UPDATE: I watched today to see what Rosie would say and she said NOTHING. Things seemed tense with Whoopi. I’m starting to think that Rosie O got axed which is so wrong as she was there EVERY DAMN DAY unlike the other three and graciously took over moderating and picked up the slack when the others were out. I’ll keep you all updated.
File this under “Well, I didn’t see that coming!” I have been intrigued by all the weirdness at The View to the point where I actually posted about it recently despite it not normally being in my wheelhouse of entertainment news coverage. It that post I pointed out that Rosie O’Donnell was the only member of the four co-hosts who was consistently showing up to work.
Rumors abounded about friction between Whoopi and Rosie which I debunked. I am shocked to hear that Rosie has been estranged from her wife since November and has now file for divorce and is leaving The View. While Rosie’s view is rarely in line with my view, that was the initial concept of the show and her view was certainly a unique one that will be missed. Rosie is extremely talented in the talk show realm and we all noted that when she filled in as moderator the show ran much more efficiently. Personally, I think this could be the death knell for an already struggling show. It’s a good thing Mario Catone is always waiting in the wings to step in for whoever doesn’t show up each day. Rosie was on today with Martha Stewart and I really didn’t pick up on any problem. She’s supposed to appear all next week. She was already talking about wearing a dress on the Valentine’s Day show next Friday.
I’m not sure how quitting a lucrative job can be the best way to support five kids. It’s also interesting that Rosie always seems to have primary custody after her divorces. Her next future ex-wife has had a series of health problem related to some rare tumors that were removed just before they married.

Rosie O’Donnell and her wife, Michelle Rounds, have split, and O’Donnell will leave “The View” next week to concentrate on her family’s well-being.
Sources close to O’Donnell told us that she and Rounds, her wife of three years, have been living apart for months, and that O’Donnell feels she must leave the ABC daytime show to focus on her five kids.
Rosie’s rep, Cindi Berger, confirmed the marital split, as well O’Donnell’s departure from “The View,” in a statement Friday night: “I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November. Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention. This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first. ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave ‘The View.’ Next week will be her last.”
O’Donnell, 52, married her second wife Rounds in private in June 2012. In 2013, they adopted a baby girl, Dakota. She has four other older kids..
ABC said in a statement confirming her departure: “Rosie is an immensely talented star who comes in each and every morning brimming with ideas, excitement and passion for the show. When she told us she wanted to exit ‘The View,’ we respected and understood her desire to put her well-being and her family first. We’re delighted she’s still part of the ABC family with upcoming guest appearances on ‘The Fosters,’ and we know she’ll return to ‘The View’ often with her unique point of view and updates on her work and her family.”
O’Donnell’s debuting an HBO special about her 2012 near-fatal heart attack, “A Heartfelt Stand Up,” on Valentine’s Day.
I have been a fan of Rosie since her Star Search days. Her career, fame, & wealth blew up with her 90’s talk show. I loved her on the View (the first time), and I tried to love her this time around. Something always seemed off with her temperament & mood this time around at The View table. At times she even seemed sedated. I suppose her personal problems were affecting her performance at The Table.
But it annoys the fuck out of me that she has a $5,000,0000 a year job and has quit it TWICE. I know money is not everything, but DAMN that has to be the perfect job for anyone with a big mouth & personality. Must be nice to be in that position to quit. As an adult of the almost the same generation as Rosie, the corporate real world considers us too old and too expensive to hire or keep employed. Maybe I’m envious, jealous, or even bitter, but I don’t know how people can walk away from a job like that.
It could be strategic. Alimony payments and all.
I thought of that as well.

I suspect it is. Which is why maybe she is being ‘difficult’ at work to easily explain to the court if they query her leaving. I suspect it is frowned upon by the courts in America to quit a high paying job to avoid paying substantial alimony?
Actually, if you are rich and she is, and your are divorcing your spouse. Quitting your job to be a SAHM is a good thing.

