Happy Thanksgiving!

November 27, 2014 by tamaratattles 71 Comments

Ramona

Of all the things I am thankful for this year, it’s that so many awesome people show up here, day after day. Thanks so much you guys!

Dear Mr. Vernon,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case and a princess, and a criminal. ย Does that answer your question?

Sincerely Yours,

The Breakfast Club.

P.S. Special note to the Americans…(Yankee and Southern) ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Don’t go crazy eating Turkey and guzzling wine!ย  We have a lot to talk about. Oh and tell me about your day.ย  Are you hosting? Attending? Going to a restaurant?

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, TT! I made two HUGE pans of cornbread dressing (in the South we call it dressing, other parts of the country have their stuffing) and will be going to eat with family and friends where everyone brings a dish, or two, or three. I will be fat and happy, but mostly I give thanks when it is all over ๐Ÿ™‚

I believe they call it ‘dressing’ countrywide. Once you ‘stuff’ it in the turkey, it then becomes ‘stuffing’. (Just my two cents… yes, a day late, and 98 cents short!)

One of the guys on The Chew had a dish of dressing in front of him calling it stuffing earlier this week. I was like, what is it stuffed in? NOTHING.

@TT~ I sometimes call it stuffing and sometimes call it dressing. Guess it comes from having a Yankee daddy and a Southern mama. We are doing our family thing tomorrow. Trying to figure out how to liquor up my mother in law so that she does not say something inappropriate to a guest.

โ€‹LOL I watched the movie “The Guilt Trip” the other day… Seth Rogan’s character had that exact same problem with Barbra Streisand’s charter.” He tells her that has not been an even remotely appropriate way to refer to a person in decades.

It struck me how society suddenly decides a word is offense and then people that have been using it for years have to suddenly stop saying it.

TT, I will be here (off n on) today as well. If you have any delicious hot tea that just needs to be spilled, no worries, I will be here with a cup. ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you get drunk, that’s OK too. I may just be that way in 8 hours too. ha

Today, I don’t have to cook but I will be going over and crashing a friends family Thanksgiving festivities. I offered to arrive early so I could help prepare dinner with her. Today will be my first Thanksgiving ever without spending it with my folks. 2 hours ago they drove away from home here in OR, (after 38 years) left the rain and they are head to AZ for retirement life and SUN! It was bittersweet to see them go. I am THANKFUL to my gf for making sure I wont be alone today. I am single (divorced) and don’t have children so I really value my parents and close friends who I call my “Framily”! More than anything I am thankful or good health!! Hope you have a great day TT.

I am skulking in my tent, Christmas shopping on the Internet, and buying Walnut steps for elderly dogs. Postage is frightful. I already have beanbag tray laps for fellow bohemians who use tables for snooker. I’ve been asked for Nordic jumpers and got them, migraineous! I’m giving token gestures to those out of favour; probably a packet of “Thank you” cards, as a prompt, and I am plotting, generally. What is your day like?

Leaving soon to the parents house for another dysfunctional family gathering to feast with just us siblings & families. Though I’m not feeling well with my tinnitus making a huge racket in my head today, all I can think about is my mother’s delicious warm cornbread casserole. #obsessed

Today is just another day for me. The days of cooking for parents, husband, and his extended family have been over for years. Everyone has died, divorced, or moved away. I have become content. I have stocked up on books to read, I hate football.

I am thankful to be inside with my cuddly cat, looking out at snow and 23ยฐ of cold gray weather. We will eat whatever we have, whenever we want, wearing comfy clothes. Not having to cook it, clean it up, and clenching my teeth too much is not a bad thing.

I am thankful for all the good memories I have, thankful for today, to Tamara sharing herself, and this collection of people here, even if some of us are odd, to say the least. I am thankful TT does discriminate, it could be worse.

This Yankee calls it dressing. You stuff some into the bird but the best of it is baked in a casserole dish where the edges get nice and crispy. I leave out the giblets when I make it, I don’t eat guts or necks. I add the “meaty” flavor with stock or bullion. This was one of the good things about growing up and doing the cooking, the food is made the way I like it. No one ever complains, it is too good.

