Judge Stephens denied a defense motion to sequester the jury. The defense also requested sequestration of the new jury. That was also denied.
Arias’ motion for individualized voir dire by defense counsel was also denied. I don’t understand this, I thought the defense’s right to question the jury was a given. Best I can determine the defense wanted to do a preliminary voir dire with prospective jurors before they were even accepted into the pool. That request was denied.
Jodi’s request to have a new attorney appointed to replace Nurmi was also denied.
Sadly for us, one defense motion was granted and that is keeping the cameras out of the courtroom. One still photographer will be allowed it. It is unclear if reporters will still be allowed in the courtroom. I assume that they will be. That will cause a scramble for seats!
No word on a start date. The retrial of the sentencing phase should take about 2 months.
Do any of these rulings surprise you?
