Caleb Continues to Lie About His Military Experiences

I realize this could go in the Caleb Reynolds Spool of Lies post, which is the most popular post of the month by FAR, but I really have a pet peeve about guys who embellish their military experiences and tonight Caleb told some whoppers. I also realized where these combat stories and medic stories of his are coming from. Caleb told Rachel Riley in her interview with him pre-show that he worked in a prison in Iraq for about nine months and hated every minute of it because the prisoners made fun of him all day. He says he joined the military to fight on the front lines and was disappointed and pissed off and quit when he got back home. He was not a medic, nor was he involved in direct combat.

So where did all the stories come from? Well on tonight’s show we saw his HOH room and there were three military items there. First, his uniform cap.  Next, was an American flag he claims he got because his infantry unit was the last to leave Bagdad so “They took flags of each of us that were there and they flew them in the soil of Baghdad.”  He gave it to his mom when he got home.

BB16Caleb StalkerI’m not sure who flies flags in soil, but in the military they are flown in the air. I can assure you that Caleb was not in the last unit to leave Iraq. That would be 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division  out of Fort Lewis Army Base near Seattle, Washington.  I can also assure you that the troops were not provided with flags flown in soil or air when the left. Furthermore, when a mother of a soldier is presented a flag by someone in the military it means their son or daughter is dead. This whole story is such bullshit he could hardly get it out.

Finally, and perhaps even more ridiculous is the Infantry Blue Cord and the story that Caleb tells along with it.  According to Caleb he said, ” This guy right here,  This is my heart, it means a lot to me.  It’s a blue cord. It’s an infantry cord. My dad is retired special forces, so I was like dad, will you present this and put it on me. So I was standing there in formation and my dad walks up and he’s like ‘Good job, son.'” Then he demonstrates how the cord is worn.

Not one wore of that is true other than the item in his hand is an Infantry Blue Cord.  It’s not a cord for reservists with no officer training who want to fly to Iraq and kill things. It’s also not for special forces particularly. If you read the transcript of what he said. He seems to be saying that it was his father’s and he presented to him from father to son. He’s such a fucking idiot. You don’t pass down military decorations from father to son.  Father’s don’t trot out onto the field during military formations to pat their sons on the back for fictitious military service.

The Infantry Blue Cord is presented to all qualified infantrymen in the U.S. Army at the end of their Initial Entry Training. Officers commissioned into the infantry receive their Blue Cords at the end of the Infantry Officer Basic Course (IOBC). [Source Wikipedia]

As for Caleb’s demonstration, he reenacted his father putting it on his left arm. The Infantry Blue Cord is worn on the right shoulder.  Clearly that cord has been worn a good bit by someone, but it sure as hell was not Caleb.

BB16 drunk Caleb fell down the stairs.I’m now convinced that Caleb is retelling military stories from his father or other family members that did serve in combat as his own. Caleb has been playing up is military service on the live feeds saying that he is sure that will get America to vote for him for America’s Favorite Player.  Christine, Cody and Frankie have all bought into his military bullshit. But Derrick has to know that was a pile of horseshit. Right?

And shame on Big Brother for letting this fool lie about his service experience and decorations on the regular show when America’s Favorite Player voters can be influenced.

It’s pretty sickening if you ask me.

Speaking of sickening, I’m under the weather and was laying down and was not even going to recap this show until this happened. The only other interesting thing that happened was at some point, Frankie blamed Caleb for trying to get everyone to keep Donny. Cody told Caleb about it and he is not happy with Frankie at all. Today Caleb is still considering backdooring Frankie, but Derrick is pressuring him not to.

In the beginning of the season Caleb said he served as a prison guard in Afghanistan, now it’s become Iraq. If Caleb was one of the last ones to leave it might be that they tried to sneak out of there and leave him behind. He probably drove all of them nuts with his stories.

