor in this case prosecuted her HUSBAND is an unbelievable twist. I cant wait to find out if she lied, lied by omission or if she was never asked in voir dire.

You’re claiming that, she wasn’t an entire person, within, herself, and that, she was as crooked as the prostitutor…??? How about, the crooked judge, who told complainers that someone told them the A-Clan, was seen, conversing in the hall; with a juror, because, it was hearsay, that, two weeks later, the judge, bothered to look into it, and, found it to be true; convenind the trial, with the defective juror, and, telling the complainants to keep quiet about it…. for two weeks, until, the judge, canned the juror, yet, concealed her own complicity, for two weeks; “being quiet about it:..???…. ” was it, hearsay, to be quiet, about, the prostitutor, confessing in her face, to, perjury, then, needing to be, recanted…??? did the judge, assume the issue to be competently, waived, to notify the governmors, to see if recanting Arizona perjuries, is, unimportant….???Edgrrr…

#17 brought this on herself. Nobody but her knows the reasons why she did what she did. She heeds to be brought up on charges (runs in the family) and serve some time with Sheriff Joe for her actions. As far as threats to her go, the MCSO stated NO CREDIBLE THREATS in an official tweet. So much for that. I believe her fear is not of imaginary threats, but of being caught.

This is unbelievable. Next televised trial? I think with the international attention garnered by this trial, Juror 17 will have nowhere to hide. Demands will be made to have this juror investigated and all charges that could be brought against her will be brought against her. But I keep forgetting, it’s Arizona. Her actions should have some legal consequences if she deliberately screwed with the sentencing with a hidden agenda.

unbelievable even for Arizona, as I mentioned in a previous post there are some very serious flaws in Arizona law. I would be willing to bet Nurmi & Co. are just wetting themselves hysterically laughing over this news flash. As for the Judge, TT, you nailed yet again, She lost control of the court room long ago and this is yet again, a glaring example of a semi-talent allowed to handle a big league event. As for the Juror, AKA– muckraker, I hope she can find sanctuary somewhere otherwise there are those out there who are equally goof-ball enough to act on their own passions in some fashion. What a debacle all around.

Jodi’s appeals will be handled by someone who specializes in that area of the law. I’m guessing Nurmi can’t wait til she’s hauled off to prison so he can wash his hands of her for good. He’s still her attorney of record until she gets to prison – after that, she’ll pretty much need to find someone else to do her pandering for her.

I’m a little confused so some of this is me thinking out loud in words to y’all. voir dire is almost a 2 step process. I had jury duty but was not selected this past Dec. In the beginning they would ask us questions 36 people at a time. We had already filled out a 3 page questionnaire a month earlier. For some reason I think juror # 17 did say that there was some entanglement with the law in her past. I think she is definitely a stealth juror. If her hope is to write a book, I suggest she check out Casey Anthony’s book. Can’t find it? Right b/c she would love to write a book for $$$ but everyone hates her so there is no market for a book from she or her mother. This will be juror # 17’s fate. We have no desire to read anything she has to say.
Also, although JSS had been a judge, I believe this was her first death penalty case. I think she will go LWOP. At the end of the guilt phase of JA’s trial, JSS got misty eyed as she thanked the 1st jury and her voice shook. Almost all of her errors were against Travis and helped Jodi so that’s of no help to JA getting a re-trial. I have read her fan site since the original trial… I’m retired and don’t get around well so I have the time. I NEVER post there. Since the hung jury, they’re freaked out. They think this is the worst thing that could happen to her. I think that getting a new trial or even a hearing on trial error will be a long time off and hard to come by and so do her supporters. They say they need to raise $1 million to fund an appeal. Good luck with that! There is just a small # of people who post there over and over every day.
So, if she gets LWOP, I’ll be more than satisfied. Even if it’s LWP @ 25 years, I don’t plan to think or post about her ever again. That’s all she lives for so the isolation will do a number on her. So there is my silver lining to the verdict.

I hate to say this but I do believe that she does have Borderline Personality Disorder and people with this type of disorder are highly adaptable. So I have a feeling that when Jodi earns her way back into the general population, she’ll adapt and create herself a happy little life (well as happy as I can be spending your life in prison). It’s just the way it is.

