Questions & Answers With Prosecution and Defense

July 14, 2013 by tamaratattles 56 Comments

omarateamWHEW!  I AM NOT EDITING THIS, If grammar and spelling makes it unreadable for you, don’t read it.

Angela Corey first to the media. She is giving a speech like she just won the Academy Award for best actress. “We had to do the best to get facts and details out to the jury and we want to thank the  jury for their time.”

Bernie is the first to say he is disappointed. But he respects the Juries verdict and to please respect their privacy.

John Guy said that he just wanted to truth to come out and for peace to be found and we believe that is what happened.

Manti wants to say to the family of the “dead teenager, Trayvon Martin” That he has appreciated the way they have handled this matter.

Angela runs back to the mike to thank even more people. “This is something we do. We put on our best case and leave it in the hands of the jury.”

Question one: WHY DID YOU OVERCHARGE?  blah blah blah

What was the greatest challenge? Coming into the case late.

What was the weakest part of the case that let you down? Blah blah blah leave it in the hands of the jury.

Have you had a chance to speak to parents since the verdict? No I was in a hurry for my camera time.

WTF with the whole 3rd degree murder with child abuse debacle?  Oh well you know there are lesser includes and manslaughter is a necessary lesser included, and we look at the other options to see if they fit our case.  We thought that third degree fit our case…..

Did SYG law affect the case?  She explains that SYG is a procedural process and we did expect the defense to request a hearing. Justifiable use of force …blah blah blah  so no.

Why couldn’t you prove Trayvon’s voice? Well we thought the since the scream stopped after the shot it was him.

Was that the key argument? (who was screaming?)  Severity of the injuries?  Well it’s just all of it. We didn’t think the injuries comported with injuries of great bodily harm. And we didn’t think he could have pulled the gun from his holster at the time he was shot. (Really, that was a key point to you? You spent about 3 minutes on that in closing re direct, didn’t mention it on direct and skimmed right over it in closing. That was one of your key points?)

Were you disappointed in Rachel Jeantel’s  testimony? (translation, wtf didn’t you prep your start witness?)  We deal with witnesses on a regular basis a lot of them are not educated you  can’t say you are disappointed in them.

When you say you coming in after the fact was a challenge are you saying the Sanford Police did a bad job? No. not at all…no the self-defense on mutual ground cases are hard y’all.

Once it you decided that there was no evidence as to who started the confrontation why would you go forward with the case That is a major issue in self defense right? (aka WTF WAS THAT TRIAL EVEN ABOUT WITH YOUR NO EVIDENCE HAVING SIDE?) Oh, she is going to let Bernie answer that one. SHOCKER. Bernie is all “who is following who?” (exactly Bernie, that is what we needed to know. Who was following who when the confrontation occurred. Shouldn’t you be presenting EVIDENCE in that regard???)  Bernie says that GZ following a kid was the beginning of the confrontation. Oh Bernie, If that was a legally sound opinion, you would have won. Following someone is not a confrontation or illegal.  The reporter follows with that is your theory but that was not proven. Bernie  gives his child going home speech.

Angela just starts talking about how the case is not about race…etc.

The reports are now directing questions to Bernie and he ends them all with I don’t if that answers your question.  Bernie says this is the only the 2nd murder case he has lost.

Someone

Ben K was fired, why did you do that Angela?  We sent a letter out about that. We just wanted to get all the facts out in this case. (It is amazing she keeps saying that since she just fired  a guy for testifying under oath to the facts of the case). She just keeps saying that the jury got all the facts and the jury gave them careful consideration.

Angela is a mediawhore. She just was told to stop taking questions. And launched back in to her acceptance speech.

Now Mark O’Mara is up reading a letter to police thanking them for help. He sent the letter a few days ago so that he would get it before the verdict  so that it would not seem like an answer to an acquittal.

It’s a long letter praising the Sanford Police Department. He calls the department’s work on the case, “pure perfection.” Mark thanks the jury for their active engagement. He appreciates them following the law.

West says the prosecution of George Zimmerman was disgraceful. As happy as I am for George Zimmerman it makes me sad that it took this long under these circumstances to get justice.

Question for Don West re personal info and how things were going for him with the judge, the ice create instagram.  West says he won’t talk about that because this is about GZ.

O’Mara is asked about Zimmerman’s emotional state?  MOM says he is going to be  fine. He is still worried and we will take it a day at a time.

Wong from HLN was this a fair fight?  MOM apologized to public defenders for saying that fighting for discovery from the prosecution made him think they were dealing with young public defenders.  He basically says he had to fight tooth and nail for complete discovery, the state out funded them, they made it extraordinary difficult to receive the discovery. Had they not gone to such links to keep information from them the case could have  been tried six months ago…It was a bit like David and Goliath, but we won.