Exactly! He has definitely told some tales but it was not uncommon for soldiers in IRAQ to get some R&R in which they had one of Saddams homes refurbed into a place for soldiers to rest which included game rooms and use of the Olympic size swimming pool. I have many pictures of my husband there in PTs enjoying some free time

Earlier today the acting HOH Caleb had a discussion with the real HOH Derrick about back dooring Frankie. Of course Derrick shot down that idea AGAIN.

Then later at 7:39 on Cam 1 Derrick & Caleb were outside playing pool, and Frankie had just come outside. Then someone with a bullhorn shouted “Frankie is destroying you in the DR, especially you Derrick and Caleb”. Derrick immediately rushed Caleb & Frankie inside knowing that BB would call another lockdown. I am pretty sure that Derrick & Caleb heard exactly what was said. HAHA I hope that seals Frankie’s fate to get a backdoor nomination tomorrow.

TT you did an excellent post about military protocol. You seem to know more than Caleb. As soon as I heard him say those things I thought HUH????? I knew he was lying his ass off.

I wonder if he’s doing it for strategy to be perceived favorably by HG & America or because he is an insecure narcissistic pathological liar?

I love your blog! I can take a picture of a box that contains a flag and a certificate that came from Baghdad that my step son sent to my husband. He was a civilian employee in Baghdad and the flag was flown over the country. The box is the exact same as what Caleb has. I can’t stand the fact that he is lying about his military service (if he has any) and it is a slap in the face of all the military who are and have fought for this country including my husband who spent 22 years of service in the Army!

My little brother is in the Air Force and did 2 tours at Bagram Airbase Afghanistan, he had flags flown for a bunch of us. You get a certificate that states the flag was flown in honor of so and so and states what operation, aircraft, mission, and date it was flown. They have to purchase the flags themselves and request they be flown, depends on what type of flag they buy and where they get it, on the box it comes in. He could have bought a flag and put it in the dirt himself I guess lol

His father said they fly the flag for a day and you get it as memorabilia, which is what he did. Similar to what I posted about them flying in combat missions for memorabilia

Those flags became a joke. So many certificates were faked it’s not funny. Also, they become less meaningful when anyone can get their hands on one because of the number of them out there.

My husband is retiring at the end of this year after 21yrs.

I wish that Anna (the woman who commented on the blog about Caleb’s many lies, who said that she was in his unit and that everything he’s said about his time in the military is bs) would come on and fill us in more about Caleb. As annoying (and often comical) all of his lies are, lying about this stuff is crossing the line big time. It feels like it should be a crime of sorts. I hope that we hear him get called out on this once the game is over. I can’t imagine that this isn’t pissing off those who actually DID what Caleb is lying about doing, like those who were in the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division for starters.

Not only is he disgusting, he is disrespecting every soldier that has honorably served.
First of all, you don’t quit the Army . You sign a contract of service for 8 yrs., usually. This may vary depending on your MOS but that is the norm.
I did notice he put the cord on the wrong arm. I looked at the pic of my son and thought hmmm… At graduation, you can have a family member or friend place the cord on your arm, so I didn’t question that part of it.
Why he feels the need to embellish his service record, I just don’t get it. Be proud you served your country, did the job assigned and came home alive.
My son has been deployed twice and those 20 mos were almost unbearable knowing he was in harms way every damn day. I never wanted him to enlist and tried to talk him out of it. It’ been his job for 10 yrs now and I couldn’t be more proud.

Caleb is lying about leading anybody anywhere. I’m familiar with Air Force, not army ranks and decorations, but his rank upon separation from service seems to be the equivalent of staff sergeant in the Air Force. E4. Not a command position.

However, he probably did receive an Infantry blue cord upon completion of his training. That’s what it signifies. As for his father presenting it to him, I’ve got a picture of my grandfather pinning my father’s wings on him at his graduation ceremony from flight school, so if they still do that sort of thing, it’s possible his dad did the honors.

I did immediately notice he put the cord on the wrong shoulder, but he was demonstrating perhaps, and not overly concerned about accuracy.

Embellishing your importance in the military is a squirrelly thing to do when everybody can check, but in the context of the game, he had everyone swooning. If he wasn’t such a liar about everything else, I’d call it good strategy. But it’s caleb, so you know he does this shit in real life too, where it is deeply dishonorable to embellish.

