Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Recap: Live and Learn

January 13, 2015 by tamaratattles 103 Comments

RHobh Cast

I’m afraid this episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills  is going to be boring. I’m predicting most taking the kids to college stuff with Yolanda and Kyle. Perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised. I’m not holding my breath.

Lisa Vanderpump

We begin in Lisa’s bedroom where she is on the phone with Max who has dropped out of music school and is working at SUR.  Lisa is upset by Max’s lack of ambition. She and Ken have been giving him a living experience while requiring him to work full-time.

It’s Ken and Lisa’s 32nd anniversary.  Ken has filled the house with roses and Lisa makes her usual anniversary sex joke. Max drops by to speak with his parents. Max points out he has no proof of insurance or registration on his car. Max has no work ethic and Ken and Lisa can’t handle it. Ken is pissed with him and walks off.  Lisa and Ken are willing to teach him the restaurant business but he needs to be motivate. It seems he was joking  about his lack of insurance just to get under their skin.  RHOBH Eileen Pink

Eileen Davidson

Eileen’s step sons moved in with Eileen and Vince when they were six and eight. They are now in college. Severin, one of the step sons friends I think , took Gigi Hadid to his senior prom. Eileen’s oldest stepson, Duke is in his senior year. Eileen went straight into acting and missed the college experience. It’s obvious Eileen loves her stepsons and her family

Kyle Richards

It’s time to take Alexia off to college.  She’s going to the University of Arizona. Kyle follows the Tuscon Police on Twitter. Kyle regrets not going to college.

The entire clan including Farrah are staying in a nearby resort promoted by Bravo. Alexia is getting an apartment because she was  not able to get into a dorm.

Kyle and Maurico are trying to figure out a budget for Alexia. They decide on $450 a week (all her basic expenses are paid for this is for food and incidentals) Kyle is not sure that is enough.  For a freshman in college. Kyle is worried about going through an airport by herself. She’s in college.  Kids do that at 10. My brother was flying solo internationally quite frequently in high school. It’s not rocket science. Helicopter moms don’t realize what a disservice they do to their kids.

Alexia has lost her voice. This is mostly because of the climate. I lose my voice every time I go to Vegas. Kyle has a break down leaving her. She can’t even bear to walk her to the limo taking her from the hotel to her new apartment. Mauricio is not holding up much better. They both cry after she leaves.

Yolanda Foster

Yo takes Bella to NYC to attend Parson’s School of Design. It appears she has purchased a Brownstone for Bella. Okay, it’s an apartment.  Yolanda is designing the interior and paying all of her expenses. The requisite collection of finger paintings is in place. It’s kind of a cute family tradition.

I do feel the need to point out that I do not have Chronic Lyme Disease, which sounds very debilitating. My health concerns are ongoing but minor in the grand scheme of possibilities. It’s all I can to some days to was a fork. Yet Yolanda who is constantly being hospitalized is well-groomed in full make-up looking beautiful and completely designing the apartment’s interior from top to bottom. This makes no sense to me.

Bella and Yolanda talk about her DUI. Bella gives her mom a sweet card and promises her there is nothing to worry about. Bella is very beautiful in a totally different way that Gigi is beautiful.

Brandi Glanville

Brandi is meeting with her attorney about Eddie’s overpayment of $114,000.  Eddie’s retirement account was the last thing to be spilt for just such an occasion. Should there be an overpayment, or an underpayment the retirement account would be adjusted to resolve the issue. This was the plan from the beginning. Eddie turned in a financial accounting indicating an overpayment of $114,000. Brandi did not turn in a financial accounting which means that Eddie’s will be the one the arbitrator uses in the division of the final joint asset (the retirement fund) unless she still has time to turn one in.  That’s the background. On the show, Brandi keeps referring to “her retirement account” she doesn’t have a retirement account at all yet. It’s currently still Eddies although he can’t touch it until this matter is resolved.  The problem is that Brandi is out earning Eddie at the moment.

Brandi has Kim and Jennifer and two of her gay friends over to watch Eddie and Leann’s reality show premiere and suddenly things turn into The People’s Couch, only we can’t see the show.  But if you missed it, you can read my recaps here. It was a pretty cute show. Heavily scripted, but cute.  Brandi says the only reason she is watching is to see if the boys are on. She knows they can’t film them without her permission and if they had the boys would have told her. So we all know she’s just curious. I can’t blame her for that. Everyone points out  how many times they talk about her.  You know, as she is filming her reality show talking about them. In fact this is the second scene in the episode about Eddie.