GZ kept a poker face during the verdict. When did he become emotional? When he got into a private place.

Best weakest moments for you and for the prosecution. Best moment was the verdict. MOM loved the entire trial. That is where he is at is best.

Will you pursue sanctions against the state attorneys office? Yes there is a sanctions hearing to be set . And they will sue the state for attorney’s costs.

MOM says if civil lawsuits are filed, the will seek and get immunity.

What is next for George Z?  I don’t know what you do after 16 months of this. I think once he takes some time.  He would like to get the word out as to who he really is after all of the misinformation in the media.

Would the outcomes have been different if George was black? Does he fear for is safety?  Mark says yes, if GZ was black he would never have been charged with a crime. It seems that what happened was that an event  that was looked into by the SPD and determined to be a self defense event. And then this became a civil rights event in the media despite there having been an investigation that showed no racial component. If those who decided to condemn Mr. Zimmerman so quickly and viciously would have taken the time to find out about him before condemning him, none of this would be happening.

How concerned is George? I have never seen jurors thank defense attys for explaining the law! What was your reaction to that? George is very concerned and has credible threats. We do need to be worried about. MOM says he takes their thanks as a compliment.

Rachel Jeantel and Dr Bao, WTF was that cross like, West? With RJ he was trying to get the four minutes into evidence, He says that RJ was in a very bad position because she was first interviewed by phone with the family on the line!!!!  and the next interview was even worse because it took place at Trayvon’s mother’s home with Ms Fulton sitting next to RJ sitting next to her in her living room. So he had to get out that RJ changed her testimony to save the feelings of the Martin family.

As for Dr.Bao…ummmm (looks off ) Did you hear Dr. De Maio’s testimony? The cross of Dr. Bao was set up for that.

Do you think the judge was fair? Will this case affect race relations? MOM says se runs her courtroom very well and she moved this case along at a pace that I appreciated. (West rolls his eyes).  MOM gave a complimentary review. Regarding race relations he repeatedly asked Crump not to put present this as a race relations case. This verdict has nothing to do with civil rights.

For West what do you think about the Judge? MOM tells him not to answer. West responds that he would like to keep his bar license for the next couple of years, next question…

Advice to the Public with such polarized positions? He found the media and the misinformation  hugely distraction.

Words for the family?  It’s a tragedy, blah blah blah but  George did nothing wrong and was beaten by a 17 year old and all of the forensic support that. And 45 seconds before the guy was fired, the decision to keep beating him places the  decision in Trayvon’s hands more than GZ. No one should have to lose a child…it’s a tragedy, but not one GZ was responsible for.

When the jury asked the question about manslaughter were you worried? MOM’s understanding  was that excusable homicide definition was confusing to be included.

West what do you mean about the tragedy into travesty, what was the tragedy? Trayvon losing his life. It would have been a travesty of justice had GZ been convicted.

From your private conversations what was the most compelling statements that made you feel he was innocent? There were many.  The first opportunity that he had to say something about the case he said he was screaming out for help and nobody came. Then when the cop said he had a video of the event he said , “Thank God!”  MOM dismisses in disgust  by the prosecution’s portrayal of Gz as some kind of savant cop wanna be who knew he could take on that bluff? She asks if she had seen him cry and he says of course. He was devastated by his portrayal in the media and by the legal system that he loved that charged him without evidence.

Benjamin Crump…. I started recapping this. I had to stop when he said that Trayvon would be in the anals (sic) of  along with “Mega” (sic) Evans (sic)as symbols for the fight for equal justice for all. I just can’t with this idiot.

The defense gave you a hard time throughout this. They just said that your first interview with RJ was made for TV but not for an investigation, thoughts? You  know, it’s easy to go back in a vacuum. Ms. Jentel, she did not want to get involved in this matter in no way possible. So I think it is pretty documented the challenges we had to get her involved……something she did not want to do.”

Does it bother you when people say this case is not about race? It would be intellectually dishonest not to acknowledge the racial undertones….(there was more but that was the important part.

Why were they not in court for the verdict?  Another attorney(?) says that due to the emotional nature of the verdict they recommended that they went home to go to church tomorrow.

Do you think the outcome would have been different if the races were reversed? They said something about learning from the tragedy and did not address the question.

Natalie is a local attorney and she was asked how Sanford would respond to the verdict.  She is very emotional and says that the public awareness has changed Sanford for the better and that there is grace and dignity in peaceful protests.