I would bet money that after all this drama, Juror 17 ends up visiting Jodi in Perryville on a regular basis. Having saved her life and being dubbed her Guardian Angel, she probably feels some sort of kinship with her, especially with all the crazy people threatening her now. Plus it sounds like she has a soft spot for people in orange jumpsuits, so Jodi would be a natural fit.

To come all this way to result in an 11 to 1 vote with this juror controversy.. I just can’t even imagine what this has been like for them..

The only saving grace about this whole thing is that Life W/O Parole will be far worse for Jodie than any death sentence. Some Death Roll inmates are given more privileges at some prisons than Lifers W/O.
Jodie just has a inkling of what she’s in for at Perryville. Her first few years will be spent in solitary(23 hrs), meals brought to her cell, 10 min ph.calls/ ph brought to cell, outside in cage, shower 2-3 times a week, limited TV, limited visitation( over phone, separated by window , of short duration ).
Because of the type of murder she commited, solitary could last anywhere from 2years on up ( depending on her behavior in prison ).
Bottom line, she will have to earn everything she gets.
She is a manipulative skank, so she may be highly successful at getting what she needs in prison. But she will definitely have to work hard at it.
Most importantly, the public will grow tired of her, move on to someone(s) new to fixate on.
And this attention seeking whore will fade into oblivion.

The original info about JA’s first few years in prison being in solitary and very restricted has changed (idk the reason). A recent LWOP inmate, Marissa DevVault, sentenced June 6, ’14 to Perryville is already working in the kitchen, having visits, etc. The inmates have to earn their privileges and JA will have to do the same and it’s up to her how quickly that happens.

A local reporter, Troy Hayden, interviewed the warden who said he’s aware of JA being so manipulative and has plans for everyone on staff to be on alert to not fall for it when she’s in their custody.

We must have watched the same interview (one of Troy’s recent ones with the Perryville Warden) where he stated after 30 days (or it maybe 3 months) she’d be given quite a few privileges — certainly much more than we had 1st been led to believe. It appears many were wrongly reporting / confusing life w/out parole & DP sentences.
ETA: If I recall correctly this interview footage was included in a 5-7 hour clip of a live show.

Someone sent me the clip. What is said was that after 30 days of good behavior she could eat in the cafeteria at Breakfast and dinner. It was unclear if she would be shackled. After some time she would be eligible for a job which doesn’t necessarily mean interacting with inmates. She will be allowed to spend 80 bucks a week in the commissary so it may take some time to get enough for a TV. She can also participate in a 12 prisoner group therapy session after a short time, but she will be shackled and chained to her seat.

These are essentially the same things she would have on “death row.” It’s not like they were going to chain her to a wall and throw rotten vegetables at her.

The fact that she chose to date/marry criminals somehow means of the Alexander family should have to suffer? As someone else has already sad – I’ve stopped being shocked by most things in this trial. But I’ve got to tell you, this one is incomprehensible. I genuinely hope that something happens to this woman in her life that makes her feel the pain of the Alexander family is feeling now. I don’t wish harm – don’t misunderstand – but I do you hope that some point in her life she has to feel the kind of pain that she’s inflicted on the family.

There were, I strongly suspect, a few jurors on the death penalty side who had their minds made up long before the trial and were just as intransigent, if not more so. Not one of the pro death jurors moved off of their beginning stance during deliberations. It would be hypocrisy to not blame both sides equally, if indeed this was the case.

Again, you are making comments that are not true. While about half of the jury was in favor of death in the initial accounting, and some of them may have gone in that way…although there is no evidence of that. 11 people deliberated, and five or so went from undecided to death. 1 person did not deliberate and would give no circumstance under which she would vote for death, lied during voir dire and was reported to the judge for ineffective deliberations.

      Facts. They’re what’s for breakfast.

