I’m a bit behind because I have been keeping one eye on the tragedy at Fort Hood tonight. My mind is a bit distracted by that, and my heart is with those affected. I spent some time today watching the season two marathon since for some reason I stopped watching this show. That marathon really hooked me back in.
I think all of these guys are smarmy but still likeable. Fredrik is diabolical, Ryan shows his cards too quickly. He totally dropped the ball for his client on 250 Bowery last season. He called Fredrik up, who was desperate to move property, and straight up said I have a client who will do anything to get in the building. Who does that? The female brokers tend to walk all over Ryan too, and Fredrik as well to some degree. Luis is young and green and eager. But they are all pretty!
Holy Crap! Ryan’s new listing is SOFA KING cool! A car elevator! A twenty-three million dollar penthouse with a car elevator. Luis’s new listing is too die for as well. I love the custom library that he says is too specific. Then again, I’m a retired reading teacher with a shit ton of books, who likes to travel to weird places and bring back odd objets d’art. I do hate the kitchen. And most of the furniture. But I love the central park west location. Oh God. I was wondering who the weird guy on the couch was. It’s their son, Todd. Who is a realtor with no experience who tried to sell it himself. His mama says to get the listing he has to co-list it with Todd and teach him the ropes. I would have told mommy the spilt would be 80/2o. Luis just agreed to take on an anchor around his neck and spilt the money with him. Oh Luis. So young, so much to learn.
I thought Ryan’s video idea was fantastic. But then we get to budget.
Luis’s albatross is getting a makeover. He has a wallet that looks like a Blimpie sandwich. I love that Luis raps in Spanish. Luis is so cute. Until he stands near normal-sized humans.
I LOVE that Fredrik has a seller that is as big of an asshole as he is. I never knew that was possible. It’s fun to watch a frustrated Fredrik. It always a bad think when the client shows up at the broker’s open. It’s even worse when they follow the broker around. Fredrik has never been to Canada?
Luis has a great attitude about Todd, he really is training him which is sweet. He’s coaching him on the art of the cold call. Um, Todd is the worst cold caller ever. Luis is very good at cold calling. Todd has some social interactions difficulties.
Ryan’s garage in the apartment with the glass floor “sky vault” is SO BEHIND on construction. The movie will have to wait. Fredrik sold the listing with the difficult client. Luis is still working with Todd.
Is it just me or was that so much more fun than the housewives. I’ve got to get y’all off the housewives teat. Let’s move forward to show that don’t make us feel ooky and angry. Life is too short. Walk into the light with me!
I love MDLNY. I will take them any day over most of the housewives at this point.
Adding in Flipping Out it is the perfect Wednesday tv viewing.
Agree! I’m a Survivor fan and it comes on before MDLNY and Flipping Out. My cup runneth over 🙂
I agree, I am soo over all of the HW shows. I only read the recaps at this point. I can’t with the arguing, acting embarrassingly stupid, ignorant attitudes. Every.single. one of them. I can’t anymore. They need to give us new faces. My fave Bravo show is MDLNY. I love watching the deals, the negotiations, and love the real estate. Ryan, Fredrick ahd Luis are so different from each other, and so fun to watch. It’s a great show. Wednesdays with this, and Thursdays with Scandal and I am a happy girl.
Reaching for the light!
Thank you! We all have our own darkness to fight. Why revel in others instead of finding our own? Hell I may even recap SUPER SOUL SUNDAY on OWN but frankly that is one of my own sources of light.

@ TT: Please expound. Are you saying it’s time to move on from the housewives’ drama? I agree.
I don’t mind recapping the HW, but everyone is so hateful. I don’t get the hate. They do stupid shit for us to mock. And there is such a jealous response. These people are attention whores who are stupid enough to go on reality TV. Do we have to insult their mamas and their physical attributes? Is this what we really want to do as women? I am not saying they are not horrid people, I am saying why not watch something else at this point.? It has jumped the shark. We have REAL ACTRESSES out there. It’s not reality TV. Let’s move on!

@ TT: You said it perfectly, the HW “jumped the shark.” Watching the RHOBH reunion just made me feel icky.
May I say, you are on FIRE tonight!
Longtime blog admirer. Love your (and your commenters) observations and wit. I play well with others and follow rules. (mostly
Thank you! We can still talk about the rachet mess that is the housewives for a bit. But might I suggest, Scandal, The Blacklist, and Million Dollar Listing New York as starter shows to lead you to salvation? xoxo. And 10 Tamara Tokens for your first comment!
Tamara tokens? I didn’t get any token.
Totally agree with you on watching the shows with REAL actors, not people who get their script from their cell phones as a scene plays out.
I’ve already given up RHOOC, RHOM, RHONJ and now RHONY.
