Finally I have a minute to watch Siberia, a show I don’t recap per se, but instead make a post of some of my questions or suggested talking points. I still missed out on a few episodes due to a DVR glitch but I’m now back on board.
Right now the show is divided into two groups. One group (Carolina, Johnny, Sam and Daniel) left to go to “the beacon.” Because? Um? I dunno. They just did. The second group is everyone else who isn’t dead and they are at camp.
The Beacon Brigade wakes up after sleeping in a tree stump and makes a fire before Johnny decides everyone has to get going toward the Beacon. Sam’s frostbitten foot is somehow better without any treatment and he says he can walk. However, the beacon is no longer visible. Seems like they are fucked. Johnny swears he knows which direction to go, Carolina wants to stay put.
The BB stop wandering lost in the snow TO GIVE INTERVIEWS TO THE CAMERAMAN FOR TALKING HEADS! I mean of course they do. They are still being filmed. Sam confesses that his foot really isn’t better and he doesn’t think he is going to make it. Johnny confesses he doesn’t know where they are going and he might have gotten them all killed. Eventually they come across some sort of tower structure that Johnny climbs. While he is climbing, Carolina notices the Danger High Voltage sign but not before Johnny gets fried and thrown from the tower. It appears he is dead but Sam comes to save him.
Meanwhile the Camp Crew is having problems of their own. Irene has been dying for several episodes. If I recall correctly one of the women, the one who reminds me of Kelly Bensimon, poisoned her. I might be making that up. This is why I need you people, I don’t have the memory to follow a serious plotline this long. The Ukrainian guy, Miljan, has been itching to “put her out of her misery” for quite sometime. In fact last week he tried to smother her and Neeko and the Gang (which would be a great band name by the way) tied his ass up in the second cabin to keep her safe, but then Kelly Bensimon, being the dogfart that she is, untied him because he knows what she took from the revealer. Don’t ask. I have no idea.
So on this episode, the Camp Crew goes to see if Irene has died yet, but that is indeterminable because she is missing. Miljan is missing too! So they all assume he took her out in the woods to kill her. Off they go calling out find them. But what they find is a frozen woman’s hand sticking out of snow! OMG! POOR IRENE! Only it ain’t Irene at all! It’s Natalie! Who? Natalie, the chick who decided to leave when the first guy died. Okay I don’t really remember Natalie or why she left but they all thought she made it home alive. Did I say I am not recapping because this feels exactly like recapping. Anyway these people are crying like widows for some chick that they knew for a hot minute a few weeks ago.
Okay, apparently Kelly Bensimon is really named Esther. Esther immediately blames Miljan. But Sabina says Natalie’s stomach is missing? Because, um that is a thing that happens and then she says THIS WAS NOT DONE BY A HUMAN!! OMG HOLD ME! Annie refuses to leave Natalie’s body so Ester stays to help Annie bury the body (in solid ice with no tools) while the rest forge ahead. Hmm I guess for the moment “the rest” is just Neeko and Sabina.
Earlier, when Johnny suggested they spilt of the BB with half going back to the camp, Daniel said, “splitting up in a survival situation is the worst thing you can do.” And yet now we have three groups. Sabina has a breakdown and tells Neeko that she has a son by rape in an orphanage. While she was in the military, she attacked a high-ranking officer who was raping a girl and got discharged and was not allowed to have her son back. She came on the show to win money to find the kid. No matter how many times they spilt up, everyone seems to have a cameraman, yet there apparently isn’t one on Miljan and/or Irene.
Ester and Annie discover that burying a body is like, hard, y’all and they give up. Instead the make a little stick cross and have a mini funeral. Then someone knocks out their cameraman and everything goes black.
The BB finds its way to some sort of “Russian Science Institute” and they break in and go inside. Apparently there is electricity there. Daniel, who is supposed to be the smart one, immediately gulps down a green drink from the refrigerator. Then they hear a noise! Oh no! Something or someone is out there!
Neeko and Sabina find their way back to the “gravesite” but Ester and Annie are nowhere to be found. There are scary track marks leading away from the area. Sabina says………”I don’t think they made it back!”
So to recap, the um, recap… The BB are in a Russian Science Institute surround by something bad. We did not see Irene or Miljan at all this episode and now Ester and Annie have gone missing. That only leaves Neeko and Sabina at camp.
Um, Thoughts?
