Jodi Arias Court Activity For January 5, 2015

January 5, 2015 by tamaratattles 19 Comments

Um, may I be excused?
Um, may I be excused?

It’s the first Jodi Arias court day of 2015.  So far it’s just like all the other court dates in 2014. It begins with a long sidebar. Then a “five-minute” recess.  Then the jury was sent home during the recess and the media observers were informed by the Maricopa court twitter feed.  All attorneys, Jodi, victims family scoot off to chambers.  The assumption is that there will be a hearing about the release of the transcripts from Jodi’s secret testimony. Or it’s just a run of the mill clusterfuck. Because, Arizona.

Eventually, they return to court. The judge says that will reconvene at 4pm to determine if the defense can move forward and have court tomorrow. Nurmi filed an appeal to the Supreme Court regarding the release of the “secret transcripts.” Or they might come back before four if they feel like. But first, Nurmi has to interview some mystery person.  I swear I am not making this up.

Okay, this is really hard to follow. Remember there are three rings to this circus. In the ring about the media access to the secret transcripts of Jodi’s testimony, that hearing is now scheduled for Thursday, January 8th at 8:30 am.

In the main ring, it seems that Nurmi was supposed to call Neumeister to the stand and was the only scheduled witness. Then he changed his mind and wants to call another guy that worked (with Neumeister?) on the laptop to talk about “all the porn.”  He also wants that person to be able to use a pseudonym.  Martinez filed a Motion to Preclude the pseudonym person from testifying.  It seems that Neumeister was interviewed by Juan in further preparation for court and Neumeister repeatedly answered questions stating that Pseudonym Dude would be the one who could answer that question.   That interview was last Friday.  After the interview Nurmi informs Juan he wants to call Pseudonym TODAY. Juan tried to deal with it and scheduled an interview for yesterday  (yes on a Sunday)  at 8 am. then Nurmi changed it to 10 am. and sprang a 7,000 page technical report on Martinez.  Martinez says  he had a court reporter at 8 and now he wants the  witness precluded or for the witness to submit to interview with a week to prepare.

Or something.

Some people now think that Martinez is interviewing the Pseudonym Guy now and will be done by four.

Meanwhile, as everyone is sitting in court waiting for it to be 4 pm there, the Maricopa County Twitter feed reports no court for Jodi Arias case tomorrow.  I feel bad for the people who just sat in the courtroom all day and got no information at all.

Because, Arizona.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Un-effin-believable! What is WRONG with Sherry Stephens (I can no longer call her “judge”)?
I seriously thought you were pulling our collective legs, until I read “I swear I am not making this up”! ☺

Once again TT, thanks for taking a huge one for the team.
Though I believe many are reading your trial blogs, most feel like Tamara (& myself) & are just too speechless to comment. This entire trial is a “clusterfuck” → “because, Arizona”!☺

This is the worst possible scenario for jodi. Everyone is losing interest and soon no one at all will care about her or her fate and That will be true punishment for her.

Clusterfuck is right. What an absolute joke this case is making of our justice system. I feel terrible for the Alexander family. God bless them.

I think someone needs to come in and take over for Judge Stephens. This is her first DP case if I recall correctly. I think she should have a mentor judge or something. Everything doesn’t need to be a sidebar. The people in the galley deserve to know what is going on.

And the defense with it’s secrecy crap and people testifying with pseudonyms. Can you see Judge Belvin Perry letting the defense fuck around like this?

After the 1st trial I actually looked around to see if anyone took the time to add up all the times the defense said “can we approach” & “we object” & the amount of time it detracted from the trial. Though I recall Sherry Stephens only once saying “NO” (& I still remember to look of shock on Wilmont’s face), I imagine somewhere there’s an entire team that’s still counting them all. ツ

When all is said & done, I estimate at least 80-90% of the trial was sidebars (& BS).

How is it possible that the defense can turn over a 7,000 page report this far in (even if it has to do with the porn issue – which I know came up late) without some kind of sanctions?? I can not believe that a report of that length hasn’t been being compiled for some time now… Wouldn’t some form of it have to have been handed over before now?? And if Nurmi wants to put someone on the stand to talk about it does that mean I missed the part where Judge Stevens ruled that evidence admissible?? It’s taken so long to get this far I may have just forgotten… yes, because Arizona 🙂

I think it is a tech report about how all the porn stuff was discovered and probably is just a billion pages of code and computer crap no one will understand or care about except the computer expert. If you watch The Good Wife, the last episode the defense won in court recently by bamboozling the judge with computer “metadata” I won’t go into detail because people may not have watched the episode yet, but basically the judge didn’t know enough about computers to properly assess “the evidence.” I think that is the defense’s strategy here. They probably know it porn from a virus, or mostly from a virus, but they just have to convince the judge with some mumbo jumbo and Martinez gets hit with prosecutorial misconduct.