Ah, thanks. I just went back and read it again. The info I read started with when officers receive it and then continued with when enlisted can receive it. So I suppose it is possible he could have received one. However, the fact he never specifies whose cord he is talking about, I still don’t believe anything he said.

I think he was a reservist. Does that make a difference? It seems like reservists would not have had the required training.

He was just commenting that his dad was a specialist-not that they were his cords or anything else. Army Reserve, Army National Guard, or Fully enlisted Army doesn’t matter. They all go through the same boot camp and AIT. Once you complete your AIT for Infantry you earn your blue cords. There is a ceremony called Turning Blue (tons of youtube videos if you want to watch). A family member is asked to come put the cord over the arm and up to the shoulder and pin it. I did my son’s in Fort Benning last year. I think he just worded it all funny. Some of his stuff is embellished but the cord thing was right..he just got which arm wrong which is easy to do since you only wear the cord with dress blues and they are rarely worn at all.

Reservists and guard get the exact Same training as active duty. The difference is held in what they do AFTER training is completed. Full time active duty, part time reserves, FULL time active reserves, or part time guard.

It’s about 30 minutes until POV ceremony. Derrick is still not up so Caleb goes to wake him in the HN room. Caleb tells Derrick he still isn’t sure what he is going to do. He talked about Frankie a bit. I think Caleb is going to put him up he is just not telling Derrick. I would think Caleb would have had to tell production by now…

T, I really haven’t paid that much attention to Caleb’s illustrious military career, but I think he was in the Kentucky National Guard and transferred to Army in Texas? The cord is awarded for completion of Infantry training. It signifies that you are Infantry. It’s not so much a decoration as it is an insignia of sorts, if that makes it clearer. Caleb was a Specialist in the Infantry. He didn’t lead jackshit.

Depending on how long he spent in the Guard before transferring to Army, he could have completed his service obligation upon his return from Iraq, which would explain only spending a year in the Army before discharge. His Guard service would count toward time in service.

Upon checking, parents and significant others may bestow the cord at the ceremony.

You didn’t comment on the last post I made, there is a difference between National Guard and Army Reserve. Caleb was Guard, not reserve, I think. Then transferred to Army.

I’m sure we are in for more enlightenment from caleb. He’ll regale us with stories of his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Joint Chiefs any moment now.

I don’t watch the show myself, though all that someone would have to do is report Caleb to Stollen Valor dot com, ideally with links to filmed scenes in which Caleb is making claims about his supposed military awards and honors for the sake of enhancing his position in a reality show competition. If there is reasonable cause to believe that Caleb has violated law pursuant to the Stollen Valor Act (of 2013); “The law amends the federal criminal code to make it a crime for a person to fraudulently claim having received any of a series of particular military decorations with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit from convincing someone that he or she rightfully did receive that award.”

I don’t understand the difference between the Reserves and the Army. A friend’s husband had done 2 tours in Iraq, at a FOB, flying a Blackhawk. I think his rank is Major now. How is that different than the experience he would have had in the “real” Army?

With all Caleb’s lies it’s easy to think his military service is untrue. But maybe he didn’t decide to reenlist at the end of his tour. I thought the tours were 3 years long? That’s long enough to get through specialized training and go to Iraq for a year.

Bendy, the reserves are “real army”. They spend time active and inactive. A lot of Reserves and a lot of the Guard have been on active duty and deployed since the start of both wars, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Also, Anyone in the Army who completes their service obligation on active duty, still has a period of time when they can be recalled. This is different than the Army Reserves, however. The Reserves train during periods when they are not on active duty. Discharged vets do not.

