Below Deck Recap: That’s What She Said

September 16, 2014 by tamaratattles 49 Comments

Below Deck Season 2 CastOn tonight’s Below Deck, it looks like everyone except Ben and Kat is going to the bar  The fact that Kat is not coming to the bar is very odd. Ben and Kat immediately drink and head into one of the staterooms. That’s a huge no no.

Jennice is uncomfortable around Kelley now. Kelley and Eddie head back to the boat early. Kate, Jennice and Amy have dinner with some foreign guys they met at the bar.  Kate heads back and Amy and Jennice are saying their goodbyes when one of the guys tells Amy to go fuck herself. WTF? The guys cursed at the girls when they left. Amy tells Eddie and tells Kelley. Kelley goes off to kill the guys. Eddie goes after him to stop him. They are all causing a disturbance on the dock and waking people up sleeping in neighboring boats.

Ben and Kat can be heard fucking in one of the staterooms.

The next morning Kat is bitching about the deckhands not helping with interior work. Why should they have to? It’s not their job and they are a man down.

BelowCaptAdrienne

The crew is looking forward to the return of Beverly who brought a dog that everyone had to walk last year. This year instead of bringing her friends she is bringing her family. Several of the girls she brought last season had a girl crush on Adrienne. There are a ton of flowers on this cruise.

Someone (BEN) splurged on the decorative pillow on one of the beds during his sexcapade with Kat. Good grief, Ben. Ben also doesn’t adhere to the dinner schedule and is late with the food again. Ben seems to be blaming Kate for his slow service. Kat is in bed. It’s nearly 11 pm and people are not eating. One of the guests goes to complain to Kate. Ben continues to criticize Kate.

Jennice tells to Kelley that his anger issues bother her. Kelley also says she has a boyfriend. Kelley storms off. Kelley goes off to pout. Kelley talks to Amy and seems angry that Jennice said he has anger issues. Kelley moves out of Jennice’s room and into Eddie’s.

Adrienne Gang is at the bar where she is supposed to meeting the primary. It looks like she is invited on the  boat next week as a guest. Also Kat and Kate both gang up on Amy!

Check out Captain Lee’s blog here. He was NOT pleased with the crew on this episode. At all.

Ben is denying it all on twitter. I believe him. I feel sorry for him, for all of them.
      “Chef Ben Robinson ‏@BenRobinsonChef 14h
Firstly I never stained a pillow @BelowDeck @Bravotv @Andy and I wasn’t late ever!!!! So… TV show! Naivety will get you nowhere… Cheers”

I really feel for him. Kate & her posse of hagfags (51 Minds Queens who are apparently crazy about her) don’t give a flying fig about the reputation of boat, crew, captain, etc etc etc. You never, NEVER, confront a sociopath or narcissist and call them on the carpet, unless you are in another country in full body armor in an underground bunker and plan to live the rest of your life that way. Because you WILL be made to pay. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually, when the time is right, you will leave yourself open, and bam! you will get it right where you live in a way that you might not be able to recover from. Talk about a permanent stain on one’s reputation…pun regretfully intended. Poor Ben, he has tweeted very little about this episode and my guess is he is pretty bruised. His reputation has taken a hit two weeks in a row. Last year’s crew would not have done this because they did have their tips to worry about and most were psychologically normal so the boat/crew reputation mattered. This year’s guests already know they are going to be on camera and probably the tips are staged along with everything else (as Adrienne pointed out in an interview you can’t just go withdraw 18 grand from an ATM in the caribbean, that money comes on the boat the first day with the guests).

Eddies comment when he saw Adrienne was priceless!! I had to rewind to hear it again! Kelley is such a baby — we’ve all dated guys like this -but dude really – I know I shouldn’t say this but damn Jennice’s parents should have had her ears fixed! She is so pretty but those damn ears I can’t get past em! I love Kat and Ben together their cute – Kate annoys me ! All in all one of my fav shows!

Kelley has some kind of Iraq/Afghanistan war issues and like every kid I know who went there and saw combat, especially the Marines, he is just mind-effed and has an extremely volatile temper. It’s really bothering me this year that Ben is being so careless about when his guests get to eat. Waiting so long for first course and between courses is ridiculous! But I love Ben. I hated passive aggressive Adrien so bad last year that Kate seems to be pretty good compared to list-making Adrien. And I think Bravo urged all the guests to be a little more awful this year than last year. I have been very proud of Kat for having her drinking and banging under control, and she doesn’t complain very much, so for me she’s been the pleasant surprise of the season, so far. Oh my goodness so right about Jennice’s ears, she is just a little Hobbit now, don’t think she has big hairy feet.