As they are watching, Leann refers to the boys in some way and that pisses Brandi off. In her talking head she says Leann is a cunt ….tree singer and the still had to bleep the cunt part out. Ridiculous. Brandi says she wants their show to succeed so that he has income to share with her. But Leann needs to leave her kids names out of her mouth. Um, no she doesn’t they are her stepsons who love her.  Brandi claims that right now she only gets $1,000 a month child support. I do not believe her.

I'm laughing all the way to the bank!
I’m laughing all the way to the bank!

Lisa Rinna

Lisa is filming a movie with Penn Jillette and Harry Hamlin  called Director’s Cut. Lisa is going to play herself with no script. Harry is playing himself playing a cop.

Lisa is hosting a charity party for breast cancer. It’s a costume jewelry line called Stella Dot. Lisa is worried that the ladies will not like costume jewelry. I’m partial to real yellow gold.  I do not like fake gold jewelry. I love, love, love funky ethnic beaded jewelry that is not trying to be something it is not. Bold signature necklaces, huge strands of dyed seed pearls, anything made locally when traveling.  But I’m not wearing something that is going to change my skin color while it is trying to pretend to be gold.

NEXT WEEK:  Brandi is back to being inappropriate and trashy. Kim and Lisa Rinna begin to butt heads, Gigi’s modeling career takes off and Bella gets her portfolio together, Kim and Kyle butt heads and Kyle is worried about Kim’s sobriety, and Kim leaves a poker party at Kyle’s with Brandi and as they are leaving, there is a physical altercation between Brandi and Kyle.

I know I’m gonna get slammed, but I loved this episode. Of course, my only girl is in the throes of acceptance/rejection letters now. I raised two stepsons as my own (ages 5/7 now 30/32!), so I identified with that. You have to keep in mind, it’s all relative (the wealthy, and the not so wealthy)-Bella’s dad is a BILLIONAIRE. Her frame of reference, and that of her mother’s is totally different from those of us taking loans, or getting sheets for the dorm at Target. I can’t fault her. I think Yolanda is trying to teach her daughters to respect what they have. So contrary to other parents on the RH series. Evidently hormonal, I really cried at the Yolanda/Bella time on the bed, and when Sophia said goodbye to her father! Again, one main reason I watch is to be treated to the lives of others. (with staff!!) I can hardly wait however, for more low down behavior from the country cousin Brandi, next week!

I thought the Richard sisters stuck together? How is it that Kim loves Brandi, while Brandi hates Kyle?

I think Kim realized that Kyle has often publicly doubted her sobriety and is quick to throw her under the bus. And some of the things from the limo scene have stuck in her mind, no matter how much she wants to forget. Yes, I have sisters. No, we do not act like everything can be forgiven so we can threaten, bully or otherwise treat each other badly or permit our friends to do so.

(“I can’t believe your sister Kyle would do that to you”!) Misery loves company & Brandi’s the most miserably person on the show.

$450 a week, not enough? For a college student? Expenses? Here in the real world, (Midwest) minimum wage is still under $8 dollars an hour. People work 2 jobs to get by, live frugally, go without medicines, visits to the dentist, etc., etc. I have no compassion to Kyles plights.

She does wear great earrings, though.

Kyle really needs to leave the bubble (Beverly Hills) at least one time in her life! That would probably be too cruel though. Sort of like hand raising a wild animal then just leaving it in the wild one day with no skills!

$450 a week when she has no expenses? I know I’m old and went to college years ago, but I got $500 for the entire *semester* from my parents — I lived in the dorms and had the meal plan. The $500 a semester was for the occasional movies and pizza with friends.

And if at 18 Alexia can’t go through the airport by herself then Kyle has failed as a mother because she’s basically raised an imbecile (and I mean that as a medical term).

Can’t help but compare and contrast Yolanda and Kyle taking their children to college to Kim doing it last season. Buying realistic items, bedding, storage and comfort and dropping her off at the dorm like a normal freshman. Yes, lots of tears but there were expected co-dependency issues.

It isn’t like her daughter has never flown before. That actually happens to some kids when they go away for college. They never got to travel that way before. Kyle’s daughter has probably been in an airport every few weeks of her life. If she isn’t observant enough to figure it out, and I’ve no doubt she is, she probably will flunk out of school. I think Kyle is showing her own ignorance and insecurity. I’d personally be more worried about the crime at schools now days.

Kyle is dreaming that she would have been smart enough to be a lawyer.

