Obviously, I don’t blog about every show I watch. The singing competitions I normally just tweet about here and there. But I have become very invested in The X Factor this season. I love the judges, and the new quick and dirty way the show got rid of all the non-contenders. I love all the judges, especially the Latina Paula Abdul, Paulino Rubio who calls all of her contenders Carlito Olivera. You have to admit, Carlito Olivera may be the greatest name for anyone ever.
This season has done a really good job of getting me invested in the show. They run lots of back stories on the final contestants. You know how when the Olympics are on they show some sort of heart-wrenching story about the athletes before they compete so that you have a reason to root for a Jamaican bobsled team? It’s like that.
The problem is that all three of my favorites are in the top three. First, there is Carlito Olivera. The cute hot guy with the Latin flair. He’s an underdog that just keeps fighting. He has clawed his way into the finale. I love all of the top three and if he wins, I will be thrilled for him. But I think he has probably gone as far as he can go with this group.
Then there is Jeff Gutt. He’s another comeback story after being eliminated early on last season. He’s also got a backstory and a cute little son. He’s fantastic and he is a contender and if he wins, I will be thrilled for him and the positive changes the win will bring to his life. But he is up against some stiff competition.
And that competition is Alex and Sierra. I have loved them from the beginning but never really expected them to get to the end. They are a college couple who are dating. He is the singer with the dream, she was the girlfriend along for the ride. Until she got really comfortable with the attention on her and came out of her shell and blew past him a bit. She went from being the reason they didn’t get great comments from the judges consistently, to the reason they are probably going to win. Sierra’s growth has been phenomenal. I didn’t have enough faith in America that they would fall in love with this couple like I have. But they have. And for that reason, I expect these two to win. I hope they do. I would love them to be the next Sonny & Cher. We have not had a couple like that in decades. They are madly in love and madly talented.
So have you guys been watching? Who do you want to win?
I love Alex and Sierra. My votes are for them with Carlito Olivera coming in second. Unfortunately, I really don’t care for Jeff. Just not my type of singing/music.
I want Jeff to win.
I also want Alex & SIerra to win it. I voted mostly for them but also for Carlito to make it to the finals. I LOVE X-Factor! It gets better every year!
I completely agree with you about Alex and Sierra. I picked them from their first audition and I too didn’t think others would love then like I did. But they are truly unique and have gorgeous voices and there’s no one else like them on the market. Jeff Gutt needs to be picked up as a lead singer for a band. Carlos and Paulina – meh. Cruise ship worthy to me.
I would like Alex and Sierra to win BUT I would like ALL the judges to lose.
Simon isn’t really a judge since he’s the boss (I think) but the other three are very annoying. That PR chick (Paulina?) is the worst of the worst. I wonder if she understands her name is spelled V-A-P-I-D ?
She’s the Paula Abdul judge! She’s terrible which is why I love her! And all the women are hormonal and crying at the drop of a hat! I don’t want them to change a thing.
I’ve only seen this season on TV 2X. But when it got down to Top 6, I occasionally go to youtube and watch the performances. And I cannot emphasize more, like you, how much I cannot abide the Rubio woman. Who the hell is she anyway? On youtube I had to end up skipping her judging comments – she’s extremely difficult to understand, but more when she is understandable, she rambles on and on and on!
I really liked that last performance of Alex & Sierra “Say Something” – that was extremely worthy of winning by itself!
I haven’t watched The Voice OR The X Factor this year. Shame on me. 🙁
You didn’t miss the next Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble or Bono (off the top of my head as far as noteworthy vocalists:))
As far as X Factor and the Voice judging, I think the Voice judges are 100% more talented, non-irritating, and for the most part make constructive critiques. But, since I always liked the snark and many times accurate criticism that Simon showed on American Idol, I like him, except he’s not that way on X Factor. When iit gets down to his own teams, he usually feigns praise on performances that were so poor they were painful.
I would like to see a cross-over judges thing: Take Simon from X Factor and put him on the Voice with Christina, CeeLo, and Adam. I like Blake and the Voice judges’ chemistry, I just don’t like country music all that much and WMWG or YWFG singing country winning most of the time (white male with guitar and young white female girl)! (I really enjoyed when Usher and Shakira were on too.)
