Julie Chen discusses racism in the Big Brother House by Aaryn. The above clip also shows the bigot reel from last night in case you missed it. Julie says she was personally hurt by the comments about Asians as she didn’t believe people still felt like that in this day and age!
Sharon says that people in her generation used those terms but she is 22 years old and in college and times have changed and we know better now. It is interesting that The Talk panel has Black, Asian, and Gay women at the table. Sara jokingly said she was most offended by the black comments. Aisha says she was most offended by the gay slurs. Aisha says imagine if that is what comes out of her censored mouth in whispered tones what she is actually thinking but NOT saying. Sharon says several times that Aaryn is obviously very, very troubled.
Jules says she has poked fun at Asian stereotypes before on the show, but it was all in good fun. And she is Asian. The comments Aaryn makes come from a mean, vindictive place. Sheryl (and others) said that they are very proud of CBS for showing the issues. Julie says the reason they included it is because her behavior is now driving the game. Julie Chen says she hopes that the bigots in the house will say, “Wow. is that really who I am? Is that who I want to be?”
Wow. Can you imagine Julie Chen doing Aaryn’s exit interview? That will be must see TV.
Well done group. I am amazed at this child, her name looks almost like Aryan…fits…Wonder what kind of man her daddy is.
I do find it interesting that CBS allows the bigoted, homophobic, hateful spew to continue…all the while making money from the show. Yet I don’t see the public out cry for boycotts, lost sponsorship etc that occurred with Paula Deen. I am not condoning what she did…so get off the soapbox…just pointing out that a network seems to be profiting off aring hateful speech.
Big Brother has always been a social experiment, as well as a game. The whole point of the show is to see how people behave in stressful events. That is what they always do. If they are going to edit out all the bad things, there would be no point in the show. Julie said they probably would not have aired the nasty comments if it didn’t effect the game. But now there are many people that want the bigots out so it because crucial to understanding gameplay.
I think it is great that it aired for many reasons, the houseguests will be forced to face their behavior, and all the young people watching will understand the seriousness of the comments.

I agree that once it is said CBS did the right thing by airing it vs sweeping it under the rug. I wonder how they will react once they get out. Will they be ashamed of their actions or rewarded for it? Loose a Pagent/Model/Rail Road job and then get something that extends their 15 min of fame? I think I am craving some good scripted TV. There I know the fuckwits are just actors playing a role…not Real Life Fuckwits.
SIBERIA tonight at 10 on nbc. It’s scripted but about a survivor like show that goes awry, I love it.

When you put it that way, I can definitely see where the network’s coming from!! Excellent observation doll!!
I can’t wait for that for 2 reasons. 1) I am hopeful that JC actually confronts her about her behavior. and 2) she will be Off the show and getting a HUGE wake up call when she realizes that she is out of a job and practically everyone in the country hates her. There may be one job waiting for her when she gets out, but I highly doubt the kkk pays, especially with her being a woman and all. The sad part is that she is exactly the kind of monster that keeps that disgusting organization alive, which I was shocked to learn recently on a late night documentary. Don’t let us down Julie!!!
I’m watch The Talk all the time.
Just for the sake of this post & Julie Chen’s opinion I would like to point out that on several occasions on her talk show, that Julie Chen has mocked Chinese people for comedic effect. She has brought out steamed rice, wore thick glasses while quoting Confucius with mocking accent, has done nail salon jokes with mocking accent, and math & science jokes…. Just sayin…..I know the difference is intent, because Aaryn’s intent was to demean & dehumanize.
Also I feel nervous for anyone that works for CBS that pisses Julie Chen off. After all she made Leah Remini & Holly Robinson Peet vanish from the table without any mention. This Big Brother cast has no chance of getting CBS gigs like Jeff & Jordan did.
Ya know, Julie Chen really does do a lot of weirdly inappropriate riffs on Asians on that show. I get what she’s saying about it not coming from a mean place, which is true. But she’s done little Asian “impersonations” before that weren’t much different than Aaryn’s nail shop bit. Putting that out in public does contribute to ignorant people thinking that it’s okay. Yes, most people have common sense, but many don’t. So I hope Julie also stops her own joking around at the expense of Asians.
I also think that if people are awful in the house, let them be awful, but show it to the viewer — especially when the viewer is charged for voting for MVP this year. No sugar-coating or even manipulative editing, or it comes close to rigging the game. So of course CBS is right to have aired all that, for several reasons. I think that sadly, the players of this season are going to learn some very harsh, irreparable life lessons. But it will also be a lesson for future contestants. I sincerely doubt that we’ll see this kind of behavior in the future.
Aaryn & co just figured out how the live feeds work and they’re freaking out…because they think weird guys will make videos of them, not because of all the awful things they’ve said. They’re in for a BIG surprise when they leave that house, I almost feel bad for them.
It kind of cracked me up on Sunday’s show when their title cards would say “Aaryn, (Pageant Director)” or whatever she was, and I was thinking, um, shouldn’t that say “Unemployed” for several in this cast right now? 😉
I am Asian and I make jokes with my Asian friends and family. We are able to laugh about it because we find the stereotypes to be at times, terrifingly true and other times horribly outlandish. They are unique to our nationality and we find them oddly endearing. The jokes are never made in malice or prejudice. Aaryn and GinaMarie make comments out of anger and as a way to differnitiate people by race/lifestyle. They in no way have appreciation or celebrate these differnces. Their jokes are negative and mean spirited and that’s why they are coming off as rascist and homophobic.
Are you sure you’re Asian? You spell horribly.
And Asian is a race. Not a nationality. Asians are usually smarter than that.
lol… Not all Asians are smart, it is just that they put the ones who don’t excel on the back burner so you don’t “see” them.
NAA…..Beware of the lesbian in the BB house….she could be very problematic…….TRUST ME!
No lesbian could last in BB. Not even a dumb Asian one.
My wife is Asian (she is an ABC) and like everyone you have to have some sort of sense of humor concerning your own people. That being said it is one thing for a member of that group to make fun of their own people and it is another for someone else to say some nasty racist b.s.
What is an ABC?
I think it means American born Chinese?
that is weirdly offensive to me and I’m not quite sure why
The other night on RHONJ when making sausage Teresa describes her family as FOB, fresh off boat which is a replacement for “immigrant” or immegrunt as Teresa might mispronunce.
If we are going to get all “politically correct” then “fresh of the boat” is a derogatory term when describing immigrants.

So another double standard like the N word? Lovely.
Isn’t it lovely?……I agree 100%!
Why is Wesley Snipes in drag on that show?
You are a horrible person. She’s a lovely girl. I hope she wins.
