Nashville Season Premiere: Torn Between Two Lovers

September 29, 2014 by tamaratattles 33 Comments

nashville-cast season 3

I don’t think I have ever recapped Nashville before, but someone asked and I’m about to watch it so we shall see how this goes. Also, I am trying to lure y’all away from Bravo. We really need to get some sort of 12 step program to get off of that network.

We begin with Rayna James who has several men trying to claim her, but I believe on the finale last season she accepted a proposal. It looks like she is conflicted because she is not wearing the ring and instead just sort of looking at it. I think we all sort of feel like she will end up with Deacon eventually. Oh wait, I think both Luke and Deacon proposed. Decisions, decisions.

Meanwhile, I’m not sure what Juliette is melting down about, I think her boyfriend found out she cheated on him and it has made her go all Britney Spears crazy. One of her stupid female assistants actually helps her find scissors. What kind of woman does that? All women know that there is a point in the crazy meltdown if it gets bad enough that you want to cut off all your hair. I’m sure there is some sort of psychological term for that. And when it gets to that point getting institutionalized and incoherent writing on the walls with your own feces is only a hop skip and a jump away.

Teddy and the oldest daughter have a spat. She wants her mom to marry Deacon. Don’t we all, Deacon’s kid. Don’t we all.

Will is playing the Bluebird and dedicates a love song to his wife, who he told he was gay on the finale of last season. She’s a bit confused. Outside  Luke walks up to Deacon and punches him right in the face and says “Why can’t you just let her be happy?” And Deacon replies, “Why can’t you?” Nashville Scissors

Then we flashback 12 hours. I hate flashbacks why must every show do this? Luke wakes up Rayna with a paper with their proposal on stage splashed all over the front page. Luke is over the moon and doesn’t seem to pick up on Rayna lukewarm response.

Juliette barges in on Avery begging him to talk to her. Juliette begs for forgiveness but Avery says he can’t stand the sight of her. He leaves and she collapses on the couch. Eventually her assistant and manager find her in a mess. She has a movie audition to play Patsy Cline in a biopic and she is a wreck. Fortunately, in the scene she has to do Patsy was a wreck too.

Scarlett and Deacon have a chat. Deacon is writing a love song to sing at the Bluebird that night. Scarlett suggests he give it up, she is engaged to Luke. Scarlett is humiliated over her very public mental breakdown and wants to move back home. Avery shows up drinking after is 6 am encounter with Juliette and asks to leave town with Scarlett. As Scarlett and Avery pull off, Gunner jumps in the car and tries to talk Scarlett out of leaving. He won’t get out of the car, so Scarlett just takes of with him in it.

Will is talking to his wife about being gay. They are still filming a reality show so I guess they will keep up the premise.

Rayna tells Luke that Deacon proposed the same night he did. Luke just walks off. OOOh Rayna just did the “I love you but… ” thing with Luke. Luke takes Rayna’s uncertainty as well as could be expected. Rayna pulls out all of her Deacon memorabilia  and takes a walk down memory lane. It was not all unicorns and rainbows. She goes to tell Deacon that she is picking Luke. She needs a clean slate without all the painful memories. Deacon makes his case, they love each other. He turns on the charm and Rayna cries.

Scarlett’s car breaks down in Bumblefuck, Mississippi. Avery is still drinking. Gunner is still trying to point out that wherever Scarlett goes everyone will know about her breakdown. The mechanic in Bumblefuck asked her about it. Meanwhile Avery is commiserating with some chick at the bar when her huge redneck ex sees him and Gunner and Juilette have to carry his drunk ass out of the bar before the guy kills him. Scarlett turns the car around and heads home to Nashville.

Holy crap. Juliette is pregnant!

Back to where we started. Rayna looking at rings and Deacon getting ready to play.  Rayna shows up at the Bluebird wearing Luke’s engagement ring and kisses him on the red carpet. Deacon sings a love song straight to Rayna.

My whole life used to center around Bravo’s schedule but they aren’t delivering the goods lately. Ancient beauty queens, a New Jersey girl in Alabama (with fake storyline of will-she-or-won’t-she-move-back). Nothing! Been watching Nashville since it started. It made me even like some country music.

I have always loved this show, I never miss an episode. I appreciated the flashbacks in the premier, at my advanced age I needed some reminders. Normally, I think some get inverted in shows to save on production coat of new material. An hour program becomes only 35 minutes of new output.

I have never been a fan of country music but Deacon is turning me. I will read any recaps you do for this enjoyable show.

I didn’t mean the montage from last season at the beginning of the show. I meant that the show started at the end for the first ten minutes or so and then flashed by 8 hours or 12 hours. It was totally unnecessary.

You are right. I misinterpreted. Truthfully, I forgot that backwards approach to the story even happened. The CRS is worse today to remind me I am another year older.

Happy Birthday! Apparently, I am joining in the celebration by worsening CRS as well! The last two days I’ve been practically dysfunctional.

First show I ever noticed using that flashback style was Alias many years ago and it was awesome then. Now it’s just overused and annoying.

This is my first time commenting on your site. Thanks for recapping Nashville. I’ve been watching since the beginning, and as soapy and scattered as it is, I still love it. I’ll keep watching until Rayna and Deacon end up together.

I’m also trying to give up on Bravo, with varying degrees of success. I hope you keep recapping This show.

I NEVER listen to country music, but I love “Nashville” . I watched season 1 because of Connie Britton and got hooked. I even like the music that they use on the show though I still don’t listen to anything remotely “country” in real life….And I love me some Juliette when she is in mega bitch mode.

