I don’t normally blog about Scandal but I never miss an episode. In fact today, I watched the finale of last season to try to get myself back up to speed on what is going on. When last we left Olivia, she and the president were back to moving on without each other. He sucked up to his dreadful wife, and she went on about her business. The season ended with Olivia headed out for a run only to discover the paparazzi were swarming her building with questions about her cheating with the president. She is whisked into a limo and we suddenly find out that mean man who was forcing Cyrus to break them up is dum…da..dum dum! Her father!
What does it all mean? What will happen this season? Will Olivia be the next first lady? Will that dreadful vice president actually run against Fitz? Who will Huck and his female partner in torture drill holes through this season? I am on the edge of my seat to find out.
This is a show that takes my full attention due to the rapid dialogue that Shonda Rhimes is famous for. Speaking Shonda, here is part of an interview she did with Vulture recently:
So last season ended with Olivia being confronted by reporters who’d found out she’d been having an affair with Fitz. How will you kick off season three? When season three begins, I feel like we have some business to take care of. People are saying to Liv, “Are you the president’s mistress?” The first episode sort of leads to some very interesting negotiations between the president and the first lady and Olivia in a way.
What can you reveal about the overriding themes for some of the characters next season. Let’s start with Olivia. There’s a moment in the second scene of the first episode where you sort of discover that the Olivia you know now is a very different person than she used to be. I feel like we’re discovering that Olivia’s in this very interesting state of evolution, and we have no idea where she’s going to be at the end of this season.
And the president? I can’t say anything about him that’s not a spoiler!
How about the first lady? Everyone should remember that Mellie is smarter than anybody gives her credit for.
I am on the edge of my seat.