Rosie is probably worth at LEAST 50 million dollars. All accumulated before she got married the 2nd time. She is a very generous and giving person, and claims she is not obsessed with money. She’s admitted to have having turmoil over accepting her wealth. I don’t think any of this is motivated by money.
If it was generated before their marriage I guess it is protected. I’m sure she isn’t trying to screw over her wife. Although, the rich do stay rich by being shrewd business people. Compassion is so expensive. 🙂
Rosie lost her mom young and being a mother means more to her than anything. I would have a hard time understanding how walking away from so much money would be the wise thing for her kids, but she has a baby at home. It’s clear she values time with her kids over more wealth. I think she is set for life anyway and the show was just a personal outlet.
That said IT”S LIKE A THREE HOUR A DAY JOB FOR ALL THAT MONEY!
I’m guessing the divorce and the awful weather makes her want to go back to Miami…

I really doubt it’s an eloborate scheme to get an alimony check, I think it’s just perspective – the ‘perfect job’ to you or me isn’t the perfect job to someone whose been in the industry for decades, that’s just her version of the day to day corporate grind.
I meant avoid alimony payments. Clearly she is the big earner.
I heard an interview with her recently in which she said she was making close to Oprah money during the end of her talk show. Her children are set financially. Having lost her mother so young and having her own health issues it seems she lives her life to be with her family and realizes that money isn’t everything. Lucky for her she has the ability to not worry about money. I don’t know why but I’m sad to hear she’s divorcing.
I bet she had wife # 3 lined up.
She did with wife #2 I think.
That’s just a tacky thing to say.

Sorry, maybe so. But that seems to be the pattern with Rosie. I have followed her for years, and yes, I am a lesbian. And I see it daily in our community. Usually when a relationship ends it’s because another is about to begin or already has. Fact!!
Way to contribute to the stereotype that gay marriages are unstable and unsatisfying Mert.
Overgeneralizations by definition are not facts. Fact.
I’m an idiot with no idea what I am talking about.
Rosie is a nasty and often angry loud mouthed pos. Pity her children. Enjoyed her twitter battles with that even bigger pos, Donald Trump, however. The Donald did not come off looking good.
I find Rosie to be passionate, her views may not be popular, but she sticks to them and I find that admirable. She always seems to be in some kind of emotional turmoil and The View may add some unneeded pressure. I hope she finds something that makes her happy ..I’ll be sad to see her go again.
Rosie is a great mom. Her politics are ridiculous. She’s not particularly Mensa material. But she has a big heart and has adopted five kids that she adores.

Which is more than we can say for a certain ex The View host.
I agree that Rosie is a great Mom and has a big heart..I think that’s why she is so like able. The View isn’t exactly known for hiring rocket scientists, I couldn’t stand to watch it with Sherri and Jenny, but I think there is so much shade going on behind the scenes and that’s probably what drove Rosie away twice. I hope someone writes a tell all some day.
Sings something from Frozen. She is a great mom.
That’s funny, I think the same about you. Loud and stupid.
I’m not worried about Rosie being able to support her 5 kids — she’s got more than enough money and she’s not exactly blowing it on designer duds
Heck maybe she took the job at The View in some kind of attempt to “save” the marriage (i.e., maybe she thought a little separation/having someplace to go outside the home everyday would have a positive effect on the relationship– they could “miss” each other a bit everyday instead of constantly being with each other) and once that didn’t work out she said it “Fuck it. I didn’t like it then, I don’t like it now.”
I don’t like rosie ever since she said that 911 was an internal conspiracy because steel does not melt, or some such nonsense. How does she think people used to make pots and pans. She is a little out there for me.
I agree her views are out there. But she is likeable, at least to me, and differences of opinion are what the view is all about. She is highly skilled as a talk show host. One of the best of the daytime circuit. She’s skilled at production. She’s decent with an interview.
I’d prefer her on a show where she was the interviewer and I heard less of her views. Because, Uninformed. But I think she has a place as a talk show host. I hope we see here again.