Regretfully I missed half of season 2 because I got busy with life, but did the gay cowboy singer “come out”???????

To Urethra Franklin: The gay cowboy singer came out to his wife while cameras were rolling for that reality show they signed up for, but apparently neither the gay cowboy singer nor his clueless wife realized the room they where in had the camera or the audio equipment in it. Now the gay cowboy singer and his clueless wife want out of the reality show, but the producer wants them to continue and is apparently using this information to blackmail them into staying with the show.

He came out only to his wife at end of season and they are filming a reality show about their “perfect” marriage. It seemed on last night’s show the secret is out and they are getting blackmailed to not stop appearing on the reality show farce.

Gawd I wish you blogged it last season. The reason I stopped watching Nashville half way last season was because AHS aired on the same night/ same time. So its a yes vote from me that I would love more Nashville here at TT.

Noooooo Rayna! Noooooo! Also really upset about Avery and Juliette.

This is one of my favorite shows, and I am also not a country music fan, but the music on this show is amazing. I’ve been very tempted to download a few of the songs on iTunes a few times.

One thing I noticed is how they are now showing real, raw footage when they are performing at the Bluebird, including all of the real musicians, many who wrote some of the songs. I learned that from that live for real concert they did at the end of last season. That was really cool. It was actually “Juliette’s” first time ever performing on stage in front of a real live audience. Maybe the actress who plays Charlotte as well. I’m glad they carried that over to the show now.

this is one of my favorite shows too…

though upset with Reyna, I understand her trying to do the stable thing. but she should have learned from her last stable thing…to run with the HEAT! and boy does Deacon bring it!!!!

I too am upset about Avery & Juliette, I thought she was working on growing up…poor Avery as he’s growing, he has to let her go…but I loved them togther!!!

I am not a country fan, but I totally googled and downloaded that song “Change You’re Mind” from when Scarlette & Avery broke up, it was THAT GOOD!!!

Tamara, thanks for recapping, this is one of my favorite series…I’ve broken up with Bravo a while ago..actually when you didn’t recap NY, I gave them up.

Seems like a lot of people are getting sick of Bravo all at the same time! I’ve been wishing I got this aversion to Bravo during the summer. Now it’s getting dark so early… But Bravo isn’t going to get me back! I think I’ll go on a TV diet, read this blog, more books, and work out. I’ll tell you how it goes.

PS: VH1 may be a good way to wean… There are like 20 shows that are all about celebrity exes. Same thing every episode. Super easy to give those up. Like 2 weeks straight done.

When Avery and Scarlett first arrived in Nashville in the first couple in first season. They were marked. Scarlett divorced Avery because of his blooming career. Then as his star was starting to fizzle, Scarlett’s star rise like a rocket. Since they came to Nashville for Avery, and Scarlett had no interest or intentions on a music career. So they divorced after a music executive realized that Scarlett was related to Deacon and figured she would be a novelty act. That’s went Avery was invited to fill in one night for Juliette. He played so well, he played his way into her bed. Wrote a song for Juliette to sing. They were finally both happy and healing together…then they got the news that Scarlett was to fragile and low self esteem to handle studio executive’s tearing a criticism of every note, every word on creating the album. Not to mention the speed that her record producer was giving her in quantity, just so she’d be able to work/finish the album, touring and promoting her albums. The hours were long and grueling, all while on meds. Whet it finally occurred to her all she ever wanted was Avery, she flipped out thinking it was too late, she was with a real star and wouldn’t want her anymore.
Avery went to see Scarlett and they picked their relationship up where it dropped off. This pissed off Juliette. Who is now pregnant with either Avery, who she loves, or the one night stand with Avery’s protagonist friend.
This should bring yup today on that part of the season you missed. As far the Rayna/Luke/Deacon relationship (plus Reyna’s husband, the politician) Deacon and Rayna had an affair for years while on the road. Rayna was engaged to Deacon. But Deacon was als an alcoholic. Deacon flipped out on stage after Rayna told him she was pregnant. She broke up the band, married the congressman passed off the daughter as her husband’s. Neither he or Deacon didn’t know.
After Rayna started a second affair with Deacon, Reyna’s current husband found out. At the same time Reyna ‘s oldest daughter is not just an upcoming guitarist/song writer, but the little snoop found out that Deacon was her dad. Court ensued, visitation was set. While around this point. The congressman (or has he graduated to Senator) sometime around this time the Congressman started to see a women that works in his office, was Reyna’s bff, adored the Congressman. They got married, she then got pregnant and lost the baby because she was shot on stage. They were aiming for her husband.
There that should get you caught up to date in a coconut shell!
    Enjoy!

Peggy was pregnant with Teddy’s baby but she lost it. She deceived him by not telling him she lost it because she was afraid he would not marry her, if she was not pregnant. They got married, shortly after Peggy faked a miscarriage to cover her tracks. Teddy did not find out about all th8is until after she died. He is bitter.

And the guy that Juliette slept with is a scumbag record label guy named Jeff Fordham who constantly holds things over the people on his label’s head, and forcing them to do music his way. Rayna had to buy her own music collection from that label when he took over because of it, even though it’s her music that really built that label. It was not easy for her to afford that. Anyway, she branched off and started her own label. But yeah… Jeff Fordham is a real sleazy guy.

And no, Charlotte and Avery were never married.

I HATE 99.999% of all scripted drama series, I never watch them however I love “Nashville”. I’ve been watching since the very first episode, season 1. I am NOT a country music fan at all but I find myself actually enjoying the music when they’re in concert or someone is playing a set at the “Blue Bird Cafe”. It’s so weird why I love this show! What’s happening to me???
