Million Dollar Listing New York Recap: East Coast v. West Coast

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Upfront - 2014

I am TWO episodes behind on this show. I am going to try to knock one out now and the other in the morning. Sorry for the delay. Lots of real life distractions this week.

Fredrik

Fredrik has a new listing with Ari for $9.9 million. It’s beautiful except for the kitchens and the bathrooms. The seller is agreeing to foot the bill for renovations, which is good but I foresee issues with that. Fredrik has a potential buyer already. He is either really amazing, or very fortunate, or both. Lots of negotiation over price and  renovations. They eventually get $9.5 million which is exactly what Fredrik said in the first place.

Oh shit. It sounds like the buyer was not qualified. Fredrik says Ari is going to chop his Swedish meatballs off. Ari says if he doesn’t sell it by the 15th he will rent it and take it off the market. Everyone hates the kitchen and bathrooms and for good reason. Fredrik is trying everything to find a new buyer who is actually qualified. Why the hell wasn’t the last one pre-qualified? Who shows a $10 million dollar property to any chick who wanders buy with a fugly dog in a Louis Vuitton bag? Fredrik has nothing and the clock is ticking.

Surprise Bitch!

Ryan

Ryan, the douchebag, is still having problems with his relationship with his girlfriend, Emilia. I doubt this is new territory for him. Ryan has a client who wants him to fly to LA and represent him on a purchase. Is he licensed to do business in California? Ryan’s client whose name is Light (WTF?) picks him up on the tarmac. Did he fly private?

Other than the view, and the pool, I really HATE the bachelor pad. It’s dreadful. Ryan treats the California seller’s agent like crap. His negotiating skills are terrible. They do not come to an agreement. Ryan is afraid to call Light. At the last minute, the sellers agent calls with the price Ryan wanted. Deal done.

Wow, Ryan only started in real estate five years ago? He goes to the opening of NestSeekers in Beverly Hills. Emilia calls and agrees to have dinner with Ryan when he gets back to NYC.

Luis

Luis  is still dealing with Ian the asshole that Sonja introduced him to.  I really want him to dump this guy. Ian wants half of the commission without doing any of the work. Ian really wants to keep the listing because it’s a $12 million dollar listing, his biggest one yet. Ian has Luis pick up his dry cleaning which makes him late to meet the buy with Ian. Ian tells the client that Luis is late like it is his fault. Luis had to pay for the dry cleaning and he missed the meeting. Ian makes inappropriate jokes in front of the client. Ian insults Luis in front of the clients. Ian is an asshole. Ian has Luis walk the dog.

Luis got an off for $11 million all cash. Ian’s exclusive buyer who was an exclusion (Luis will not get a commission) has offered $11.5.  Luis has 18 hours to get a full offer from his buyer or he gets the shaft. Luis can’t get in touch with his buyer. Luis is having a major breakdown.

Luis gets the full ask offer. Ian is still a dick. He is worried his buyer will fall through and his buyer will move on. Ian accepts the offer. Tells Luis he was deliberately fucking with him to see if he would go the extra mile. He gives him a larger split in the commission. Luis is ecstatic! It is his biggest commission ever.  Ian continues to call Luis, Ricky.

I love this show. It make me feel good to watch. Especially, Luis.

I think I’m the only person who likes Luis the least. I still like him, just not as much as the others. Ryan is a douche, for sure, but for some reason I like him. Might explain a lot of my exes.

I hated the California house. SO MUCH. And also was totally confused about how Ryan was licensed to sell there. Also, I think the manager of the Bev Hills Netseekers was Marissa from RHoBH.

I only started watching this show a couple weeks ago, but have seen every single episode now. I hate the LA version. I’m thinking maybe I should be living in NY, I do love all the places they show.

I love Luis, and like Fredrik. Ryan seems to be such an ass…. perhaps he is just playing it up for the camera.

Thanks for the great recap TT.
I watched this episode twice and missed the ending with Luis both viewings. Wow I’m shocked Ian finally treated Luis fairly. I never would had seen that coming.

I can see why Ryan has done well in a short timein NYC real estate, he has the confidence in himself.

Did you notice the tie in with Marisa Zanuck formerly of Selling LA and formerly of RHOBH at the opening of NestSeekers Beverly Hills? I wonder if that will be leveraged at some point. ..hmm

I recognized Marissa too. Apparently she has switched to new brokerage. I believe she was with Hiland & Hilton, or whatever it was called, Maurico’s brother- in -laws company. I don’t think she went with Maurico when he opened his own. Wasn’t there some controversy, maybe only among viewers, who would get the big commission from selling her inlaw’s big estate? I CRS anymore. I know she got it in the end, as she should have.

Luis is my NYC favorite, I’m almost always for the underdog. He did one sleazy thing early on, he learned from that.

I like LA, but I adore this show. I don’t love Ryan and certainly wouldn’t want him representing me. Actually, I wouldn’t any of them ripping me, but I love Luis and Frederick for their quirkiness and cuteness.

The selling agent also works for NestSeekers. That is how they got away with that mess. Mike from Shahs just signed with them as well.

Do I recall correctly that Reza said Mike didn’t want to work but expected money to drop from the sky and then when their partnership broke up Mike said he was returning to commercial real estate where the real money is. Mike did strike me as a lazy guy who relies on dreaming big. So now he’s back to residential real estate again?

Yeah, that comment about Mike going to Nestseekers seemed odd to me too. He doesn’t have a client base for residential….

I do love this show, and I love the LA show too. The properties on both shows are what I love most to see. Luis, Fredrik and Ryan entertain me to no end (could be I’m easily entertained, but I don’t care, I really dig this show). Ian was a putz. I do not know how Luis put up with him. I know that’s how he earns a living, but Ian deserves a kick in the balls. There’s something wrong with him IMO. When his dog peed on the floor, Ian picked him up and did some sort of happy dance, kissing on the dog, calling him a good boy for pissing in the house. It might have been just for the camera (which is still weird) or not, but I think even the dog was embarrassed for Ian.

Thanks to in laws visiting from out of town I was two episodes behind as well. Getting caught up now. I too questioned Ryan being licensed to sell in CA but then when they showed the Nest Seekers opening it was obvious why he was there. The sell was just storyline. It worked, they made him look even more douchier than he already did.

So glad it worked out for Luis. Wish he’d been able to dump the asshat client but he does need commissions to stay in business. I still can’t believe I am rooting for him. Couldn’t stand him last season.

I like Luis, too. He’s the only one of the three I’d trust. I like that, re Fredrik’s apology, Luis said he forgives but doesn’t forget. He’s wise.
It was interesting to see the photo of him with his old eyebrows. I wish he would have them plucked less archy; otherwise, he looks perfect. Love how he dresses.
Ryan treats people badly. He’s a big ass.
Fredrik: The apt. the European woman got for 9.5 is so adorable and beautiful. She is so lucky.
I find myself wanting to know about some of the clients and sellers: How did they get their money, what are their other places like, etc.
I want that big painting with the polka dots.
Does anyone know if the 9.5 included furnishings?

There’s no reply option for your post to me, so I’ll do it here:
Hi, and thanks. 🙂 I obviously have to watch MDL more closely. I’m so behind on this and the HW ones except Atlanta, though Husbands Revealed keeps putting me to sleep.

Question to self: Is I ever goe un a watch it?