Used to make pots & pans — how about still do? LOL! I agree that “fire can’t melt steel” is one of the dumbest conspiracy theories out there, though and it did make me lose respect for Rosie in general when I heard her spewing it (although I still find her likable in a lot of ways too). What the 911 conspiracy theorists overlook is that the steel structural supports in a building don’t need to get hot enough to become liquid (which they could under the right conditions — those beams didn’t come out of the ground in that shape; they were molded), they just needed to get hot enough to become malleable and start bending for the weight of the building to start caving in on itself– like knocking out a structural wall in a house, the roof caves in.
But of course the 911 nuts don’t consider anything about structural engineering, so we end up with a bunch of people who don’t know the boiling point of water expounding on the scientific properties of steel.
So sorry to here this. I love Rosie and her point of view she says things everyone is afraid to say. You gotta give her that she is not afraid to start controversy. I agree with Tamera ever thing seemed much calmer when Whoopi was gone. There seemed to be such a difference. Maybe Rosie wanted to leave the sinking ship. I hope she survives this without one of her horrible bouts of depression. It’s got to be horrible the thought of ending another relationship. May she have peace within her family.
Wow! Damn it, I began viewing the VIEW again because of Rosie O. I think she is a better host than Whoppie, and holds steadfast on her opinions & beliefs. She doesn’t back down either, which I find admirable. Wow…raising a family is important to her, but it is really why she is leaving, or an excuse? Could it be the behind the scene politics of the show? Sherrie Shepard, is over there gloating.
Me too Gemini. I quit watching when she left the 1st time and was thrilled she came back. Dang. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more generous person than Rosie. I remember it being said she told her money manager they’d be fired if she had over a certain amount of money. Meaning, the overage HAD to go to charity. Its a rare thing for a super rich person to not want more and more, but to give.
She just seems so real and down to earth. I’m sad she’s lost love again, and wish her the best. Now I have an hour in the morning to fill, cant take Whoopie without Rosie.
Didn’t Sheri Shepard think
the world was flat?
Yes, yes she did.
Also that evolution is bs, the earth is a few thousand years old and that nothing predated Christianity (Jesus came before the Greeks and dinos). She is one smart cookie.
i think whoopi has become unbearable. since barbara left, i think. rosie ‘o and rosie perez were, for me, the ONLY likable people on the view. it’s a shame, but i suppose she doesn’t need the work. if i had her stacks, i wouldn’t choose to deal with whoopi’s know-it-all bullshit on E V E R Y topic either. especially on a daily. hey whoopi 1) quit shouting each and all of your words. seriously. it’s a thing now 2) what’s with the ‘i’m sorry’ that preambles your silly rants? it’s condescending and annoying as hayl, and 3) just because you’re REAL old and REAL black (her words), doesn’t mean you’re more wise or informed than anybody else.
m-kay. now my rants over. i will miss rosie ‘o lots.
I hardly ever get to watch the view but I did yesterday. I actually thought to myself that Rosie seemed unusually quiet as she hardly said a word during the first segment. She had a forced smile and her fingers kept tapping her cards. She seemed definitely far away.
TT I really respect how much you like her despite not sharing political views. You are my inspiration for one of my top five goals for the next 6 weeks, to celebrate people for merit and intention, not opinion.
Rosie doesn’t need the money! She is a multi-millionaire and does not have to work another day in her life. The View is a modern day Titanic… This boat be sinkin’ !
Also wonder if she really quit. They always pretend someone did when they can them.
True. But they just got through making a big deal out of the fact that Rosie Perez was not being fired. On the 3rd when everyone was there. Whoopi initiated a group hug at the end and made a very clear statement to the camera, “THIS IS THE VIEW.”