Watching these scenes of Yolanda setting up her kids in luxe NYC apartments, I just have to shake my head and roll my eyes – all the while remembering the ratholes I lived in while I was going to NYU. It’s hard not to feel a bit jealous/angry, but then I remember that although I hated it at the time, it forced me to grow up real fast – and now, years later, those struggles are remembered as some of my happiest times.

    1. Kyle cries
    2. Kyle has a break down
    3. Kyle whines/bitches/emotes
    4. Kyle’s bra strap shows
Or every time Brandi acts like a drunk asshole.

I dunno, I had to work my butt off through college with zero help from my parents. Not even letting me stay with them rent-free (even in high school). When I have kids, I’m going to do what I can to make sure their main focus is their schoolwork so they don’t drop out of high school to work like I had to. Not saying they shouldn’t have to earn it at all, but if they’re really dedicated and motivated I would make sure there are as few distractions as possible so they don’t take a decade to finish like I did.

Apparently, Mauricio didn’t do well in math. I had to back up and listen to this again to be sure, but he said that meals should cost about $30 a day so that would be $400 a week (his math, not mine). Then he added on another $50 for manicures and stuff.

Actually, YOU suck at math. Most residence hall buffet style economy meal plan type places- which I doubt these girls are going to frequent, I’m just giving you the cheapest option, are about $10 per MEAL. Not to mention the very likely possibility that they will be pounding $6 Starbucks and energy drinks, blah blah blah every day.

Rinna is so funny but I feel like she may be playing her perkiness up for the camera. Either way, I love her. Also a good girl at heart.

Kyle is so dramatic and clearly took no tips from what the college tells parents how to handle their kids going away and how to stay strong and what to tell them.

Uggg Kyle and her crying. How would she handle sending a kid into the military? Boo-Hoo, your kid is going to college and has to live on $4-5 hundred a week. I’ll have to ask what my boys made in the service, but you can bet it wasn’t anywhere near that much. At least Yolanda’s kids work and I bet they can go to the airport and maybe even know which machine is the washer and which is the dryer.

Just started Brandi’s 1st book, Eddie is a jerk and I believe the $1000 a month.

I don’t think raising independent children, or directing them toward a career ever crossed her mind. That really is what of being a good mother is. I could never read the Brandi book(s), even if they were given to me. And yes, Eddie is a jerk, but talk about exhausted story line…

I went to college in the early to mid 2000s. My parents gave me $150 per month as an allowance. That was for occasional meals off-campus, subway fare and toiletries. By my second year, I had to get a job and didn’t get an allowance from them. So to have $1,800 per month is crazy!!! Must be nice.
Brandi’s warm-cold relationship with Leann is more than old. One minute they’ve made up and she says she’s not talking negatively about them anymore. Then the next minute she’s calling her a cunt-tree music singer. What gives? It’s time to move on. She’s become so unlikable that I don’t have much, if any, empathy for her anymore. He cheated and left you…it’s time to turn the page in your life’s story.

I know there are a lot of rich people here, but for most of us, if we had $450 every week and all the essentials were paid for we’d feel rich. Think about it. No bills at all. Nothing. Free food in the cafeteria. and $450 for luxuries ? I’d stay in college forever.

Actually I did stay in college forever and I didn’t work either. But I didn’t get that kind of cash from the parents.

Honestly, besides shopping I really wouldn’t know how to spend that much money a month on luxuries. I mean how many new outfits will a college student purchase a month. Having almost 2K per month in disposable income would classify you as rich in my book. Times have a-changed!

I had to make due with a couple a hundred a month back in the 80s….it actually was more than enough. I was always gobsmacked that a friend of mine that lived in the next dorm room had to struggle to get by on $5,000 a MONTH…yes, you read that right. She was a Jordanian princess and was always broke as could be by the end of the month. I used to buy burgers for her at McDonalds.

I actually enjoyed this episode. Did Yolanda really not know who her daughter went to Prom with?? weird.

$450 a week for groceries…geez. It was funny to watch Kyle and Mauricio try to establish a budget for their daughter. And why was she not able to live in the dorm?

I can relate to the sending kids off to college. I have a little helicopter parent hiding in me as well…but I cried after they left, not in front of them. 🙂

The ongoing commentary about Yolanda’s “fake illness” that she could not possibly have because she looks so glamorous and put together and productive, has grown incredibly boring. As someone who has personally struggled with an undiagnosed, rare, chronic, degenerative condition my whole life, my diagnosis was impeded by the fact that I was young, attractive, and could put myself together for doctor appointments, so I didn’t “look sick”.

