That crazy ass cracker who was suing Paula Deen for racial discrimination got her dumb white ass handed to her by a judge today. She still has a sexual harassment case to prove. I hope Paula sues the holy hell out of her stupid ass. Just thought I would share.
Yea!!! I wonder since this has happened if any of the businesses that dropped her will come crawling back to her? Nah, probably not, huh? I do believe that she’ll regain her popularity, maybe not on the same scale as it was before, but to some degree.
The quick reaction to the accusations makes me wonder if the sponsors who dropped her may have seen, sensed or heard something which made them feel uncomfortable. Or they felt the offensive behavior was a part of Ms. Dean’s character and therefore believable. Some may have told her to clean up the mess then come back for their support.
The sexual harassment is still on but that is mainly Bubba fault, I believe. However, since Paula also owns the business she is probably financially on the hook as I think he will lose! Poor Paula. She just turned down Dancing with the Stars, too. I think she needs to run to Oprah’s bosom and do whatever she advises. Maybe a show on OWN?
Well good for Paula. Hopefully she can recover and sue the crazy cracker indeed.
The racial discrimination case was thrown out because the plaintiff is white and was not a target of the discrimination. She was claiming harm by proxy saying a relative of hers was part black. Pretty ridiculous, but if one of Paula’s black employees sues her, the racial discrimination charge would not get thrown out. The sexual discrimination charge is staying because the plaintiff would have been directly affected by the allegations, if true. People need to read Paula’s deposition and the behavior that she admitted she knew her brother was engaging in. She was the owner of the restaurant and so there was no way she would’ve not been included in the suit along with her brother. I feel sorry for her personally, but she’s not the first celebrity done in by sloppy business practices.
The thing is, though, that the relative she claimed was black was, in fact, Puerto Rican. From what I’ve read, this relative is a child of someone who a true relative of her’s is dating. (I think I got that right, it’s been a while since I read it). As far as Bubba is concerned…….I hate, loathe & despise dirty old men…..I have very valid reasons to. If he did, indeed, do what he’s accused of, may he be punished to the maximum that the law allows. Where can I find Paula’s deposition?
Hehehe I love u Tamara! #agree
Why all of the slurs in this post? It’s disturbing. Anyway, Paula didn’t win anything. The judge dropped the discrimination part of the lawsuit because of her color. If I was an African American who worked for Paula and/or Bubba, I would be retaining a lawyer to get all discovery, depositions, testimony transcripts and anything else from Lisa’s lawyer to sue and maybe get a class action going.
i think the slurs were an attempt at humor…I think Ms Tattles was indicating which side of the fence she sits regarding this matter…I agree with your post, Paula won nothing and she is still open to many more lawsuits….Paula ain’t done getting kickced yet
so does this mean that PD didnt discriminate or that a white person cant bring that charge if they see discrimination taking place?
Steve, it doesn’t mean Paula didn’t discriminate, or that she did. It just means that the judge decided the plaintiff had no “standing” to sue Paula for racial discrimination when she was not directly harmed by that discrimination. I did read the deposition and I think the strongest evidence was going to support the sexual discrimination/harassment allegations anyway. There will probably be a confidential settlement. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future a number of Paula’s black employees over the years finally decide to sue her since this lady got the ball rolling. After all of the negative press, those might be settled quietly and confidentially as well. Just goes to show you don’t put your alcoholic, porn-loving, racially insensitive brother in charge of a restaurant with young girls and a diverse staff.
Actually it’s quite clear that Paula is a racist and did discriminate. This charge getting thrown out isn’t exactly a vindication of much.
Thank you… it is unusual when the comments make more sense than the initial post.
@AngieB ~ I couldn’t agree with you more. I feel bad for Paula, but if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas, and Bubba sounds like a real dog.
I won’t give Paula kudos just yet. She is culpable on many levels for many things which are not appropriate in any workplace. She shouldn’t be let off the discrimination hook so easily, even though Ms. Jackson and her representatives were unable to convince the judge. It’s common knowledge that Paul took advantage of her employees by paying them low wages; exposing them to inappropriate language in the workplace; and treating them in a [subservient] manner with her dominating attitude. Is she a racist, maybe or maybe not. Did Ms. Jackson’s and other employees’ claims cause Paula to evaluate herself, and make improvements in her attitude and business practices, hopefully. If, so, I will give her kudos for that, even if they were forced.