With the recent rumors of Rosie Perez leaving it sounds like that “insider” that spoke to Variety got their Rosies mixed up??? Right rumor wrong Rosie??
I think this show is on the way to being cancelled. Staying may have been career suicide. Rosie probably seen it coming and said I’m gonna get out while I have credibility.
I used to love to listen to Rosie on her Sirius/XM Radio show, where she often said she does nothing for money. In fact, she employed a lot of her friends to be on that radio show. She told her brother, her financial manager, once she made $100 million dollars on her TV show in the 90’s, she wanted to retire, stay home and just be a mom. The only reason she came back to TV was because the kids were older and she needed an outlet, not money. I will really miss her on The View…she and Nicole had the ONLY chemistry on that panel. I think Whoopie needs to pack up her weed and move on. A talk show, where she needs to be sharp and quick on her feet, is just not her forte.
I agree Jana, Whoopie ruins the show for me. She doesn’t seem very tolerant of other people’s views when she disagrees. I think Rosie, at age 52, with all the other stresses in life, is just tired of arguing. She’s likely also dealing with menopausal issues. I think she made the right decision to focus on the things that are really important in life, and I admire her all the more for it. I remember her saying once that she told her financial manager that if she ended up with more money that she started with, she would fire him. She wanted to contribute to worthy causes that would help children, charities, foundations, and the like. I’ll miss her too, and my days of watching The View are over. I like Nicole Wallace, but I dislike Whoopie more.
Maybe Rosie was tired of Whoopi’s on air foulness.
I actually kind of get whoopie. She hates being on the stupid show because it is stupid and developed by the worst woman ever, barbara Walters. So she’s like if they want to continue paying me 5 million I’ll show up but I won’t pretend to care or like it. Honestly, I think I’d do the same thing.
FUCK YOU Microop for calling Barabra Walters “the worst woman ever.” and one more thing….FUCK YOU again!…
Gotta agree with you, Urethra. Barbara paved the way for women journalists and for all professional women .
I like Rosie O. also. Always have, and sorry to hear she may be leaving. But WHATEVER the show decides to do for a replacement PLEASE don’t bring Sherri back!! I cannot stand that woman.
Maybe Brandi will apply for the position. Think of the insight she could bring to the table with her Jethro Bodine education.
Oh, I bet Nene will put rumors out that they want her. In fact she will probably say they are begging her to come save them.
It’s only a matter of time….

Rosie has always been nothing if not entertaining and Whoppie is becoming a wet rag.
The baby was adopted in 2013 and is described as an “infant”? Did I miss something?
Hate every person in the current lineup. Have not watched the show except on the rare occasion that someone might melt down.
I used to love Regis and kelly Lee and then the view. Both shows blow donkies now. I’d rather watch golden girls reruns. Or Kathie Lee and Hodor.
Agree. I hate the View now. They are all clueless loud mouths. Rosie and Whoopi are nasty and bullish. I watch the nanny and Roseanna reruns along with Godlen Girls. I dont want to spend my day off from work watching their hostile working environment.
I thought infant were under two? That’s how it works on planes. Doesn’t it go, baby, infant, toddler? I don’t think the kid toddles yet.

Once it walks, it’s a toddler. But I kinda only think infant for the first six months. Then just baby. Then toddler. I could be wrong. But I think that’s how the clothes sizes go.
Oh wait. Newborn, infant baby toddler? I dunno.
I expect you to hate everyone. But Kathie Lee and Hodor made me laugh so hard I have to hate you even more.
Not really bothered by Rosie leaving since she never seemed really comfortable on the desk… JMO
They just need to stick a fork in it.
The escape clause in an employment contract usually favors the employer, not the employee (ask any real housewife). I can fire you for whatever reason I want, but you can’t quit. The last time Rosie quit The View her contract was finished. When she left her talk show in the 90s, her contract was up. When her show on OWN network was cancelled, she was fired. I find it unlikely that she could walk into the ABC studio one day and announce she’s leaving for family reasons without being sued for breach of contract. I think she is being quietly let go and her divorce and kids are a convenient reason for her leaving.
HMMMMMM…maybe. The View did say she will be back on from time to time.
On Sat, Feb 7, 2015 at 1:31 PM, Tamara Tattles wrote:

Or maybe she had a contract for a trial period. To see how she fared with viewers/cohosts this go-round and the family/health reason is a better way to say she’s leaving than that she’s not gelling with the others.
The shows a train wreck. Why ABC moved it from the Entertainment Division to News was ridiculous. The demographic of the View certainly doesn’t want any type of hard news at 11 in the morning. I noticed a few times when a discussion was getting heated, Rosie O would start to be vocal then all of a sudden, her hand would go up to her earpiece, as if she was told to reel it in, and she would stop talking. Definitely not the same Rosie O as before. It will be interesting to say the least what the next steps might be.
Rosie does’t wear an ear piece. She says it robs the show of spontaneity. Which it does.
I think only the moderator wears the ear piece. And they certainly never tell the ladies to tone it down. LOL.
On Sat, Feb 7, 2015 at 2:35 PM, Tamara Tattles wrote:

