Random Thoughts on the Scandal Premiere

September 26, 2014 by tamaratattles 33 Comments

GUSTAVO ADOLFO, PORTIA DE ROSSI

Was the Gone Girl product placement because the movie is coming out? Or just a pop culture connection to Olivia being on an island and  a “gone girl’?

Did we really need to see the finger banging?

How did Olivia get her hair straightened between the island girl do and the car ride, which appeared to be from the airport?

Who leaves an island with expensive wine deliveries by boat with no one there but your horny finger banging boyfriend to go back for a funeral when you just decided to leave that life forever?

Someone who wants to fuck the POTUS again, that is who? WTF is wrong with Olivia or whatever her dumb name is now?

On what planet does a fired criminal’s character get this much attention? He should have gotten the Charlie Sheen effect. They have a body at least so he won’t be coming back.

Mellie has become me. Good for her. If you ain’t getting any, why shave your legs? 1976 was probably a very good year.

I did not even recognize Portia de Rossi. Is her character supposed to be butch?

WTF is going on with Cyrus’s hair? Is this what happens to old gay men when their twink dies? Does he have no gay hairdresser friends? DOESN’T EVERYONE HAVE GAY HAIRDRESSER FRIENDS?

Does anyone remember anything about these senators? Why does Olivia care? Oh, yeah, POTUS penis.

Fitz tried to commit suicide?

I wasn’t wowed by this episode. I think three hours of Shonda Rhimes might cast a harsh light on her repetitiveness. I love her shows but if you put them all together it’s all strong black woman, sex scenes and paternity drama.

I hope Scandal gets better. I’d be good with a season where Jake and Olivia stand in the sun all season with limited knowledge of everyone falling apart and dying without her. I think this season might jump the shark.

What did y’all think? I really think this whole show was written last after Columbus Short got fired. It really was not that intriguing. But for now there is nothing else on Thursday night so she has some leeway to suck me back in.

Literally just got done watching Scandal and came here to see if there was a post yet! lol
So, I think this episode was probably not how it was going to go. I think everything had to be changed around a bit because of Columbus Short being fired. I’m not ready to think its jumped the shark yet! Please don’t let that be the case!!! I love Scandal!
I’ve never really liked Melie, but I think it might now. Fitz looks a hot ass mess.
I’m hoping the show gets its groove back by episode 2 or 3.

It jumped the shark mid 3rd season which is why I didn’t bother with the finale or premiere. It was better when it was just Pope & Associates doing their thing. The B613 drama just ruined it. That shouldn’t have happened til the 5th season if Shonda Rimes history of writing serves my memory correctly. Greys had about 5 good seasons before it got stupid. She’s getting too cocky. I want to watch How to Get Away with Murder or whatever but I don’t want to fall in love with it only for it to fool me 3 seasons in again.

I am happy that the “old” fixer Liv is back. I really hope the Liv/Fitz relationship is dead. I cannot take another season of that. I felt Mellie’s pain this episode; when she laid on the grave, I started to cry too (don’t laugh at me). I really need more of Huck this season and what happened with his family. I do not want Huck and Quinn together (yuck); as a matter of fact Liv needs to send Quinn to her island for the rest of the season.

Why does Portia De Rossi character look so “old” and unfashionable?

    Few notes….
I gave the episode a 6/10. As a premiere episode it was very light.
    The finger banging was unnecessary.
Who the hell agreed to have Cyrus wear that ridiculous thing on his head.
I cried when Mellie lay on her sons grave. It was the only believeable moment for me.

Girl, please, I would have stayed my behind on the beach with Jake drinking wine and eating coconuts, getting deliveries by boat, screwing and getting black as hell in the sun- although Jake looked like he had patches of sun poisoning on his face. It was not a good look. He looked better back in DC after shaving. I like him for her, much better than Fitz. I would have cried over Harrison on the island, and kept it moving. I would NOT have gone back. But of course, the show would have been cancelled. Yeah when did she have time to flat iron her hair??? She must have done it on her dad’s plane in the bathroom, as I would have done. lol I thought Mellie meant she wasn’t doing her girlie bits anymore, not her legs. Why did my mind go there? hahaa. Portia looked so plastic surgery ish. I wasn’t sure if it was even her. Who is she supposed to be? And did Cyrus go to Hair Club for Men? What the hell? And yes, please don’t do the Huck and Quinn thing again. Makes me throw up in my mouth a little.. Ick. And I hate what’s her face’s hair this year. David’s girlfriend? And what is the reason for David being made Atty General? It was kinda tired as an episode though, didn’t ya’ll feel? I LOVED How To Get Away With Murder. It had the energy of Scandal back in the day. And the breathlessness. I preferred it, frankly. Anyone else?

I was a little disappointed with Scandal. It was so predictable I really didn’t like the scene with the finger banging nor the bedroom kissing thing. I mean it was like Liv’s mind was someone else. Olivia has been protrayed as a bit slutty and I think it’s time she corrects her image by committing to Jake, forget about POTUS and go on to save the world. I’m hoping the next episodes will get juicier and have us biting our nails again. But for now I’m gettings a lot of fast talking saying nothing. Mellie is going to be the object of our affection and she’s the one who will give us life.
Fitz, get over the brown sugar and be the President. You are so not interesting.

That’s butch to you? Heh. Maybe that’s a regional sensibility; in a Brooklyn bar, Portia’s character last night would read corporate femme.

I had the same feeling as on the latest AD season on Netflix, the jarring differences in her face post cosmetic surgery.

I don’t watch Grey’s but I agree w/ this: “I wasn’t wowed by this episode. I think three hours of Shonda Rhimes might cast a harsh light on her repetitiveness.” However, I really loved Viola Davis last night. I found the murder-flash forward scenes a little chaotic.

