We are officially down two jurors in two days. Yesterday one was excused for a family emergency, today one decided to wander out front, take her badge off, have a smoke and watch the live news interviews. That was juror 9 and she has been sent packing.
Back to the showdown between Willmott and Horn. Willmott says it is possible to survive a gunshot wound to the frontal lobe. Horn sticks to his original story that when he reviewed his initial report he made some corrections. Horn maintains that the gun shot was last. JW ends her cross.
Martinez jumps up and runs toward Horn with a pen a pretends to stab him while shouting “That didn’t take long, did it?” Willmott objects saying, “Mr Martinez is standing next to the witness and yelling at him…and stabbing him!” Not nearly as good as Objection! Fairytale! Which will always remain the best objection made by any attorney in any case. Juan does very little redirect.Jury Questions!
Q1: Regardless of conversations that were had, is there anywhere in the autopsy report that can discern the time of injury and sequence they were sustained? Sequence of events is not speculated on in the autopsy report.
Q2: Would a wound to the stomach cause aspirations from nose and mouth? No
Q3: Would the presence of water alter the stippling around a gunshot wound? Yes but stippling would still be seen.
Q4: What was the first injury? No way to be sure.
Martinez on redirect asks if Horn believes gunshot was last. Yes. Willmott loves to ask to approach. Martinez is annoyed each time.
Break. All lawyers, Jodi, Travis’ sisters called into chambers. We’ve passed the 30 minute mark. Court reporter is in there too so whatever is happening is on the record. Tanisha is really struggling in court today. This family has been living in hell for so long. For their sake I hope it is over soon.
No idea what is going on. Everyone eventually came out. Then a five-minute recess was called. Juan too Travis’s sisters into side room. Jodi was taken to a holding cell. It’s a mystery. Maybe Jodi just went to pee. Nurmi and Jodi huddled at defense table. It is noted by observers that they are talking very closely with each other. Which never happens with these two. Juan back at his table with next witness looking over paperwork, seemingly preparing to move forward.
The jury is brought back in and reminded they are not allowed to discuss the case with each other or watch news reports. It seems strangely out of place.
Lots of tweets about the interactions between Jodi and Nurmi. Nurmi makes “strange hand gesture” Jodi nods knowingly. Everyone is tweeting about this interaction. They seem to all find it very significant. Where is Willmott?
Next witness finally takes the stand. It’s the Yreka police officer Mendez who investigated stolen gun from Jodi’s grandparents house . It’s the same caliber as the murder weapon. Mendez had Jodi under surveillance and eventually arrested her as she was loading boxes into a car. Martinez asked if Jodi had birth control on her when she was arrested. Defense objects. Sidebar.
Martinez continues to ask Mendez about the condoms in the suitcase. He also talks about her infamous smiling mugshot. She asked the photographer if her hair looked okay.
Next they discussed the rental car she rented 90 miles from her grandparents house.
Nurmi asks on cross about the hair comment. Mendez says “The whole thing was odd, including the photograph, but the hair comment was oddest.” Nurmi suggests this is a sign Jodi was mentally defective. Didn’t defense argue that Jodi was NOT mentally ill last time around? Nurmi asks if Jodi keeping receipts from her road trip would make her easy to track. He said yes.
Nurmi has a copy of Jodi’s driver’s license up on screen. Mendez says the driver’s license photo was taken in 2009 but then realizes Jodi was in jail then. Courtroom tweeters have no idea where Nurmi is going with this so neither does the jury, or us for that matter. It seems that Nurmi was trying to prove that Jodi changed her hair color all the time and it was not to disguise her appearance .
Martinez’s redirect about hair color and gas receipts seems so unimportant tweets have all but stopped. Juan is pointing out that Jodi filled gas cans to avoid leaving a paper trail in AZ. Premeditation.
Jury Questions:
Q1: Were any other receipts found? I don’t recall.
Jury is dismissed.

doesnt sound near as fun as the jodi show last year. thank you TT for following all the tweets for us. trying to keep up with hln gave me a headache and i shut it off and had a nap. had to be good fpr AHS tonigjt
Phew. Was worried the tainted Juror would just be allowed to stay. Was it the same juror who was not looking at the gory pictures I wonder? Maybe they wanted to be dismissed, or are just really stupid.
Jury #9, her sister in law apparently was friends with Jodi too….how the hell did she make it on the jury?
Crazy isn’t it. Someone isn’t doing their job. I don’t see how this wasn’t a huge oversight by the prosecution. Or maybe the juror lied when asked about bias and relations to Jodi.
THis is what I want to know.

