We’ve been talking about Bethenny Frankel returning to RHONY, and we all have our opinions. Not nearly as many as we have about Jason Hoppy (y’all are a bunch of assholes, btw) which we argue about here. Today, Bethenny appeared on The View. Let that sit with you for a minute. You wanted your own talk show, you got one, and it didn’t work out. Now you find yourself going on a talk show with a track record of a million years to pimp your brand again. Bethenny has never seemed particularly happy except in the first few weeks of her talk show, and I imagine this is an emotional nadir for her.
While we wait for Bethenny, I’d like to point out a couple of things. I happened to watch The View yesterday. I’ve been trying to remember to watch to see what this new incarnation of the show is like and yesterday they had a Elizabeth Warren, a far left democrat who many in her party want to see fight Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination in 2016 on. Warren is very outspoken and has a huge following and very pro-women’s rights and such. It’s great that The View had her on. However, she was there to campaign for three female democratic candidates, one in New Hampshire, one in Kentucky and one in Georgia. Here, in Georgia we have very tight races across the board coming up. I don’t affiliate with either party. Currently, I am leaning toward the democratic challenger for governor and the republican candidate for Senate, but I’m not completely sold on anyone. The candidate she advocated based on her ads that are all over my TV are all basically saying various versions of “Vote For Me I Have a Vagina! David Perdue Hates Vaginas!” So I was curious what this esteemed politician would say about her platform. So she talked about the woman from Kentucky. I believe her platform is minimum wage laws. And said something about the NH woman. And I waited patiently for a reason to vote for Michelle Nunn and the woman said David Perdue owned companies that outsourced labor to China. Um, okay. Most companies do that. I wish they didn’t. But what about Michelle Nunn can you tell me anything about her? Warren basically said she was a fine woman. So today the new version of Elisabeth Hasselbeck was allowed to mention the opposing candidates. Which I think you legally have to do. So that was good.
Two more observations. The bald-headed producer guy is not longer the producer and all through the show the hosts are asking? Are we out of time? What is next? Is the show over? Bill, I think the guy’s name was, is sorely missed. And more importantly, I always liked Elizabeth Hasselbeck and how she stood up for her political beliefs in a room with no allies and plenty of hecklers. Well, it seems that Elizabeth had some sort of mysterious surgery and is on extended sick leave from her Fox and Friends show and no one knows what is wrong with her. Yesterday, Whoopi acknowledged that Elizabeth has been very ill and they are all thinking of her. Well not Rosie O’Donnell, but you know. I am kind of worried about Elizabeth and curious as to what her illness is.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, it’s time for Bethenny. She is last after two segments with Taylor Swift. She is being interviewed by the new republican lady and Rosie O’Donnell at a tiny little table covered with her skinny girl drinks. She says she loves the new look and the energy backstage was great! She is there pimping her new book about her cocktails. I guess it’s a recipe book for low calorie drinking? Do we really need a book for that? I can hear Teresa Giudice’s voice in my head right now saying, “I bet they all taste diety.” Rosie clearly has very little information about Bethenny. She asks how she got into the cocktail business. I hate when these people don’t know the good questions to ask.
The republican, I should have looked up her name, has been on Wendy Williams and admits she has no idea at all about anything pop culture. She admits to Bethenny that she has never watched any reality shows but that she will watch RHONY now that Bethenny is on. Lie alert: No she will not. She asks Bethenny what it is like living in the public eye. Yawn, softball. Bethenny says initially she went on the first time to develop her business. She quickly learned that if she was going to be on she had to be honest. She says the word honest several times in two sentences. She says she did bite off more than she could chew, because having a relationship online was “a little bit gnarly.” She says she gotten burned a few times, but “don’t hate the player hate the game.” Republican lady acts like that is some quote that Bethenny invented right there on the stage. Bravo and reality TV have been really great to her. When she started she was emotionally and financially insecure. Going through difficult times is really what connected her to the audience. She has been dating. She is still married. Rosie asks what her daughter’s name is. This two interviewers know NOTHING about this woman. It’s kind of funny. She says she is still going through a divorce and she stopped doing “shows like this” because she could never be dishonest (this seems to be a point she is trying to stress. She is very honest, y’all) and pretend everything was great. Rosie asks if she talked about her breakup on her own talk show, she says she did a little bit.
Rosie asks who she will be on RHONY with she mentions Carole Radziwill, then says Aviva, oh wait not Aviva, Heather (she can’t remember Heather’s last name) She says she just met them all so she if finally filming with them…Luann, Sonja.. Rosie says so it’s the same show, and Bethenny says no, because there are new girls on now. She says for her it is totally new. Well that last little thing was sort of interesting. She didn’t mention Ramona or Kristen at all but the show was ending and Rosie was interrupting.
So basically, once again, another housewife was interviewed by talk show hosts who had no idea who she was, or what questions to ask.
