The courtroom was all atwitter in the literal sense and the technological one this morning. Juan had a lovely peach colored tie. There was someone who they thought would be a mystery witness. Security was amped up with an armed deputy added to the room. It seems like expectations are high for the seemingly boring day with a technology dude. We’ll see I guess. Ah, it seems Juan has a surprise witness, a guy with a goatee. He seems nervous and fidgety. Isn’t that Dworkin? Are all tech guys goateed and fidgety?
Nervous goatee guy is called to the stand. I’m not going to publish his name because he doesn’t seem like the kind that would like that. He is the father of the 9 year old that the defense made a big deal out of Travis emailing with. Supposedly, the mother told Travis to stop emailing her child. I can see that happening and being totally harmless.
As it turned out, the email to the 9 year old was spam from Pre Paid Legal sent out by Travis. The father replied “stop emailing my 9 year old daughter.” Juan has no further questions. Nurmi is doing redirect. There were only like two questions. The deal seems to be that the email was sent to the father’s email and began Dear (child’s name), and was trying to sell PPL. The man says he was concerned that the account knew his daughter’s name. It’s ridiculous. The poor nervous man is allowed to leave.
Computer expert, Lonnie Dworkin ,who testified for the defense in first trial is on stand for state. Going over credentials. Sidebar.
Dworkin testifies that he got his copy of the hard drive in December of 2009. He made additional copies for testing. He is asked if he was aware the laptop was accessed on 6/19/2009. He was. (BTW Travis was dead then) Someone accessed the computer for about 10 minutes on that day around 4 pm.
We move on to how SpyBot works. Dworkin says SpyBot installs a list of default sites to look out for. It creates zones in the registry’s database. “Like an inoculation.”
Juan asks about Jodi’s Helio phone and points out that during texting in May of 2008, there is an odd 8 minute gap on Jodi’s end. This is the text about Jodi talking about enjoying simulated rape, and being a whore and shooting a porno.
And Juan’s done. He must have plans to shoot a round of golf this afternoon.
On Willmott’s cross, the point comes to light. We don’t even know if Travis sent these messages. They are odd and broken off mid word with the end of the word on the next text. Lonnie says the break up of the texts is odd. Could be sent from a computer or cut and pasted from a computer. Some speculation from the peanut gallery Jodi could have been talking to herself from Travis’ computer. This was not testimony.
Dworkin says there was porn on Travis’ computer when he first got it. He watched it. Says there was more than just what was discussed yesterday. So far he seems to be helping the defense.
Juan is back up this time he drives home the point that there is something fishy about those texts and that it’s quite possible that Jodi could put the name of the texter into her phone to read as whoever she set it up to be. (Sorry I am braindead, I signed up for ObamaCare online today and my brain hurts,). The point is that Jodi could very well have been talking to herself and laying the groundwork for her alibi.
Juan’s other point was that no one asked Dworkin to look for porn on the computer. He did that on his own. Hissyfits from the defense.
Juan also points out that both prosecutors and defense were informed of the porn on the laptop. He’s done.
One juror question. Very long sidebar about it. It is not asked. The state rests.
Court is in recess until Wednesday the 18th Case will continue until at least February 25 or 26th. Because, Arizona.
