Real Housewives of Melbourne Favorite, Gina Liano Hospitalized for Stress After Season One!

February 16, 2015 by tamaratattles 27 Comments

RHOme Gina already won As the Real Housewives of Melbourne prepares to return for a second season, Gina Liano opened up to New Idea Magazine exclusively to discuss the reality of Reality TV.  Despite being a huge fan favorite when the first season aired, the filming was particularly difficult on Gina. It seemed that lost of the ladies thrived on ganging up on Gina because they were intimidated by her superior intellect. Things got pretty ugly on the show.  All the stress took a toll not only on Gina but her two adult sons as well. Because of her previous fight with cancer, the boys were very concerned that the stress might trigger a relapse. Thankfully, last season’s nastiest cast mate, Andrea Moss won’t be back for season two. Two new cast member are being brought in and Gina has previously told the media that while there is a lot of drama in season two, but that she is not in the center of the storm.RHOMEL Gina Season 2-2 Here is an excerpt for Gina’s interview with Australia’s New Idea magazine:

While the show was going on, with all the aggressive behaviour and all that bullying, my younger son had anxiety attacks because it really was not a good thing for him. He wasn’t used to his mum being mistreated,” says the 48-year-old quietly of her 18-year-old son Myles. The housewife and barrister, who is nationally known for her cool demeanour and tough semblance, confides that the torment the other Housewives inflicted upon her had her son Christos, 24, fearful that it would cause her cancer to relapse. In a shocking revelation, Gina tells New Idea the stress caused by the bullying of the other Housewives, particularly Andrea, left her severely unwell. “I did end up in hospital actually,” she admits. “I had bowel cancer and I’d been in hospital at the beginning of the year for a bowel obstruction, which was a result of scar tissue. Then by the end of the year… Well, I didn’t know what it was but I was in a lot of pain. I ended up in casualty and they said that it was stress-related. It was on account of the fact that my body was compromised from all the stress in the year.”

Micheal needs to go the store and buy the print version of New Idea and report back!

She was the fan favorite?! Her clothes/makeup are amazing, but she was obnoxious as hell.

I loved Gina, she’s a little insecure, but so much more honest than the other ladies. Does this mean your favorite was Jackie the psychic? I got really sick of her shine shine shine shit.

I didn’t like Gina much the first couple episodes. Then everyone started piling on her, and I started to feel sorry for her. Her comment to Jackie about the demons was a bit rude, but Jackie went way overboard and became totally unreasonable. Not to mention Andrea and that stupid brunette jumping on her after that. Didn’t she make some comment about she didn’t stop interrogating people in the courtroom until they cried? That was something I didn’t like, and I can’t help recalling that now that she says she was hospitalized for stress.

On the other hand, by the end of the season I absolutely LOVED her. I hope it stays that way for s2.

We aussie love an underdog. I suspect her popularity is 40% personality, 10% drag queen looks and 50% how she handled being ganged up on.

I suspect Lydia will have a ‘Camille season two edit’. It appears she mostly avoids the fray this season.

Nope. She goes on the attack against at least one of the new girls, and betrays Gina again.

I can’t wait! Have we confirmed it’s airing in the States concurrent to Aussieland showings? Sadly I haven’t seen any promos on Bravo as of yet but I am keeping the dream alive!

On a less related note, as a physician training in psychiatry, I’ve never been able to grasp the concept of hospitalization for “exhaustion.” My understanding was that it’s a euphemism for “nervous breakdown” which itself is cover for crashing from illicit uppers or prescribed substances after sustaining a rigorous performance schedule or something of the sort. “Exhaustion” is certifiably not an admitting diagnosis on med-surg or psychiatric floors. The reason I bring this up is because Gina doesn’t strike me as someone to whom this might generally apply (I’m obviously speculating) and so I wonder if for her, intravascular volume depletion (often referred to as “dehydration,” though this is technically inaccurate) and/or electrolyte shifts from constipation or another bowel related absorption issue was really the culprit. Stress definitely can exacerbate any havoc already wreaked on the body so I’m sure filming with these catty b*tches didn’t help!

Please note, Tamara never reported that she was hospitalized for exhaustion (headline says “stress”) but it just made me think of it.

What I gleaned from her story is that the stress had an effect on her digestive system and caused pain similar to the bowel obstruction she had previously experienced. I know stress makes me have a ton of bowel issues in the opposite regard. If she became severely constipated again, that would account for the pain she reported.

Just my take on it. Not “celebrity dehydration” but just painful symptoms that were similar to her obstructed bowel that scared her due to the colon cancer.

I’m not surprised by this news. The other women were relentless in their attacks on Gina. I was always amazed at how she kept her composure and didn’t fling herself on the floor crying in the midst of all that as I would have done. But, stress will catch up with you one way or another. I’m disappointed to read, as Michael reports, that Janet betrays her yet again.
    Booooooooo, Janet!

Janet is one thirsty diva who looks like the crypt-keeper. Am sure Gina hasn’t forgotten her betrayal and is on the lookout for more of her questionable tactics.