She can’t grasp the fact no one drank her Kool-Aid mix. Here we are discussing a broken system, nefarious jurors, awful defense attorneys. I am assuming most of us are doing this from the comfort of our homes and not locked up. The bottom line is this: JA is locked up, has been for years, will continue to be, and 99.9% sure she will never walk a free person again. This realization has yet to sink in for her, but it will, oh yes it will, and her followers also. I am reminded of an Aesop fable, the ass in the lions skin. As the Ass roamed about giddy at terrifying all the other creatures of the woods wearing the lions skin he came upon a fox and tried to scare him as well. The fox said he too might very well had been scared if it were not for that “bray” of yours! It was that “bray” of JA’s that did her in! interviews, lies, fake crying, all the weird behavior, stalking, the crime, the joy she gets out of tormenting folks. Over. done. She is locked up.

Oddly the only juror information I saw online last night was the crazy Jodi Arias fanatics publishing the names and information on ALL the jurors EXCEPT #17.

In my years of witnessing jury voir dire, which is handled by the Judge, one of the series of questions almost always (I guess except in courtroom circuses) do involve prior knowledge/acquaintance or interactions at all with any of the attorneys and courtroom staff, including bailiff, clerk and court reporter. And yes, that is in Arizona as well. It just seems so strange and unusual that this was allowed (or ignored) and Juror #17 was agreed to by both sides. Not all courtrooms in Arizona are circuses by the way. Just the most nationally watched ones I guess. Since I live in AZ (hangs head and looks down) I’m not going to end with because…

Do you have any idea what kind of illegal police work shenanigans go on in Mesa? Innocent victims were killed by the snipers in 2006, while Mesa PD was illegally lojacking the guys for months, unable to legally get a warrant. Don’t ask me how I know that. Mesa, AZ is a dangerous, dangerous place. Incredibly corrupt and disgusting police force. Jury voir dire is supervised by a judge, but “handled” by attorneys. It is not the judge’s job to investigate jurors. This was prosecutorial failure, and it is by no means surprising or unusual that this happened in Mesa, AZ.

.Juror 17 sort of reminds me of a baby Jodi. Thought she could just do whatever she pleased & skate (if rumors are true.) I think she lies to get on the jury with the intention of saving Jodi. Therefore, I could care less as to whether she has to hide out the rest of her life. I also got the impression that several of the other jurors felt the same from their comments. I am thankful for the recaps here as I was able to keep up without constant blood pressure issues. Could care less what happens to Jodi or her team. Any emotion I have goes entirely to the Alexander family, Juan Martinez & Det. Flores. May Jodi just go away. Also, with no death penalty, doesn’t Jodi have to pay for her own appeals now?

I am enraged! Not that I necessarily wanted Jodie put to death . I truly believe Life W/O Parole is a much harsher sentence( and deservedly so ).
No, I’m more upset that the defense team knew this info and felt no need to share this with the prosecution.
I would have thought the above fell under the area of ” Discovery “, where the Defense would have been obligated to inform the prosecution ( especially since they knew it only took one person to vote for life ).
The defense basically knew all along that juror had a grudge against Martinez and would probably take a stance opposite him in retaliation.
    Justice wasn’t served.
And I feel nothing but disgust for Nurmi and Willcott.
There has to be some consequence meted out to the Defense team and Juror #17 for their subterfuge and dishonesty.
If Jodie had gotten Life w/o the above happening, I would have said ” so be it “. As I tweeted above, to me a better punishment.
But the message it gives Jodie is not only did she get away with killing Travis, she did it by cheating the system ( outsmarting the system ).
And the juror (#17) who sought payback against Juan Martinez didn’t get revenge either.
Because now she’s looking over her shoulder everywhere she goes.
Her life in danger– not Juan’s, not Jodie’s, not even her husbands’.
Was her attempt at revenge worth it?
Was Travis not getting the justice he deserved worth her pitiful attempt at revenge?
The truly sad thing about what the Defense team and Juror #17 did was to tarnish an already degraded justice system( for me ).
    NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE

This is a ridiculous comment. AGAIN. Why on earth would you think the defense attorneys had any more idea about this whacko juror than Juan did? It’s not up to the defense to excuse jurors that are favorable to the defense. That is the prosecution’s job.

