The Celebrity Apprentice Recap: Shilling “Food Product” is No Easy Task

January 5, 2015 by tamaratattles 72 Comments

celeb apprenticd Luvo

The Task: Create a bistro featuring a tasting menu of  Luvo food products.  Food products doesn’t sound very appetizing. They will be judged on brand messaging and overall experience.

The Teams

Infinity: Kenya Moore, Brandi Glanville, Kate Gosselin, Vivica Fox, Shawn Johnson (Olympic Gymnast), Leeza Gibbons, Jamie Anderson (Olympic Snowboarder)

Project Manager: Vivica Fox

The ladies get off to a bad start. Eventually, they have a slogan, “Love yourself, one bite at a time.”  The slogan was created by Kenya and Leeza. The ladies decide to play a variety of roles to show the variety of consumer types. I don’t get how that is going to work. It’s a bistro challenge not a commercial. Kenya casts herself as the beauty queen and Vivica kindly allows it.

Vivica’s phone is not working. Shawn has bad PMS. Vivica doesn’t care. Shawn and Kate shop for dishware and such. They seem to have all the time in the world while everyone else is rushing around.  They spend six hours shopping. Kenya is worried because no one seems to think they should rehearse their presentation. RHOA Kenya stop being so bothered

At the ladies presentation Brandi and Lisa are the flight attendants, Vivica is a (male) fitness trainer, each course is catered to a different demographic, fitness nut, pageant queen,

There was a problem with the service. This is microwaved food and there are only two microwaves. The kitchen is a mess. Food was delayed getting out. There are only about 12 “customers” and yet they can’t get it together. Kenya is testy with people. Particularly, Jamie. Jamie says to Kenya, “Who raised you?” Which probably left a mark.  This challenge was just weird. It  was confusing to me from the beginning. I really don’t know what the company executives wanted, but I’m pretty sure this was not it.

Vortex:  Ian Zierling (Beverly Hills 90210), Lorenzo Lamas, Geraldo Rivera, Terrell Owens (Football), Johnny Damon (Baseball), Sig Hansen (Deadliest Catch) Gilbert Gottfried (Comedian)

Project Manager: Terrell Owens

On Team Vortex, Terrell is giving Geraldo a long leash. Ian is still butting heads with Geraldo. The men seem to be thinking like they are making a commercial too. Perhaps they are both going to run one during the bistro? Gilbert is the go to guy on Vortex for entertainment.

Gilbert may actually be retarded. I don’t think this is all schtick. “Eat Lean. Eat Long. Luvo, for a delicious life” is chosen as the boys’ slogan.

Okay, the presentation is a narration of the tasting menu. I finally get it. So each member introduces a “food product” in the bistro and says a little something about it. Things are going along fine until Gilbert ad libs his dessert narrative and starts talking about how it is a miracle that a woman has had sex with him twice. It was bad. Really, really bad.

Celeb boardroom

The Boardroom

In my opinion both teams sucked. They might as well just flip a coin. We didn’t get to see the full presentation of the women’s team. It was seriously the worst challenge ever in the history of The Celebrity Apprentice. The women had the better slogan. That will probably save them.

Donald asks Vivica if she would like to have Geraldo replace a member of her team. She says yes. She’d love to replace Shawn because she doesn’t think that Shawn really wants to be there. Vivica tells Trump that Shawn “got her damn period” and checked out on her. Way to support a fellow female, Vivica.  Damn. Vivica is really going hard on Shawn. Donald asks Kenya her thoughts and she supports Vivica. Interesting.

Jamie tells Trump that Kenya is rude and unnecessarily mean. Kenya says that it was hectic in the back of the kitchen and she made a comment to Jamie that she took offense to. Kenya apologized by Jamie was not accepting of the apology. Kenya puts her reunion show talents to good use by talking over Jamie. Jamie says that her apology was not sincere.

The women won.

The execs specifically mentioned Gilbert’s inappropriate humor in feedback so he is a goner.  After the ladies leave the boardroom, Shawn goes in on Vivica from being so specific about why she was feeling unwell. I agree that was tacky.

The slogan was bad. It was unusable. Gilbert was horrendous. Terrell and Geraldo were responsible for the slogan. Those three are asked to return to the boardroom. Before they do, Terrell says, “God I hated losing to Vivica!”  Kenya and Terrell were Instgramming photos together during the time this was shot. He’s definitely #TeamTwirl

Gilbert was fired.

Next week is another two hour block of two shows. I think they are doing this to compete with The Bachelor.  Perhaps it is because I am under the weather, but I wasn’t excited by either episode tonight.  Were you?

