I keep watching to blog about The View but I really don’t think too many of you are watching it. I quit watching morning shows for awhile, and then I started taping a few of them to zip through in the morning in case anyone interesting is on. I started tuning back in to The View this season, and it’s been pretty horrible. Somehow the fact that it is trainwreck is making me want to tune in. Lately, I tune in to see who is actually going to show up to work.
Let’s review. On the new season, we got rid of Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, and added Nicolle Wallace, Rosie O’Donnell and Rosie Perez. This means we have Whoopi, Nicolle, and the two Rosies. I don’t think all four of them have been on at the same time for a full dozen shows. It’s been a last minute search for hosts pretty much every day. Mario Catone has hosted more consistently than pretty much anyone except Rosie O’Donnell who seems to always manage to show up for work. Rumors abound. Let’s break them down one by one.

Rosie Perez is fired. Variety, who is usually in the know about such things, has been claiming that Rosie Perez was fired after just four months on the show. Why? Because she is dumb. You have to be somewhat witty and quick on your feet to have what seems like a simple conversation on hot topics. Let’s just say that Rosie does not have that breadth of knowledge. So Perez took a month off to be in Larry David’s Broadway production of Fish in the Dark. After the rumors of Perez’s firing were leaked, Latina groups lost their shit over The View firing the only permanent Latina host for being dumb. She was literally hire for being Latina. The entire show was casting for a republican, (Nicolle) a Latina (Perez) and comedienne (O’Donnell.) So now, The View has decided they can’t fire the Latina or they will appear racist and piss of the Latina viewers. So it appears she was fired, and is now returning on February 3rd where everyone will pretend she was never fired.
Whoopi and Rosie O are at odds. I don’t believe this one at all. Much was made over a heated conversation very early on in the new season about racism. It was basically Whoopi against EVERYONE else on the panel including Nicolle, Perez, O’Donnell and guest host Laverne Cox. Whoopi said that you have to be black to know what racism is. O’Donnell barely said a word until the very end when Whoopi let that comment fly. Whoopi and O’Donnell seem to get along fine for the most part and I don’t believe the rumors that Rosie is pissed she is not the moderator. She was not hired to be the moderator, they already had one. That said, Rosie is way better as a moderator than Whoopi as she has shown repeatedly. Which brings us to the next drama.
Chairgate. Recently, Whoopi has been out with a ruptured disk. She was in the hospital for a few days leaving only Nicolle and Rosie (and the ever available Mario) to hold down the fort. When Rosie came back everyone had ergonomic chairs because Whoopi needed that accommodation for her temporary disability. The powers that be, hated the way the chairs looked. The next day, the old chairs were back, but Whoopi refused to go out without her ergonomic chair. It’s a live show so there was no time to argue. The next day, Whoopi was home resting again. And again the next day. Now they seem to have compromised by putting some sort of purple covering on Whoopi’s chair. It’s ridiculous. The chair has become more interesting than the show.
Rosie O’Donnell hates reality show participants. This one I believe. Whoopi isn’t overly interested in them either. Back in the day, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd were tasked with all things reality. Since they are both gone, The View has had way fewer reality folks on the show. I’m down with this trend.
Anyway, I mostly just wanted to talk about #Chairgate and see if I am the only one tuning in just to see who shows up to work. The past couple days Nicolle has been out sick. If two people of the four show up, it’s like a Christmas miracle.
Am I the only one obsessed with this?
This seems like an interesting train wreck. I really want to go back and see how Chairgate has played out thus far.
I miss Hasselback. <3
I hope you miss how crazy stupid she was right? RIGHT?! 😉
Sherri Shepherd made her appear relatively intelligent.
Don’t get me started on that crazy ‘the world is flat and only a few thousand years old, evolution is a lie’, woman.
Oh I am excited. I finally have time to respond to one of your fabulous posts during the discussion, not three days later. First, I avoid watching the View because of exactly what you said in your intro. Regarding the rumours about in-fighting, the media always has to pit women against one another, God forbid they take over the world because they had a chance to get together and discuss important issues. They can have a debate and still be friends, really, men do it all the time.