Ben’s late meal…wth? Esp since its not tbe first time he’s done it and got called out. Since he ignores Kate, Captain needs to chew on him.
Eddie’s reaction to Adrienne is hilarious!
What did I miss? Previews suggest crew angry with Amy…
Kate owes Amy and Kat a huge thanks for their great skills which makeup, fot the most part, for Kate’s bitchiness.

I think Ben’s gripe was that on of the courses sat unserved for 15 minutes. His trouble seems to be with the starting hour of the meal. What time were they suppose to start eating? I looked like they had a long time between lunch and dinner.

Ben tweeted last time that it was editing that made his meal look so late, he seemed incredulous that anyone would believe he was that behind schedule. This week it definitely was due to Kate’s machinations. Adrienne has recently said in an interview that while she was initially bummed she was not included this season, she is now relieved because of what is going on on the show. I concur, I hate to see Ben’s reputation taken apart bit by bit (he, along with Amy, Kat, and Capt. Lee, are on Kate’s shitlist for calling her out/getting her in hot water about the penis blanket). One by one these people will be made to pay. Notice that Kate is never histrionic or even obliquely emotional about anything, she is one of the kind of people that lives by the credo ‘don’t get mad, get even’. Her recurring problem on this boat is that her basic dislike of people and her job is obvious to the guests. I honestly wonder how she ever made it to chief stew with such a stank attitude and an obvious talent for causing discord and disruption among the crew and treating guests like shit. (Well, factoring in other possibilities I actually don’t wonder, what with her statement that “it’s not about the boy, it’s about winning” in the previews…I assumes she’s done a lot of boys to ‘win’ whatever it was she wanted to win at the moment.) This is just an icky, nasty person they have snared in their casting net this season, very unpalatable and hopefully if Adrienne finishes up her gig next week, I will gleefully tune out. While Amy is adorable, Kelley is unstable, Captain Lee is annoyingly myopic, Ben and Kat are predictable, etc, there is just no draw left.

I am confused as to what Adrienne ever did to Eddie? I know Kat didn’t get along with her but they need to suck it up she is coming into their lives as a guest.
If Ben is going to do a 4 course meal over two hours he needs to put some food on the plate-a single shrimp and a slice of beet isn’t going to sustain anyone for half hour between course service. All the stews should be on duty during meal time or the deckhands need to pitch in either in the kitchen or to help with service.
I agreed with Captain Lee’s critique of the crew this week.

Well, that whole thing was strange, that Capt. Lee forecasted Adrienne’s behavior this week so he could criticize, is he afraid he won’t get to criticize her next week? Adrienne is a guest and she can do whatever the hell she wants, he doesn’t criticize the other guests to this extent when they act like idiots. He’s a complete idiot not to see that Kate is out to make mincemeat of him and his crew because he called her down and showed her to be a liar on tv and wouldn’t ‘let it go’ about the blanket. Of course she checked the room and saw the pillow, but it served her purposes to show it on tv and get revenge on Ben and Kat, which is also what the slow dinner service was about. Ben’s been annoyed in his own comments on twitter with how it is being skewed to make it appear his dinners are later & slower than they are (not a problem last year, and he’s had quite a career so far). Kate is a very intentionally weak link in this chain, you can tell from the stills she is a miserable person, it shows in her face, and she is serving her own purposes with every (planned) move that she makes. She wasn’t ‘professional’ with the boys they met on shore, she was not impressed because they weren’t rich and had nothing to offer her. Had it been a billionaire sitting there she’d have probably abandoned ship. This season is such a trainwreck…nothing annoys me more than watching a bunch of oafs being played by a sociopath (Kate) and taking a ridiculously long time to figure it out.

I didn’t get Captain Lee’s blog about Adrienne either. That was very strange to me. I thought they were friends. I don’t get why Adrienne being crazy as a guest would be something he would chastise. I thought the guests were there to “have the time of their lives” what’s a little swordplay among friends?

I guess maybe there is more to it? But he does seem to be commenting on the next episode. And he claims to have missed all the hijinks on this one.. So maybe something major went down?

how indeed…in the space of a single year, Ben has gone from being a great chef to an unprofessional barely adequate amateur. What changed…it can’t be the obvious answer, the chief stew? It wasn’t the meal that was slow, it was the service. And the service was slow because there was NO service, since Kate made sure Amy was otherwise occupied for hours and Kat was tucked away in bed. Gee…what a coincidence.