Jamie took it way too personal for someone who says they are too nice all the time. Yes Kenya was a little rough but seriously if she apologized move on already. Why question the apology. Jamie came across as if she already had an opinion on Kenya or someone got in her ear. I agree both teams presentations sucked. Vivica got lucky with that win!

I agree. You have to consider the environment. You are in the middle of a challenge that is chaotic. No one has time to nurse your poor hurt feelings get over it, focus on the task and address it later. Some people are just looking for a reason to hate other people.

Vivica’s presentation was really bad. I liked Terrell’s much better. If they had a better slogan I believe they would have won even with Gottfried awful routine.

The girl that caught the attitude with Kenya was inappropriate. She was dressed poorly and Kenya immediately apologized for her small attitude (actually I don’t see any problem about Kenya’s tone or message, it was a hectic situation and not starting the damn microwave is ridiculous). For her not to move on because it wasn’t “sincere apology” was even more ridiculous. I would have let her know immediately I am not here to kiss your ass. Accept the apology and move on or stay out of my way. Who are you to tell me what is sincere or not. That girl has clearly been watching RHOA and had her opinion formed. Either that or Brandi has gotten to her.

Anywho thanks for blogging. This is my first time watching CA and I’m pleasantly surprised. So glad we rarely see trump and I like that Kenya’s roll is low key right now. It is easing her into the show and public opinion.

Wasn’t this episode shot right after Porsha attacked Kenya? Because I may have kicked Jamie’s ass. But Kenya has more class and tolerance than I do. I thought Jamie was being a bitch to Kenya. Kenya’s apology was nice and Jamie behaved like a redneck. I hate watching G Godfrey….ugh. So happy I don’t have to keep hitting the mute button now. Lorenzo Lamas …. well, I would still do him. LOL Team Twirl as always.

This show has a different feel to it than prior years. We’re not seeing all that much of what goes on in the planning and execution of the challenge. It feels very rushed and parts seem scripted. Seems like a lot of dull tools on both teams. I felt like I was watching another episode of the housewives.

It may be the result of still having a lot of loud, egotistical contestants. Then, once they eventually are ‘culled’ to a more manageable number, and members like Geraldo whose ego sucks the air out of rooms and frustrates members, and Brandi being an attention seeking PITA are gone, then the action should improve greatly. (I hope.)

I agree. I have been a fan of the Apprentice shows since Bill Rancic won. I started watching to learn about project management and to get an idea of how the business world operates and to get tips on how to make presentations to Execs and the like (I was pursuing a business degree at the time…Trump may not be the best human being but he’s a great business man) I say all that to say now the shows are more about the drama, notice how the board room scenes are longer. They are playing up the drama because that’s what draws the viewers.

How could Shawn be pissed about Vivica mentioning her period fatigue as a reason to fire her in the boardroom when she told the world on camera? If Vivica is ratchet for saying it isn’t Shawn equally or more so ratchet for saying it while on a tv show with cameras? She could have just said she was sick, fatigued, tired, etc. She brought up her little red friend so it’s fair game. How friggin stupid.

Shawn was being quite generic when mentioning that she had back pain. It was the other women who mentioned the MOON cycle. She just sort of concurred. Remember she’s only about 22, and had a very sheltered life in West Des Moines, Ia, with her focus on gymnastic competition. For Vivica to mention that in the boardroom, in front of a bunch or grown men, on national TV was classless and insensitive to a girl’s modesty. I was proud of Shawn for telling Vivica she found it classless. And let’s take it one step further. According to the sneak peaks I’ve read here ( I think TT??) doesn’t Vivica get angry at Kenya for, allegedly, outing out her menopause status on a tweet from Viv’s phone? Seems like double standard to me.

But lots of people are saying they don’t want to know, and frankly I can’t remember what I got up from the couch to do half the time so it will all be new to me..#HormonalDementia so let’s pretend like we don’t know in comments.

I don’t know who 2 of they guys are, and I thought the 2 Olympians were the same person until the 3rd episode.. Why the fuck is Kate G there? I hate that former possum headed bitch…. NBC aired 3 episodes in 4 hours over 2 days, and I hope it picks up steam in future episodes. #Boring, but maybe that’s because I got the cruds too like TT, and I can blame it on all the cold meds.

Speaking of that — next week my DVR has 2 hours and 2 episodes scheduled. Is this how CA has always been aired or is NBC “burning” this season by dumping episodes as quickly as possible? I’ve watched it before but it’s been so long I’m not sure, but it seems there was always only one challenge per week previously, not 2.