Another reason I do not watch it is because they tend to talk over each other and attack. To me they are not discussing but clucking. Ya, I said it. This show, to me, perpetuates the stereotype that women cannot have an intelligent, well rounded discussion without turning into a bunch of hens. Bleck. I assume the producer is in the corner saying okay, now you yell, no now you cut them off. Each season there are two co-hosts that cut everyone off. Boring.
Now I have heard about chair-gate. This is so beyond ridiculous. The show is tanking and they choose to fight with one of the co-hosts about a chair. A CHAIR! They could be discussing more important issues like the stereo types of Latino people or Whoopie’s statement about racism. Let’s talk about that producers, not the fact that Whoopie is now sitting on Barnie’s lap. I know the producers didn’t create this discussion but their lack of insight sure shaped it.
Sadly, I think the show relies more on the female against female drama than what Barbara had initially envisioned – a show with women from all walks of life have lively discussions about important issues. I think the reality is that the show’s producers don’t even believe that this is achievable, so they keep sabotaging the show with the crap they keep producing.
Sorry if this was too long!
Good, let Rosie Perez work. Shit, they let Sherry’s ugly DUMB ass work all those years, and that cunt Elizabeth. I don’t watch the show, I’ve seen it several times. It’s annoying how they talk over each other and the last time I watched, Elizabeth was on and I cannot with her. I do wish I had seen the episode when she tried to come for Kathy Griffin (a white Wendy Williams but worse lol) for talking about her “friends” (delusional ass). Kathy DGAF, she was like “bring it bitch!”, and got in that ass. I heard about it on the Howard Stern show.
@Whoopi’s Pic
Whoopi’s skin looks damn near flawless! Miss Ceiley lookin good, and not a day over 50! She may not have any eyebrows, but like D.L Hugely, she makes up in hair what she lacks in eyebrows lol
@Rosie Perez Pic
She STILL lookin good, of course. Wonder if she’s still choreographing for the stars. She definitely is still acting ([email protected] Express & Nurse Jacky) with her crazy ass….Mookie!
@Who They Should Bring on
They need to bring back Joy. Keep Rosie Perez. Get Claudia Jordan, Demetria McKinney, Funky Dineva, Omerosa, Judge Mabeline Ephriam, Judge Lynn Toler, Kathy Griffin, Judge Marylin Milian, Judge Hatchet, Courtney Love, Judge Karen Mills, and Snookie. Just rotate ALL of them through out the month. Now THAT SHIT!? I wouldn’t miss a show.
If Funky Dineva, Derek J, and Miss Lawrence could cycle through there and have Mario a permanent host I wouldn’t either. The show needs that sass and Funky Dineva always has insightful posts whether you agree with him or not. Then they could do the reality show stars and throw shade on them the whole time. Those 3 would actually give reality D listers the business too, unlike Andy.
Chairgate? I’m still not over Shoegate. First Whoopi’s shoes now her chair. I can’t stand it.
I’ve tried to watch the show this season, but it’s just too boring.
When the show started, it was really groundbreaking. Unfortunately, too many other shows have now emulated their formula and it is no longer fresh (i.e. The Real, The Talk, The Chew, The Fab, The Doctors, etc). It’s time to end the show.
I recorded Rosie’s first show on The View, because I like her and wanted to see how she’d do. She was god awful. She seemed very afraid and like her voice was trembling. Add to that, Whoopi and the other Rosie’s domineering personality and I just turned the station.
I miss Hasselbac and Jenny! Bring them back!
Rosie O is so intolerant of of other peoples views that she has completely turned me off to the show. It used to be a great show with intelligent women that was enjoyable to watch. It is like Time Magazine slowly evolved into Star Magazine.
Isn’t that shy they originally got rid of lkorsak?? Rosie O’s intolerance towards other people’s view? These view girls are boring!
The problem is whoppie! There I said it. I love her in the movies but she is a god awful moderator. Last week with Rosie O’donnell as moderator, the show was great. Also I love nicole Wallace, she knows the inside baseball on politics, which is really cool!
Whoopi’s behavior has gotten more and more out of hand. She constantly argues with whoever is in her ear piece and often just rips it out of her ear in a fuck you fashion. I agree Whoopi is the problem. Rosie O is fine as long as she doesn’t get stuck on politics for the whole show. She’s very one note “Republicans are the problem” and doesn’t leave much room for exploring the issues in Congress beyond party lines.