I agree with you point 5cats, dinner IS late, and when it’s late the primadonna chef is not thinking of the crew who need to sleep AND need to get the beds turned down during some portion of the dinner service. Ben is your typical rule-breaker. Kate has to be emotionless to put up with taking blame for the chef and crew 24-7, without telling the guests off. Tuning it out helps.

the ONLY reason I am watching one more episode is to see Adrienne. Kate the snake is taking this crew apart one by one by one. So gross…but I have to give her credit at how good she is at being diabolical, very few people have caught onto it yet. She will damage the reputation of everyone involved with this boat before it is all over with (everyone that actually has one, that is, Kat is kind of beyond help so exempt).

I suspect that Ben will prove to be the true prima donna of the crew. One thing I can’t quite figure out. According to Ben, a bitchy ‘resting face’ may affect the crew’s tip, but not a meal, prepared by an imperious, pillow staining, bitchy British chef, served by exhausted stewies to guests on the verge of hungervdelirium won’t affect the crew’s tip? Interesting.

I am not buying the pillow stain whole heartedly. Number one, when you are somewhere you are not supposed to be, you make damn sure that you have hidden evidence that you were ever there. Number two, hand lotion or something similar squirted on a throw pillow (say by an opportunistic chief stew) makes the same kind of stain. Number three, I wouldn’t expect to find a stain like that at the head of the bed but lower down on sheets and covers. Number four, said stain should never have gotten by the stew who checked the room (Kate, according to Capt. Lee) to be found by the guest. This is a set up, though it is not clear to what degree, there is no doubt it is. Kat and Ben know they were in the room so they can’t really be exonerated. I feel sorry for them, stupid as they’ve been behaving.

In regard to “number one”, both had drunk a good deal that night, at least enough to blatantly disregard a rule about sleeping in guest quarters. Sleeping in the master suite reasonably may be viewed as a greater offense. While I can see how Kate’s attitude and her alleged evil deeds, could negatively impact her peers and how they may be perceived, no one held guns to their heads to disregard applicable ship
        regulations.

In regard to numbers two and three, the pillow in question can easily be moved to “ground zero”, the point of ‘union’

He’s everyone’s favorite and needs more camera time. Bravo doesn’t understand that middleaged cat ladies make up a much larger portion of their audience than they want to admit. 🙂 And well nearly middleaged dog ladies. 🙂

There could be more scenes with Captain Lee giving Eddie advice since this is his first season as a bosun. Or talking to Amy about her brother’s self-created issues, or whatever happens next week when everyone is mean to her. They needs to treat the show more like The Facts of Life at sea and all the bratty young ones could come get life lessons and lectures from the Captain at least one per episode. THey could still do all the pillow splooging and cocktail sabotaging, but just get caught and sit down for a stern talking too with the Captain! 🙂

He seems like the moral center of the show and he really doesn’t veer off course much. That appeals to a lot of people but not to the types that produce these Bravo shows. I wonder if he is afraid if he gets in the spotlight too much he will get burned. (He probably should be). I wouldn’t mind it if he played a bigger role.

If repeated charters are complaining about when dinner is being served it’s on Ben. Dinner at 11 is way too late!

As far as serving the food! Why would you send Kat to BED …literally DURING dinner! I would think she would be expected to work in some capacity in the evening. I’m okay with Amy turning down the beds but radio her to come up when serving. I mean It’s only 1 chef putting out dinners for maybe 10 people …come on!!! How long could it take to run the food out? They are on a yacht not a cruise liner.

Ben is a liar. During the Dean Soulmate charter, Ben declared he will throw dinner together when he *feels like it.* The guests complained — and somehow that was due to editing? Then, despite having been told in writing that the guests wanted breakfast between 8:30-10:30 a.m., he served their first breakfast much, much later. Again, complaints. More fake editing, eh, Ben? Last night he pulled the same get drunk-and-wait nonsense on guests. Then, how thrilling: one shrimp and a slice of beet. I guess them waiting an hour plus for a shrimp was editing, too.

When a course is ready for serving, why doesn’t he communicate with Kate via her earpiece or, ring a bell?

He would have had an additional server if he had simply begun earlier and stuck to a schedule. I get it about the turndown service: that late at night, some people would want to go straight to bed after eating, esp. since it gets dark about 6:30. Ideally, dinner would be preceded by cocktails and snacks, so they are never hungry. On the Dean cruise, a few guests were so so hungry. Ben is a selfish, unprofessional joke.

Of course that’s Ben-splooge on the pillow. Vile. And why should Kate have to run behind the stews and check their work? She’s just one person and they are adults.