Sorry, but I’m team Paula all the way. She’s a successful, rich, Southern woman, and people want a piece of her pecan pie. I miss Food Network, but I refuse to watch after how they treated her.
I see. You’re happy to support a racist and a bigot because she’s an ok cook.
That’s your opinion. Your welcome to it. And I think she’s better than an “ok cook”, that’s my opinion. (I’ve ACTUALLY tried her recipes). If she was soooo terrible and such a wicked racist, why did her employees stay with her for so many years. Gimme a break. Like I said, looking for a pay-day.
Because she was making them money and then became too big a liability.
Really, you aren’t that naive, are you?
Naa, there has really been ZERO to indicate that Paula was a racist or a bigot. She said she used the word once 40 years ago after being robbed at a bank she was working at by a black man. No need to reargue the case, but what facts do you have that Paula was racist or bigotted? I’m actually asking to see a fact that proves she is a racist. If all you have are rumors, then I don’t see how you can make that statement.
I r
I miss Paula on food network, the show hasn’t been the same since she left. It was just disgusting what they did to her.
What exactly was disgusting about it? Aren’t you the same people who are screaming for Aaryn’s blood in all of the big brother threads?
I don’t ask for much but a little internal consistency would be nice.
I’m with you Cali. She made Food Network a lot of $$ and they just threw her away. I’m done with them.
I’m sure they’ll be heartbroken.
What they did to her? Don’t you mean what she did to herself? All they did was give her a platform to spread her heart killing recipes and pay her a lot of money to do so. Oh, instead of they…blame her drunk pervert brother too because he sure as shit had plenty to do with Paula’s downfall. That and her making the black women on her staff to dress up like Aunt Jemima and ring a dinner bell yelling “Come n git it” no that’s not racist. Not at all.
I enjoyed Paula’s cooking show as well. But, people can show one face to the public and another behind the scenes. I believe her behind the scenes bigotry was tolerated, because those affected by it didn’t want to lose their jobs. Let’s see, hmm, “do I want to complain today, or continue to provide food and shelter for my family.”
This isn’t the only “hot pot of water” Paula has been boiling in this past year or so, either. Have it on good authority who owes a multi-million $$ business – that if you own a company worth that much money… you NEVER risk your PR to shit you can settle outside of attorney’s conference rooms….EVER ! Either she’s insisted on making these executive decisions herself badly or she has really shitty advisors. Losing multiple major sponsership like this is HUGE and hard to get back on that scale again. Just like Forest Gump said… “Stupid is as stupid does !” Maybe she should have bought Bubba a shrimping boat instead ! NO business acumen. Oh Well ! ~ Pride cometh before a fall !! [something like that]
Well said JustUs.
to some extent true, to some extent not. often they try to bankrupt the plaintiff with their superior resources.
something about this plaintiff rubs me the wrong way but staying open minded because who knows the truth. the whole court process tends to drag out forever and it takes a while to need to actually get to the proof stage.
originally i liked paula deen’s hokeyness but she and her brother came off rather disgusting. that whole calling a victim a slut thing and how they treated staff is just gross. she clearly didnt give a shit about it til she lost work/sponsors. screw her, really.
HI chriscleo ! You’re correct, unless we’ve read the depositions or testimonies – we don’t know the truth and even that is elusive. But you wrapped up your reply exactly by noticing Deen’s comments. My Grandma used to always point out… “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear !” ~ No tact/ No class ! (…and thanks, Sasha ! 🙂
Not really a win for Paula! First she lied about diabetes until she got sponsors then she lies about her business practices. I wonder who’s southern rececipes she stole and never gave credit too?