The problem with this season is there are no real A/B list stars, and most of the contestants are well past their prime. Kevin Jonas was too smug and self-assured for his own good, but I thought he would have lasted longer than two episodes. The men’s tasting went well, until Gilbert did his presentation. I am interested in trying the food, so I may buy some of the frozen dinners from HSN. What does Brandi Glanville know about being a business woman versus Kate Goslin? They seem to be neck and neck in that department. Leeza Gibbons has been the real secret weapon for the women and I would like to see her make it to the end. Still waiting for the episode when Kenya take Vivica’s phone, and sends out the tweets as Vivica. I will continue to watch CA because I cannot stand the Bachelor and I may be introduced to some products that I may not have taken an interest in before. CA may be a bore, but for me, it tops the Bachelor every time.

Most Olympic gymnasts don’t get their periods until later in their teens or when they stop working out 16 hrs a day 7 days a week. If you noticed, they all seem to gain weight too. This is their bodies adjusting and playing catch up. Shawn probably only started getting her period a few years ago, and could be the cause of severe cramps. She made the comment that she’s usually in bed.

I can relate. I missed a lot of days of school and work due to severe cramps. I like Vivica, but I thought it was very tacky to bring up Shawn’s personal business in the boardroom.

Not trying to shame her but I don’t even know how that happens to someone who was once a world class athlete. Or maybe since she’s not doing it anymore she’s been eating all the stuff she couldn’t eat when she was competing. But still, being that young, I’d think she’d want to stay in at least decent shape so she could still do commercials and appearances whatever etc. Just saying. *shrugs*

The episodes feel rushed. 3 people already fired and I haven’t found anyone having really shown who they are except Geraldo. Was this the time frame where he was posting all those half naked selfies on twitter? He’s ok for 70. Gilbert is/was an interesting old cat. I saw him on a celebrity wife swap. He’s cheap. Like reuse aluminum foil cheap. If Gary Busey can last until final 5 or however ridiculously long he did, I’d liked to have seen him be serious as a task manager once. I’m thinking Geraldo is this years Busey. He’s high maintenance and requires a lot of attention.

Vivica used to be cool. A couple of years ago she seemed to turn ghetto or something. Unsure what the word is I’m looking for, but she went from fun and cool to…something.

I thought the strangest thing ever last week on RHOBH was seeing Leeza at Brandi’s housewarming. Guess I’m slow, because it occurred to me only tongiht or last night why.

As a woman that suffered through ‘that time’ every month and also the change, I was horrified with what was said in the Boardroom. It was obvious that Shawn wasn’t herself.

As far as Kenya’s apology…going against the concensus here….it wasn’t sincere at all. Kenya is a grandstander. Jaime and Shawn faced their successes and their failures on a daily basis and as such are much more direct and honest.

With that being said, Geraldo is the most toxic of all of them.

I would bet that, if this is the best the producers had to work with, the season must have been a nightmare.

Kenya’s apology was as sincere as Jamie’s outrage. Everyone was crowded around a small space trying to get hot food out and Kenya was rude to Jamie. However, Jamie trying to make a federal case out of it is just bullshit. It wasn’t that *big* of a deal considering the circumstances/pressure they were under at the time — everyone, including Kenya — is allowed to be human and have lapses when under pressure. What kind of apology does Jamie expect — flowers and a sonnet? It’s surprising that someone who is an Olympic athlete acts likes she’s such a delicate flower that’s she clutching her pearls over Kenya’s “rudeness.” It’s pretty obvious there is an agenda there.

Unless Kenya did more than what we saw, my recollection was she was trying to keep Jaime from serving in exercise attire. And she was frustrated that Jaime and the others tasked with microwaving airplane food were unable to complete such a simple task. He apology was a placating one, because she really didn’t need to be apologized to in the first place. Delicate flower indeed.

I didn’t claim Kenya wasn’t rude — I’m saying Jamie trying to make a federal case out of it is bullshit. Hence, Kenya’s apology was *as* sincere as Jamie’s outrage.
And if in fact Jamie is such a delicate little flower that she was so upset over the incident she *had* to make a federal case out of it, she should wrap herself in cotton and stay home, cause this world is too harsh (or “mean”) for her.

I felt a little bad for Shawn. I never had bad cramps or anything with my periods. They didn’t even hang around more than a few days. I never understood PMS. I was lucky, lucky, lucky. The stories from my friends were hard to grasp for I didn’t experience those things. I always counted my blessings. BUT THEN….MENAPAUSE!! OMG. I am so glad that I had sympathy for those with the horrible monthly tortures. I sometimes feel like the reason I am having such a tough time with the menopause because I had it so easy with the other. Looks like us women have to suffer with one or the other. Some girls really go through hell. Some really do end up in bed the way Shawn spoke of. Vivica was so hateful about her pain (saying she would never forget). I hope somewhere down the road she will pay for her lack of compassion for something she has obviously never had to suffer with.