    Paul Reynolds
WOW, YOU GUYS WILL STOP AT NOTHING, Caleb’s claim was that he was the LAST INFANTRY UNIT to leave Baghdad! This is true. Many units stayed longer but they were Military Police and support as well as engineer units. Caleb and two of his brother served a combined 5 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I realize Caleb tells a lot of stories in this game of deception but having been in combat myself I can’t tell you what it feels like for me to try and sleep at night knowing I had three sons that I knew were in harms way, not knowing if the Chaplin was going to pull up in front of my house every day. Yes Caleb served his country with honor and distinction, and had a very difficult tour at that. I have really tried to remain professional and maintain as Much dignity as possible on these boards but some of the comments I have read on here makes me wonder what has happened to America. Just because you don’t like Caleb or perhaps even hate him doesn’t make it ok for you to jump on the Slander Band Wagon. This thread started with no merit to the accusations at all, in fact it is a thread designed to place doubt of his Military Service in the minds of all who read it. To the author of this thread SHAME ON YOU, and you are forgiven. To those Haters who have jumped at the chance to trash a kid who spent 15 mths of his life scared to death that he may never come home SHAME ON YOU. For any of you on this board who has ever served in combat and know of the pain that doesn’t go away, pray for these who take the service of our brave men and women for granted.

So he’s confirming that Caleb only did one tour and pretty much nothing else right? There’s a lot of obfuscation about combining his three sons tours for a total of five, but later says Caleb “had a very difficult tour at that”. No where does he dispute that Caleb was a military guard at a prison and didn’t “lead an army”.

Also, no one has mentioned in this thread at all that Caleb lied about going to West Point before he was called out by Derrick. I’m sure no one wants to call him out on his military service because can you imagine the backlash on them for that from the viewing public?!

I was USAF but my dad is a retired Army BG and my brother was Army. In the Army, you can choose a combination of 8 years for your enlistment (i.e. 2 years active and 6 years I.R.R. or Guard/Reserve status / 4 and 4 / 6 and 2).

It is possible Caleb did a 2 year active stint and the other 6 as a Reservist or Guard. So, to answer about being able to just quit a ‘unit’ or ‘base,’ YES, it is possible if you are Guard or Reserve. You simply apply to be in another unit and transfer. It is very different from active duty military where you are stationed where they send you.

Wearing the cord on the wrong side bothered me, but he seems be so caught up in lies right now that he continues to embellish.

As someone who is currently in my 16th year of active duty I can say I knew Caleb was full of it from the moment he started talking about his time in service. He couldn’t even get past D when reciting the phonetic alphabet however, I am not as outraged as other non-military people seem to be about it. #1, I am a die hard, up all night feed watching super fan since season 2 and I understand that being in the BB house is an unnatural experience and inevitably people will lie about all kinds of things. No big deal, it’s a game, and if they can live with what they have done or said, who am I to play the moral police and pass judgement? I’ve never been in the house, I don’t know what it’s like to be cut off from the world and completely consumed with playing the game. I take BB for what it is, a entertaining TV show and I don’t let anything get to me personally. #2, feed watchers have gotten to know ole beast mode cowboy pretty well this summer. We are all well aware that 95% of anything that comes out of Calebs mouth is BS and the humorous part is that we know that this has nothing to do with strategy, nor are his tall tales part of some master plan. Caleb lives in his own little world where he has created an amazing imaginary life for himself. He tells each made up story with such conviction that we know he actually believes what he’s saying. That being said, I don’t get how anyone is remotely surprised that Caleb would turn his time in service into him being a war hero when all he really did was sit in front of a door with a gun for 12 hours a day and check ID cards. Or that he turned learning self aid and buddy care (basic medical treatment lessons that all service members train on once a year) into him being a few classes short of being a EMT (that one cracked me up). I think if it was anyone besides Caleb making this stuff up, I might be slightly offended by his military service lies, but it’s Caleb, a young man who obviously must feel his real life is so insignificant that he has to embellish every single aspect of his life to others to constantly make others believe that he is much better then he really is. I believe that after Caleb walks out of the BB house and onto that red carpet in the back yard with his tuxedo on (that BB is buying him) and he signs his autograph for the thousands of beast mode fans (which just may include Justin Beiber) and his security detail saves him from the thousands of women who will be screaming his name and throwing themselves at his feet, Good ole Beast Mode Cowboy will get punched dead smack in the middle of his face with a gigantic dose of reality. All of his tall tales have been documented and will be laid out for him to see. I believe it will be as epic as the moment that Edward Norton realized that he was actually Tyler Derden in Fight Club (I would literally pay money to witness this happen BTW) Beyond all the BS, I believe Caleb is truly a good guy and is actually pretty talented. I hope once Caleb world finally implodes he can focus on real life and really become the person he wants people to believe that he is. I am also 100% certain, this is not the last we will hear of Caleb Reynolds. The guy is TV gold