According to some sources, Paula’s long time cook Dora Charles worked for her for 22 years. I’m sure they shared recipes and cooking styles. Dora’s pay was increased from $10 per hour at some point, but only after she filed a complaint. She’s the one asked by Paul to dress like Aunt Jemima and ring a bell while standing in front of the restaurant. Nope, it wasn’t racial…
There was a long expose about it. Paula promised Dora Charles they’d get rich together. Half of that was true.
Oh dear that is not Paula’s best pic
Oh Dear God… No it isn’t ! Just pleeezzz spare me Paula’s quivering voice and phony dry-crying on national TV, while she begs & pleads for people to “stone her !!” ~ I’m sure after a few tough business decisions she could be happy with less. Isn’t that supposed to be the beauty of “coming up” from the ranks of the downtrodden ??? Right ! ~ Isn’t life a bitch.
Paula had her own personal slaves and Dora Charles was the HNIC. Oops! I was born back in the time when that term was widely used…so said Paula. So that makes it o.k.
Stone me please.
Oh for fucksake. Y’all sure know how to try and convict someone without any facts AT ALL. Some white bitch tries to sure her for discrimination after decades of employment and first tries to extort her for 12 million dollars over a restaurant she has no direct supervision of…. and y’all jump right on the bus to run her over.
Did none of you grow up in the south where there was a dinner bell, really? Everyone is outside in the summer and the grandma rings the dinner bell? I am missing how that is racist. I think y’all are all a bunch of damn Yankees.
word TT
No dinner bells for me or ours ! TT. ~ But I think they still use them at Bob Evans (Down On the) Farm for tourist shows, though.
The concept of a dinner bell has no race. Many of her black employees have been extremely supportive, I have linked to several FB and news articles where they love her. Many of them are FORMER employees.
Just out of curiosity, how many non-black employees were asked to ring the bell and dress like Aunt Jemima.
I really love this site… it’s a good place to debate. It’s never boring.
There use to be a restaurant in Atlanta called Aunt Pittypat’s Porch. Red gingham tablecloths and so many Aunt Jemiah’s references it would be hard to name the all. BTW, Aunt Pittypat was a character in Gone With the Wind. Ask fabulous, GWTW fabulous, Kenya. She may know.
I think Pitty Pat’s is still there. But Lord, don’t tell these people. They have black folks waiting tables there and all sorts of plantation references. These fools will be down there picketing and suing by morning.
you must be kidding, right? i have read what i could and i did paraphrase what she said. i’m out of state on vacay or i’d find the exact quotes. based on what i saw she belittled the people complaining about her and her brother, made light of what he did. and wanted little n-s dressed as slaves. that didnt come out of nowhere. in this day and age a company can pay a steep penalty for condoning/ignoring illegal behavior. guess you havent had to deal with racis t stuff yourself or it might have struck a bigger chord. it stinks and it hurts, and when the person holding your paycheck does it you put up with crap for a while til you just can’t take it any more. i was born in the south but yes i’m a damn proud yankee.
Right on TT! These people claiming to have read the deposition, etc. and that the racist comments or belittling comments are in the deposition are of their rockers! NOWHERE in the depositions that I read did Paula state anything racist or belittling. And, if she’s such a racist why couldn’t the “white woman” find ONE BLACK EMPLOYEE or EX EMPLOYEE to back her accusations up for her? That’s all she needed. But, obviously that didn’t happen because she’s a liar that’s just wanting to get paid! I do believe Paula’s brother probably said some sexual things or whatever, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that Paula Deen IS NOT racist whatsoever. And, even if she did use the “N” word that still does not make her a racist! A racist does not surround themselves with people of color and allow them to run their business and cook their food! Get a brain people!
I grew up in the south, but, no bell.
Ive MADE dinner bells..*the steel triangles* for two different friends and they use them camping to call dinner because that steel ring carries farther than anything.
Hot diggity dog, we done made TT mad. Y’awl stop talking about Paula and that damn bell now.
I’ve spent years making her angry. lol
Sasha..how many non-black empoyees would look right dressed as Aunt Jemima? That character is not white.
Hi Steve. How many black people do you know who would agree to that. Especially if they were’nt hired as a bell-ringing [character] .