There are many different possible elements: Russian scientific experiments, nuclear fall out, aliens, prehistoric creatures, meteors crash sites, and maybe some other form civilization.
But the strangest scene involved Sabina. A few episodes back we saw the locket that she wears around her neck that has a photo of her son….She is walking in the woods and finds skeletal remains with an identical locket on the remains with the same picture of her son… She freaked and ran and left the locket behind with the skeleton…..I have no idea what is going on…. Maybe it is the father of her son?
All I have is questions, but no answers…. This only should be a one season show, and a suspension of belief is required because it is all so absurd, but I am hooked. I want to know what is going on in Siberia…I hope it doesn’t drag out with a thud ending like LOST..
After rereading the post title that “everybody may be dead”, I have another idea about the skeletal remains in the woods found by Sabina….Maybe the body is Sabina….In that episode the sky and atmosphere turned green. Maybe there is an element of time travel too?…..
The “beacon” reminded me of a Tesla Coil from a certain game…. I am personally fascinated with Soviet era Russia and the Warsaw Pact. And who is to really say the meteorite was a meteorite? Maybe the Experiment rescues them from the alien. Definitely better than the Survivor rip off it feigned to be in the first couple of episodes.
Someone already mentioned that Irene was speared, not poisoned, but I thought I’d add that they *did* in fact know Natalie pretty well… at least Annie did, since Natalie was her (brief) romantic interest. Natalie didn’t leave at the beginning, she only left the episode before the last one (I think… they’ve blended a bit).
Thanks for the great recap. I am confused at this point and just want to see what animal monster the Russian lab created. The previews for next week did not give me any clues.
I wish I could get on twitter and tweet this link, but twitter has been broken for me since this afternoon. /pouts
I thought it was very strange that they didn’t find Irene and whatshisface this episode or show them at all. I wasn’t expecting for everyone to get spread out. I think there are 12 episodes. This means there are three shows left….
Tamara… I missed your Jodi Arias, third grade Nobel laureates… Where’d they go…??? Cheerzzzz… Edgrrr… My email address, IS valid… spare me the censorship…
I never censor you! xoxo
I agree with UF- I think the body is hers, but it’s from the future. (I think?) and Irene’s leg got impaled by a man-made trap; it was a different woman Esther poisoned. (Or maybe it wasn’t MAN-made???)
I went back to the second episode and there were some hand drawn images on the entrance to the cave. They were definitely aliens or some type of strange creature. Very large, two long legs, with a large humped body, no neck. I definitely think there is an alien component. Especially with the large footprints in the snow with 2 toes.
Is there going to be a season 2? I’m ready for some answers already!
They went towards the beacon because it was the only thing that looked even remotely hopeful on their trek to find some help out of there after they found the producers/crew campsite had been destroyed with blood every where. I am very bothered that the camera men have not spoken at all during this. I mean what are they, robots? Like they wouldn’t be frightened and fighting for survival as well. And the one with the bb crew… everyone else was having a terrible time walking in the snow, freezing, with no food or drink to speak of, and not a peep out of him. I wish they would bring them into it. Would make for some new characters too.
The other thing that annoyed me was after finding natalie dead during their desperate search to find irene, how what’s her face started crying and neeko was like “what’s wrong?” In this tone like he was clueless as to why she was crying. Umm, why WOULDN’T she be crying with all that was going on. I mean I know her reason ended up being the story about her son, but the way he asked what’s wrong made me laugh. And just how they stopped in the middle of the desperate search to sit and tell/hear that long story. Lol Also, when they found natalie, the way they found her was they heard that music which was the music from that musical card that irene got. What happened to that whole thing? Did they forget that they heard it?
All that being said, I absolutely still love this show. I really really hope that the ending isn’t a disappointment. I look forward to Monday night’s like none other, between this and mistresses. That and Thursday night BB of course.
Ok, so we’re not going to talk about the fact that Miljan is likely possessed by the spirit of that old book he found, uh?
I am not sure I am smart enough for all the intricate plots of this show, That is why I need y’all to splain it to me!
He found this book/diary in the woods and he’s being all “my precious” with it. He carved a symbol from the book on his arm with a razor. Irene found him staring at something in the woods which he led her away from and to the “deer” which is how her leg got impaled. Turn out to be a totem or something. When Sabina and Esther were getting into it, he was giggling in the corner. Add to that the whole trying to kill Irene…
He started out as a guy more concerned with a showmance and has now gone psycho.
Oh I think I missed the book episode. Thanks.