Jodi had nothing to do with Juror 17, Juror 17’s issue was with Juan. She is also apparently against the death penalty entirely based on a speech she gave against the death penalty a couple of years ago. Clearly juror 17 perjured herself under oath. This is no ones fault except juror 17. Especially if she lied about her interactions with the prosecution.

Justice was served. A jury was assembled. They were unable to agree on death so now the judge will give the sentence. The justice system worked exactly how it was supposed to for the most part. Someone was murdered. Someone was found guilty. Someone will receive a sentence. Case closed. Take your blood pressure meds.

I have been amazed over and over again that somehow Jodi Arias, convicted murderess, and her supporters consistently believe she is bigger than our justice system. Over and over Nurmi and Wilmott seemed to argue that. When it was all said and done, this is justice. It’s always messy and rarely neat and clean. I’ve said from the trial, if JA can’t get a fair trial then none of us should believe that we could either. Our system either works or it doesn’t.
I believe that we’ll eventually do away with the death penalty. So for now I’ll just think we removed one step in JA’s life in prison… no automatic review of her case.

If Arizona jury rules are the same as FL, maybe Juan was out of objections to jurors and was forced to take her. Do they have a limit in AZ on how many potential jurors each side can reject before they have to accept jurors?

FYI – Just watch a short clip on ABC15 News and 3 jurors, 2 men & 1 women have come out to do TV interviews. They announced the jurors will be on Good Morning America tomorrow @ 7:30 (Monday morning). I also read where juror #17’s current husband’s sister (is) was FB friends with the mitigator’s sister. I’d imagine if people live in the same communities – eventually they can cross paths somewhere. But who knows ! Thank God spring is coming… JA is stuck in prison forever, and we won’t hear much more than a mere mention of her anticipated flurry of appeals.

I’ve got time before work… I’m watching now & GMA hasn’t announced anything yet ! There’s more out there about Del Rosa mitigating #17’s current husband (? other capitol charges dropped) & made friends w/ his sister, hence #17’s FB friend association. I think misconduct would fall squarely on the juror’s failure to disclose bias anyway. Even if JM tried to make a motion to dismiss her, I’d bet he lost the attempt anyway. I’ve been through jury selection & it’s amazing the reasons lawyers use to dismiss people. I had a girl just smile @ me from the jury box & the defense screamed foul. Last I saw of her was her purse & her ass walking out. (btw – I was the plaintiff & won) 😉 ~ Lol

I am very disappointed with the Arias verdict. I am disappointed because Jodi’s crime was horrific. I am an old guy that observed the Manson women’s trial in real time. Jodi’s slaughter of Travis was right in the ballpark with Patrica Krenwinkle’s slaughter of Abigail Floger.Fact is Jodi was worse she killed Travis 3 times over.Krenwinkle originally got the Death Penalty which was thrown out by the California supreme court in 1972. Point being that IMHO Jodi didn’t get what she deserved, the DP. So my question is,can a Judge in Arizona sentence a prisoner to LWOP in solitary confinement. I know that this has been done in the federal prison system. It now appears that juror 17 may have been less that truthful during jury selection. If she was then she put her thumb on the scale of justice.. and if she did that may she pay the price. In the Jodi Trial there will be no more chances at the DP and it feels to me like it took a cheat to get LWOP. LWOP will be the sentence. But to me I feel that there is a need for something more and that would be LWOP in solitary. Now that is really Purgatory. Jodi will not be put to death but Jodi doesn’t deserve to be able to improve her living situation to the point where she can lead a life in GP.The crime was barbaric the punish should fit the crime IMHO

Anyone see where Sheriff Joe put the skids to JA’s visitation / video visitation practices? In addition to other “visitors” JA has been video chatting with a couple 15 year old girls even instructing them on how to make “fake” ID’s to get around age limits to video chat with her in jail. JA gets up to 10 such visitors daily (WHAT THE HELL??) the ban includes those who operate and update her social media accounts etc. JA herself has let it be known thru her surrogates that she is quote: “PISSED” about Sheriff Joe’s actions. plus Arizona Central indicates multiple sources that the court is trying to move up sentencing to later this month. The girl just don’t get it.