Gee, all she would need next is one of her bigger female employees dressed like some “Mammy” character while the strains of a Jolson song is playing in the background. What’s racist about that? Hell, they should be grateful for a job and not so uppity. Some people you just can’t help I guess.
Everything is racist about that. Bums me out that you’re from NY. I can only hope some outer borough.
It was part of the job. If you don’t like the job, go get a new one! Aunt Jemimah is not a bad person. Stop making her out to be that way.
Sasha this day and age i think if PD made a white girl dress as Aunt Jemimah then there would have been a black girl somewhere that would be offended a white person took their role. If people WANT to find negativity then they will.
Steve, please don’t consider my view as WANTING to find negativity. I usually show up here to get a better understanding about the comments which peek my interest. And, to give my spin on the subject matter. I don’t consider your view as negative. I FEEL, you may not understand my view. Just to get clarity…
If the bell ringing request was only about signaling dinner time, why was there a need for the African American women to wear the dress and scarf.
Miss Paula could have asked any one of her employees to go ring the bell. But, she didn’t. She asked, two different dark-skinned women to dress like Aunt Jemima and ring the bell, knowing what it would imply.
You do know that the first Aunt Jemima “character” Nancy Green, had dark-skin, was a former slave and a great cook. She and all the subsequent representatives on the pancake mix box were asked to dress like a traditional kitchen slave.
So, what was really in Paula’s mind?
How hard is it to understand that Aunt Jemima is a famous BLACK WOMAN who cooked for white people. And in the south, it is usually the person that does the cooking who alerts people to the dinner table be it a cheery “Supper is ready!” if the family is in the living room, or a bell ringing if on a large property where everyone is out by the horses, pool, croquet game, whatever. The COOK announces dinner whether it is your mamma, your nanny or the private chef hired for the evening.
I was simply commenting on “the” correlation between growing up in the south and the use of dinner bells… My short answer is – No, I did not grow up in the south, and No, nobody I’ve ever known used dinner bells to call people to eat. I more associate the dinner bell with farmers of the midwest or south western cattle ranchers calling in their hands. I imagine it beats yelling over great distances ! ~ Since the term “damn yankee” [a territorial slur] was mentioned, I would assert most Northerners are quite proud to have Union soldiers as ancestors who not only fought, but WON the civil war. The Grand Ol’ South & Southwest territory consisted of mass land & plantation owners who became VERY rich as a result of “FREE” or cheap slave labor with little or no investments, and in turn, amassed fortunes for power & influence in business & politics !!! – Really, no wonder why they would want to give THAT up ? The same STILL holds true today all over the world !! I believe old habits die hard and learned behavior can be unlearned ! ~ Prejudice is slick, when it’s a word game, it festers and grows… [s.stills]
Yes, JustUs. Miss Paula has a whole group of slaves working for her… so to speak. It’s like the old cotton pickers who slaved and sweated in the sun all day for the plantation owner, and were paid pennies. They were promised 40 acres and a mule. The parable, Paula’s head cook was paid $10 an hour, while Paula made/makes millions. When she first started the business, Paula promised the cook a chunk of her profits if they were successful. Nothing left the restaurant kitchen before the $10 cook tasted and approved it. Humm…
LOLOL. Source?
You’d like a source on which statement?
I am responding from my email and not the web….. but whatever was in the post you were rambling on about with accusations against Paula. It should be right above, no?
No. #rambling
This is a lost cause. Next.
You both do realize that a whole economy also kept slavery alive, right? Those northerners and westerners, and even Europeans were demanding more and more cotton. A part of the reason the original Aunt Jemiah dressed as she did was b/c it was sort of the dress of the era. We all until today dress in the clothes of our era. In other words, there were many people prepetuating their time and dollars. Today I truly thought that bc we know better we all do better.
I hope these comments about ringing bells and Aunt Jemima are jokes, if not please visit your local library and educate yourself.
people forget that others were brought to America as endentured servants. My (2)greats grandparents had to serve 10years to a penn. farmer for their passage to America. Grandpa gave an extra 5 yrs waiting for grandmas debt to be paid.