Piers Morgan is always a dick head. He can’t help it.

Of course this whole debacle is about race. Even the prez threw down when he stated that if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. Since Obama and Trayvon aren’t related, the only physical feature they have in common is that they are black. Black/race, black/race. There is a connection. This was a politically driven, race based trial that should have never happened. Even now, when it definitely should be over, it won’t be…

I agree, Gingersnap. I believe the prosecutor’s office was so afraid of the political fall-out that they folded under special interests pressure and prosecuted a case that didn’t exist. I was very afraid the jurors would not have the courage to return a verdict based on the evidence and the charges. So, while I have some serious reservations about gun-toting community watch people, I’m proud of the jurors.

I was very afraid of this aws well. My heart was actually racing while waiting for the verdict to be read. This case is about a tragedy, but charges should never have been brough. My 19 year old son would never turn around and confront someone he thought was “creepy” and following him. Whether it was a “cracka” or a “brotha.” He’d use his phone to call 911.

@Timah ~ Trayvon got justice, you just want blood. It’s unfortunate that so many whites have white guilt and don’t want to publicly say that there is a whole lot of racism against whites too. It’s a two way street, but we can’t say it. Fuck that. I will say it. Racism is a two way street. There are many blacks that hate white people for no other reason than they are white.

It’s all wrong, I’m not saying otherwise, but you show your true colors when you outright attack someone because you didn’t like what they had to say. It’s that kind of shit that keeps people down. I don’t care what color you are, once you start sounding like an idiot, you lose all credibility. I’d kick your ass off my site, but I’ll betcha TT won’t. That’s because she is a decent human being and you owe her an apology.

I don’t usually but it is late and I didn’t want to stay up with a spammer. I imagine there will be more people coming to the board tomorrow to discuss the verdict and we are trying to have intelligent conversation here. Sadly, I’ve had to delete lots of bad behavior tonight. I don’t want it to carry over to tomorrow. If it was in a housewives thread on a stupid topic I would just let it go.

Some of y’all have noticed the lack of TC in the trial threads during the trial. Because she has the sense to know the differences in seriousness of the posts.

I missed this- but you’re right . I also find it odd that people in California were rioting, and here in Florida, about an hour from Sanford.. all is quiet. The State never really had a case, so this wasn’t a surprise- Angela Corey acting like she was accepting an Emmy Award, yes, that was a surprise.

The whold firing of the IT guy in her office, after he got a raise for outstanding work, and the extra 442,000 dollars of taxpayer money she used to give herself and asst. in added pensions. Oh, no, I completely missed timah. I’ll take your word for it that all had to be deleted. The ugliest thing lawyer Crump said last night was that TM would go down with Emmit Till. TM is no Emmit Till. ET was a young boy brutally murdered during really racist times in Mississippi. If you want to know his story, watch the old movie Mississippi Burning. Having been a child during segregation, I grew up seeing and obeying Whites Only signs. I have spent my adult career as a teacher making sure that each child walked into and out of my classroom as equals. I will say again how deeply hurt I am to know in the last years of my life we are not a lot further from those signs I saw as a girl. The difference is that now both groups are obviously equally prejudiced against the other. Color me very discouraged.

I am still sorting out my thoughts on this. I have so much to say. But I must stop and do a correction on this…

Mississippi Burning is not about the murder of Emmett Till. It is about the State of Mississippi’s coverup of those that committed the deaths of three civil rights workers. Also, it is more fiction than fact.

If someone wants to learn about the death of Emmett Till, first I advocate that you READ the novel written by his mother Mamie Till-Mobleym Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime that Changed America. Also, if someone insists on watching television to learn about history, PBS did an excellent documentary entitled the Murder of Emmett Till. There are also transcripts on the PBS website if you want to read about it.

I am trying to control my snark on the irony of your post.

I usually keep quiet when the race card comes up because I don’t want to make things worse than they are but I just have to let it all out. My dad was stationed at an air base down South during my high school years. I saw first hand had horrible black people were treated. MLK was my hero. I cheered inside when white and blacks marched on Selma. I was young during the hippie days. I thought we good guys were going to confront all of the wrong and protect the rights of all people. We would overcome the mean people. When JFK, MLK and RFK were assinated I cried. A racial slur or thought has never come from me. I want everyone to prosper and I have donated to many minority causes. Well, I see people like Crump and Sharpton get up and shout that we white people are responsible for the bad things that happen to black people. It is all our fault. Really. What I believe they are doing is widening the space between the races again. I believe they do it for money and maybe they flat hate white people. I believe if MLK were alive today we would hold hands and cry together.