Speaking as a former Infantryman, I will say that having a family member put on your blue cord is something that can and does happen with some regularity. Same thing with a lot of decorations in the Army. I’ve seen Airborne wings, for example, pinned on by Grandfathers who jumped into Normandy. Receiving your cord is an honor and the military loves to combine honor and tradition – even family tradition. It’s also possible he served at a prison as an 11B – we had all sorts of duties, pretty much asked to fill in wherever we were needed. Having said that, I think he’s generally full of crap about a ton of other things, and oddly enough, that fits the idea of him being Infantry perfectly. I can’t tell you how many guys I served with that could be trusted to put their life on the line for you but couldn’t be trusted for anything else.

A few points. Yes Caleb is an idiot and the cord goes on the right shoulder. However, I think you’re a little unclear on a few things. One, his father CAN present him with his infantry cord at his ceremony. Prior service family members, spouses and/or parents can and usually are if present, given the honor of pinning awards, rank promotions etc on their soldiers. So he could have meant that he asked his father to present it to him at his ceremony up on completion of AIT.

Secondly, he can definitely work in Iraq prisons if he was infantry or a combat medic. The needs of the army supersede your MOS when it comes to deployments. All soldiers with any MOS can work as security, prisons, personal security detail etc. especially if that are in an area in which their specific MOS isn’t operational. For example, my husband at the beginning of OIF Was missle/rocket launcher. During first deployment in the start of OIF he did just that. On his second deployment to Iraq, they did not have a need for his unit to deploy such devices so they utilized them in other ways. Positions my husband has held over his OIF tours aside from his primary MOS were PSD (personal security detail in which he received a bronze star), prison security and NBC (nuclear biologic chemical weapons). So yes Caleb very well could have worked in the prison and based on his infantry cord, I’d wager in favor of his comment of his prison work. Currently, my husband no longer has the primary MOS in rockets etc as it’s not being utilized in the army. He has reduced that to secondary and reclassed his primary to Military Police in which on his tours to Afghanistan again he did not perform specific MP jobs. The needs of the army trump all other things.

As far as the flag goes, I’m sure he means flying it on soil as in over the area, in the US. It’s a common phrase used meaning in that ” land region etc”. He literally didn’t mean in the dirt. He’s a moron as clearly he was not in the unit that was last to leave Iraq. That’s a tall tale if I ever heard one however many soldiers bring back flags etc and he stated he gave it to his mother. NOT that it was presented to her. Aka he brought it back and let her have it as a momento of her sons deployment. Personally my husband never brought one back as he feels it’s a bad omen. However, give the country hick a little credit. He’s not wrong in most of what he says

Thanks Mandy! I appreciate your explainations. Please thank your husband for his service and thank you for your service as well as a military wife.

The more I’ve thought about this whole thing, I just have to say… no matter if Caleb has told some “big fish” tales on what he did in the military or not, bottom line is he DID serve our country, so I thank him for that. Big time.

I normally would too, lori, but I don’t. If you look up to the interview where he says he wanted to fight people for a reason and was pissed he was stuck with jail duty and was done with it…No thanks from me.

I get it. Then again, with Caleb you never know what part of his statements/stories are the true ones. Like a lot of times he just wants to sound so macho. For all we know, in reality, inside he may have actually been terrified to fight. I don’t like or understand the ones who just want to go kill people though, like they enjoy it, at ALL. Those people scare me. I didn’t watch that video, so you’d know better than me on this one.