Yolanda has routine staff, filming staff, and only films on a certain schedule, not to mention that she can afford things I can’t, like IVIG therapy, plasma exchange, IV saline and glutathione infusions- things that are generally proven to refresh, detoxify, and improve MOST chronically sick people. It is completely plausible for her to put herself together enough for filming and trips with her husband, but also rest during large amounts of unfilmed, regular life.

I don’t know if she has post Lyme infection, CFS/ me, or WHAT is wrong with her, and I do not even particularly like Yolanda, but I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt, because I am painfully aware of how much it sucks to have to prove yourself to be sick, because you can paint on a smile for mixed company.

Invisible illness is a real, horrible thing, which I know you understand, but maybe the wine makes you forget. You’re lucky you can drink wine. I might be a little high strung in this post, because all the phone stuff I used to be able to eat and drink makes my sinuses and throat swell up now. So you’ll have to cut me some slack. But you don’t look sick dot com, for those of you who care to read more about invisible illness.

Congrats on painting on a smile. Good on you. When was the last time you flew cross country and set up an apartment from top to bottom while directing every step? How often do you go out for drinks with your friends or cook meals for your husband or go out to dinner with your husband or go to the opening of every envelope in town or fly around the globe to take care of your parent? Or scuba dive off yachts, or traipse around the Spanish country side, direct your daughters modeling careers? Or pick lemons from your orchard 300 STAIRS from you back door and walk back up them, or complain not to be invited to stand in 115 degree heat for hours so you can give a fake speech…..

        I could go on.

I do think Yolanda may exaggerate her “chronic illness” – but really I have no idea – I can’t imagine she would just make it up and perpetuate it for no reason. I’m pretty sure she has admitted to improving, just not being 100%, and the bulk of her SEVERE illness being before she joined the show.

I just think she’s always been in motion, and continues to through not feeling well or at least 100%. Would it make her feel better if she DIDNT do those things, and just moped around? If you’re incredibly fit and incredibly healthy, and have access to both holistic and conventional medicine that the majority of the population doesn’t – it’s just not going to affect her the same it would the average person.

Please do go on, Tamara. You clearly enjoy some level of visceral catharsis via mocking and questioning Yolanda’s true health in contrast to her on- camera activity level. I’m not quite sure why it’s fine to accuse Yolanda of Munchausen/ hypochondriac behavior, but God forbid anyone criticize Aviva’s mental health? They’re both rich, so what’s up with the selective empathy? I don’t like either one of these women, but I’m still able to empathize with both of them.

If you are indeed asking me whether I have the kind of David Foster wealth to literally engage in all the activities you listed above, I assure you I do not. But if I had the money and staff she does, I’d do every single thing on the list, and I’d follow my strict diet and med schedule exactly to the tee so that I could enjoy every precious minute not confined to my house.

I like to hope I wouldn’t make bizarrely rude public comments to people, such as Yolanda did to Lisa, but who knows? None of us is perfect, clearly, and we are all capable of being nasty and bizarre on occasion. Yolanda is perfectly capable of having both nasty temperament AND post-lyme health issues, so pardon me if I don’t demand a copy of the spirochete chromatography of her borrelia or whatever medical evidence you might require in blog court.

I do have to thank you for blogging this crapfest so I haven’t had to watch it.

I mean Yolanda no disrespect and do not doubt that she is suffering from an illness.

I just don’t understand how she is capable of such extensive activity. It seem like so much work that it must be exhausting. That’s all. I didn’t mean to appear not to be sympathetic to her condition, it just seems …. amazing that she can do all of those things.

Wallace, you are most welcome. I’m very sorry you’re in a similar situation. Hang in there.

Yolanda is very fortunate to have a great deal of staff and support to help her look “normal” for the cameras. I know it takes me a minimum of 2 extra hours, and usually a good amount of spousal support, to get myself/ my kids ready to go anywhere on appointment/ activity days. I imagine her getting up at 4 am on filming days, to start her rituals, supplements, therapies etc, and resting every unscheduled minute in between, to fulfill her obligations enough to stay relevant. Like I said, she’s not my favorite, but I don’t begrudge her the wealth that permits her to live more comfortably with chronic illness.

I have to give it to you Love2Hate. You are absolutely right, and I have gone through exactly the same thing through illness, even from FAMILY, because I did not fit their criteria of what a “sick” person was supposed to look like. (Okay, granted they were in-laws, but STILL…) I cannot for the life of me understand what exactly what they thought I was supposed to look LIKE? Mussed hair? No makeup? IDK but it was silly, that they were begrudging me my appearance. Why anyone would possibly want to invent an illness is beyond me. Especially since they knew all the hospitalizations, tests, etc that I had to suffer through. People are strange what can I say. I personally think they begrudged me any “attention” or sympathy they thought I was receiving from others because #women….Heaven forbid we stand beside or support our own.