Adrienne is going to tell some disgusting tales about Kat. I bet Lee is so mad and embarrassed!

I know many of you love Ben, but I think he is a jerk. Did you see him eavesdropping and looking embarrassed about the pillow stain? And then he and Kat acting like they didn’t know how that happened. Kelley is sexy as hell but a bit scary. Jennice did lead him on. I think she found it flattering that he was attracted, but obviously didn’t make it clear that nothing was going to happen. Someone else commented last week about how she was gossiping about it to everyone else on the boat, like she was proud.

I never felt Kelley was seriously into her. I felt that it was a matter of convenience. I think it hurt his pride that she didn’t return his affections, probably because she came to her senses and probably because she wanted to be more than a piece of tail and that is what she knew she’d end up being, a boat-mance that only lasted til the last charter was over. Then she’d have no boyfriend and no boat-friend. Someone said early on that he seems like me might be PTSD and it sure is starting to look that way, he’s become a bit of a high-maintenance case for sure. Poor Eddie.

Same here, Cat! I was big on Ben last season, really enjoyed him, his perspectives on matters, though THIS SEASON his self-superior behavior; calling a crew member a muppet out of turn, being disrespectful with no cause to him, when he had nothing to do with him was out of place, since Bell wasn’t the guy’s superior or peer. Big on protocol as Ben claimed he was last season, he was out of line.

Ben swaggering around the kitchen and him claiming, counter to guests written requests and requirements, that he will serve WHAT he wants to serve guest, WHENEVER he wants to serve guests. Forget chef’s ego. He’s a charter yacht chef, and as one he is obliged to cook and serve at his guests’ pleasure. Kate should advise Capt. Lee or prepare to suffer consequences of Ben’s inhospitable, disrespectful behavior. I reject claims that Kate was responsible. If Ben was a prefessional, he would have advised Kate of his intention to prepare a four course meal, so she may schedule stew meals and breaks, so they may work in concert with Ben. If he is running the kitchen, HE is obliged to communicate with Kate to ensure that guests will be served in a timely, professional manner.

Maybe Ben is suffering from BRAVO reality show ‘sophomore-itis’; pulling ratchet stunts and creating ratchet drama like certain real housewives do during the second season for the purpose of gaining more camera time, like certain attention seeking bimbos have done in the past. KWIM, ?

Honestly maybe I have a different perspective because I have yet to work for a chef that wasn’t a bit of a pill. It is part of the job requirement, at least for male chefs, to be arrogant. But again I think alot of what is going on is Kate very carefully playing to the weaknesses of those on her shitlist for not agreeing with her that her behavior re: the penis blanket was justifiable. Perhaps my family is a bit more dsyfunctional that most but I have several family members and inlaws like her and you have to tread very carefully around them and make damn sure to stay out of their crosshairs because they will undetectably take you apart just for the thrill of it. Too bad for the crew to have someone like this in their midst.

I can’t stand people like that…I go off on them if they start with me.

I love Kate! She has a dry sense of humor and after working as a server for so many years, you just get that jaded look to you. It is time for her to move on but I still really enjoy watching her.

In regards to the short handed deck crew that’s always bitching about having “so much work”, drink every time they show them and theyre sitting down…. I swear it’s every damn scene! So for them to be so stressed about all their work, they should get up more often.

Ok, and finally, I didn’t enjoy Adrienne last year, and it looks like I won’t again this year. In the preview, a says something about Kat sucking someone off, and then when she’s a guest on the boat, a guy said something about putting it a all in his mouth (dinner, it looked like) and A said “that’s what she said”…. Which is probably why capt lee isn’t very happy. You may be a guest, but you aren’t going to abuse the crew. He will cut the trip short like the one last year where the charters were sniffin a little coke.

I just love this show. I would love to live the life as a “yachtie”. And yes, I would smile much more than Kate

I love Ben!! Why oh why is he bedding Kat. Kat is a little too “easy”. It seems Ben was late with the meals, but he blames it on editing!?
I kind of like Kate Chastain. However, she does need to smile and be a bit more pleasant. Any and Kat always smile when they cater to the guests.

I literally chuckled when Eddie saw Adrienne and swiftly swam back to the boat.

I think Kelley is quite the hunk but he needs to not sulk because Jennice was very honest and sweet when she nixed the idea of a romantic relationship.

Why does Kat keep saying the stain on the pillow is sunscreen? How stupid is that? Does she think everyone is deaf? Howling…!! She said at the beginning of Season 2 that she has a boyfriend and Ben said he has a girlfriend. How disrespectful they are!! NO CLASS!!!!