Seemed to me like they had to bury the guy and get Liv back and that was a kind of boring way to do it all. I like her better as the fixer so hope she is back and the episodes get much better then last night.

Well, I am finally irritated enough with Scandel to have to quit it. It’s the fast talking that gets me down. I loved the first 3 seasons, but I cannot listen to the “machine gun” delivery of lines any more.anyone else having this problem?

I was bored with it; didn’t care one ounce. I don’t like Jake and Liv but I absolutely will give up on this show if they keep trying to shove Fitz & Liv down our throats. I will miss Harrison.

I think the show has trampolined way over Jaws.

I was unprepared to watch Scandal but watching it didn’t give me much incentive to keep watching. Although I did! That was a weak ploy to get Olivia back to DC. And she did what? Plan a funeral, help a senator’s aide, and miraculously decide to stay in Harrison’s spirit. But let’s be real, Olivia galvanizing an island with Jake spells B-O-R-I-N-G. I’m liking Mellie at this point, and her soliloquy of her telling Fitz to let her know when he sees Olivia was the highlight of the episode, well I count this one second to the miraged shot of Fitz and Olivia walking alone in the courthouse, but Mellie delivered the one line banger of the night that set me over the moon dying of laughter. Hopefully, though, both Fitz and Olivia will exercise restraint, in the least, indiscretion, but I’m hoping these two do not get back together! I find it odd that Abby remains at the White House and was given the title of “press secretary,” or something like that. She won’t remain now that Olivia Pope & Assoc. are back in effect. I expected more, but it was good enough.

Oh and I definitely saw that something was odd about Cyrus’s hair! Thank God that Harrison’s spirit lives on, but what is going to happen with the Aidnun connection to Mama Pope? Didn’t Mama Pope kill Aidnun anyway? #arewegladiatorsorarewebitches

It was ok. Definitely better than last season. I missed half of last season and didn’t bother to watch to catch up. I’m going to stick with it this season and am hopeful.

A few things that stuck out: the Gone Girl book product placement, Cyrus’ hair, Olivia getting finger banged and the turbo-talking.

That being said, I will be going to see Gone Girl next Friday and am happy they cooled it on the B613 BS.

Season 2 was magical. I hope they can recapture it.

Last thing, I sort of recognized Portia but quickly wrote her off as a look-alike. Was it the hair or did she do something to her face? At least she appeared to be at a healthy weight.

I actually did not mind seeing Jake come onto Liv at the beach, but I thought his speech in the bedroom was paternalistic and rather creepy. Olivia did look bored at tropical paradise though.

Everything about this episode felt so contrived to me. I guess it’s convenient a senator got maimed just as she returned to the great land of DC? Couldn’t they have thought of something more convincing? All of these people are so corrupt it’s a joke to pretend they are motivated by concern for abstract ideals. She can leave her white suit in moth balls.

And yeah, Olivia planned this “good” funeral that consisted of a coffin and handful of gmo rose petals?

    Mellie is our only hope.

And I am ready for everyone to stop talking about Portia de Rossi’s body, forever. She acted well–maybe we could talk about that?

Any more scenes of Oliva and Fitz making eyes at each other and we will need more commercial breaks to vomit.

This isn’t the NFL darling. This is show is run by a woman. Shonda Rhimes, like most women with all of their brain cells firing, doesn’t knowing employ violent men who abuse their wives in front of their children. Sadly, there are a lot of brainless women in the world who would overlook such behavior and continue to be fans of such people. It’s a sad testament nature of some women. Charles Manson gets fan mail but he will not be on Scandal anytime soon. You may get to see Columbus make a triumphant return on a network like Bravo and VH1 now that he is a “rapper.” There are plenty of well watched shows on those networks that cater to thug behavior.

As for Tripoli, it is quite odd that anyone is traveling to Libya to have a fabulous time given that the militias are still killing each other, blowing shit up, and kidnapping people. The electricity is sporatic at best there are rations on many basic items. The people that I know there are dealing with miserable circumstances and closer than I have ever know them to leaving the country.

I thought episode was very emotional and loved it minus the finger thing. Harrison’s funeral was sad. Mellie laying on the grave had me in tears – no parent should outlive their child.

Looking forward to next week. Prefer Olivia with Fitz and Mellie with the VP. Mellie and Jake deserves someone who truly loves them.

I had a lot of the same questions as you… I’m not leaving after the liquor’s gotten there and jake was giving some island goodness…yum, yum

Liv has to go back. She’s a very aggressive person. She needs to see her love come back to her for her to know its real. Fitz is almost the one that got away, but she just has to check… Convoluted hot relationships are my specialty. I can see it

I hope the crazy vice president is still around… I don’t think she died last season did she?

Didn’t like the opening scene. Wish they would stop making Olivia so trampy. Loved Millie and feel her pain. Fitz tried suicide. Was Rowan at Harrison’s funeral to spy on Olivia or for other reasons? I guess Olivia’s speech at the funeral the Harrison backstory…epic fail. Not sure yet about Lizzie/Portia. Loved Cyrus hair…fun to watch. David rosen for AG…whats up with that? Glad there was a scandal as i want them to get back to those stories. Slow but respectable start since we all knew Liv would end up staying in DC.

Basically they conceded in the first episode that the show can’t survive without Kerry Washington. Would have been kind of nice to have at least one episode that basically didn’t include here as we all saw the aftermath of the last season. I agree that her speech at the funeral was awful. Rowan was probably there as a warning to Jake, but that’s just a guess based on the fact that Jake was the only one who saw him and it seemed intentional.

I agree with everyone on the sex stuff. I like a sexual Olivia but is she going to turn into the female equivalent of a guy who thinks with his dick?

I’ll give it a few more epic, but it was a really weak start.