Can we please replace whoppi, and Rosie with Bill Rancic and Terry Crew.
Thanks TT for this discussion.
I agree – I don’t watch that often anymore but I really enjoyed it with Rosie O as moderator when Whoopie was out. The show flowed better, it was even a little funny, and the other hosts seemed more relaxed. I’m really disliking Whoopie more and more as time goes on, She (Whoopie) seems perpetually irritated and ill tempered – maybe it was Whoopie that needed to be replaced.
Yes, Whoopi Goldberg may as well be holding a huge sign that says “I hate the fucking job more than life!” every day. Everyone else despite their own issues that make them not that watchable seems to at least be happy to be there.
When MARIO CATONE is starting to be appealing, we have a problem.

So true about Whoopi… And I think she is beyond opinated and downright argumentative. Rosie is way more humble and tolerant this time around.
Time for The View to end. It really is boring and since Whoopie’s back injury has anyone else noted that she is high. She admitted to being stoned when she does the show but now perhaps, a few pain pills?
I have been recording the show too to see if they talk about anything interesting. So far. No.
Whoopi disappeared for 2 days after her brief return, not bc of the chair, but bc she was heavily drugged ( by her own admission) and incoherent. Rosie admitted on Twitter that she was ‘stunned’ by Whoopi’s behavior. I agree that Rosie Perez is not intellectually up to the task. I also agree that Rosie O. is intolerant of views that her opposite of hers.
Rosie P. is smarter than Sherri Shepard and look how long they kept her.
Rosie was back today and seem somehow “smarter” maybe she was prepped during her month off “for the play”

I used to watch The View back in the days of Meredith, (The Best Moderator), Joy, Star, Lisa Ling, & Barbara. Ever since Meredith left, & the other ladies, the show has gone downhill, imo, & I no longer watch.
Too bad because it was once a good show.
The show lost its appeal after Meredith left and the Star Jones wedding hype killed it for me. It was the filler before AMC. When Pine Valley left ABC, I quit watching network daytime TV. I’ll watch Star Trek and Dr. Who, and Gordon Ramsay on BBC America.
Love Star Trek
Btw: I have watched the show with these new ladies, however, there’s no real rapport, and they seem a little miserable.
Bill Geddie, the long time Executive Producer, also left “The View.”
@lauraannb~ I watched it back then too. Then after Meredith left it just started to become a screaming match and all of them trying so hard to be funny that their poor guests could not even finish a sentence. I stopped watching a long time ago. I have tried to watch it a few times here and there, but after five minutes, I just can’t do it. I lose enough brain cells watching Real Housewives. 🙂 Stick a fork in it…its done!
I too unfortunately, have have been watching the train wreck to see who shows up everyday! It’s like a game of magical chairs! And I’m still pissed off about the “support” of bill Cosby by whoopi. Rosie O is too polarizing for me.
I know you love it when people who don’t watch the show comment!
I did watch one of the first to see if this new lineup was as bad as they said. Rosie P could read a teleprompter and she would try to interject an important fact she tried to memorize, but it sounded out of place, she quoted it wrong and her voice just trailed off at the end like she was hoping someone else would pick up on it and carry on. She would just look at the floor, the others just stared at her and Rosie O would change the subject. That was the theme of the one show I saw. I love Rosie P but she can’t speak. She’s claimed it was her accent that held her back but nope. There’s more to public speaking than speaking clearly.
Whats the blonde republicans name that worked with Bush? I really like her when she does a Letterman appearance. He must also because she’s been on twice since he announced his retirement last fall. She must be good on The View, right? I also caught a clip of the last time Whoopie farted on air. Maybe that has something to do with her chair!
Whoopi DID NOT FART on the air. There was noise, I think a light bulb exploded in the studio, and a surprised Whoopi acted like she farted just for the humor. Her name is Whoopi as in whoopi cushion.
LALALALALA IM NOT LISTENING! It’s funnier that she farted so that’s what I believe!
@ Urethra – love me a good fart joke.
ADMIN EDIT: I just can’t let this be a post about cute babies because I really want to spread vitriol all over the thread for no fucking reason.