If I want to watch good drama, I’ll tune in to Person of Interest (5 thumbs up), Blacklist, etc.
The question is, if “reality tv” fully becomes a thing of the past, what’s Bravo going to do??? Maybe that’s why Andy left?
I’ve been a MDL fan, HGTV fan and Flipping Out fan, I enjoy these people.
They are pretty, intelligent and yes, smarmy, what a great word.
Into the light I will follow.
TT: I’ll follow you into the light IF there is moonshine involved. 🙂
The last time I had moonshine, I took stuck a toe in the lady pond! And I liked it! lol

Yes on million dollar listing, and another vote for flipping out recaps too. The real housewives series just make me feel gross these days. As much as I enjoy your recaps I support at least a hiatus from the stress of watching the ladies tear each other apart in the pursuit of screen time.
Agree with everyone on both shows and I too am tired of hateful rich women with no real problems.
There is a new show called “Cressley (or Kingsley?) knows best.” I’ve caught a couple of episodes and so far it’s been pretty entertaining.
I like that show too.
Oh, Chrisley knows best? I love that. I watched a bunch of them the other night. He is hilarious. And those kids! Love it
That man is freakin’ hilarious! Todd Chrisley, the gayest straight man to ever walk the planet Earth. I fully expected to be annoyed by him but fell in love with the show within 2 minutes.
I also enjoy the Chrisley’s show and they seem to be a close family living a genuine and rich life. None of the BS back biteing and slander of HW. UNTIL, I read about Todd’s bankruptcy filing claiming he has only $600 in wardrobe and other crap. He bragged on the show about spending $2500 a month on clothes. I thought building a new ritzy department store in today’s market was questionable. It must have been just BS storyline. I was sad my bubble was burst, thanks to this info being on Twitter.
Yes, I too enjoy the real estate shows and a lot of non HW. Almost anything Bravo puts out is just fluff or fuss. Married To Medicine starts Sunday. I will try to refrain from watching. Last season it was worse than RHOA for fighting and women being unsupportive of each other.
I am going into the light with you. I have 6 episodes of BH Housewives that I am going to erase. After reading your recaps of the hateful things they did to Lisa, I am done.
Plus, you’ve already got me hooked on the Blacklist and Scandal, so I Have plenty to keep my DVR busy. Thank you for giving me permission to quit all the HW. Too hateful and negative. I would rather look at stunning houses I can’t afford.
I love Million Dollar Listing. Fredrick is my favorite. He loves the game. Didn’t Ryan used to be in soap operas? It is just funny to see him selling property.
Yes, I think Ryan was in a soap, he said he was a hand model in Miami for a time too. These guys are funny.
He was and he’s mentioned it on the show. According to Wikipedia – “In 2007, Serhant landed the role of Evan Walsh on As the World Turns.”
Tamara, while I sit here and watch the ongoing news regarding Fort Hood, it reminds me that there are people out there with real problems as opposed to the Housewive’s faux problems. It just breaks my heart. I will definitely start watching Million Dollar Listings. I used to watch the Beverly Hills MDL but I guess it wasn’t popular enough to renew. Thanks for everything. Your blog is such a delight to me. Sorry if I sound cheesy but when shootings like this (or any shooting really) it makes me emotional. Actually it doesn’t have to be a shooting. When those young firemen in AZ all died not too long ago, (26 of them if I remember correctly?) it felt like we all lost a loved one. So I couldn’t agree more that we need to give the negetivity a rest. Very good advice. Million Dollar Listings, here I come.
Actually they do still make MDL-LA. Andy loves that cast but I think he loves Grandma Edith even more.
TT I follow Frederick on Twitter and his photos are always good ones. He seems like a good guy to the people close to him and a shark for his clients. His husband is Georgous and there are lots of photos of him without his shirt…I’m not mad when I see either one. Let’s just say I like pretty things and leave it at that.
LOL! I like the pretty too!!! I love Frederick, he’s kinda crazy, but I guess to be that much of an egotistical go getter, you’d have to be.
Oh Tamara, I was having a bad morning, and knew your brilliant wit would cheer me up… get us off the housewife teat! LOVE IT! Thanks, I needed a laugh!
MDLNY is my favorite. I don’t bother watching the housewives since they seem to be chosen on the basis of how repellent they are. If it’s not the nasty rudeness it’s the wannabe ghetto verbal aggression…and if that falls short they can always get some butt ugly surgery to make themselves look like something best described by the words “nature’s cruelest mistake”
It looks like this season it’s Ryan’s turn to be the bad buy. Fredrik, when he’s not in his show character seems a really sweet guy. Just genuinely decent which was borne out by his definition of power as something to use to do good—and I LOVE his hubby Derek. Derek is so sane and level headed, he’s a wonderful antidote to the over the top antics.
