SAG Awards: What Do You Think Of The Winners?

January 26, 2015 by tamaratattles 26 Comments

SAG
The SAG Awards were last night and if you are like me you did not watch them. That doesn’t mean we can’t still debate who should have won.  I’m of the (probably unpopular) opinion that Viola Davis should not have won for How To Get Away With Murder.  I love Viola Davis. I think Viola Davis is brilliant in her role. However, if you have ever watched Orphan Black, where Tatiana Maslany plays a ton of different clones, there is really nothing and no one who could be more worthy of the Best Actress award. I’m sorry. There are four or five people in a scene at once, all of them very different and they are all Tatiana, and you completely forget about that while you are watching. It’s a great show.
I have no idea what Birdman or The Imitation Game is about. I’ll wait for y’all to enlighten me. I loved The Grand Budapest Hotel.
I think Homeland is so good it was just up against some really stiff competition. I’m also a huge fan of Shameless and Olive Kitteridge.

TT I am right with you. Tatiana is a beast in all of her characters. You actually forget you are watching the same person. She is bloody incredible. As I mentioned before in a previous post, Viola and that show lost me close to the end of last season. Everyone in that damn show annoys me. I was actually rooting for the murdered husband at one point. How sick is that. SMH.

The only reason I watched was to see Tatiana Maslany win. I didn’t really think she would, but I sure thought she deserved to win. It’s a shame more people aren’t watching Orphan Black. I love it an probably wouldn’t not have been aware of it if not for reading this blog.

Orphan Black is so good!! Always with the curve balls!! She does an amazing job with the different characters! I loved that scene when they were all dancing!!

Totally agree. On my opinion, Viola was amazing… Loved the scene where she improvised and took off the wig and let things ‘get real.’ But if you’re going to use the term “outstanding,” then Tatiana really deserves it. If not even just for the way she interacts with, well, herself! They should have at least got a special effects mention or something, if that was a category…

Haven’t been to the theater in years for me one of films most iconic momments Bo Radley behind the door. Baby Robert Duvall said it all with only his eyes.
Harper Lee went there at a time when the majority of ‘merica believe otherwise.

I don’t know half these movies so I need to catch up!! Glad that House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black won! What the hell??! Game of thrones was beaten by downtown Abbey? I guess that show is really good!

Tatiana Maslany is so great in Orphan Black. Much as I like all the nominees in her category I’d happily have swapped Julie Margulies and Maggie Smith — who seem to be nominated every year — for maybe Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) and Eva Green (Penny Dreadful).

My complaint with awards season is that for the most part the different awards all nominate the same people, not so much because over their over whelming talent as because of group think. In my opinion, a show like Downton Abbey was nominated because it’s a class production in their eyes, whereas a Black Sails, or Vikings — equally strong, if not stronger ensembles — must assuredly do not.

I think the show, The Fall, should have been nominated with best actress going to Gillian Anderson.

I am in LOVE with her character, Stella. We need to see more real strong women like her on TV. God, to see her give some gender equality comeuppances to supposedly modern open minded men is poetry in live action.

For those that have Netflix go ahead and binge watch. You won’t be disappointed. It also features Jamie Doran as the serial killer Gillian hunts down. He is the guy that will play Christian Grey in Fifty shades of Grey coming out next month. Based on his performance in The Fall, I understand the obsession with him. I wasn’t going to go see the movie but after watching this show my sister and I are getting advance tickets.

Have to agree with everything you said. Season 1 was mesmerizing. Heard season 2 just came out and have been waiting for a good time to binge watch.

Oh yeah, season 2 is six episodes. I wasn’t going to binge but it is that good. Episode six is an hour and a half long.

I had to Google “Orphan Black” to see if one person really played all those parts. That show is so intriguing. Tatiana should have won in my opinion.

I also wish Billy Bob Thorton and Matthew Mc. would have won in their categories.

You can clink the link in the post and go to my recaps. You might not want to read them if you want to binge watch ( which I highly recommend). She’s the curly haired blond, and several of the women and even plays a man realistically. You could just look at the pictures.

I have not seen any of the nominated movies, but I am happy for the winners of OINTB, Downton Abbey, House of Cards, Olive Kittridge and The Normal Heart. I think the wins were spot-on.

On a side note: is it just me, or has Joe Manganiello lost his charm, now that he is engaged to that Modern Family chick? His hotness has faded…maybe I’m just jealous I’m not on his arm?

I haven’t seen Orphan Black so I’ll take your word about Tatiana Maslany. With these award shows, you’re usually talking high level acting — sure there are exceptions, but (and not to be corny) the whole “it’s an honor to be nominated” kind of does apply. Of course, Viola Davis is an awesome actress, but industry politics plays a lot in these awards too — it could just be the case of more people knowing Viola and her work/knowing the show, so voting for her.

Downtown deserved the win. Claire Danes was robbed. Last night on Downton, Lord Grantham pulled a Teresa Guidice, in a well bred aristocratic way, but I knew he wanted to call Miss Bunting a prostitution whore.
I also thought Grand Budapest deserved the win, but have not seen Birdman.

I know Grand Budapest was popular, but I just didn’t like it, I actually bailed about halfway through the movie. Love Kevin Spacey but this season Peter Dinklage was phenomenal. I was shocked Bradley Cooper was excluded, when I saw him in American Sniper, you forget you are watching Bradley Cooper.

I loved Olive Kitteridge and thought Frances McDormand was mesmerizing. So happy she won. If you haven’t seen it (or read it), I highly recommend it.

Orphan Black will be on my next list for binge watching. Thanks for the recommendation!

First comment here ever:-) had to chime in on the movie thread…. Birdman is a quirky film about a washed up action film actor trying to make a comeback. Its unique because most of the film in done in just a few takes. The acting is so so good! Michael Newton and Emma Stone were awesome. Its definitely a must-see Indie film!

I have not seen Orphan Black so can not comment on Tatiana, but you are so right about Katie Sagal. I can not forgive House of Cards for Kevin Spacey’s upstate SC accent…..so so wrong. Snowballs chance in Hell he would be a SC politician. No kids, the same accent he used in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Matthew and Woody were both amazing and derserving in True Detective.

Haven’t seen any of those movies. I can remember as a kid seeing a preview for a movie and wanting to see it. My dad would always say, ahhhhh well it will be on tv in a couple of years…. lol now I hear myself saying it will be on dvd soon enough. We no longer have a “walk in” theater here…. only the drive-inn….. I’m a couch and pause kinda gal so will wait for dvd…. but curiosity is piqued about The Fall and ORINB…. here I come netflix