I am blind to CUTE BABIES! CUTE BABIES! Because, I’m just miserable.
I stopped watching when joy left. When I heard Rosie O was gonna be on I tried again. Nicolle is a snore. The rest of the ladies don’t have any chemistry. I know Barbara wanted this to be a show to be ladies opinions but I have to be honest I like Mario on the panel better than Nicolle or Rosie P
Joy was on today! I used to love her but apparently she was holding back some extremely crude humor when she was a regular. Today she talked about her vaginal walls and had to be bleeped several times. Not the Joy I remember.

I really like Joy too, I used to watch her when she had her own show. I liked her a lot better than Pierce.
I miss Joy too. I could only ever stand watching Elizabeth on the show if Joy also was present. Their live debates on the show kept me tuning in..not Barabara’s whining and Whoopies random rants on racism.
Bring back Elizabeth ONLY if Joy is there to keep her in check.
I like Elisabeth and Joy the best when they were on the show together. I do not miss the Joy that showed up today. If they were going to bring Elisabeth back, (which sadly they want) they need a democrat who can match wits with her rather than just blaming Bush for everything since the American revolution. Chelsea Clinton would be good.

Chelsea would be a good addition. Especially for the international viewers. We actually know who she is.
I loved Joy, because she could always lighten up the mood with her quick wit. They brought her back today, I wish she would stay. I like Mario, Rosie O, and Joy..they have great chemistry.
I like Nicolle but she tries so hard to be middle of the road that she really doesn’t have much of an opinion.
I liked Jenny. She was a fast thinker, witty and seldom politically corrected, thank goodness.
Really didn’t like Hasselbeck, no sense of humor.
This season there is no chemistry between the ladies. Blah!
I thought Jenny brought the show down…stopped watching when she came on. I remember her from a MTV show back in the 90s, where she acted like a loud mouth smartass. What else is she known for? Dating Jim Carey and posing nude? She is absolutely beautiful, I’ll give her that, but I could never take her seriously. Just like I would never take Kim Kardashian seriously if she became a host on the View, nor would I be interested in her opinions.
The show is horrible. First of all, they need to fire Rosie Perez. She adds nothing because she lacks not only an education, but also basic knowledge. She cannot contribute to the discussion in a meaningful way. As for the “Latina” groups that are defending her, they are vocal Puerto Rican groups based in New York that do not have national clout. Why would they defend somebody who is embarrassing to watch? As somebody else said, there is more to communication than speaking clearly. Fire her.
The other big problem is Whoopi. In what universe is this flatulent woman qualified to moderate a discussion of current events? I was done with her when she said that what Roman Polanski did wasn’t “rape rape.” Fire her.
As somebody else said, Rosie O’Donnell is OK as long as she doesn’t get stuck on politics. She also needs to learn how to tolerate a different point of view without losing emotional stability.
Nicolle Wallace is OK. At least she has an education, can communicate clearly and maintain her composure. At least she’s not flatulent.
The real problem is that they have too many uneducated women. When the show started they had a lawyer, a journalist from 60 Minutes, a journalist from ABC News, a comedian who was a former teacher, and Debbie. They all had college degrees. They need to return to that.
Starr Jones was educated, we see how far that got her. For one to gossip, they don’t need a college education to talk about “Hot topics”, when the subject is Donald Trump, or one of the Kardashians. I think that Perez’s problem is that she does not articulate herself very well. She has a heavy accent, which has improved since she first came on the scene years ago, remember how high and annoying it was?
Star lost her job once she lost weight and Barbara and Joy could no longer look down on her.
I never thought Rosie Perez sounded or came off as stupid on the air.
Not knowing who Nicole Wallace was before she joined the View, I like her a lot now, and I appreciate her perspective and stories from working inside the White House & the McCain campaign. Plus her Sarah Palin stories are hysterical!!!!
Rosie seems sedated a lot this time around on the View. Today Joy Behar was back to guest co-host, and I miss her presence, opinions, & humor.
The show is a MESS since Barbara Walters retired, though she has been on once or twice.