In reality none of this matters. Jodi is going to get life without parole. This is all just a circus act now.

The vast majority is counting on life without parole but the way Sherry Stephens has been running this circus (& siding with anything that could benefit Jodi) —- If the jury is unable to reach a decision, I wouldn’t be surprised if Stephens sentences her to 20yrs less 6 served, less 7 off for good behavior, less 8 off for her inconvenience.

Stephens will then announce to the taxpayers of AX → “Arias over-served 1yr & since she served as her own attorney for a period of her stay, at $250/hr, we owe her $1,250,000”. . . “and since during those 6yrs she was unable to hold meaningful employment, I’m awarding her an all-expense paid trip around the world to promote her soon to be released book “How I Made a Mockery of the AZ Judicial System.” “And since Alyce LaViolette was her coauthor, she’ll be joining her (& we’ll be also be paying ALL her expenses).” “And when they return, they will both be given positions (with full benefits, including retroactive pensions) as court advocates (ala Maria De La Rosa)”.

        “Because . . . Arizona”! (>‿◠)

The worst part, I think, is that every time there’s another delay, JA gets all smug & thinks she’s in control. It’s that same inflated ego that lead her to kill Travis & say she’d never be found guilty. Irritating.

Thank you for the updates Tamara Tattles, I just can’t with this case any more. Which is why I come here only now, for updates on Jodi Arias. It’s the most surreal case I’ve ever followed. I feel so bad for Travis’s family!

Nurmi certainly knows how to wring every last tax-paid dime from this trial, especially with a Judge that has zero backbone. There should be a secondary mentor judge sitting in on DP trials until the initial judge is properly death-penalty qualified and has experience with three completed trials. I have never heard of a trial going on and on like this for years and letting the defense put on this glorified dog and pony show for as long as they please.

This whole porn thing should have been wrapped up in two court days at the most. Bottom line is – even if Travis was a raging porn-aholic – it doesn’t change the outcome of the judgment of premeditated murder with extreme cruelty. It’s not a game-changer and this is all a time-waster. We know this fiasco won’t be wrapped up until spring, especially when they only have maybe one day’s worth of court time per week. “Sidebar and… adjourned!” I’d be surprised if the jury can even follow along properly at this point. I would be so confused.

From what I understand Nurmi’s passion is defending pedophiles (& he wants nothing more than this trial to be over so he can open his law practice). If you listened to Arias being interrogated (each time, in its entirety – w/Detective Flores & the female detective), you can easily figure out how Arias put together her entire bogus defense . . . but it seems pretty logical to conclude that Nurmi’s the one who brought in the pedophile BS.

Now this late in the game to hear all this porn was suddenly (& conveniently) found on Travis’ PC + there’s a witness (an old friend of Travis’ that never came forward before) willing to talk about poor Travis’ vices → I truly believe it’s Evil personified (Arias) combined with Nurmi’s slimy, shady ethics + a client (of Nurmi’s) willing to cut a deal.

They all deserve each other (& Sherry Stephens can have them all over for Sunday dinners).

You are so good at whittling all the bull shit down to a digestible portion, which I truly appreciate! Juan submitted his 1st motion on Dec 22nd {Motion For Court-Ordered Interview Of Witnesses Who Assisted Bryan Neumeister[LINK REMOVED] yet JSS chose NOT to rule on it until after Juan filed the motion Sunday to preclude anonymous’ testimony – so that means she finally ruled only yesterday!! Any judge presiding over a penalty phase of convicted 1st degree murder, could NOT be too busy to have ruled on Juan’s motion of the 22nd in a timely manner. If she had done her job, Travis’ family and the jurors would not have been kicked to the curb with another wasted day yesterday. I find it Infuriating that not only is the defense up to their eyeballs in shenanigans but JSS has no excuse for such negligence during a criminal sentencing trial, IMO.

So Samantha drove from San Diego and Steven and Hiliary drove from Riverside to find out that there’s no trial for Mon & Tues and not sure about Wed or Thurs (after the hearing). If I were a juror, I would be complaining to JSS loud and clear.

The poor jurors. There is an old saying, “Justice delayed is justice denied.” Judge Stephens is in over her head. She lost control in the guilt phase of the trial. We all hoped that she would move on to this part of the trial with her hands firmly in control. If anything it is further out of control than before. It’s no wonder people don’t want to show up for jury duty. This trial was suppose to be over BEFORE Christmas and it now looks to last longer than her guilt portion of the trial. Verdict in May again I guess.

I have followed this case from day 1. I agree this is a night mare and poor excuse for a court room of supposed professionals. I’ve never seen any other dp case take this long for a dp trial. She’s already been found guilty so why the long drawn out trail. I feel bad for the Alexander family and the jurors.