Steve, I’m aware of others brought to America as indentured servants, and I’ve read about what they’ve had to endure. I sympathize for them as well. You don’t want to hear what my grandparents and parents endured, not to mention their ancestors . It would bring you to tears…. maybe. I can’t dwell on that because I have my own battles to fight with prejudiced people on a daily basis.
I could be very bitter. But, I’m not. I just have a low tolerance for those who don’t know what the f..k they are talking about and make crazy comments. So, I express my view and try to learn from others’ views and experiences.
Steve, my daddy’s people were railroaders. Poor, rural southerners dirt poor scratching out a living. My daddy always said I was born on a bad check…in other words, he wrote a rubber check to get me and mama out of the hospital. We eat a delicacy here that my daddy called “poor man’s cornbread”. You just mix cornmeal with water and fry it in a pan. It was called poorman’s cornbread b/c it didn’t require eggs or buttermilk. Yum! Yum!
Peach, we call that hot water cornbread.
lol. I eat those all the time. My Mama told me when I got my first apt to always have cornmeal and a couple cans of blackeyed peas and I would always have a meal. I guess that is my “ramen noodles” (never eaten them. bought some once and they are still in the zombie closet) Fried onions and cornmeal with a bowl of blackeyed peas is actually quite tasty. (buy the Glory Brand peas with seasoning already done).
lol, sasha. That’s right, hot water and don’t forget to salt it before you fry it. We left off the best part, smother it in butter while it’s hot. So good with vegetable soup, heck, with anything!
I never understood why the water had to be hot. I do it, but I don’t GET it.
TT, I’m not sure, but I think the hot water sort of pre-cooks the corn meal so it’s easier to shape before cooking. Once the hot water is in, you spoon out little ball shapes, then flatten them before dropping them into the hot oil.
Peach, you mentioned buttermilk. Pouring cold buttermilk over hot hot-water cornbread is good eating. Unfortunately, I haven’t had that in years.
Oh I don’t do it that way. I make it the consistency of pancake batter and pour it. You can pour honey on them and eat them like pancakes too. #SouthernsTakeoverTT
The last time I made hot water cornbread I added flour and a pinch of salt, I think… it’s been a while. I like the old school recipe better, it comes out more crunchy. I don’t do much cooking. My husband is the cook in the family, and talk about southern cooking, wow! Believe it or not he makes healthy country meals.
When I mom used to make it, I thought it was incredible trailer park. I wanted to know why you couldn’t use buttermilk like a regular cornbread recipe and just fry it. (still makes sense to me). My mother did not like ANYONE in the kitchen or anyone questioning her. She would just run me right out (probably to the yard, until SHE RANG THE DINNER BELL! ;0 )
I managed to learn to cook by osmosis. And when she died while everyone was fighting over expensive shit, I snuck all the recipes out to my car….sssshhhh!
Sasha.. I know what they had to endure..not just endured but overcame!! Theres no way to change the past and not enuf people try to make things better now. How many people are as slaves now in city sweatshops. How do we all make things right?
Steve, the best we can do is to continue to have a dialogs on the subject. And, make our best efforts to have compassion for those negatively affected by our pasts. It’s so easy to say move on, get over it, etc. But, when you experience racial prejudices and cruelty on a regular basis, it’s a hard to move on.
It’s amazing how we both can read about the same incident(s), and view them from opposite ends of the spectrum. I guess if we all agreed on everything, we wouldn’t be discussing it on TT’s sight or anywhere else. I have an open mind and enjoy learning how others think. There is something to be learned from every comment.
It’s late. I’ll probably read this tomorrow and ask, what the heck was i talking about.
how about this..if my ancestors didnt give up a portion of their life for a boatride, and yours wernt forced into one..neither one of us would be here to understand why the ugliness still exists.

And, she’s back.
Oh shit, I meant to post my reply @ my edited spot… ! 😉
Oh, it was such a cute song.
According to Huffington Post, Law & Order SVU filming an episode combining the Paula Deen controversy with a Trayvon Martin-esq storyline. It’s an interesting read.