Whenever I watched with Rosie Perez on I could see how people perceived her to be dumb when she wasn’t. Her issue is that she spoke very slow, used filler words like ‘ummm’, and never spoke too eloquently. I’m sure over time she got a bit better, but she was hard to listen too especially in the early days.
A show like this needs quick witty women who could speak with a mouthful of marbels. Perez doesn’t strike me as that type of woman.
I agree Micheal. I always thought she looked very nervous too.
Sarah Palin, where to begin….The folksy Ann Coulter with half the brain. Glad Nicole Wallace is there to show that it is women such as Condolezza Rice, Mia Love, Mary Matalin that Republican/practical libertarian women admire. I would love for pro choice Barbara Bush to give her honest opinion on Sarah Palin. Mary Matalin could be great, she has managed a twenty something year marriage with James Carville. I didn’t say it before but glad you are feeling better, this has been a terrible year for illness. Love all your AHS and I saw your “who wore it better” Nene wig meme all over, I felt so cool, like hey I know him!
OMFG people that incident WAS NOT WHOOPI FARTING. She talked about it the next day on the show. It was a light bulb popping in the studio. And oh by the way everybody FARTS. I just let one rip. PRRRRRRRRRR
Gross. Open a window down there.

I assumed I was going to hate Nicole Wallace because of her former employment, but have actually come to like and respect her – although not her political views. She seems fair, reasonable and respectful without shrinking away from what she thinks. Much, much, much better than Hasselback. And really how can you not like someone who laughs at Sara Palin. And she should know.
I started watching the “View” again after they got rid of Sherri & Jenny. I like Rosie O the best, because she is so controversial & opinionated. Don’t care for the blonde, I have no idea who she is, nor do I want to know. Whoopi is the same as always, and I like Rosie Perez, I read her book, and she had a very interesting life, and she has a lot of credits to her name, from being a dancer on Soul Train, starring in Spike Lee’s “Do the right thing”, “White men cant jump”, and others. She was the choreographer for the “fly girl’s” (Jennifer Lopez was a fly girl) on “Living Color” and I thought her book was very well written. The last thing I would is call this woman dumb.
pretty sure rosie P’s book was mostly ghost written. (i like her and read it, too.) i wouldn’t hold that book up as proof of her intelligence.
Joy and Mario were the reasons I quit watching years ago. I’ve seen it a few times and thought Whoopi was a PITA (surprisingly). Now, every time I consider tuning in Mario is there so I don’t. His voice makes me want to throat punch him.
He’s actually not so bad. I would never consider watching him, if he were solo, but he’s much funnier than Whoopi or Rosie O.
I wonder if Whoopi has back problems from wearing those ridiculous HIGH HEEL shoes that she sports on the VIEW?
These women on the View (primarily Rosie and Whoopi) are insufferable narcissists. They are unable to have a open and respectful dialog. This comes from years of people coddling them. It makes for a crappy show. I don’t know what they were thinking hiring Rosie Perez. Her voice is grating.
At what point do they start hiring interesting and intelligent people instead of B and C list celebs who think that everyone thinks they are brilliant? The whole show is an embarrassment.
It is clear Rosie is annoyed with Nicolle. I don’t blame her…she isn’t very prepared for the hot topics, doesn’t act like she deserves to be there, and at times doesn’t listen during her interviews because she’ll ask a question that the person already explained. That being said, Rosie could do a better job hiding her disgust.
This show is on its last leg.
Personally I think Rosie O wanted Nicole to be a co-host because she has all the dirt on Sarah Palin and Nicole can’t stand SP either. It’s an aggressive way to make a joke out of SP’s Republican agenda & idiocy to weaken her political strength, if she has any.
The View makes fun of her at least once a week. It was obvious week 1 with the new hosts that Sarah Palin was going to be DRAGGED on the show. The table needed a Republican to balance out the views and it was a double win for hiring Nicole & her arsenal of anecdotes.
Nicoles voice irks the s*** out of me
I never thought Rosie P came off stupid either — sometimes it was like she was taking a passive approach, almost like years of being an actor and being told to “not have an opinion” kept her from cutting loose. Every freaking time I see her, it makes me want to jump up and reenact her dance opener from Do The Right Thing. MOOKIE!!
Wish I’d seen those parts where they lit into Sarah Palin. And poor Whoopie has slid down the bad side of fame, believing everything she thinks w/o examining it.