I had super bad PMS and would run a fever with it in HS. The school nurse would lecture my mother that I could not miss a day from school every month. I was bedridden with a ton of pain.

Now there is perimenopause and those severe symptoms are back with a vengeance. My sister OTOH just sailed through “the change” and can’t really relate. People that don’t have bad PMS just don’t get it.

I feel you, sister. My cramping was horrible about once every three months while I was in my late teens. I was a DJ on afternoon drive when I was 19 and you didn’t miss a show unless you were dead. I remember being curled into nearly a fetal position in the studio, putting my head down on the console between breaks….The Change was pretty sucky, too, but i’m on bio-identical hormones now so that helps.
That being said, I wouldn’t have given a s**t about my condition being mentioned in the Board room. My temper was always so bad during that time that there would have been a weave on the floor before the scene was over 😀

Thinking about Kenya. On WWHL she was voted the most wicked. On Celebrity Apprentice she was told she was “rude”, and “who raised you?”, and that made me ponder for a minute. I don’t think that the girl who said that even knew that her mother wasn’t in her life. Then we have Brandi saying that Kenya was “evil”. I wonder if Kenya acknowledges how she is perceived by others. Is she narcissistic? Does she even care, or is this all for TV? Is she trying to become the next Omarosa?

I seen a sign of humanity & warmth when Kenya took the initiative and reached out to Porsha and hugged her. Although Porsha was hesitant, as she should be. I think she truly hates Kenya, enough to attack her.

Kenya tried to greet Nene with a hug, and was dismissed. So, I see Kenya is really trying, but has she burned those bridges?

I think Kenya is in her element on Celebrity Apprentice. She has what it takes to win, because Kenya is cut throat, and cunning. Although from what I have read from the spoilers, she doesn’t.

Tamara, just wanted to say that you have the best blog on the net. You don’t hold back, and although I think some of your blogs are onesided, (Caroline) that’s cool, because its your blog and your thoughts. I like your honesty and your humor. I don’t like the attacks on the posters when they disagree with you…I frown when I read them. But otherwise, I read your blogs daily, and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, to check for updates. I am your devoted fan, and appreciate your dedication.

Is the Jodi Arias trial back on? I really enjoy your take on the trial.

That was masterful on Kenya’s part and you could tell from her expression that she knew exactly what she was doing. “Excuse me, I am talking” should be credited as a phrase to the Housewife franchise!

I agree with you Gemini about your assessment of Kenya. Something about her is very off putting to a lot if people. I know a lot of times super attractive women do not know how to befriend other women. It’s sometimes because of being threatened by them around their men. Sometimes knowing how beautiful you are is the curse. I had a coworker who was very attractive. She often used her looks to get things she wanted. She would make little comments about how most women didn’t like her because she looked so good and they were jealous. Her confidence in herself often came accross as being cocky. It took some time to warm up to her. I kinda feel like that’s where Kenya is. At first she seemed to brash, she says whatever comes to her mind. She doesn’t filter the things some of would not say to others and therefore gets misunderstood. Beneath it all I think she is a nice person just needs a few good girlfriends to help keep her in check.

I had no idea that Donald Trump’s youngest son was an albino…no offense to albinos. With all his money, he should have bought himself and both of his sons a chin.

You were right TT, these episodes were really bland. At first I was wondering why they had two episodes in one night; however, after seeing the episode and then reading your review, I am left to believe that they too think this season is bland and want to pump out as many episodes as possible so people will watch more before they turn off the tv. I thought Vivica was extremely rude about Shawn, Shawn was being honest, and Vivica’s ego went to crazy town. That was totally classless and a horrible way to be a leader. I must say, you have some of the best commenters on your site. I laugh at many of the responses because they are so damn clever and sharp. Thank you for making my day!!

CA is going head to head against the Bachelor. It’s a two hour (or three last night) show. I think the theory is they don’t want people flipping over to Bachelor after an hour of CA and deciding they would rather watch that.

Did anyone else find Jamie’s comment towards Kenya slightly racist? Jamie is lagging around in the Kitchen, while everyone is working their asses off. Kenya made a quick quip to Jamie in a hectic situation. Jamie found her to be rude and then compares her attitude to Oprah? Saying she should show more “respect”. The Oprah reference and “respect” lines just seemed to have racial undertones. Then to be so sensitive and throw a fit after a 2 second exchange. My goodness.

But why the need to compare Kenya to Oprah, another black woman who Jamie claims “shows respect”?
