I’m confused. I thought there was a hearing today on something. I had commitments to keep in THE WORLD today (ugh) and was unable to keep up with things and sorting things out is problematic. To make matters worse Obama was in Pheonix today and there were protests and such so my “Jodi” list is full of reports on that. So I am going to just hit the highlights of the day.
In the main ring, we had testimony in front of the jury today. That’s right. The defense called a witness they somehow feel will provide mitigating testimony and the jury listened to the witness. That is almost like a normal trial. Except it wasn’t. The dude was the guy who didn’t want to testify using his real name. So they called him John Smith. Some tweeters speculated that the Amish style beard he was sporting was a fake. So it’s possible he used a fake name and wore a disguise. Because, Arizona. John Smith testified that porn sites had been accessed by the laptop and viruses were also present. He claims there were two different copies of the hard drive one in 2008 and one made in 2009. Apparently, the defense was only given the 2009 one That one had been modified in some way.
Juan’s first question on cross, “Dude, what’s your name?” Nurmi objects. Because, Arizona. Sidebar.
During the sidebar, over in ring three, the Arizona Supreme Court ordered that the secret transcripts of Jodi’s secret testimony be released to the public. I’m not sure how they all found out at that precise moment, but all hell broke loose. A recess was called. The witness left with Nurmi. And Jodi freaked out on Willmott. She REALLY thought she was going to get to have secret testimony. We should have the transcripts today or tomorrow. YAY!
Back in the center ring, everyone gets their panties unwadded and John Smith is back on the stand. He tells Juan his name is John Smith. Well that was anticlimactic. But things get very heated, very fast. Juan pointed out that the Mesa PD guy had to show Smith how to access the drive because he couldn’t do it. Nurmi blows a gasket and loud bantering between attorneys ensued. Martinez goes hard on the witness who seems to be a meek, polite sort of fellow. Calls him incompetent. Rapid fire questions. Does his YES OR NO? speil. Poor guy is probably pissing himself. Juan gets him to admit he was asked to testify for the first time after Christmas week.
Nurmi does a little re-direct and it is time to go home. So Smith is told to return on Wednesday. Apparently, there will be another witness on Monday. Or something. Tomorrow there is an afternoon hearing on the defense’s latest motion to dismiss. AKA giant waste of time.
The transcripts are four hundred pages. I think they are charging a dollar a page for them. I want someone to publish them online so I can read them this weekend. My early part of the week is already slammed next week.