The partner and I DVR it and watch it each night. We had nefer watched before this season, but the combination of Whoopi and Rosie intrigued us and we got hooked. We really enjoy it, especially Nicolle Wallace (I’m agreeing with Uretha, so I guess The Gays Loving Nicolle is now A Thing). When they have good guest host (Laverne Cox was great, and surprisingly so is Naya Rivera)or when the four regulars are clicking, Hot Topics is really great TV. The discussions between four strongly opinionated and intelligent women are really interesting.
Naya Rivera, the who says that “ethnic people” don’t bathe? She’s gross and doesn’t belong on the show. The View has fallen so low. It’s disgusting now.
I really dislike Barbara Walters, I think she’d kiss anyones ass if they have money or throw parties she wants to attend even if they are dictators who commit genocide, so I haven’t watched in years. I’m convinced it has to better without her on some level just because she is gone.
BLASPHEMY…. I won’t tolerate your level of ignorant & blind Barbara hate.
Barbara the serious, pioneer female journalist? She has my respect.
I remember her with Joe Gargiola on the Today Show. I admire her.
Good Lord! Give Whoppi her damn chair! Who cares? And I really hope they follow thru with Rosie’s firing, shes horrible.
Agreed. If they had not made the chair an issue, no one would care. Your workplace is required to accommodate a disability. Trying to make her sit in those weird ass fugly chairs with no leg rests was despicable. And I am not a Whoopi fan on The View. I like her on other things but she is VERY miscast on The View.

I used to watch this coz I had no choice…it was this or nothing. I didn’t have cable & it was the most interesting out of the other 2 stations that I got. I’m having a hard time listening to Whoopi though this season. (And I have cable again) I can’t quite put my finger on it but her personality seems to have changed. Her defense of Bill Cosby was odd to me (the things she said about the women) and I actually feel like she’s turning into a reverse racist. Just MHO….
Let’s face it, the show is now too boring and it’s done.
I was a loyal watcher of the view for years. I am so disappointed the show is going south so fast after Barbara Walters left. I used to really love whoppi as a moderator. She always seemed to be fair and let the other ladies talk. Now she is over powering. She does most of the talking and doesn’t like when people won’t agree with her. She thinks the view is now the whoppi show. Well guess what. Whoppi had her own chat show and it failed. Enuf said.
Rosie O’Donnell did seem better as the moderator when whoppi was gone. She seems handle that spot more seemlessly and didn’t seem like a diva. She let everyone speak which was a nice change from whoppi dominating. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t like roses o.
Nicole Wallace’s voice drives me nuts. Besides that her lack of knowledge of pop culture is disarming as the dam show deals a lot with it.
Sorry Latinas, Rosie Perez does come off as dumb as a box of rocks. She is flat and not funny. I was dissapointed. She seems like a colorful lady so I figured she’s have a lot to bring to the table.
Finally I am a big fan of Mario cantone. He is funny quick and breaks the ice if the topic becomes to heated. Let’s bring him in as a regular Co host until the view ship sinks.
OMG!!!! I thought I was the only one who thought:
1. The chair thing has been CRAZY!
2. Rosie P. is the stupidest human on daytime tv! And that’s saying A LOT!
3. I didn’t like Sherry S. (she was vacuous ) Or Jenny M. (With all her anti-vaccine drivel, she is DANGEROUS)
4. I thought Rosie O was going to bring a much needed point of view about lesbianism and alternative life styles and be more Dem then the Republican leanings she showed.
May I ask your opinion on Sherri Shepard and the baby issue? I am disgusted that she feels no responsibility toward the child and surrogate. The gold digging groupies are after athletes all the time, we expect them to take care of their children. i don’t care if this is not a biological child, she is responsible for that baby coming into the world.

I have been watching it for the same reason. It reminds me of watching the last days of PTL with Jim and Tammy Faye Baker in the 80’s.
I tried to watch this year as well. Like every one else here, it quickly turned into a snooze fest for me. I hate shows which pitch one woman against another just for the sake of argument. For many years the show was known for it’s great banter, witty come backs and two-sided political arguments/discussions. All that is gone. No reason to watch anymore.