Ryan, Ryan, Ryan…sigh…what to say? A wannabe film actor who went into real estate as an alternative to waiting tables? I like Ryan but it’s obvious his heart-of-hearts is in the fame game.He even thinks in cinematic terms which really came in handy with his idea for the video.
As long as the Lifetime Movie Channel needs guys to play smarmily handsome husbands who are secretly planning to off their wife for her life insurance Ryan has a future. He could also play the hard hearted exec. whose life is changed by the Christmas Miracle Of Love on the Hallmark Channel.
Luis is just too young, open and puppyish to play the bad guy at this stage. His heart is too light and I’m beyond impressed by the generous way he really tried to help Todd.
What I want to know is who the hell told Todd he should go into a people-oriented field like real estate in an image conscious city like New York? His parents should be ashamed of themselves for not helping him to smarten himself up. It’s not like they’re paupers—obviously. Seriously, Luis might have to train the guy to make cold calls but he should NOT have to teach a grown man—whose parents are OBVIOUSLY still very deeply committed to helping their son succeed professionally—how to dress himself.
yeah, Todd is a little socially ackward. I don’t think selling would really be his forte…his parents got to know…but what a sweety Luis was last night. He last season bordered on swarmy for me, but this really touched me.
I’ve been a fan of Million Dollar Listing – both LA and NYC versions. Like all Bravo shows, they have become more scripted, less spontaneous and more outrageous in each subsequent season – but I still love the peek inside the listings. I also find Louis adorable. I, too, wondered why he didn’t argue for an 80/20 split with the weird child/man Todd. However, when the subtitles came up, it said under Louis something like “135,000 potential commission” and only “45,000” for Todd. So, while they didn’t show the conversation, the split was more like 75/25.
I am shocked, I think Luis might grow on me this season. Couldn’t stand him last season. Ryan is and will always be a douche but he can be hilarious. Fredrik, love him to pieces and if I ever win the lotto I don’t play, I’ll want him as my realtor. Loved the beginning when he was getting calls from all over the world and he says, “Nebraska? I don’t even know where that is!”.
so: i am aghast, but i find myself rooting for luis + frederik. this was not the case last season. further, i believe someone has also said this, but my heart actually breaks for todd – he obviously isn’t self-aware enough to recognize that real estate is not for him [luis was so VERY kind and gentle, truthfully], and his parents are guilty of pushing their child into certain failure.
does anyone know when “million dollar listing: l.a. comes back”, if it is at all?
Late summer/early fall. It was picked up for another season (and a Miami spinoff) last October after hitting a ratings high for the finale episode which was the episode that Altman proposed.
I thought they were done, so this makes me happy.
Love the to watch just to see the crazy over top homes that go millions.
They always show the great views, but unless you are facing the Park you need to keep your curtains closed or you will be on display.
I love your blog so I’m pleased to hear you are into MDLNY. All the guys are amusing and fun to watch. And yes it’s a nice change from the strangely petty sturm and drang of The Real Housewives.
It’s light but entertaining fun.
So, I watched my first MDLNY. I didn’t think I’d like Fredrik, but he’s pretty funny. He makes a lot of goofy faces. It looks like his good looking Aussie husband and he are gonna have a problem in the scenes from the next show because, “good looking Aussie husband” doesn’t want to be a stay at home house husband. It also shows Ryan’s girlfriend unhappy with Ryan, I’m way behind. I’ll have to catch up if I can. Luis is a cutie. Love his accent. Love the way he embraced his assignment with Todd, the poor bastard. I don’t mind that he’s a small guy, he has a very large personality. I have never been further east than Boston, so seeing NYC on this show is pretty swanky and fun. I love seeing the properties. They steal the show.
BTW, I can’t wait for MDLLA. Madison is my favorite even though he’s the underdog.
Another good show on Bravo is Million Dollar Decorators. I hope that comes back. I’ve found myself slowly backing away from Housewives as well. First I couldn’t take the negativity of NJ because family at each others’ throats just wasn’t fun drama for me. Then the OC came off the DVR because Tamra was just too mean for me. Like pretty much everyone I hated this season of BH. I skipped the first two reunion shows and just read the recaps. I made the mistake of watching the third one and I was so angry during it and still long afterwards at the ganging up that I really started questioning the effect of these shows on my emotional health. I will give BH another chance next year if Lisa’s back and Brandi’s gone. Otherwise, it’s out of the rotation too.
Will you also consider blogging Chrisley Knows Best? They are a kooky and “wealthy” family with very real issues they are working through (ex eldest son is a recovering addict with a biracial daughter, the matriarch of the family is a breast cancer survivor, etc.) and the dad has a wickedly quick sense of humor. They are very much the familial version of Flipping Out.
Thanks for considering!