Can I call Angela Corey a dickweed? As we look back on this case, I think she will look worse and worser! She’s in a world of legal trouble herself. GZ is going to sue them for his attorney fees which means you and me will have paid for the whole case, both sides. She fired a whistle-blower who told MOM about the scrubbed phone data that the state hid until June 2013. And yesterday, we learned that she socked away over $300,000 for her and Bernie’s pensions. The Jacksonville Times-Union said she used the TM case to be re-elected b/c her reputation regarding the cases she has brought there was so bad in the black community. I don’t know if Bernie jumped to be her go-to boy or she was his boss and he had no choice. Either way, they both look very bad in the light of day. All of the attention, lawyers, and fame will soon move on from TM and his family, and they will be left alone and disillusioned. May God heal their hurt.

Repeatedly over the course of this trial the prosecution had tried to base their case on “Trayvon’s immanent fear due to being followed by an older man, suggesting that he may have feared his assailant was a child predator” I have two teenage boys, one is a college sophomore(#1) and the younger one (#2) a JR in HS. I took my younger son to work this morning. I asked my son “if someone were following you, possibly a pervert…” he promptly cut me off and pointed out that “no boy my age is afraid of a child molester, its far too much trouble to deal with”

OK, on CNN was Mark NeJame who has lawyered in the Orlando area for years and Martin Savidge talking to Don Lemon. MNJ says that Angela Corey should be prosecuted and caused all this beg hoopla. He said that the local prosecutor did a good job for over 10 years and he would know cause he has been defense council against him. He blames this on AC, too. He said that GZ is going to sue the state and win. MS is kind of nodding and agreeing. But, they are covering their corporate butts by asking AC to come on and speak for her side. MNJ asks to be there when she comes on…CATFIGHT! Then I see Jessie, Jr. being confronted by Harris Faulkner. She does all this civil rights icon respect thing. Then she asks why he doesn’t let this drop and what about all the young men killed every day. He stayed focused on civil rights issue and racism as the cause of TM’s death. OK, that’s the extent of my new knowledge from today. Oh, JA sent out a tweet to the effect of ‘I didn’t use to like country music but it’s good’. LOL, guess the other guests of the state won’t let her choose the radio station. Isn’t the hearing to set the retrial of the death penalty on the 16th? Trialwatchers, we have a big week coming up if the AS trial starts. I’m never into the jury selection.

I believe we have a right to defend our selves, however, what confuses me is: if George, according to his trainer; was a 1 out of a 10, why did GZimmerman pursue or go in the direction? I do not believe he was looking for an address. However, I do believe that he got his ass kicked. Regardless, I am glad I was not on that jury because I do not know if I would have voted Guilty or not. I respect the decision. I have bigger concerns with the State.
As many have said, no one knows what happened but George and Trayvon.
Last night leaving work there were protestors. I was in Florida when the protests were going on- cops were in riot gear but I can say that they were peaceful in Florida as they were here. I am happy to see all races come together — but this case should not be a civil rights movement. I strongly believe that the network who edited the tape should be sued. I read another article a while back — the editor pointed out the nation went crazy when we were made to believe that Zimmerman said; “F****** Coons” that is true.
The state only took this case because of the protesting and that concerns me. When Angela C said they didn’t show a picture followed by,”we had to look at the situation” that concerns me considering there was a sanctions hearing when this case began of the possibility evidence was withheld. No matter how gruesome a case is, no matter if it is Casey Anthony, the State has the obligation to turn over all evidence. I am proud of the whistle blowers but scared for them. I suspect they will sue, but that takes years. Also what concerns me is: Bernie da whatever his last is- mentioned to W. White on the at the sanctions hearing that they were concerned about his lack of performance; he had a case load of 2 and others of 12 ( something like that).
    Here is my issue:
•Since when do prosecutors go out and arrest people?
•Just because a case comes in it does not mean it has to be prosecuted. That is why the police do the arresting and the prosecutors do their job. If there is no evidence then? Prosecute anyways?

If this is Floridas bad ass SPECIAL team that prosecutes; I am scared shitless to go back in 6 months to stay.

They wanted the jury to go on emotion. A jury is to not go on emotion.

It concerns me that two people lost their jobs by exposing the corruption and they are making them: the people who exposed Florida: the bad guys.

The should make some sort of “app” for that. You know a thing that helps people find things on the internet so we don’t have to rely on word of mouth. yeah, that would be cool.

Good idea. More work for you, but I read that poster who said you were just a scared blogger too afraid to leave your house so you must have lots of time. Sarcasm off.