Thats true, thats what people say they watch the show for, to see the wealth. I think its all relative too , like the other poster said. Also, all famlies have their own way of doing things. I find that often these children of privilege do fine , and grow up awesome mostly, so long as they recieved love in their family.

Why do I get this sinking feeling Brandi is about to implode? Between the feud/groveling with Lisa, the wine throwing in Eileen’s face and the finger banging comments at a dinner party she seems to be headed in the wrong direction no?
She has such a giant chip on her shoulder about her cheating ex husband and boyfriend JR. I do think Eileen is right, a third party can’t come in and break up a strong marriage or relationship. In my humble opinion and personal experience only of course. For me the best part of this episode was the last few seconds when they show the teaser for next week’s episode! I’m sick of the crying moms sending their spoiled children off to college episodes, I can’t fast forward through them fast enough.

I could see Brandi imploding, she seems kinda bi-polar to me. I used to be friends with a woman who was bi-polar , and divorced the cheating husband, so she was alot like Brandi. Even though I felt bad for her , it became too scary to continue the friendship, and I began to fear that she would hurt me. I thnk the kind of outrageous snd unstable personality of Brandi, probably had alot to do with not having a strong enough marriage. Men like to feel the woman they choose to marry, has the inner fortitude to be who she is regardless of them. Not someone so fragile and ready to blow in a million pieces. And maybe just not wrapped tight.

Leanne has more money too, which helps mitigate the crazy. The thought occurs to me, he may not have wanted to be the provider anymore either, as financially , as they were in o ver their heads. Also, Brandi is a woman really attracted to only real good looking men, and alot of these tyoes are shallow themselves , and get hit on by other women all the time ,and have so many options. He may have thought it was great to marry the hot model, and thats as much thought was put into it at the time. I do feel bad for her.

I’m watching “The Other Woman” and there is a scene where Cameron’s character hands the driver a purse, and says “here’s a bag of vomit” and I wondered how many drivers for housewives have heard that.

I get bored with the going off to college story lines too. I was the last to go, so maybe that made a difference, but it was like dump me off and celebrate, and I had to work for extra cash and part of tuition. Getting nails done as part of the weekly allowance? How about taking advantage of the privileged education you are getting and stop worrying about your nails or hair.

I feel sorta bad for Max’, though. When parents idolize one of their children,:;and seem so enthralled with that one, like Lisa and Ken do with Pandora, its rather demoralizing for the other kids. Ive seen people do this (my mom was like this about the oldest in my home) , and I just want to shout”tone t down!”. Even the way Lisa says Pandora’s name or greets her and her husband ,is so fawning compared to Max, its unsettling. When that child is adopted, or is a half sibling its even worse I think for them. They know they’ll never measure up, so why try.

This was a boring episode. Such a waste of time. I don’t know why they keep harping on the college thing. It must test well in focus groups or something. I don’t give a shit. I guess it’s a big deal. But it’s not interesting to ME (which is all that matters). And the way these idiots act with their sobbing and breast pounding. I think it comes off disingenuous. These women leave ther families for weeks on trips and constant parties and whatever. How different could college be?

Way off topic. But… Everytime I see these off to college scenes, I think of the time we dropped my brother off at boarding school. We had just moved from Atlanta to Tripoli Libya. There was an American school there that I attended but it only went through grade nine. My brother was in tenth so he went to boarding school in Switzerland.
We’re two kids who have never been out of the country. Mom me and brother were driven up the alps to the school and my brother was basically kicked to the curb with little fanfare. On the way back down the mountain I was balling like the 6 year old girl that I was. My mother turns around and asks me what my problem was. I said I missed my brother. She seemed confused.
Suddenly, it hit her. She had just dropped her kid off like a pizza being delivered in a foreign country. She demands the driver turn around and go back. Where the requisite emotional farewell occurred.

    /end overshare.

I dont think its just pills, I can tell its alcahol too and the inhibitions and rage is loose! I thought Kim’s friendship with Brandi was very dangerous for her, and will cause her a ton of problems ,before it blows up in her face. I can see they have alot in common, and at first its all roses and mutual support, but two damaged, unhappily single women usually only end up going for the jugular vein on eachother. Its the old misery loves company and female malaise that does it in. I hate that it this way, but Ive seen it and been on the recieving end of it enough, to know its coming. Thats why they’ll start stirring shit with the other ladies marriages and lashing out at them.