I was watching Nancy Grace. She’s been showing the pre arrest videos (she wasn’t there, she was there but so were a man and a woman wearing ski masks…etc)
Under the interview videos, were the tweets (but not nearly as many as TT reported! You’d think that a news channel would keep up!)
How may hundreds of thousands of dollars must tax payers continue to spend to justify and rectify the penalty of the tragic murder committed by the hand(s) of JA? Justice comes at a hefty price and JA seems to laugh and mock the system as though she owns it even though it does’t come from her own pocket. Lesson to all: If you boink like a freak, tape and photograph it, and then murder your lover (including more pictures that shows the timeline and graphic details), then don’t blame the public jury for not showing compassion and forgiveness for the 29 stab wounds, near decapitation and a couple of gunshots to the head of the man who only wanted sex and not a lifelong relationship.
If I recall correctly, during the first trial the cost to the state was well over a million dollars. And now it continues to build
I am not a proponent of the death penalty. I do however agree that the murder of TM was beyond cruel and he suffered enormously.
I sincerely hope that she gets life without parole so we do not need to read about her any longer, that she fades away into obscurity. With a DP sentence she will be in the news, fanning her ego, for decades.
Lock her up. No more appeals. No more limelight. No more money wasted on this su b species of a human being. I loathe her. I think the wort punishment for her and her enormous ego would be to be neglected and forgotten.
In no way do I want this to start a discussion on the right or wrong of the death penalty. I know we all have an opinion and I respect yours.
I hate to break it to you, but this case will be appealed regardless of the outcome.

That hurts. Damn it. I was so hoping that the only appeals would be for DP which are automatic. Fuck her.
All murder convictions are appealed. Often repeatedly. Sorry.

Even if she’s locked up for life, she won’t be ignored or forgotten. There are murder groupies, that send letters and money to murders in the hopes of getting an autograph or pen pal.
There are websites that specialize in this, and then they turn around and sell the autographs and letters for big $$$$!
What an exciting life!
Thanks TT for all the recaps. Jodi is such a psycho. I am kicking myself for not “calling in sick” for the duration and heading there to get a seat (if I could). I was obsessed with this trial last time. Your recaps for Jodi trial round 1 were how I found your blog and all my bravo, vh1 reality loving shows! Thank you for digging through all the news and tweets to recap for us.
I didn’t hear about or started paying attention to Jodi Arias until about two weeks before the trial ended. So I missed everything. Then I saw all the TV movies/documentaries about her. Sorry I missed it. TT do you think she’ll get death? I’m also not familiar with picking special juries just to decide the whether she gets the death penalty. Why didn’t the jury that convicted her decide whether or not it would be death or life? Sorry I’m behind.
hit the link at the bottom. It ill take you awhile to catch up.

Oh God, so much to read, so little time.
A quick answer to the jury question. Then read all TT’s blogs. 🙂 The first jury found her guilty of the crime but couldn’t come to an unanimous decision on the sentencing. In AZ the State gets one more bite at the apple and they have another trial on the sentencing decision. If they can’t agree on the sentence this time (either the DP or life in prison), the judge makes the decision of either life without parole or life with possibility of parole after 25 years.
Objection fairytale was the best thing ever!
I find it odd that in the morning Wilmott was saying that if shot first he wouldn’t have had all of that immense suffering/torture, and then in the afternoon she says that you can survive with a bullet to the frontal lobe. She not only contradicts herself but shows more suffering if the latter is the case.
If she gets the death penalty the appeals will go on for years and years. The state of Arizona will be paying for it. If she gets life, she’ll get an appeal paid for by the state but she’ll be on her own after that. I used to represent death row inmates. The death penalty is a HUGE waste of time and money.