I am skipping the traditional turkey this year. I am smoking a pork butt, and when it’s dine, I’ll shred the pork and put in a crockpot. Instead of the usual BBQ sauce, I’ll be putting on pork gravy and some (not hot, but spicy) spices. Let the whole thing simmer. Meanwhile I’ll be making a pork sausage dressing, and homemade cranberry relish. When it’s time, put the pork on a bun, top with a touch of the cranberry relish, enjoy and for dessert, I am making a warm banana pudding with nilla wafers!

all of my family is gone now so holidays are mainly lonely. I laid down to nap for I wasn’t feeling too well. While I was sleeping I dreamed about my folks. In my dream I was real excited for I was going to get them to come and stay with us for a while {they used to do that a lot….we were close friends}.. when I came to I was so excited….then I realized it wasn’t real. It was so clear and real. I cried when I realized it was only a dream. I miss them so. My husband said it seemed so real because they were with me. that they had come for a visit. I was in my twenties when they died. It seems like it was only yesterday. So today I give thanks for the time I did have them in my life….no matter how brief it was.

Riley, my husband passed away a few years ago, leaving me a single mom to 3 kids. He was my best friend long before we ever dated. My shoulder to cry on during my bad boy phase, the only one who didn’t judge me when I got pregnant out of wedlock then didn’t marry the father, my rock during life’s ups and downs. After he was gone I felt so unsure of everything how to help my kids through their grief when I felt I was drowning in my own. On days when I was at my lowest I would dream of him and he would give me encouragement me and the kids would be ok. Even in the dream I would know he was gone but it still felt so real. Sometimes even wide awake going about my day out of no where I’ll catch a whiff of his cologne. I truly believe our loved ones watch over us and even pay us a visit from time to time.

I don’t know if my post will be seen as everything I’ve written today seems to be in moderation lol. I started my Thanksgiving last night by preparing everyone’s favorite dishes with the help of my husband AND my oldest son. The menu ended up being 16 items lol but everyone got what they wanted. The people I really wanted to spend my day with showed up so I was blessed. We ate, laughed, watched football and when everyone was happy, I indulged myself and came to my favorite blogger’s site TamaraTattles to catch up on what I might have missed.

Tamara, I am thankful for you and this site. It has become a big part of my day. Being disabled, it brings laughter and enjoyment to me reading your blogs and the posts of people on here that even though I only know them from the site feel like my friends. This might sound lame, but it’s the truth. Just wanted to say thank you so much for what you do for us. You are special in my book and I don’t mean in the short bus/window licker kind of way.

My sister was VERY generous with the Turkey bones this year. I got a GIGANTIC LEG and a HUMONGOUS WING with like four cups or so of diced meat. I’m making a bone broth overnight and the house smells so good.

Thanks. We emailed when she passed. I guess it took a while to sink in. But for real, thank you Tamara.

I cooked my ass off and went to my roommate’s family’s dinner and then we went to my family dinner.

Then my roommate, one of my sisters, a friend and I got sloshed and high. It was a great day.

Thanks TT! Likewise, I am thankful for your site, which you are correct, I do come to day after day. I am a longtime reader, since very near the beginning, but this is only my second time commenting. I’m going to make an effort to comment more often, as I always read the comments as well as the blogs.
You and all, (ok, never mind, MOST) of your readers are such a witty, crazy, fun, awesome group of people.
FABULOUS BLOG! I recommend it to others often. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving TT and Banjo! Hope it was a great one!

Last Thanksgiving I was in between this world and the next. I had sepsis that wasn’t treated till very late.
I was in between conscious awareness and letting go but I don’t have any fascinating insight ( bummer ). Right before 2 blood transfusions I DID see images and people as if they were xrays.
After a few hours a could sense color again.

ALSO: I am now pretty convinced that the ominous lighting and brilliant blues from the operating lamp are inspiring, but not what is truly a “path” especially while under sedation.