All of them wear earpieces. At least, that’s what Rosie intimated the first time she quit. She refused to wear one and told the others they should refuse as well. I don’t remember if they ever took her advice, nor who wears one now, but at one time, they all got prompts from producers on what to say.
They have spent a lot of time worrying about diversity when it comes to politics, skin color, and sexual preference. What they overlooked, and what the original charm of the show was is a wide view generationally. Elizabeth Hassawhatsits, B. Wawa, Joy Abraham, merdith Viagra and Ling Ling represented old, young and in between. THAT is what is missing now.
I agree, that’s why it has lost a lot of its audience/ratings.
I actually loved watching Rosie when she was on the View from 06-07. Even though I often disagreed with her politically, she was nonetheless entertaining to watch then.
But when she came back this fall, it felt like she was holding back all the time. I think she’s very uncomfortable with not being the moderator of a show which has contributed to her personality (or lack thereof) this season.
I really don’t know if the View can be saved now. It’s such a disaster and lacks the chemistry and spark it once had. Just my two cents.
The above states her health and family are most important. That leaves me wondering if she’s having more heart problems.
It would be so painful to have to share custody of the child they have together, especially if the ex leaves Miami. Maybe that was the cherry on top of the shitty View sundae.
To me the strangest part is what you mentioned, Tamara- why does Rosie always seem to get primary custody in her divorces? I found it particularly strange with Vivi since she is her ex-wife’s biological child. Also with the current baby, Dakota, it was mostly Michelle who wanted the child as she had none and Rosie already had four. Now all postings on social media seem to indicate that the baby primarily resides with Rosie. I’m dumbfounded as to the legal decision making that has gone into all of this.
Maybe it’s to keep all the SIBLINGS together?
@Audrey~ I believe Rosie gets primary custody of the children because the custody arrangement is agreed upon prior to the conception of the child. Keep in mind, the oldest child was adopted by Rosie when she was single and had not married her 1st ex-wife. I believe the 1st ex-wife adopted the next two children with Rosie before they married, and Vivie, the fourth child is Kelley’s biological child. Rosie is financially stable and very hands on with her children. I personally believe Rosie and her spouses have wanted to keep the specific details about the divorce and custody arrangement out of the paper, so their prenuptial agreement worked out all of that in advance.
Personally, I am sorry that Rosie Is leaving the View once again, especially under these circumstances. She showed courage to return to the scene of the crime where she was previously skewered on national tv by Donald Trump and Elizabeth Hassleback. She is leaving with her dignity and honor in tack which is far more than could be said about Sherri Shepard or Jenny McCarthy. She has been treated like a dark horse, and has not been given the freedom she needs to fully express herself. Her POV may not be popular, but conflicting viewpoints is what the show is supposed to be about. I wish her all the best in whatever she decides to pursue.
As far as the current host are concerned, I like Nicolle Wallace, but she interrupts like an incessant child and senselessly changes the direction of the topics. Sometimes she seriously needs a time out. I like Rosie Perez as well, but I am not sure if the viewers approve of her. I tolerate Whoopi, but she really grates my nerves at times by correcting the host and guest at every syllable. I believe Joy Behar is the likely former co-host to return to the View, which would boost their ratings and bring balance to the panel. We will see what happen on or after February 16, 2015. :/
Haven’t watched the view since the last two left. Rosie has a big old passionate heart but I rarely agree with her but that’s the whole point of this show. She doesn’t need the money. I admire her being a fierce Mama bear.
I think maybe the ex is making moves to take custody of the baby, and Rosie wants to make sure she doesn’t lose the child because she is working all of the time. I’m going to miss her I thought the View was doing better, especially when Whoopi was gone. They need Joy back because she can argue her point without getting mean, and always cracks a joke when things get too heavy. When Joy returned last week, she was upset because Nicolle was gone that day. But I think those 2 could bring intelligent opposing political viewpoints without getting loud and shrill like Hasslebeck did
